Count me in :D.
My first multitool (and still one of my favorites), bought it late '94 (it's dated 1094), and this big boy was always by my side during the last 3 years of high-school and at my first job, it was only in 2003 that I bought myself a second Leatherman (Wave).
Since I can't seem to find a picture with only the Supertool on it I will post one with a couple of tools next to it ;).

Sign me up. I bought a Super Tool shortly after they became available and it replaced the PST as my EDC multitool. The Super Tool handles are dated 0495 and 0595.
My Super Tool lacks a hard wire cutter.

Thanks again Turnsouth  .
I've got an interesting question regarding the locking tools on a ST, what happens if you open all the tools on one side of the handle how do you close them afterwards?

Use a screwdriver to lift the latch up enough to unlock the tools.
now that's a good looking ST you got there.Thanks. the best ebay score to date.

Didn't need to change to pivot out as the lock stops them folding in.

I understand that, just was wondering... After all, the Pulse has the pivot out ones as well, and is locked too.

I understand that, just was wondering... After all, the Pulse has the pivot out ones as well, and is locked too.
My guess is that with the Pulse they just wanted to save on machining new parts and so used as many from the late model PST/PST II as they could. AFAIK the Supertool never changed tools, in fact the later Supertool 200 still used the 'pivot in' tools.
Does anyone know why lm changed the locking meachnism for the supertool 200?Leatherman came out with the Pulse and saw that they could use the same unlocking design when they wanted to improve on the Original Super Tool in which the ST200 came out after.
The problem that all tools can be locked open and a screwdriver is needed for closure could have been circumvented by integrating a non-locking tool which just lifts the hook.
Afterall i do not think that this problem should arise all too often. What do you think?
I've never been convinced that the change was made to prevent all the blade from getting stuck open all the time. No, I think it was simply that they'd come up with a lock system that didn't rely on having to fish out another tool.
Personally I never had an issue with the original method, but I can see why a designer, with the option of using a dedicated lock release, would go for it.
I believe Bob has a prototype/in-house design that has the ST200 rolled edges, but without any roll-locks. A sort of half way between an original and a 200. 8)
When i first got my Supertool it took me effectively only 5 minutes to get all tools stuck open :-[
These answers ae about what i expected: Stuck tools is not really a problem and the change has only been made to have an obvious selling point over the old tool.
I would really love to see a modern KISS tool from leatherman.

Nice shot of your ST MR. What the date codes on your ST? The reason I ask is it appears to have the older knife blade and a small pivot plier head.
Thanks for that link David :salute: It's always interesting to see these differences over the lifespan of these tools. Makes me wish I had the saber type blade though as I like the looks of those.

Count me in with BO date codes 0596/0696 and SS 0796/0896
The BO has the larger pivot on the pliers and the SS has the smaller as you can see in the pics.

Ooh ooh, I'm an ST Owner!

Nope never noticed that. And I've handled a lot of Leathermans.
Great shots guys!
Welcome aboard Roman! You found a super nice one there, complete with the box. I have a 5/95 Super Tool and have never seen that symbol before, but I'm on the lower end of the knowledge curve on this.
welcome to the forum LHW :cheers:Thank you. I will look there.
If you want an original one your best bet is to look on E-bay. They do come up once and awhile.
Sweet ! Welcome to the club
I've been sheath carrying mine all day and yeah it's nice and slim don't notice it at all.
I wish it did, but that would add bulk/weight, which would make it even harder to pocket carry. At least for me anyway.I've been sheath carrying mine all day and yeah it's nice and slim don't notice it at all.
If it had push locks like the Supertool 300 and Rebar than there would have been no need for the Supertool 300 or Rebar 8)

That's true but if it had locks similar in size to the ones on the Blast then I don't think it would be as bad and might not even add much bulk at all  :tu:

I'm finally back in this club. Got a Mint, completely unused ST with leather sheath off ebay the other day. It's a 1198 model, and still had the original oil stuck between the blades. It had seriously never been used at all, even the sticker was still on it. A bit stiff at first but it loosened up after I oiled properly.

Not sure which is better but out of all my OG Supertools the only ones that didn't have a slightly loose or really loose plier pivot are the ones with the larger pivot. They are smooth with no play in them and just the right tension.

Oh, it needs more than just a clean!
- Can opener is broken
- Plain blade is broken off leaving just a stub stuck inside the handle
- Serrated blade has been ground down into a plain edge. :ahhh
- Plier handles are very loose - should there be any springs or anything inside the handles?
- Dome on the sheath replaced with velcro (and LOTS of glue)
Yowsa ! that one is a bit rough. Good luck in bringing it back :tu:Ditto!
A vinegar bath followed by a WD40/CRC massage. I will try to replace the broken tools. One of the handle pivots in particular is either very loose or the hole in the plier head has become enlarged - there is a lot of slop.
I might start a separate thread on it'srustrestoration...

What have you got planned Syncop8r for the OG Supertool :dd:Nothing too exciting, just replacing the file.
Just got a an original supertool. Does anyone know when one with 0299 stamped on both of the handle sections was made?

The date code is month:year so you're looking at feb 1999.

About two or three weeks ago,I saw somewhere, not sure which thread, someone had an Original Super Tool and Mini Mag Lite combo with nylon sheath to carry both.
I recall there being some questions as to the origin of that combo. Just so happens I have one still in package.
Can anyone point me to that thread or OP?

ok, it's a Marlboro Miles (coupons) one from? early 1990's? PST, No stamps except, Leatherman r Tool, trade mark 1325473, Portland, Or. There is a faint Marlboro 'M' on the obverse. Tools inside. Videos available on the tube thing.
Back then we were dumb enough to smoke. I didn't care about the outdoor rewards, so I saved 'miles' from mine or other's cig packs and did sophomoric stunts for my buddy to find them.
He was good enough to use some to gift me one.
I thought it was for working with "Leather" lol, which is why I didn't use it alot, it and sheath are in excellent condition.
I can't belt carry in NYC unless a tradesman and I'm not, so it stays in great condition in the knife draw- join Knife Rights btw. :salute:
Ah, so a PST and not a Supertool :salute: the old Marlboro ones are very neat and have a cool looking sheath 8) So yes I would like a pic if you can ;) :D

thank you all for the warm welcome. Live in Rio de Janeiro now, have quite a few MT and Leathermans, my ST lives in the glove compartment of my car, has saved my ass many times.
The tip of one of the needlenose pliers broke (my bad) so I grounded the other one, looks OK to me.

Just got this off eBay. Mint, looks like it wasn't even used.
Love, love, love it. Nothing beats the original Leatherman form factor, and this beast is just awesome. I even like the locks and their function.
We have our first child arriving in a few weeks and already used it to put together her stroller :D
Nice ! did it come with the sheath ?
Sure did! It's pretty much mint too. If the previous owner hadn't soaked it some kind of perfume it'd be perfect. Its in the garage now degassing  I don't know what they used but it's managed to perfume our two car garage as well.would like to carry mine... maybe... should it be collectable, almost mint!

Ah so you took it apart to give it a good clean.
I am sorry for not being more explicit. Yes, I dismantled it in order to clean it. There was a lot of gunk and corrosion between the tools near the pivots.

I have reached the following conclusion:
The ST 300 may be a better heavy duty MT than the OG (possible the best of all unless outside opening tools are a must), but it is not better for me. At work I always have linesman pliers with me, so the robust ST 300 plier head is not needed. Taking that away, the lighter weight and simpler design of the OG wins out. It is a joy to carry and use.
The OG really is hard to beat  I never feel lacking when I have it with me :tu:
I use a 300 more because it is the same toolset and the locks are just a bit easier :D Plus, it is my Avatar

A '95er Super Tool and '97er PST were the only MTs I had until 2010. Well, and a Vic. Swiss Champ. They got me covered well :tu:
I had to cut the legs off of this cabinet to make it work in the space. I used a circular saw to cut the legs, but lacked a few millimeters from cutting all of the way through. I used the OG ST to finish the cut. The ST saw blade is one of my favorite tools.

Supertools are about as tough as they come :tu: They have weak points like all MTs do but overall the OG is as tough as nails :salute: :like:
I’m a big fan too. Not perfect but must have been very impressive at the time.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have several of them and don't carry one as much as I use to but still love how well they are made and have used my user one quite hard when over the years :tu:it's the Leatherman but the belt sheath is stamped Marlboro from a coupon collecting promo.
Also I am not sure I have ever seen a Supertool from Marlboro :o I have seen the PST ones but that is all :salute:
The time frame is the same. Not many ST200 had the USA stamped on the plier head to begin with but I believe I have seen an example or so here at MTO but that was likely before 2010 or 2009 :think:This needs a deeper dive for sure.
I believe they just started doing all the plier heads that way, first because of the California ruling and second because they were probably a bit Salty because of the ruling  :D
The last year of the OG and the first year for the 200 was 2001 :salute: not sure the exact month but with the way LM did and still does certain things, I would go with May of that year  :cheers:Thx. That is consistent with my findings on PST.

Wowser :o Congrats Sir :like:Thank you very much :hatsoff:
Use it :pok::iagree: Even the multitools I use for work are in good condition. With cautious use and regular maintenance, I think this one will do just fine as well. Although I won't lend to someone who is using the tip of the blade as a pry bar. Rule of thumb: If you wouldn't lend out your wife, don't lend out your Multitool. :mn:
My 05 & 06 '96 BO CC ST. I bought this on Ebay recently and it was listed as unused. Really seems like that was the case, probably just looked at and played with over the years.
I wanted a ST and liked how the original was much smaller than the current version. But I'll most likely keep this one nice and still get a 300. 🤣
Craig
If only you had a sturdy dining table to assemble them and photograph them all at once. I wonder who could help you find one
For as many problems as it had, you did a nice job bringing it back to working order :salute: :like: :like:
Great pics as well :woohoo: :like:
You would probably have to take the tool apart and grind each tool so that they won't engage in the lock :think:I think I'm getting the hang of the lock in use now Poncho. I had tightened the pivots a bit too much.
I don't really have a problem with the locks and it is a good trade off to how small it is comparatively to all the other tools in the Supertool family :salute:

Jaws wouldn't open as the wire cutters had a folded edge jamming them.
Unfortunately the small screwdriver snapped with a spark no less the second I tried to straighten it in the vice.
I reworked the stump as best I couldShow content(https://i.ibb.co/3pmwgq1/20230628-174011.jpg) (https://ibb.co/ZBz3qPd)It will do.
No saving the serrations so reprofiled to a good edgeShow content(https://i.ibb.co/y84GBnS/20230628-173916.jpg) (https://ibb.co/4j19gZd)
Sorted the tip and used diamond files to re edge the wire cutters. Did the twist the pivot trick I learned here to take out the slop in the Jaws. I don't mind the bite marks I left doing this.
Asswmbles it all, oiled and loctited it all together once the action was good.
Despite the very tough abuse it's once again as functional as when new, a tank.Show content(https://i.ibb.co/HzKRvTr/20230628-173705.jpg) (https://ibb.co/Z8fvszh)I dislike the lock, if I could mod it to be non locking I would. I sharpen my blades to a keen edge and find unlocking blades cumbersome. Maybe I'll get used to it.

I believe this to be the 1st Leatherman tool I ever bought, late 1990s I think.
At the time I was carrying a Victorinox Camper, so I only carried this a few times, then put it away and forgot about it.
Found it recently.

That's a fantastic rediscovery. Mine is less well preserved. :DThank you Gareth. At least you've had the joy of using one. :hatsoff:
I made a purchase on the auction site a few weeks ago of my first OG SuperTool, but that was actually a PST and seller mis represented his listing. The listing side was the PST & Sheath were unused.
I found the listing, another OG ST, the pictures revealed a used ST, with all implements intact, yet grime and scratches galore, price was good, so ordered. It arrived Wednesday afternoon.
Grime and grease inside & outside. So much awl the implements were bound into the handles, the only parts that moved was the plier head handles pivots. And center pivot.
Wiped down, scraped some, wiped more, tried prying center tools but it everything clumped together with exception of file on one handle and saw blade on the other. This stamped 05/98 and 06/98.
Soaked the tool with tool pivot down in a solo cup of hot water and dawn blue. Checked and hour or 2 later, there was movement, but nothing to get excited.
Come morning, I removed from the bath, rinsed and dried. Ate breakfast, then went to work.
Was able to wipe away all grime/heavy brown hunch, worked each tool from the one next to it, and saw improvement.
The critter’s tools are very tight, but will now deploy and rotate on the pivots AND firmly lock in the back lock position snugly. Lubricated and wiped down complete tool. Removed some dried grease from pivot areas and worked the tools via fingers. Much more freedom.
Now inspecting, the tool reveals, it likely NEVER was used, I mean NEVER. Most likely the owner could not deploy the tools, or if they had, could not put them away.

I now can understand the evolution of the ST to the ST200, then to the ST300. AWL stand up to the SUPERTOOL name!
The CORE, you say?
I searched for OG to compliment my PST (s)
Like the ST200 with the Pulse
And
The ST300 with the REBAR
Thought I was whole!!!
Congrats ! No sheath ?
Core + Fuse and you're whole :D
No sheath? Maybe a little loose in a 4.5” box, but not worried about it right now.
CORE and a FUSE ?
I will look into!
But right now I feel whole!
Trying to stay on track with what I like, not to have every model.
