Picked up a Tilley AirfloLTM6 back when Gander Mountain a town over was going under. Think i got it for 40ish bucks. It finally got a good wearing doing yard work yesterday. I'm a redhead so it works well to shade my noggin while mowing and weed eating. It's more comfortable than my Outdoor Research Helios, breathes better too. I'd say I would pay full price for one knowing the lifetime warranty it has and the comfort it provides.

I'm going to have to look into that. All my work clothes made by Dickies are hard used and are awesome for the price.

All my shirts are dickies, the hats ok, it just seems very light and flimsy, the top seems to have a piece of cardboard in it idk if it’s just for show and I’m suppose to take it out or it stays?

I don’t remember where I was but I did the same thing, there was a huge box full of hats and for some reason these two just jumped out at me, one all leather, made down under, I did some research and it was a pretty expensive hat, and that’s just down there let alone paying to get it up in the US. Then another that also wasn’t a cheap hat, I think I ended up paying $2 each, the Mrs still thinks it’s a waste, heck even if I only ware it once it’s still not a waste for that price!

I've had this Tilley for about 10 years. I think I picked it up in Vancouver, Canada.
Great hat.
This style is one of my favorites. I've worn this hat hiking, camping, kayking, canoeing, and just walking the dog.
This style Tilley is actually a lot like the older style Army hats worn by US forces early in the Vietnam era. One of the reasons I'm attached to it. :salute:
-
I've been wearing a Tilley for almost ten years. I have worn out several and had them all replaced under warranty until my last one when I felt like I'd taken enough freebies and bought my first Airflow one, which I wear all year round.
I still have my last two, one of which has the big R in it meaning it's been replaced, and another that wore out and I never had replaced. If I should change my mind about that, I can do it pretty well any time.
Megan has a nice oilskin one that I like very much and wouldn't mind having one as well for rainy days.
If I'm not careful, I could find myself owning a dozen of them!

I wear mine here quite a bit. It's 115 degrees out while mowing the yard. :ahhh

I was looking around, but I can't find my first one! :ahhh

OK, that's just wrong.
But, when faced with such insanity, I get my Tilley nice and wet and then head outside to do what I need to do. Then I spend the next 15 minutes sucking down iced tea. Just a word of experience thar..........

When the Fall rains arrive, and I'm going to be standing around in a wet stream, trying to fool some stupid fish, I turn to a waxed Filson lid:

In summer, I tend to wear a straw hat more often than my Tilley, it's lighter and cooler. The Tilley offers better shade, especially when the sun is low in the sky, and can be crumpled when packed, makes a great spring and fall hat for me, and stays on my head better in a wind. The Tilley is also my favourite folk festival hat. 30+ years of ownership, several hats.

The Tilley is almost impossible to remove from my head with both straps utilized. Gale-force hat. :tu:
-
An original Tilley was my work hat for seven years. In that time it faded from khaki to almost white, and all but disintegrated. The effect of the New Zealand sun combined with summer sweat.

Yep. One of the great things about it was how it stayed on even when driving an open tractor at top speed, into exactly that wind force. :hatsoff:
-
I bought my first Tilley a couple of years and and it's been my trusty companion since the day I got it. The pic bellow was taken during our trip to Austria last years, some things have changed in this setup for this year's Austria trip (Rebar got replaced by a Vic Evo28, the Garmin Fenix got replaced by the Casio GWG-1000-1A3ER, and the MTO Pioneer X also came along this year), but the Tilley was one of the first things I packed.
I even got a second one, just the same as my first one, to have a spare .... (and so it begins ... :ahhh).

I still have the Swisstool and the Signal, and I thought those two cover everything the Rebar does, like replaceable cutters and dedicated drivers etc ...
And I really like the Evo28, it's the first SAK that was able to take the place of my trusty Swisschamp (which I also brought along to Austria, be it in my camera bag).

I've always wanted a Tilley. I may finally succumb to the urge this year. I was wondering if anyone here has a Montana Fedora, and if so, would share your thoughts on it. Cooler weather is around the corner and I was thinking of trying one out.

Been looking closer at Tilley and think I may have decided on the TTW2 Tec-Wool hat. Now I just have to decide what to sell to pay for it

The second row down? The black one I got as a gift, it’s from glock but I put a MT.o patch over their symbol, the black/white is from headblade, I lived off of their product, and that gray was my grandfathers.. I really don’t know my things on hats, sorry.

I have one of those leather hats, and yes they are quite expensive at around $80.00 each.
But very comfortable and virtually indestructible.
I have shaped mine for comfort and Ill take a picha when I get home and post it.
But its mostly winter wear, it gets way too hot in summer.
In summer I wear an Acubra hat, made from Rabbit pelts.
It breathes better and isn't so hot to wear, my favourite is the Cattleman, its higher and more comfortable to me.
When you are bald like me, ya needs ta wear a hat.
Nothing worse than a burnt scalp and its one thing you can easily get in Australia ....sunburn
This is an Acubra Cattleman at around $160.00 it aint cheap

Nice headgear, Valkie! :like:
-
This is ol leather.
Its seen many years of hard use, been swimming several times.
Copped hail, rain and being stomped on.
but a bit of leather conditioner every few months makes it suple and comfortable.
You cant see the shape real good, but it rolls forward over my eyes so I look from under the edge, with nust a little movement I can cut off the sun and see.
The back fully covers my neck.
This old workhorse is a beauty

I got an Echo backpack blower this season. A great investment. Now instead of a whole day of raking it takes me just a couple hours of blowing. Even does a decent job on powder snow. :tu:

I don't know how large your yard is but a shopvac works fairly well. Just put those hose on the opposite end and off you go. I also was out blowing leaving and sweeping. Makes fast work of my small yard.

Just found this thread. My good old olive T3 has been a companion on many a hike, dog walk, shoot, camp and paddle over the years. I have however just ordered a new one! Not because I've worn out my old one (though no-one could blame it, if it was) but because they've got a sale on ATM and I ordered a different colour.

All I can say is that I really like my Tilley hat(s) :tu:.
I used to wear a cap most of the time, but after I bought myself a Tilley the cap stays home when I go for a nature hike, or on vacation. I still use the cap to go to work, or for daily use. But for hiking, nothing beats the Tilley.

If it's a particularly warm day, I will sometimes give my hat a good soaking in water. As the wet hat dries it provides some relief.

Tilley Hat thread bump. :D
It's already hot here in Texas. Just ordered a Tilley Hiker's Hat, T4MO-1, in khaki . It comes with a cooling insert you soak in ice water and put up in the top of the hat to cool you. Hear it works decently.
This will be Tilley hat number 2 after my LTM6 in multicam.
-
Never heard of this brand before bumping into this thread, though recently bought a Buff hat that looks quite like it and I love it really - great for all sorts of outdoor adventures

I wear baseball caps when doing errands around town. For outdoor play, it's a Tilley or similar brimmed hat.
The exception, sometimes, is Winter. Sometimes in Winter I'll wear a baseball cap with a wool or fleece beanie over the top of that: insulation plus a bit of glare relief.
Similarly, I occasionally pair up a Buff fo sun protection with a baseball cap. If I lived in an area with more rain.....maybe a baseball cap that could fit under a rain jacket hood. I've done that fishing, too. Although I've also stood out in the rain with a Tilley dripping water down the back of my neck....... (Actually, the Tilley does a decent job of rain protection. As it gets wet, the fibers swell and shed rain pretty well.)
But in general, I like to protect my ears and neck from the sun, so a wide-brimmed hat like the Tilley is my go-to.

The hat is ancient...... I have no idea what model it is or if they still make it. Just your basic canvass Tilley with a double chin strap (very effective) and a few brass vents. I love it and hope it lasts the rest of my life (good chance there.).
The chin strap has long since been replaced with paracord. No real reason, I just had some on hand.
The stick is a Komperdell Camera staff (https://www.rei.com/rei-garage/product/183280/komperdell-camera-walking-staff-single). I saw it in an REI and really liked it. It has been a great stick. I broke the cork ball on the top (entirely my fault). I called Komperdell and they had a new one in the mail to me within a couple days. No charge. Just excellent customer support.
I added some duct tape and bank line to the stick for repair/first aid use. I do this with most of my sticks. :tu:

It looks like the 3 Day Assault. It's an awesome pack. Their military line is top notch. I'm bummed they don't sell packs to fit the Nice frame anymore

Looks like I am done with Tilley. This is the Tag inside my latest hat.

You'll have to find old stock. Not surprised at companies sending manufacturing off shore. I"m sure there are many available in stores that are made in Canada still. Be a good time to locate and buy. So going forward tho, any warranties will be off shore made product?
-
Well, that's very disappointing. I very much I doubt they'll suddenly get a lot cheaper to buy :-\
-
Allegedly they now have multiple tiers of products, and the China made ones are manufactured at a lower price point for big box retailers.
I believe some are and will continue to be made in Canada. But, I was already at the point where I was looking at other brands. With this development, I think it's time I start looking again- I should have a few years at least before I need to replace this one.
Maybe I'll go back to Akubra.

It saddens me to see an iconic company like Tilley going the same road like lots of others went on before them :-[
The new owner might be the reason :dunno:
However, I think the T3 is still made in Canada.
At least the one I've got recently is :tu:

Looks like I paid over $100 CDN for my Paddler's hat last year, which doesn't fit properly and is made in China.
smurf that, they have enough of my $$.
I could swallow $40 for a China made hat, but over a hundred. Nope nope nope nope.

It is such a shame that another company is going the “Made in China” path. I had been looking at getting a sun hat and Tilley was on I was looking at. According to REI’s website the Wanderer is still made in Canada, but I’d want to verify first.

Nice hat, a little steep if you ask me, especially if your getting a made in china, I mean don’t get me wrong, my everyday rough wear hat is a made in china but I think I only paid $12 for it, and it’s lasted me about 12yrs.. now for a light sun hat I bought a dickies a few years back, it’s much lighter the brim is maybe an inch wider, and the top of the sides has a mesh all the way around, and I think I only paid $25 for that, there’s pics of it on the first page of this subject, here’s a pic of my every day, I have a second which I added three buttons around the back to add a drop cloth to keep the sun off my neck if it came time for it, it stores in a mesh pocket in the top of the hat,

You should be pretty safe on that one. Given what I know now, I'd strongly suggest looking at the tag before you buy.

My Tilley hiker's hat couldn't keep me cool this summer even with the blue thing you soak in water to keep cool. I'm in the market for a big ass straw hat.
It's hotter this year than the last couple of years.
