Title: What's your Longest Serving EDC Item
Post by: Millhouse on November 14, 2018, 10:24:18 PM
Over the years, my EDC has changed considerably, but the one constant is my ITP A3 Stainless Steel on my keyring.

I've had the light since its release, which I think was 2009. I can't imagine not having it.

Mine is a Utilikey, and I've had it on my keys since well before I considered using online forums. It hardly ever gets used these days, as I usually have something else on me, but every now and again, I'll leave the house unarmed with my usual tool array, and the Utilikey will get me out of a fix once again.

If it counts as EDC gear, it would be my wedding band from 4-21-2007.

Otherwise it's my black victorinox pioneer from September or October of 2012.

A mobile phone, I've owned and carried one since I was 17, when they got down to a size reasonable enough to carry and affordable to joe public, though the battery was still at least 90% of the phones mass.

A Craftsman 4-way pocket screwdriver.  I've been carrying it since the early 80's.

I have a leather belt that has about 20 years on the odometer.  If that doesn't count then my Manager has about 4-5 years on the odometer.  I have also been using the Victorinox belt clip for a good while now too.

Vic Champion from late 70's and Tekna Splash-Lite from mid 80's. In 2004 I filled the Tekna's worn threads with epoxy and retapped them. Still going strong.

I still regularly carry my Skeletool CS. I got it when it first came out in 2008.

Most of my gear is newer though.

I carried a Vic Huntsman for about 30 years - until it was stolen by some removal men   >:(

I know it was not lost - As it disappeared at the unpacking stage in my new flat in Sydney.
I was using it to cut open boxes - When I looked for it after the removal men had gone - It was gone

Very sad to loose that after all these years.
And as someone who is now into SAK evolution and collecting - It's an even bigger loss  .... waaaah
I would have loved to check out its tool versions now I understand all those evolutionary changes

I carried a small Tinker from 1974 til about 2002-2003 or so til the main blade developed alot of play so it was unsafe to carry!  Next would be either my Explorer or my Olight which I have had both for probably 4 or 5 years now or so!

Schrade USA 34OT. Granddad gave it to me when I was 10, and I keep saying I've retired it, but it always gets put back in after a couple months of storage.

I've carried a 4" crescent wrench in my pocket since the late 70s and added a SAK Pocket Pal in the mid 90s. Still the first 2 things I pick up every morning. :tu:

I bought my wallet around 1992 and my watch around 1999 and I made the watch band out of a dog collar shortly after when I couldn't find a replacement band that I liked and that fit me. I've got several knives that are older although they are not EDC but only carried on rare occasions when I'm feeling nostalgic.

MagLite mini mag (2xAA) and SwissChamp. Had both of them since 1985. I do have a little can/bottle opener that I've had (and still carry) since I was a kid, but that is going back into the early 70's.

I've had a Micra of some colour or another (like 4 stainless, 2 grey, 2 red, and now 1 pink) in my pocket for more than 15 years. Every knife or MT I've carried in that time was forced to pair with one and I don't know what I'd do without one. Here's to hoping I never have to find out.

My longest serving EDC item has to be my Casio G-Shock DW-6900.

I've got this back in '97 as a gift from my wife (my girlfriend at that time), and I still wear it to work every day.  It has seen all the jobs I ever had (about 4 long term jobs) and is still going strong after 21 years of (at some jobs) extreme use  :tu:. I stopped carrying it in my free time when I started my previous job back in 2001, which was in a factory where they build buses and touring cars, and it was quite dirty work.

Wedding ring since May 1975.

Round (coin) flat 4 bit screw driver, since 1984.

Victorinox Super Tinker since 1988

30 years. I did break the scales and dent the layers about 6 years ago and a friend gave me a Tinker Deluxe to replace it, but about a year and a half ago I repaired it best I could, and still carry it.

A Wenger Commander I got from dad in 1991 while on holiday in Switzerland.
Cleaned it en sharpened it a couple of weeks ago and it's still going strong…
