Title: Yeoman Mechanic
Post by: Myoman on October 11, 2018, 08:08:11 AM
I'm new here and I bet this has been asked countless times...is there any way to get my hands on a yeoman mechanic? It has the exact configuration I'm looking for!

Thanks

Chris

DIY or eBay, probably. It's not that hard to make one yourself - you'll need a Swiss Champ and a Compact.

Welcome to the forum!

I would like to get a bunch of SAK lovers together and write victorinox to reissue the yeoman mechanic. Do you think this is possible?

Probably.  They might not like to make a short run of an unusual toolset, but if you can get enough people interested Vic might make it for you.  Seriously though, if you just want one the DIY is the way to go.

You can try, but nobody will take it into account

Similar tries on other models, or even lines, were ignored

P.S.: You can try via Victorinox Facebook page

Welcome to the forum!

What do you use the compact for? I just got done watching a youtube mod...do you use the compact as a tool or do you take stuff out?

Honestly,

If I were a die hard collector who just payed $120 for a Yeoman Mechanic, I'd be pretty bummed if Vic would suddenly offer it as a standard model again...

Yeah I could be wrong but I don't think it was ever a standard model.

The whole rare/collectable/special edition thing kinda bites big when you want it for use though.
Value gets twisted to some different levels.
Function becomes secondary.

Hi, welcome to the forum

Not to burst your bubble mate, but i wouldn't hold my breath on that one.....
Vic won't even bring back the 84mm scissors, and there is a way larger crowd asking for that....

They are just way more interested these days in putting out LE's and SE's of standard models with fancy scales and boxes for collectors, at huge prices.... Way more profit and less risk in that at very little expense, you know...  >:D

I'm afraid modding is the only way... :/

Welcome to MTO Myoman  :hatsoff:

Why not looking for some used SAK on eBay and try it out. It's a fun learning curve that reaches from excitement over frustration to enjoyment and success  :pok:

This thread here from Lynn is a nice example and good read...

You can find the brass rods to buy in the Trade Forum.

Eventually I managed it myself too.

But bringing back the Yeoman Mechanic would be really easy compared to making a new machine to make 84mm scissors. :pok:

But no one forces a collector to pay that much. It's like a self imposed nightmare - Gotta pay over the odds for a tool that isn't going to be used for its intended purpose because it costs so much. Blurgh

Be that as it may, don't forget they've discontinued the standard Mechanic a couple of years ago, why would they bring back an Yeoman version of it that was never in the regular production line anyway...?

And regarding the 84 scissors, they don't need a new "machine" they just need the two stamping moldes made. The machine is the same for a lot of tools, they multitask. All they need to do is change the molde on it...

And a 84 scissors sak would sell a lot more than a yeoman mechanic....   :pok:

That´s why I´m glad Magentus made me a Bushcrafter replica out of a Farmer. I really wanted a Bushcrafter for EDC, but not pay for a limited edition. Also, Farmers are readily available so I don´t need to worry much about getting another one when the Bushcrafter breaks or AWOLs.

Who would be the top guys on here to contact for helping or for commissioning to do a mod?

Is the Bantam combo tool the same as the Compact combo tool?

Not exactly.

The one on the Bantam is a tad smaller in every dimension.
