Title: 5 D-cell maglite LED drop-in
Post by: lovenhim on June 27, 2010, 09:16:20 PM
Hello everyone.  I have an old 5 D cell maglite that I would like to put an in-expensive, good value LED drop in module in it.  The light will not be for EDC use, but rather be there when and it you need it for a power outage and for emergency use.  I want a brighter light than stock but do not need a 1000 lumen monster either.  The light is going to sit until needed so I can not see paying $75 for a drop-in.  What size firts the light and what have you tried?

I have the slightly smaller version of this in my 2D maglite:  http://www.terraluxcorp.com/terralux/Products/Portable/Upgrades/TLE6EX/tabid/84/Default.aspx

It'll not turn your light into some kind of photon cannon by anyone's standard, but it's certainly a lot better than the stock bulb.

I'd go with Gareth's suggestion. Not only will it be brighter, the run time will be significantly better and maintain a high brightness level until the cells are almost depleted.

I do see on this forum how this drop in is liked by many and seems to be a good value.  Thanks for the help.
