Title: Axesky sharpening system
Post by: Sparky415 on March 19, 2017, 11:03:21 PM

This idea has been kicking about in my head for some time
I wanted an easy way to 'reset' the bevels on an Axe

(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/2017/DSC06717.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/2017/DSC06717.jpg.html)

I was thinking of using it on a badly treated axe, this one is just a test (4 1/2 lb ELWELL)
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/2017/DSC06720.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/2017/DSC06720.jpg.html)

That's working  :)

Then on to a slack belt to blend in the bevels
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/2017/DSC06756.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/2017/DSC06756.jpg.html)

Holds the axe head firmly while I attack it with some 120 grit 'sandpaper'
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/2017/DSC06772.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/2017/DSC06772.jpg.html)

After the Polishing mop (probably should have waited with this final sharpening until I had hung it  ::) )

After a trip to the wire wheel and some linseed oil
(http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n184/sparky_415/2017/DSC06791.jpg) (http://s112.photobucket.com/user/sparky_415/media/2017/DSC06791.jpg.html)

Thanks Kev, I just copied the Lansky sharpening system  ;)
It's not for everyday sharpening it is to help me get angles the same both sides when I'm starting on a damaged axe   :tu:

Unistrut GOOD  :D
