Title: The Micra owners club
Post by: Pacu on March 06, 2011, 09:23:31 PM
This should be an easy club for everyone to get in. :D

So what do you have? I have 2 stainless, one anodised blue..and recently just got 2 green, 1 red and one blue plastic covered micras at a flea market nib. Next on my quest are the elusive painted ones.

The Micra surely must be the greatest multitool ever made. :salute:

Here's a couple of painted ones, still in their boxes

nice painted J-sews!
what's the date code on those? I'm trying to get a dated period time line in the transition from painted, to plastic to anodised.

The plastic covered one i opened is 0801

The red is 1099/0800, and the blue is 0900/0900 :)

The painted Micras are fingernailproof, but other metal will scratch them rather easily. Nowadays most of them for sale are missing a lot of paint. :-\

I'm in, with a standard stainless and an anodised blue.  Much as I like the Juice range there's no doubt the Micra still holds several big advantages over them. :tu:

I finally got myself a Micra last Friday. It was sitting on a peg at the local hardware store, all dusty and forlorn. The Date codes are from '08, and it was brand-new in the blister pack. All I have to say is WOW! How the heck did I get along without it for so long? I carried a Classic or a Vic Executive on my keys for years, and the Micra has already replaced them on my keys. Great little too!l

Bought one of these for $25 at a Bass Pro Shop, knew it was high but I get to play with instantly so I bought it.

Complements a Surge nicely (fits right in the Surge's sheath's side pocket) and doubles as something I wouldn't be too unhappy to lose/have taken away/stolen etc.

Count me in.  I bought a used one from Ebay so that I could do the key mod, but tow of my keys have chips, so that project never got off of the ground.

It is in very good condition except for the blade.  The edge was uniformly rounded from the tip to the base almost as if someone had don it on purpose.  After a few minutes with the Sharpmaker the edge was restored with the addition of a small bevel on the flat side of the chisel grind.

I've got a few Micra's, it was the second Leatherman I bought.

A Micra story I shared a few years ago:

I was in a club with a friend one time, and he knew my affinity for knives and tools. It was a 95 degree day, so I was wearing loose shorts, and had left my ST and folder in the car, just carrying my Micra. He asked to use my knife to remove a hang-nail, and when I handed him my Micra he started to laugh at the "tiny little tool" I had. Well, it only took him a couple of minutes of using the scissors and knife blade for him to say: "Man that is really handy, you got an extra one I can have?"

I carry a Micra so often it's easy to forget about it until it's needed.  Still one of the best keyring sized tools out there and has better screwdrivers than any similar sized Leatherman.

given the popularity of the Micra, the popularity of the Squirt P4 and PS4 and the fact they've just come out with the Style PS you'd think they might have at least tried a pliers based Micra.  :-\

But got a 2nd hand one via Swiss Knife and Tool for £9.I'm a victim of peer presure! And glad of it!

Although it needs a clean up,I get the point of the now!

Gave my little bleeder a clean, lube and sharpen this evening, really improved the 'snap' of it!Somehow its managed to replace the SAK Manager on my work keyring for this week!

As a tangent, the SOG Crosscuts do cut better than either the Micra or the Style CS?

Maybe.  Just.  I don't have any accurate measuring devices here, but just going by eye it might work.  The issue I can foresee is that the pliers head is a bit thicker looking, so while I think it would just fit in the space between the other tools when closed, I'm not so sure that it would cram into the end of the handles (where the knurled fasteners go through).

If anyone had a spare pliers head kicking around I'd love to see them try it. :tu:

If anyone had a spare pliers head kicking around I'd love to see them try it. :tu:

I will love to see this mod too !!  :gimme: if someone does it please post some pics here  :multi: and in in the original mod thread too: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,29456.0.html (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,29456.0.html)   :tu:

OK, I got the callipers out at work today and sadly my suspicion was right, the pliers are about 0.5mm thicker than the Micra's scissors. :-\  I'm not saying that this mod couldn't be done, but I think it would need a little tinkering to make it work.

I did and it's very impressive.  I'm not certain the tips are quite robust enough for what I tend to use them for, but that's not to take way from what's an excellent mod. :tu:

My concern with the mod would be how the Micra is designed to have the scissors cross over each other when closed. Might be a difficult limitation to overcome with pliers.

its also posted before in LM Camo OC, but it should be here too :tu:

didnt manage to search properly on the Camo paint if its LM origin finish...may be would get some answer in this Micra OC thread.

got these 3 micras from eby as NTSA confiscate item lot.. saw it, bid on it and surprisingly won with max bid , with normally has no chance to win (works out abt 10.25 per micra).. dunno this is high priced to pay or not as seldom come across it though.
likened the scissors.. all three are tight and almost nick free.. ithink SS ver woul d be bombproof as keyholder..

Well I already posted this, but figure I will post it in the Micra thread as well. It is a Micra Modded by Steve . He also made a kick ass Kydex sheath for it. It has a Awl made out of another Micra blade as well as a Chisel made from a Flathead also form another Micra. I have to say I AM THE ONE that screwed up the finish where the pivot screws are before I sent it to Steve. Doesn't bother me a bit so it's a non issue.

My first ever LM tool that I buy on my own (& my first eBay purchase :D) Arrived today!!!  :mail: :mail: :mail:

I couldn't be happier! It looks brand new!! (I bought it second-hand for $13) It looks ever better than in the pictures- there the one had a few tiny scratches.  :woohoo:

Here are a few pictures of what I got today:

Now, if that's the date of manufacturing, does it mean it's... ONLY ONE YEAR OLD ?! :woohoo: Or is it November 2003? :D:D I mean... may be the US calndar looks was a little bit different.. lol
(http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg95/nikoleta_rangelova/pic2004-3.jpg)

It doesn't close well without an additional pressing.. but now I washed it once... and I think it's better:

One thing: the tools seem to be quite stiff at the "joints", is it sth common with the micra?  They come out easily initially and then, when they almost reach 90 degree angle, it gets stiff.

Is the older Leatherman USA better finish then the newer Leatherman Tool or they are the same?
Title: Re: The Micra owners club
Post by: Gareth on April 17, 2012, 07:38:15 PM
@N_N_R: While the Americans do indeed write their dates somewhat strangely, that does indeed mean it's from last year. :D

Good question about the tools.  My blue one is the same (made in 2009), but with my plain, much older (1996) one it's far less notable.  Now that could simply be that the older one has done far more work and is a bit tired, perhaps it's a slight change in design or simply an acceptable variation in the tension of the pivots.

Anyone else's thoughts would be very much appreciated. :tu:

Guys, please, tell me do I have a problem with my Micra and how to fix it or is this something normal?

It just feels a little "loose". Is there a way to tighten the pivots? When it closes, very often those things don't snap next to each other, but ON each other:

Also, when you push it from one side, it moves on the other back & forward. It's very little, may be it's hardly visible even in the picture, but it does and this bugs me :D

It's going to be hard to find a leatherman that doesn't move like that, it's the nature of their design, and it gets worse as they age and loosen up.  As for looseness, every micra I've owned did what you say when the handles close.  That's why the two tabs are there, to align the tool.

If it really bugs you, send it in to your leatherman rep and have them tighten it.  Odds are they'll do it for free and you will be pleased.

One stainless Micra here.

My preference in scissor-based MT is the Crosscut, but the Micra comes in second. I have a Squirt S4, and just fear scratching up the anodized coating. One of the things I love about both Crosscut and plain Micras is the clean stainless finish.

Ceased to import rather than discontinued I would have said, but the net result is the same; Mirca not readily available in the UK. :(  Now, as we know, LM does have lots of other small tools that include scissors, so it might just be that the Micra hasn't been selling as well as the rest of them.

Corrected!

It may not be the original, nor the best, but it is the standard that all should be measured by!

--the micra is my fav .
it will be on my keychain for a long time.

---ove that the tools are in the inside so dirt and crap doesn't get in there AND so that it doesn't open up a blade in my pocket by accident.

(I've carried a s4 before and didn't have ANY issues of opening up in my pocket, but the micra brings me slightly more piece of mind)

At the scale of the Micra, the inside opening tools don't bother me. It's more annoying to me for full-size tools for some reason.

I also think the regular and flat phillips drivers on the Micra are the best in the industry. I am constantly amazed at how utterly rock-solid both drivers are. I can say for an absolute fact that the Micra will turn phillips screws that will strain the center pin on a Vic Tinker.

The scissors on the Micra are also awesome, better now than the new SOG Crosscut 2.0 (which makes me sad). In fact, I think the only scissors that are really a great improvement are the ones on the Style CS, and only because of improved ergonomics.

I prefer mine in the plain stainless finish. This finish doesn't get all scratched up over time. I have carried them a lot, and they show no wear after years of use. I dig that.

Also, the backspring/lever system used for the springs of the Micra scissor head (and on all following Leatherman keychain models) always strikes me as a piece of engineering genius.

i agree with everything you mentioned here.

my brother and i used our micras recently to pull out some car seats and other misc parts from our old vehicle. the micra screw bits were solid and was nice because of its small form. it made it super easy to reach between cushions and awkward, hard-to-reach areas. the small flat head was useful for prying some plastic paneling off as well.

i dont mind the design without outside accessible tools either, just because i think the nice rounded edges when closed make it really comfortable the hold.

both my brother and i have the SS versions and we think they look classy and "pro" as well. definitely an amazing little pocket tool for all purposes.

I got mine today, which was a pleasant surprise as I didn't think I'd get it until Monday :D  Mine's red, and I really like the way it looks, even though it will eventually get scratched up over time.  I'm liking all the positive reviews the Micra seems to get :)  It looks like it will be a useful little addition to my EDC lineup :tu:

I licra my Micra's.  :D
Micra was the first tool I started carrying back in the 1990's. Awhile back I sent my Micra back to Leatherman to get the scissors tightened and they did not send my original back, so I do not have the original from the 90's.

I carried a SS Crosscut for about 15 years. The fact that their finish never changes is really nice, same with SS Micras.

I'm all for folks getting the colored Micras, if it's to their taste, but that finish will wear off.

I almost bought one of the Micras with the plastic color on the handle. I compared it to the SS version and I felt the thickness out weighed the color factor so I did not get one.
The plastic color Micras must not have gone over to well because I do not see them any more.

Well I got it back from engraving and the place has been renamed feint scratchers!

Its exactly how I wanted it just so weak that its barely noticeable. I'll post a pic tomorrow when I get chance. The guy said its normally fine on Zippo lighters but for some reason its hardly marked the leatherman!

Here's my very used and abused micro that I bought new in 2001.  It used to have the plastic covering on the outside. That's why the pivot screws are sticking out some, that's what held the plastic on then I broke one side so I just tore off the other.  Does anyone know if i can just tighten the screw up flush or are they longer screws?

I myself have never heard of or seen a purple Micra, but I'm no expert.  I've only ever seen the basic colors like red, blue, green, black, gray, pink and SS (most of which you have I think).  Others here may know better than I though.

Thank you stealth007s!  I have a purple/blue in route, a used one.  It may not be pure purple, but at least I don't have one the same shade and it may be the closest I get to finding a purple.

I picked up 2 Micra's yesterday..yellow/black boxed..one red, one stainless. $20 for the pair, on special sale. Originally stickered on boxes at $69.99 ea. Leatherman stuff is damned expensive here Down Under :( I must say after checking them over that I'm impressed with the quality and feel of them. :) Haven't decided yet how I'm going to carry one :)

I just ordered my Micra last night! :D The stainless version. I already have a Squirt PS4 in black but the scissors pivot loosened when I attempted to cut some paracord and now it barely cuts paper, so that's in for warranty.. Last warranty job was to repair the blade pivot as the blade was just flopping around, not the safest thing in my key chain... But hey, they sent me out a brand new one in the box! Can't complain!
Are the Micra scissors any stronger, being the primary tool?

I cut some paracord with the Micra, it's still new and all, and i've made probably about 15 cuts with it on paracord so far, and i see no problems.

Hi all,
I'm thinking about a micra, either for me or as a birthday gift (or both?).

I see the colored versions actually have an additional layer over the steel one, which one is the best? what are the pros and cons of the two versions?

Thanks,
Danilo

The colour layers do add to the size and bulk of the tool. It depends on how much you want red/black/gray/blue/green  :pok:

I had two but I am now down to one since they confiscated one at La Guardia over the concern I might peel grapes during the flight...

I believe the one I still have is marked USA. Do they not do that anymore? If so my other one was probably collectible too.

I read there was a lawsuit and they're not allowed to say Made in USA or stamp USA on their stuff any more since most (all?) of it isn't. Judging from your box maybe you do have a collectible but who knows? I am clearly no expert on it but it seems to me most of the Leatherman pics I see don't have a USA stamp. Hopefully some Leatherman expert will explain this.
Title: Re: The Micra owners club

From my observation, the older stuff from 90's has the USA stamp. I recently gifted a micra to a friend that had it and that was originally purchased in 96 I think.

New guy here!

Been carrying this along with the house keys since 2001.  A pair of scissors definitely goes a long way in the office or the mall.  It also doesn't attract any attention versus a SAK.  The small screwdriver on the cap lifter is somehow the perfect size for the screws on eye glasses.

The Micra ROCKS

Roche wins the award as Most Hardcore Micra Fan, as he has a Micra drawing for his avatar.

I have an old Micra (Patent Pending, at least 10 years old, I think) and I only miss a tweezers on it.

Oh, and the scissor joint is a little loose, despite not too much use, so it has to be squeezed shut in just the right way to cut a thread, for example.

Do the newer ones stay tight better, over the long run?

Welcome, Zephon. I bet that Micro of yours has some stories to tell about how it saved the day. Do tell!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

There's been a good amount of stories about the Micra ever since I got it in Costco in 2001.  They're small stories though -- no different from having an umbrella at the right time.

I remember the first time it came to use was when we needed to move glass door cabinets from San Francisco to Antioch and we needed to unscrew the hinges of the glass doors.  Nobody had a screwdriver that could reach the screws.  The Micra's flathead (on the side of the blade) somehow reached the screws.  It took a while using a small tool at a contorted angle but at least we wouldn't have to worry about glass door rattling around a cabinet tied to the back of a pickup.

In the office, the small flathead (bottle opener tip) is the perfect tool for eyeglass screws.  Somehow, none of the SAK the other guys EDC here would have a flathead that fits those screws.

There are also moments when you're in the mall with the family and XXXX needs to be opened with scissors.  Pulling out a pair of scissors to open up whatever definitely attracts less attention than pulling out a knife -- even if it's a small SAK.  Then again, I believe it's more efficient to use scissors to a) open up a bag of chips or b) clip off the tag from a toy or something the kids or wife just bought and want to use right away.

Here in Manila people look at you bad if they see you pull out a blade of sorts -- even if it's a cheap china $1 nailcutter with a folding blade beside a folding nail file -- or see something clipped to your belt or pocket.  The Micra is not that hot on the eyes or catches attention on the frisk when mixed up with all the keys I carry.

Oh, best of all, it's also perfect for nose hairs :P

Welcome to the forum Zephon. :hatsoff:

I've now got an urge to carry a Micra for a few days. :)

I'm now very glad I did carry my Micra.  Was at the range yesterday and decided I wanted to tweak the weight on my trigger pull.  Not a lot, but just a touch.  Did I have a screwdriver long enough in my shooting bag?  No.  Does the Sidekick have a long screwdriver slim enough to pass through the hole in the trigger guard?  No.  Does the Wave have a long screwdriver?  Again, no.

Wait a second though, what do I have hanging on my keys?  A Micra; with it's larger flat screwdriver being the perfect size and length for the job. 8)

Can the colored translucent plastic covers on some Micra be removed without altering the function of the tool? Has anyone done this before?

Never noticed that because they don't cross that far in use.

They definitely go a little too far in use, at least on mine. The Squirt S4 scissors are more precise in that way, but it doesn't seem to have much of an impact on the Micra's cutting ability.

With this tool collecting with with multi's and SAK's, I still find that the most-used tool for me would be the scissors -- whether at home or at work, whether it be my wife or the kids, someone would need scissors.  Even if I have like a couple SAK and a plier-based tool on me, the Micra would still be the best choice for scissors.

No fumbling on which side it's on.

No tugging on a nail nick.

No digging into plier handles.

Just one smooth circular motion no different from a butterfly knife.

My wife gave a Leatherman MICRA as a Christmas gift almost 20 years ago together with a six pack of Santa's Cokes. Still have the "dusty" six pack and also the tool but the scissors need to be re-sharpened. I remember thinking of opening one of the bottles to try the the bottle opener but decided to go for a bottle of beer instead :)

I've had my Micra for years, and it's THE ONE leatherman that never ever leaves my side. I switch between many plier based tools for different brands, but the Micra is my go-to scissor based platform.

I prefer it over the Squirt, and any of the other MT's scissors.

I became Micra owner last fall (2015).  Introduced to this handy tool by a younger co-worker.  Since, it has saved me countless steps to pick up a small screwdriver for repairing connectors.  The small blade sees as much action as the great scissors...

I have a few Micra's, certainly more than necessary for personal consumption,  but all are loved. Yes, they are TSA rescues. This Blue one 10-99 is a favorite of my Sea Catch, almost inseparable. Other than colors, is there a time line of the different models? My Blue Anodized 02-02, Green Paint 02-00,  Bright Stainless 09-96. Seems the rectangular side notch is an earlier variation.

My Micra was received with a key ring just like my SAKs.
Removed the ring and folded the dangler fitting into the frame.

Here is a Micra that has made a few appearances. I really love this little guy as it was custom made for me. I originally took it apart and could not get it back together. This was years ago when I was a bit green and was not real experienced in the MT modding stuff. Not that I really am now, but I can do basic things with MT's and feel very comfortable disassembling knives. Anyways, the damage to the screws and finish was me not the modder.

He custom made the awl and the chisel. The chisel is a mini version of the swisstool spirit chisel. It works beautifully and I always loved that single tool. He also made the Kydex sheath which is perfect!

Pics. Enjoy.

How's the quality with the micra nowadays, has it changed over the years? I had one in my hands the other day, first time in a very very long time, and it didn't feel like I had remembered.

The squirt definitely felt like a jump in precision/craftsmanship.

It's hard to say.  My two feel different but one is 13 years older than the other and has had a lot more use.

I have one from '97 and one from a few years ago and they are much the same as far as I can tell.

Good. I'm glad. I want to get one. For a small tool my gerber dime is cool, but I don't need to double up pliers with a small tool like that. So I'd prefer scissors on a smaller (keychain) tool.

So I'm looking at either a crosscut or micra, leaning toward the micra. I'm in no hurry, but interested for someday.

Thanks

I agree with Steve....I really can't feel much of a difference, if any.  The Micra feels like old school Leatherman to me...rock solid!

I bought a friend a new Micra for Christmas, and noticed little difference from my 1999 example. Different finish on the handles, but no discernible change in build quality. Micra and MiniChamp still share the throne of best keychain multi, in my opinion.

I need to pick a newerish Micra up and see if the quality is different than the ones I have as they are both older models themselves  :D

The one on me is an 08-05. I like the looks of the mod that adds a blade to the tweezer slot.

I'm in!  Had one of these in the mid-late 90's.  Not sure what happened to it but thought I should give one a try again.  Got this one used.  It's in pretty good shape.  Doesn't appear to be used much but there is some rattle/slop in the scissors pivot.  Also somehow doesn't feel as solid as I remember my old one feeling.  Excited to have it, none the less,  and going to see if it will replace my Vic Classic.

Pics. Enjoy.

how does one sharpen that scissors, BTW? Mine is getting dull!

easy way: cut through sandpaper with 600-1000 grit 20 times, don't forget to fold sandpaper with rough side side outward.

hard way: with a diamond rat trail...

I really ought to consider revisiting the Micra again, though I'm not sure where it would fit in my combos  I have a 30th anniversary one that came with the ST300, but none of the established combos seem to need this addition  :-\

Ouch, I think I might have in some capacity harmed my Micra... I cut a small black tie strap and now its action doesnt feel quite right. It's too dark to capture in pics but there is an obvious deformation in one scissor and it results in some resistance on closing... if that makes sense.

Should I send it into LM and will they cover this?

I've actually had to do that... more than once.  While the blade is a bit big, it was my sharpest at the time, so I wiped the blade of my Buck 110 with alcohol and made a good slice right over the nasty sliver I had... was then able to pluck it out with Micra tweezers.  Hardly bled thanks to a clean cut.  It stung a bit, but not too bad after having tried for 10 minutes (unsuccessfully I might add) to dig out the sliver with tiny tweezers... finger was already hurting from that!

Vic scissors are cool. No qualm with those. But I like the way the bigger handle feels on the micra for the scissor feedback.

Thanks Poncho!  It's a tough little tool for it's size.  Lined up next to my Minichamp, the dimensions are so close to be almost identical.  I used the hook on the fingernail file to pry open a cross threaded pellet can for my son.  Worked like a charm!

Fresh from the 58mm 74mm etc SAK Challenge I got a new Black LM Micra on a Whim.

A Whim is clearly a dangerous and subtle wild animal that can lead you to part you with hard cash unexpectedly. I reckon it must have toxic or hallucinogenic properties for this to be the case. I didn't even realise there was one anywhere near me !

It's a nice Micra though  :like:

I've had a look around and couldn't find any, but I sure would be interested in one myself.  I'm guessing it'll fit a Squirt in it as well.

Poncho's correct, it's not paint but a spray graphite coating. Yes it probably will get scratched but the coating has held up really well on a plier head I used it on so we will see.    ;)

I did it just for fun and to see how it would hold up   :tu:

Mirca's flat philips screwdriver worked unexpectedly well, yesterday. I had to remove the locking mechanism from the drawers of a coworker (not being an a**hole here, they're letting her go) and install it into mine.

At first I was quite suspicious whether Micra was the right tool for the job but she (wow I never had realised that I think of Mircas as female... I wonder what this says about my subconscious  ) did it flawlessly.  :climber:

I love the MIcra, had a Squirt PS 4 on my key ring but I didn't like it so I purchased the Micra and I am very happy that I did, Love the tools on the inside where they are protected from grime, love the big scissors, the tweezers, the micro screwdriver and the overall simplicity, reliability and functionality of the tool.

It certainly has a very loyal user group.  I adjusted the scissor on mine recently as they just wouldn't cut thread.  I was getting annoyed and a few tweaks later and they work fine.  I am not the biggest fan so I wont carry it BUT it has a place on my coffee table, which is reserved for tools I trust and use often enough.

got room for one more?

Just got my Micra, green in color.

Had a question on it though. When I have it collapsed, the scissor head end sticks open a little. It closes once I press it shut. Was just wondering if thats normal? My Squirts dont do it, so might only be a Micra thing.

Thanks.

I'm spinning my wheels again, looking up the latest chatter on scissors based mini tools.  Most of it is quite old since there hasn't been much in the way of new releases... And in the meantime tools like the Squirt P4 are discontinued.

I'm back to using my Micra for the same reason I got it in the first place... Small but precise things at work.

I'm probably asking in the wrong place, but are you fine folks still using your Micra on the regular?

Thanks. It cuts paper ok but nothing else. My SAKs will cut right through bubble wrap and other similar materials, but the Micra won't. The pivot does seem a little sloppy, so I can try the hammer. I have a new little jeweler's hammer I've been looking for an excuse to try out...

The Micra should cut those materials as well :salute: Good luck in getting it sorted out, Jim

Hmmm.... for bubblewrap, I usually use the knife of the Micra. Example is when I’m opening a package. Then again, I don’t need to be that precise when opening up a delivered package.

I was cutting bubble wrap to use to pack a knife in for shipping. Not that I can't do it with a knife blade (I have several hundred knives around here, and many of them have scissors in them), but I was wanting to try out the Micra's scissors to see how they work on tougher materials.

Micra scissors  don't work well on bubble wrap. They do cut most things pretty well but some softer materials get stuck in between the blades. It's hard to beat Vic scissors for stuff like that.

Post by: Jim the Brave on March 08, 2021, 01:22:34 AM
Ok. I gave it a few whacks. It's stil a little floppy, but it cuts cardboard now with relative ease, but not bubble wrap, so I reckon that's all I can ask for. Those SAK scissors sure have me spoiled for what they can cut. I just gave my wife an Evo 14 and the scissors (Wenger legacy) are astounding.

What kind of logic there is for the number inside of Leatherman tools? Last two digits about the manufacture year?
My Micra has number 0100. Is the logic the same over all different Leatherman tool models?

Yes, that date is January 2000.  Leatherman has been putting those date stamps on all (most?) of their tools since 1992 or 1993.

Good looking Micra's. The Blue one has the extra Alu handle, they are my favourites as the extra width makes them more comfortable to use. If you take them apart, you'll notice an extra shoulder on the curdled screws to accommodate the additional width of the tool.

I recently bought a batch of used ones, one green one was similar to the red you have there. The paint just peeled off and exposed a nicely "dull" finish, similar to a Sideclip. I like that!!! Another two may be on their way to me...

I sent two in to get the scissors repaired and got refurbished ones back, you gotto love Leatherman Warranty here in Oz!!! They were a pleasure to deal with, just shy of two weeks from when I posted them 'till I received the refurbished ones. They are already marked for xmas gifts.

Underrated tools, these Micra's.

Cheers, Pete

G'Day,

Some pics of the duller finish in comparison to the standard polished finish. As well as the extra Alu handle compared to the standard one. The green tail one had some green paint / plastic coating on similar to the red one in Echo's pics and display the duller finish once removed.

Photographing these are not to easy with the reflection, excuse the average pics.

Agreed - fantastic picture of the Micra.

Used to have one just like it which travelled the world with me for several years on my key ring without issue.. and then one guy at Manchester airport, UK, insisted it would never have got through any airport security and confiscated it. It was a very sad day for me.

Over the years had various other key ring style tools, but every eventually came back to the Micra. Nothing can beat it for me.

So once again one’s back on my key ring (which I now place in hold luggage when I fly!) and I have a second on order just in case the current one ever breaks. Though I hope Leatherman never retires it.

I'm a member too! Lost my original to airport security in 2013, so I picked this one up last year with some customization added. The PNM are my initials and the 2.0 should be self-explanatory haha

Thank you! I really love this little tool, and it's funny I didn't replace it immediately. Glad to have one again.

Very nice personalization. 👍

I've had this one for 18 years. Got it when I was a sophomore in high school. It has cut countless amounts of fishing line over the years. Used to have a green plastic covered one and a green anodized one, but those have both sprouted legs and walked off at some point.

Every time I see the new font I think I must got one for myself...and then I look at the price and change my mind. :D

Yeah they aren't cheap, but the quality is surely there :) My first Micra was a safety award at work so I guess it didn't hurt too much when I finally had to actually pay for one myself lol!

My first Leatherman is the stainless Micra on the left - 1997.  I am actually surprised I didn't break it or lose it over the years.
