That’s what I would do peen the pivot
Make sure to test after each peen :tu:
Now....what to use to peen the pivot?
Dull nail? Metal punch?
I think my peening hammer would be too cumbersome. But....it couldn't hurt.....
Ouch Nix! Looks like the PL has a vendetta against you. :pok:
Tried to use the pliers to loosen the hot & cold water supplies for the washer, but the space was just too confined. In the end I used some slip joint pliers to loosen the hoses up. This is no hit on the Powerlock, just a realistic limitation due to a large 'nut' in a confined space.
 'zactly.
But it works.
With SOG's compound leverage, it's a bit tougher to use the inboard knife with the pliers opened, but that too is doable. :tu:
Thanks, W.Have you tried your fishing wire with the cutters yet  :tu:
I really like this test for a multitool's cutters. Separates the posers from the performers.
Have a good and safe trip Nix :like: :like: :tu:
Not sure how I feel about them sending two PLs out though. Only because it seems as if one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. That sort of thing ends up costing the consumers from what I've seen.
Day 12:
Changing up my carry today.
I'm expecting a quiet day, but it's 4th of July here in the states, and one never knows when a picnic will break out. Best to be prepared with plenty of cap-lifters and can-openers. :D
Excellent job Nix
You didn’t damage the Awl did you   :D
So that’s a + for the awl then :D :tu:Excellent job Nix
You didn’t damage the Awl did you   :D
Don't think so.
I checked (with my reading glasses on) and I didn't see any edge rolling or tool deformation. :tu:

Like this?Indeed! I felt like my world changed when I figured that out on my old PL.

And yes my PL scissors also had that problem. After I switched to LM scissors in the mod that was not an issue :multi:
I swear, if I ran a company that made multitools, I'd give a dozen prototypes out to MTo members and ask for feedback. Twelve half-lazy MTo 'testers' would have more to say in the space of two weeks than a whole T&E department could discover in a year.
Nix,
Thought you might like to see how little SOG has changed the PowerLock since 1998. Aside from the pliers and gear covers,
The older PL is a pre-pat #(likely 1998) and the newer one is a 2018 model with v-cutter, instead of scissors.
"Day 13:
Carried the Powerlock in the back pocket of my jeans. Actually worked fairly well, no issues, and I may try carrying it this way a bit more. A pocket caddy might be a good idea as well. "
SOG should advertise "We include mediocre scissors, but Leatherman scissors fit better". :D
El Peacent has called the Powerlock a 'beast'. Well......all things are relative...right?
So scissors and the file are still no good then
So scissors and the file are still no good then
Uhhhhh......seen from a certain angle.......uhhhhh......yeah.
And the Powerlock doesn't have all the features of the PowerAccess Deluxe.......but it's 'better'.

Day 11:
Back home now and no significant adventures. I was really happy to see there is still some snow lingering up on the peaks of the taller mountains. Snow is water, and water is life. So snow in July means water in the creeks and streams, and life in the rivers and lakes. And that puts a smile on my face. :tu:
I did struggle a bit with the scissors again. I'll try to peen them some more in the next day or two. Otherwise, the Powerlock just rode along for the journey. Awlways nice to have a multi close at hand.
Time for a G&T now, so......

Seems it is hot all over the globe. We had such a mild winter in Alabama, that the insect problem is severe. Several new tick species coming from South America as well. Insane amounts of wasps and yellow jackets. Ravenous Mosquitoes. Ridiculous humidity. I can't wait for fall/winter. :ahhh
Can you take the covers off  :tu:
Yes that doesn’t look comfortable :(
But the LM Supertool is the same when you
use the pliers and hasn’t given me any problems :tu:
The saw does look short and the
handle is in the way for thicker wood :(
Day 21 (continued):I think the LM still has more usable saw blade. Not much. You will hit the stop on the saw blade first before you hit the handle. Also, you can use the saws with the tool open, keeping the handle out of the way.The saw does look short and the

While I had the tools out, I compared saws.
The shot is a bit deceiving because the handles aren't lined up. I tried to line up the ricassos, but it looks like I shorted the SOG a tad. I'm not sure if that's a distortion of the camera or I bumped the SOG prior to the shot.
Nevertheless, you can see the SOG's saw is short compared to the other multi's saws. SOG had the space to get it's saw to be the same length as Leatherman's--the handles are about the same length. But...no.
While the Leatherman's saw looks a bit longer than the Swisstool saw, the Swiss tool is the clear winner here because there is more usable saw blade since the blade opens outward and there is no handle to get in the way.

Thanks for the pics, Nix!
I am not sure, why in 20+ years, SOG couldn't have just updated the saw and blades to be longer. They changed the tooth count in the 90s, but left it the same length.
I know they were trying to make all their tools fit the PP, PPP, PL, PAssist, and SwitchPlier; but it really wouldn't have taken much to have a longer saw blade available at some point for the PL and PA.
Thank you for the photos, TP!
The saw looks so silly in the BlackTip.
Does your PowerPlier have the saw with fine teeth? Mine does, and the amount of effort to modify the tooling to the newer-style "bigger" teeth would have been a good opportunity to design a new saw especially for the PL. They could have just used the old machinery to make finer-tooth saws for the PP, PPP, and ParaTool. :ahhh
Day 22:
This evening...and El Peacent has been expecting this, I know...it was roast chicken time!
The Tomahawk is there in case the feeble-feeling blade on the Powerlock wasn't able to meet the task.
G-man, It's not work if you are having fun!
Day 24 (continued):
Used the Powerlock to remove the pins, after test fitting, from a knife I'm finishing up. Pins are tight! And the Powerlock was a great help in pulling them back out.
Knife is epoxied and clamped up now. After the epoxy cures, I'll finish the handle and sharpen up the blade. The blade is one I made from 1095, which is why it's not the most gorgeous thing made. But....should be a nice carry knife.
Good luck with catching the chipmunks Nix :like: :tu:+1
:facepalm:It’s definitely keeping you busy   :tu:
I haven't seen anymore...... But the trap is set.......
Nice review Nix
It’s a shame the PowerLock didn’t win you over
It’s been a interesting Challenge :tu: :like: :like:
time to replace that old worn Gerber MP for work, RF52!! :pok: :DDo you really think it's time to do that?
Congrats RF52. Maybe you'll still carry the MP on alternate Weekdays, or maybe only on days that end with Y or something like that. :think:So everyday then I will probably take it to work and see how it holds up against the Legend
I think RF52 is going to try a challenge.......... :salute: :SAKnight:He has my support :tu:
He'll need our support, so look for his challenge thread.....soon, I hope!
