Title: June Donation Draw- A (Custom!) Cut Above!
Post by: Grant Lamontagne on June 08, 2016, 06:02:13 PM
This month's Donation Draw came to me from a member at the last moment, but don't worry, it's late because of me, not because of what it is or where it came from.  Usually I try to hide where it came from so that the donator doesn't get embarrassed, but I have a feeling that many of you will recognize it!

Yup, that's the one you are thinking of!

Originally it was a Boker Plus Titanium Kwaiken (https://www.boker.de/us/pocket-knife/boker-plus/tactical-knife/01BO296.html) designed by Lucas Burnley.  This is the titanium version with VG-10 blade- not the cheaper micarta version because, well, this is MTO and our members like to do the job right!

To that end, the generous member who has donated this knife has expertly filed some jimping on the flipper.  It seems that while Lucas Burnley may be a knife designing prodigy, he isn't quite there yet, and still has some tricks to learn from our guys!

According to Boker (just in case clicking the link above was too difficult!):

Quote
After the overwhelming success of the Kwaiken Folder, Lucas Burnley went back to the drawing board and designed this new version.  This exclusive new model features a VG-10 steel blade with a flipper, and sleek titanium handle scales.  Liner lock mechanism.  Includes pocket clip.  Blade length: 3 1/2". Overall length: 8 3/8".  Weight: 5.4 oz.

I guess he should have shared that drawing board with one of our guys!

According to the generous member who donated this, the knife is not new, and has a small scratch on the blade and a few light scratches in the titanium.  You know what that means- this is no shelf queen, and is ready to be put to work!

Seriously, that is one sleek looking knife!

So, it's been a couple of months since we did a regular Donation Draw, so in case you are new or just have a memory that lasts less than 60 days (like mine) then I shall explain to you how you can make this knife yours... or try to at least!

Make a donation of at least $10USD to the Forum Operational Fund by using the Make a Donation box in the right hand column, the Donations link at the top of the page or by clicking this link here:

http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?action=treasury

You will also need to take credit for the donation- donations made anonymously can't be entered in the draw, since I won't know who you are.   :pok:

Donations also need to be made prior to midnight on June 30th (Forum Offset Time) or they won't count towards this draw.  Donations made after that time will be put towards next month's draw though, so you won't really lose out.

IF we manage to make the goal of $275.00 before midnight on June 15th (again, Forum Offset time) then we will do an Early Bird Draw for everyone who donated to that point, and all of the names stay in the main draw for the Kwaiken- even the Early Bird winner, so you could theoretically win twice!

If we don't make the goal then we won't be giving away this prize- it will go back into the MTO vault to be given away for some other reason some other time.

Since this knife was customized and donated by a generous member, let's make sure we show him how much we all appreciate his generosity by pushing the donations to the limit (and then some!) this month!   :pok:

And a HUGE thank you to whomever you are!

Come on folks, let's show this member that we appreciate his sacrifice in donating this beautifully customized knife!   :pok:

We don't want him to feel bad, do we?

Indeed it is!  Thanks for kicking us a little closer to the goal so that this beautiful piece gets that much closer to finding a new home!

Do like I did, instead of feeding your dragon that yummy pizza on the TV, donate that to MTO instead. You'll not gain the weight and MTO can get supported for another month.

Did you know Mr. Lamontagne has been paying for the server fees and upkeep for all our spamming, trying to attain badges, and whatnot all on his own?  :ahhh

And if you feel guilty, buy the pizza anyhow and satisfy your dragon.

Actually, I funded the site completely out of pocket for years, but these days the Donation Draw and ad service handles many of the expenses.

The site is only partially funded out of pocket.

Are you seriously not making money off this, boss? To add this to the July giveaway/shipping bonanza?
I knew you were buying a brand new pink yacht with the money from this forum, but I figured it must be paying for itself by now and at least giving you an extra salary...
Why is MTO hosting so darned expensive? I had a small forum back in the day and it cost me close to nothing to keep up. I closed it as I'm not as good at talking to myself as you were getting off the ground...

There's more than just server costs on a site like this.  :D

If you want more details I'd be happy to discuss it a little more in PM's but I don't think it's something to be discussed in the open.

This is one beautiful knife... looks far too aggressive for edc (so sharp and pointy and katana-like... with flipper nonetheless) but ow so beautiful... one of the prettiest modern folders that I've ever seen.
