This was a bit of a surprise- I wasn't expecting to meet "the Man" himself at the show, but lo and behold there he was!
Naturally, we had to get a picture! :D

You're with Tim Leatherman!!!
-
Wow, guys that's really cool. What did he say to you guys. Did he know about multitool.org
-
Great little momento to guys have there. :)
-
I'll bet you were shocked!
-
Wow... nice. What did you say to him?
-
Bob wasn't very nice to him at all- in fact, this is the fourth picture we'd taken as Bob kept making faces and sticking up his fingers behind Tim Leatherman's head... >:D
Just kidding- he seemed like a really nice guy, but we met up with him about 5 minutes before the end of the show so we didn't get much of a chance to talk to him.
And if you think that's a great memento, wait till you see what's in store for today! :D
Def
-
Come on then, out with it!
-
I'd hate to say what it is and take a chance on it falling through... but if it works out it will be tres cool!

You actually STOLE Tim Leathermans' watch as you shook his hand?!?!?! :o
-
WoW, very nice boss, can't wait to hear your announcement! (please don't let it be Tim's boxers...)

Tim Leatherman is by far the coolest person in American History!!

Oh, I thought you were quoting Tim Leatherman here, Def. ;) :D He's lucky to meet supporters such as yourself, a rep of Multitool.org! BTW, they always hold that show in the same place?
-
Neat! Did you ask him what tool he was carrying? :D

Blasphemy!
Actually I almost joked in my post that it was probably a Spirit... If he did, would that make the VicFans think more or less of LM? :P :D
-
How is this for an heirloom? :D
Def
-
Nice! Wow... that's really nice of him. It's not like he could have just taken out a marker and gave you his autograph. That's some effort.
-
Bob and I also got him to autograph some PST's that we got at the show. They were selling the PST's to support the National Shooting Sports Federation which is the organization that runs the SHOT Show.

That's really cool Def. Something to hold on to forever. What did he think of the multitool.org scales?
-
Wow thats very cool guy's 8)

Tim told us he was honored that we would go to such great lengths to customize one of his tools. Being familiar with the difficulties of manufacturing, he of course realized the challanges of reverse-dimensioning the new scales, machining them from solid aluminum, anodizing, and laser etching the logo. We had originally requested that he autograph the tool directly on the green scales, but Tim felt that this might result in chipping or damaging the anodize layer. It was his suggestion to autograph the blade instead, which of course came out fine. (lets face it, the man does know his multitools!) :)
-
This awful, I really feel like I'm missing out by not being there
One year...one year :)

I bet that blade is never getting used again.
*pictures Def caressing his signed Charge, muttering "My precious."*

Great heirloom that guys! A true keeper that one. :)
-
Did Tim tell you you had voided the warrenty :P
Nice one guys I'm a little green with envy
Dunc
-
Very cool!
-
Did you ask Tim if he plans on releasing leftie friendly versions? As a leftie I still love the SURGE!! but I could do with having the knife blades on the opposite sides and to have the serrated blade ground to match.
-
Did you ask him what he EDC's?

At the Shot Show? No my good man, only camoflage ball caps or genuine coonskin hats are allowed on the Show floor! ;)
-
I am not exactly impressed with where Leatherman has gone with their tool lines,But.....
I am impressed with what he did for Def.
Note........Before I am lynched,I still think that Leatherman makes a decent tool,I have nothing against anyone's choice in a MultiTool......

To be quite honest, EVERYONE at the Leatherman booth was generous with their time and as enthusiastic to meet us as we were to meet them. One gets the clear impression that not only is Tim Leatherman an outstanding design engineer, he is also a wonderful "people person." We found ourselves on a first name basis with him, his wife, and several other Leatherman employees by the time we left. Truly a great experience. :)
Oh, and one more thing; during our stay at the Leatherman booth, several of you gentlemen were asked about by name.... ;)
-
Thats is what I meant.Just because their product line has gone in a different direction,it does not make them bad people.I am glad that they were nice to all who visited.I just wish that they would run a "Classic" line.

Alright, own up. which one of us is it. Who works for Leatherman. :D
-
Bob,
It's great to know that they visit our site, actually know some of our names, & know what we write. Maybe we can actually have a relationship in the future with these folks designing even better tools going forward. I'm open to it.

Ah but did they name our "screen names" or our "real names" that would tell us how well they read the forum! Its good to hear that we do have the ears of various company employees though, makes it all this talk actually worth something :P !

Did you ask him what he EDC's?
A Vic Spirit! >:D
-
I'm pleased to hear that the founder of my favourite tool company is a decent guy. :) It does make a huge difference.

The Leatherman folks made it clear that they would prefer to keep a low profile around here and simply gather information and opinions. The thinking is that active participation in the forums by them could perhaps affect the honest feedback they would otherwise get.
Which, we learned yesterday, is the same strategy that at least two other knife and tool companies employ here at Multitool.org :)
So consider your posts wisely my friends, as you never know who might be reading them!
-
''Feeling...crushing weight...resposability'' :D
-
I wont.If I did they would not get an honest opinion of how I feel.Although hearing you say what you just did about them makes me rethink me feelings about them a bit.I might even start saving a bit of loot to pick up a new Wave.
Just dont tell the SOSAK people....LOL

Whoa, that autograph is awesome!
I liked reading about the SHOT show the past year or two on various sites, but now I want to go! :ahhh

That's fine, but I think we have some ideas that are pretty good around here for tool improvements. I would dearly love to see some of them actually make it to future tools. Working with us could lead to even better tools with the kind of detailed feedback we can give. I've personally worked with companies like this including Bose & several others. I think it would be better than the car Homer Simpson designed. ::)

We're being watched :-[
I'll try not to let it affect me.
arh-hurh-hem!
JUST QUIETLY, BETWEEN US MEMBERS, I THINK THE KICK/FUSE/BLAST ("TRADITIONAL") LEATHERMAN STYLE RANGE SHOULD BE IMPROVED UPON. IF NOT BY ADDING ADDITIONAL ITEMS TO THE RANGE, THEN BY CREATING INTERCHANGABLE BLADES AND EASIER END USER MODIFICATION.
SOME OF US WANT A GODDAMN REAMER ON OUR REGULAR SIZED MULTIS!
ALSO: SEND ME A SUPERTOOL, NICOLE HAS MY ADDRESS.

I have a SuperTool 200 at home for you... brand new in the clam pack.

Unfortunately not. I grabbed this one from a member on KF because I knew Nomad was interested, but he doesn't deal financially with Those Who Dwell Atop! I thought I'd give him a hand and pick it up then work some kind of trade. If that didn't work out, it could join my collection. Instead I'll put you in second place if Nomad and I don't get something sorted out.
