I would appreciate it if everyone would post below to let me know they have seen this...

So if it goes sideways, we blame Whoey. AFTER he fixes it. Got it!

What's Speedy gonna do if it's down for an hour? :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh
Thanks, guess this explains why my forum display looks like a skeleton with no skins for past 2 days, hope it clears up.
Ok, got it! :iagree:
Does everyone have their moving buddy? 🚛Moving buddy? I call dibbs on Buzz Lightyear!
Hmm, what tool(s) should I bring...🤔
Entire Forum is much faster for me too! :like:
That will never get old!
THANKS!
Looks like everything works again :tu:Totally, I didn’t even notice a diff, until I saw spell check, which I don’t understand
Thanks Whoey for all the hard work
to make this a smooth change over
I'm one of only a few members who use the Curve theme, boot it looks different. It's mostly blue now :)

I also use the old theme and yes it looks strange. The pics don't resize either so you have to scroll. I'm hoping that we can get it back but It may be too much work for Whoey
Seen, but I think it has already been done?Looks like I spoke too soon.

Happy Birthday :)
I think we moved. But my phone tells me the site is not safe now…Yes, we could not generate a new SSL certificate until the DNS propagated to the new server, and I didn't want to switch it until I was sure everything was ok. I had some IRL stuff interfere so some things took longer than expected. Using the .ninja domain (that Grant had already) was a way for us to copy sites across and make sure they were working before disabling the old setup completely.

There was a bit of trouble during the migrating so I had to force feed an upgrade package over top which overwrote a lot of the customizations with the curve theme, it should be restored now?I'm one of only a few members who use the Curve theme, boot it looks different. It's mostly blue now :)

old server is based in Europe, new one is central US, so that's one factor, also the new server has some other speed tweaks we didn't have previously.Entire Forum is much faster for me too! :like:

All functions I tried today appear to be working now with some small exceptions - good work Whoey :salute:well spotted, it was installed, but not enabled... I guess it reset. Seems to be working now!
The exceptions are that banners for the Swiss Army Knights and maybe Charter Members are not visible yet.
Oh and the Spell Checker is no longer present as I type this...

Whoey will look into to it after the higher priority bugs are worked out. This is pretty low priority considering there are only 36 of us still using the old theme.

I'm not receiving emails for the topics I'm subscribed to.
As a matter of fact, I'm also not receiving push messages from TT for mentions and stuff.
The first thing can't be a TT flaw…
I know there are much more important things to attend to right now, but I'm just wondering.....
is there any chance the Member Map could work again on the new server?
Hi Syncopr... That would be me among others...Great to hear you're OK. :tu:
I have just looked and while there is an updated version of the member map, it requires an api key from google which now requires payment setup. :facepalm:Thanks for taking the time to look into it.
It did sort of work (just tested it) but causes 500 errors if you try and edit your profile AT ALL which is not great.
Idk if it’s the forum or me, but one min everything’s fast but then when posting or selecting something it just freezes, takes a min then will continue, all back to fast for the next few min, but then it will do the same in a while?

This is annoying, we aren't even maxing out our resources...Smurf! :(
Ten years ago, I would have posted about 20 "Beaver" pictures by now........Aha! Now we know your age. :pok:
I am not 12 anymore..
Just to keep this thread updated, it appears that our current server package may not be suitable for Multitool.org's needs.
On the up side, most of what we are getting is suitable, but as this forum keeps growing, we are maxing out certain parts of it, and so we have decided that, while everything is in disarray already, we are going to upgrade the server package now, before we hit the wall.
At some point in the next week or so we will be adding more resources, but fortunately there isn't another server move or anything that requires a huge amount of effort. It should be relatively painless, and the only change everyone here may see is things going even faster and smoother.
Even so, if you notice anything out of the ordinary, please let us know. After all, I have been making a decent living the last decade or so off the word should. Comments like "This should hold, that should be enough straps, this should fit" etc have helped (indirectly) to make MTO what it is today, and so I am not one to have a lot of faith that there won't be problems!
Still, I think this major change went as smoothly as I have ever seen a move like this done, and it is all thanks to the efforts of Micah. He may seem like the quiet sort, but the fact is we would be in very serious trouble long ago if it weren't for him. :tu:

Photo size change??? Mine is saying 512KB maximum...was over 1000KB. Has something changed???

People really should make an effort not to load overly large pictures anyway as all they do is make for having to scroll to see the larger picture when blown up.
Here's a great phone app that is really easy to use for resizing

Can’t we use the MultiTool.ninja site for old files and pics :think:That's just a different index pointing at the same files and database
Thanks for explaining WhoeyCan’t we use the MultiTool.ninja site for old files and pics :think:That's just a different index pointing at the same files and database
Splitting stuff out would be extremely tedious.
Again, once we sort more resources we do have a few ideas for improvements
The attachments system in SMF leaves a lot to be desired. Management is a very painful process (and cumbersome for the server resources) and with the approximately 40GB / 250+ thousand files it doesn't get any easier. It took several hours to sync that between our old server and new.
512k should be more than enough for an attached image, it's actually very generous. To be completely honest, images larger than 1000 pixels (on the long side) are not needed on the forum. Very few people are running higher resolutions, and more and more users are on phones and tablets with even lower resolutions and bandwidth to boot. In the case that those files are needed in high resolution (calendar selections for example) they can be stored on the MTO Gallery/sent to a mod to put on the Gallery for safekeeping. We also have some cases where someone has attached the same large image several times in different threads.
I'm looking into some mods that might help out automating some resizing but as you can imagine I'm holding off until we have more resources to not totally bog down the server. Also as Grant mentioned, there is a thread dedicated to resizing options, and there are tons of tools out there to resize images easily for free.
So 1000 is large? I didn’t realize that. I was just getting use to cropping my photos from 12,000 to 1,000, I can crop it to 500 like I have been doing today. But think we should be looking for another solution...I think there is a program that will automatically downsize the incoming photo to the forum, and post it to a given size. Don’t know $$$Photo size change??? Mine is saying 512KB maximum...was over 1000KB. Has something changed???

Only my laptop has a screen with over 3000 pixels on one axis, and it's a rarity. My tablet is also odd since it's 2560x1800. Over the holidays I had to look at laptops for my nephew, and had to warn my brother in law not to buy the "HD" (1366x768) one he was looking at. :facepalm:The attachments system in SMF leaves a lot to be desired. I do not agree with you there, that is too small for details to be seen if you don't want the object to fill the whole frame.
1mb was just enough for me.
Note, regarding the Gallery I think that needs to be payed for?
PS: Even cheaper phones these days do about 3000x3000 and more.
I do already resize and compress my pics :dunno:
Anyhow, good job and thanks for all Whoey :hatsoff:
Our gallery does not cost our users, but it's currently not the greatest setup as a companion to the forum...Works good for me. :tu:
It's nice to have, but most photos don't need enough pixels to allow enough zoom to see grains of dust on the tool. :D

Cropping is also a good idea for more detail in a smaller photo. Factor in that the forum itself takes a chunk of the screen real estate too.
Any ways, it's also to do with quantity of files and the storage we have available, and overall usability on the forum. While I agree I personally prefer hi resolution photos, it's less relevant in a "what are you carrying today" type thread where many photos are attached to the thread.
Our gallery does not cost our users, but it's currently not the greatest setup as a companion to the forum, or mobile devices. Again, things are in motion, but we're still firefighting after the move.

And cropping everything but the small area of interest to keep the size down is a good solution if you do need the HD Retina resolution.
IMHO and YMMV.
What about saving them in an album here? http://gallery.multitool.org/The difference being that's much easier to manage, it resizes automatically, making easily loadable sized photos for the forum, yet retaining large size if more detail is needed.
I guess it's still taking up space on the server though. :dunno:

Unfortunately I cannot login to it :dunno:It uses a different login to the forum (but you could just use the same Username/Password when setting it up )
Yes, that's another reason it's not ideal.
Accounts are setup by request rather than some sort of bridged integration, but that also gives us some control over it.
