To all the new members here, and to anyone who may be looking to make a deal with new members, please read the following.
We have had a problem with new members signing up on the forum and PMing spam to members, so we have attempted to combat this by removing the abilities of members with less than 5 posts to send Private Messages. For legitimate signups, making five posts shouldn't be a problem, even if you are in a hurry to buy a hot commodity.
We have set it up so that members with less than 5 posts can receive Private Messages, so a post in a sale or trade thread saying "I'm interested, please send me details" should get the ball rolling for you.
I'm sorry we have had to restrict people like that. If there are any issues, please feel free to post them in the Q&A Forum (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/board,22.0.html) and we will all do our best to help sort through it.
Of course, by the time you post "I'll take it" in a trade forum, post a hello here in the New Members Forum and ask about PM's in the Q&A forum you'll be almost there.....

Hi Scott
Received your PM but for some strange reason I can't send a PM back.
Dave, two more posts here (5 posts minimum) and your PM's will work :tu:
-
Received, will comply :)
-
Thanks for this post - I was wondering why I can't PM the seller, now it's clear :)
-
Thank You for the explanation, which makes perfect sense.
-
Hello Grant,
Thank you for your explanation - I too was wondering why I'm as yet unable to PM a member.
Regarding the explanation...I suppose, I'm compelled to agree with Grant :D
Cheers, nj

Excellent protocol :tu:

Good to know.

Understood. Thanks for the explanation!

Multitool.org is always an open book to members. I am sorry that this inconvenience has to be in place for legitimate members, and I am open to other suggestions if anyone has any. :D

Force new users to participate in a "Ninja Warrior" type obstacle course if they want to send PM's before they make 5 posts?
-
That would be pretty cool indeed, but financially and logistically it could be a bit difficult.
Def
-
If we could get it into syndication that might just make it worthwhile  :D

Sounds good Sir. This is my first time as I've been more of a lurker so hopefully you'll remember my sign in name and be free in correcting any mistakes I make, no worries.

We tend to be a pretty forgiving bunch here so I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. Welcome to the forum- crank out four more posts ad this won't affect you at all!

Ok stupid question but is there like a PM button or something I'm supposed to click. I have my 5 posts. Thanks!!
-
Click on the person's avatar and a few small icons should show up. Click on the one that looks like a comic book style word balloon and that will allow you to PM that person. Or, you can click on "My Messages" in the green bar at the top of your screen and that will take you to the Message Center where you can review your messages or send one.

Hi, I've just joined MT as I regularly use Leathermans and have 2 for sale. If anyone is interested I will be posting full details in the For Sale section shortly! 😃

Very useful thread wish I had realized that before trying to PM one of the mods about something.

I apologise for the inconvenience it causes new members. If you have any serious complaints, feel free to forward them to the customer service department at SPAMCORP (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,55947.0.html).

I don't consider it to be an inconvenience at all, merely good management.
No problem with complying with such a reasonable request.

I'm a bit of a lurker, but it's a good way to ensure we all have a look at the rules!

Makes perfect sense. Thanks for posting the details. I could not find the reason why I didn't have a PM option. Now I know the reason. Thanks!

Hi all!
Been lurking around from Virginia for over a year drooling over longbow's bucktool collection and the monthly give aways. Got my first SAK while in the Boy Scouts during the mid 80's, my first Leatherman PST and Gerber MP in the early 90's while in the Marine Corps. And I still have them! Along with many others (leatherman, geber, sog, buck, crkt, benchmade, craftman [rebranded bear jaws], generic brands and us military pocket knives [its not a demo knive!!! It merely came with the demo tool kit and as a stand alone issue from the 40's to the 90's].
I really enjoy seeing and reading about everyone's collections and I always come here first when researching a tool/knife model that I haven't seen before.

This make perfectly good sense to me. Looks like an outstanding site. I'm building a company here in Bend,Oregon USA and I need a source just like this.
I'll not bore you with the details now - maybe a little later. :salute:
Thanks for the wicked nice resource - hope I can add to the stew.

Roger Kilo-Bravo. I was just checking the post that looked liked rules and policies. Guess I picked a "Good To Know" post as my first post read.

A question from a newbie - is the ability to post PMs automatically driven once the 5-post criteria is met, or is it manually enabled by the Administrator team?

Im not much of an active user, mainly joined to try to sell a XAVT knife i have, i have a person who messaged me that hes interested in it but im unable to respond to him. Do i need to post 5x randomly on any form like to make it so i can respond to him?
Thanks, Evan
-
Would be better to try to be a part of the community and sell the knife rather than just joining to sell something :salute:
You have your 5 posts now so you should be able to reply. Try and join in some of the conversations  you might find that you enjoy the camaraderie :salute:

:iagree:

Hello, will I be able to reply to someone's message if I don't have 5 posts? I wanna buy something and might need to reply to the offer.
Thanks!
-
You only have to post three more
times and you can reply to messages :tu:
-
Its a wonderful community so I'd also encourage y'all to engage. While I understand this is a captive audience for merely selling off items I'll encourage those who come here to simply do that to read https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,21414.0.html
It'd be wonderful if you'd contribute if your sell goes thru :hatsoff:.

Welcome new members. I thought it would be a good idea to repost the above ^^^. There is some very good advice how to go about getting to the 5 posts needed to access the PM feature.
Post 1 can be as Boss says in the thread with the item you'd like.
Post 2 can be introducing yourself.
Post 3 could be a response to the sale thread letting the seller know you are working your way to 5 posts.
Post 4 could be a post in your introduction post thanking folks for responding.
I'm pretty sure post 5 wont be that hard once you've got the ball rolling.
Again, welcome new members. This is a great community and once you get posting you might see that. You will also be in the "loop" if and when something else goes up for sale that you like.

Just made my first post. Happy to join this community.
