Gerber 600 DET with heads swapped out for Paul Chen Multitasker shears. They don't spring open like the PCMT, but the whole purpose of getting the Gerber all that time ago was to find a better host for the shears. They are a little sticky on deployment at the moment, but I'll probably work on that in another 6-12 months :P
(Which all means I've got some DET heads going spare :pok:)

So 50 instead of carefully defusing explosives you are just going to cut ALL the wires at once with those shears :think: :P :D :D :D
What do you plan on using the shears for mate :think: :think:
I tend to use my Paul Chen MT as heavy duty scissors :think: :think:

No explosives for me mate, we dont get on. Lost an arguement to some stage pyros years ago so tend to steer clear now :D
It's heading off to the "dingy" to compliment the Swissgrip. Put together I've got some of the biggest/heaviest duty opions available on multitools including shears, pliers, wood saw, metal saw, marlin spike/general pokey thing, high torque for hex bits and of course the folding machete
I like to have the heavier tools down there as that's where the more challenging tasks tend to appear. I reckon the two should work together nicely. :tu:

Just noticed tonight how little redundancy there is. Only one has can opener and only one has bottle opener, one plain blade, one serrated etc. This could work quite well :)

I do like the looks of that set up. :) Other than the shear jaws themselves, the rest of the Paul Chen seems a little clunky. :P Marrying up the shears to a set of Gerber handles really brings out the best in both. :)

For sure. The Paul Chen certainly is an oddball tool. I quite liked the quirkiness and personally had no issues with the outboard pliers, but some of the other tools were quite lacking. Similarly the DET's pliers aren't great for civilian use, but the rest of the tool set is very good, and I love the spike

I have BOB, yes - but ironically only the shears which would have worked better with the Paul Chen opening spring arrangement :-\

You get a Paul Chen Multi Tasker like this one ;

Remove the shears from it.
You get your self a Gerber mp 400 or 600 like this one

Remove the pliers & instal the shears from the Paul Chen Multi Tasker into the Gerber MT.
The shears may well fit into other Gerber MTs as well :think: :think: :think:

@ MTlitton: Just to add, they are not a great fit straight away and you need to do a little refining (which I've not done yet) to get them smooth in operation

I got mine for £10 (GBP) on clearance. Unfortunately the store that sold them is out and they're discontinued so you'd have to check ebay, amazon or the trade forums here I reckon

Why won't the spring loading work again?
I have a broken BO MP600 that could be perfect for donation to my own Gerber Shears.

The spring loading mechanism is in the handles of the PC multitasker not the shear heads themselves. If you look at the tool Mat posted it's in the black section at the top

Nice work Metro :tu: My quick and easy solution for the extending shear heads (not fully retracting) was put it in it's sheath - works really well :rofl:
I'm still going to attenmpt this at some point, but would be looking for something less snagable (enclosed spring) if possible rather than the "crosscut" look. Effectively I think that would be something like you've done but with either modification of the old Paul Chen covers or even a G10 type cover. Tools with snaggy bits around boats/rivers/canals tend to go splash before very long somehow, then you get to spend the afternoon fishing with a magnet on a length of cord :-\
Did the spring loop fit comfortably over the protruding hinge?

it does't quite when it's closed and locked, but it slips over it when in use.
I quite like the cross cut look :)
I was trying to see if I could fit it on inside using a small torsion spring and tapping into the shear head itself, but it's was SLIM inside there.
