Dont forget the other Ant!

Great little knife for the price and comes off the same line as the Ontario Rat.

ESEE & Ontario are/were related for a long time too.

Stag sounds really cool.  Nice thing is you can make scales since the ones they come with are removable.  Heck G10, carbon fiber, stag, horn  etc etc.  Be neat to see with you come up with.

Its a good size blade.  I don't have one but from what all I've read and have seen on video its very capable as well.  Top warranty too so use it like you stole it.

Took it out today just to take a look and swing it a couple times.

Personally, it still seems like an "in-between" knife. I need something smaller for food prep (going to use Mora in SS) and would still prefer a hatchet for chopping. Time will tell I suppose.

I had it and used it and loved it! Unfortunately I sold it to help fund the trip home for Christmas, I probably won't track down another, if I'm going to own a knife that size I'll go up to the junglas.

My next ESEE will probably be the Lazer strike, definitely not the prettiest knife ever made but it checks all my boxes and more. I handled a 4 and a 6 in person, the 4 felt useless, too small and the choil doesn't work in my hand.

A lot of of people have recommended the 4hm or 6hm, but the spear point on the strike is the seller for me.

I could have this wrong but I think Creek Stewart used one for a while.  I seemed to recall his show Fat Guys in the Woods, or something like that where I recall the Laser Strike.  Certainly looks like a great knife.  One things for sure, you can rest assured Esees warrant is pretty bomb proof from what I read.

Lisa, I think you are going to like them!  BTW, since you are buying from TKC, and if you happen to have a BK14/24, definitely please check out their extended scale/handle for the knife.  It totally transformed that knife into something different and has now became one of my favorite go to.

Here's my Izula II and JG3.  The JG3 just arrived this weekend.  I bought it because I don't care for the Kydex sheath of the Izula II and the JG3 comes with a leather sheath.  I know I could have just ordered or made a leather sheath for the Izula II, but in my MTO affected brain it made perfect sense to order another knife.
The JG3 has a very comfortable handle that fits my hand perfectly, and the leather sheath is really nice.  I thought they were closer in size, but the JG3 is a full inch longer than the Izula II. The size difference might make it more difficult to EDC.

Post by: Aloha on September 06, 2021, 03:57:06 PM
The JG3 has nice lines.  The Izula is a nice little knife as well.  They are pretty different so it made perfect sense to have both  :tu:.

Are they similar in blade thickness?

The JG3 looks to be the tiniest bit thinner.

Nice comparison.  I like both sheath materials.  Leather is always nice since I live in a hot dry environment plus I treat all my leather.  I also like the Izual sheath as well.  I did a slight mod to mine to I could wear I horizontal on my belt which is nice option.

I really like the blade shape on that JG3.  I'm more a fan of narrow blades vs wide.  I also don't mind the coating on the Esee.  Its nice however the JG3 is without.  Such different knives its no wonder you picked it up.  I do hope it works out for you.

That is a nifty looking Nesmuk knife.  I hope it works as well as it looks.  I saw it on SMKW's sale listings a couple of days ago and would snap one up if I had any money.  As it is, I happen to be carrying my JG3 today.  I love this knife.

Since our October Fix blade event, I do carry either of my Izula or Izula II, as one sheath is. I figured for neck carry. Works well under my vest.

Have been waiting for the Ashley Game knife in S35VN to be restocked by ESEE, but always admired the JG5 because of the blade shape that would compliment either Izula for day hikes or camping lite overnights.

It actually is a thinner blade than appears and it’s weight is very manageable.  I would not use for chopping or baton if, yet it can dispatch up to 3/4” to 1 “ branches for a summer cooking fire to boil water or cook up a packaged one pot meal.

I will test it out on a patio fire this winter, the handle is very comfortable for my xxl hands!

PS:  The sheath is top notch!   I am planning to treat the insides with mineral oil over the holidays to condition the thick leather open grain.

Located south of you in northern Ohio west of Toledo.

Thats a very nice Esee. Those handles look great and I appreciate them doing a leather sheath for this one.  Go hard on it as Esee has quite the warranty from all I read.

Esee Club?
Count me in.

Esee4 new with kydex that was with it back then, bought years ago but somehow never used it. Might as well sell it...
Esee3, a user
Esee Izula I with scales, tested paracord which got messy too quick and the shorter scales that leave the hole open, but only these large scales work for me.

Somewhere there is also an Ontario Rat3 but I cant find it right now. Has a shorter handle thats why I prefer the Esee3 over it.

A nice looking family of ESEEs Shuya.

I too had issue with Izula handle length until I found some G10 handles from Knife Connection. Provided same handle length and a bit more thickness than my II.

Here is my ESEE Avispa. I bought this in 2018 at Smoky Mountain Knife Works, an awesome store up in Tennessee.

I was starting a new job at the time and was pretty broke or I would have bought at least an Izula. Still looking at them pretty hard. This thread makes my Amazon Prime nervous.  ::) ::)

I am able to resist only due to lack of funds. But I hope to purchase a Candiru or an Izula once I've sold off a few things...

I really hate do this😔

But a great price at SMKW posted12/31,

It is nice Spartan, a practical camp cook knife.

A tad heavy for a survival bush crafting knife.
