Has anyone ever taken the serrations off a blade before with reasonable success? I've got a
Vaquero (cold steel) that has very small shallow serrations, like on a cheap bread knife that I
very much dislike and wondered if it could be done with a reasonable amount of success or
would it just be a failure on a knife such as that? This blade is mint and I just don't carry it
around because I don't care for CS serrations. Thanks. :)

I had an SOG Auto Clip that was half serrated and I used a belt sander to remove them. Turned out alright. 60 grit belt, light pressure and finished up with a stone.

Did it on my Spirit with a diamond stone :)
Took a long bloody time though :-\

It's possible to do it, but not something I'd suggest.
Cold Steel's AUS 8 is pretty hard (something like 58-59 HRC) so the actual sanding will take a long time, unless you use a grinder or belt sander at which point you really have to make sure you don't ruin the temper on the steel.

I don't know why Cold Steel would put needle-thin serrations on some of their knives - that could never be re-sharpened. :think:

Thanks for all the comments guys! Yeah I consider them to be the worse serrations I've ever used
on a knife, and your right they are so small and shallow I know when it gets dull I wouldn't be able
to sharpen them.
