What a strong season, the first one. Lots of great episodes in there, it is no wonder it remains the favorite of most fans. And considering its age, it's still holding up quite well, for the most part. There are of course signs of days long gone, but still a very solid season, that established what MacGyver means to people.

That's the list I am going by for the names, unless the pictures I take do not match what the list says. I have found some mistakes or missing saks in the list.
I put off making this thread in the past, because that list existed, but checking their forum, they have pictures of very few episodes. I thought I might as well go through the series, take pictures, and post them here, confirming, correcting, and complimenting the list with pictures of every episode, in order, as I go along. Agreed, it might be wasted effort, since the list exists, and the lack of interest in this thread.

I have narrowed down my edc to the Deluxe Tinker. Those pliers are excellent. I'd be in Heaven with an in-line awl, but otherwise I'm set.

And that's Season 3. Many fans say they like the first two the best, but Season 3 is just as good.
Nikki Carpenter, played by Elyssa Davalos, made her debut in this season, and was in a few episodes. Great acting, and an interesting character, a nice addition to the cast.
We also saw Murdoc, arguably the most loved villain. "MACGYVAAAAAAAAAAAH!" :D
Many episodes were just great. Back from the dead, Ghost Ship, Fire & Ice, The Widowmaker, Blow Out, The Negotiator. Great stories, action, supporting cast.
And of course, knives! :climber: The Recruit Economy was the star of this season, but a few others managed to sneak in for a blurry moment of fame.
Undoubtedly a strong season. Two thumbs up. :2tu:

A rather weak start, and several experimental episodes, ranging from children's tv to serial killers. The social commentary could have been handled more elegantly. Even the episodes that do not attempt it are quite uneventful.
We got some good episodes, Deadly Dreams, Cleo Rocks, The Invisible Killer. Quite a few mediocre ones too. Not my favorite season.
At least we got some nice saks, including 111mm models.

There are some small mistakes still on some episodes sak id, for example, on The Eraser he uses a Tourist/Sportsman to fix the ginger ale dispenser, you can clearly see the longer middle liner when the sak is sitting on the counter, only present on 84mm saks. He also uses the small tinker to rig up the car phone.
On Kill Zone, i don't think it's the Supertinker, i think it's the 84mm Salesman from the looks of it. Don't forget tht in the 80's there where a lot more 84mm models available

I am assuming he is using it as a bypass knife. If the keyhole is wide and shallow, it might work. A Wenger awl would have been better.

However i think you shoud review the info on 2x02 - The Eraser.
You say Standard only, but he used 3 more sak's besides the Standard in that Ep...
In the bar scene, fixing the ginger ale dispenser he has a 84mm with a corkscrew, so Tourist or Sportsman, you can tell by the extended middle liner and the next shot with the sak on the table, corkscrew up...
On the office building break in he has a Camper, you can clearly make out on the pic it's 3 layers, and you can also make out the saw in the middle layer.
In the car phone scene it's a small tinker, on the shot previous to that one we get a quick glimpse of the back of the sak when he is taking it off his pocket and there is a phillips on that one, and on the other shots you can make out the extended mid liner, so 84mm.
The Standard in only in the last pics, using the corkscrew... ;)

Thanks, didn't remembered that. But it's rather impossible to identify from that distance, in any of the few shots. It's looks like 3 layers at least, but that's about it...

Yes, perhaps MacGyver used SAK when he wore insulation to crawl on hot pipes.

I'd be interested, too...
Click on Reply rather than using the quick box immediately below.
Then, under the text box where you type, there's a bit that says " + Attachments and other options" - Click on that.
Find the button that says Browse and, in the subsequent pop-up, navigate to where your photo is stored on your PC. Press Ok to prepare it.
Finally, click on Insert Attachment and that should be sorted.
Post the reply and see if it worked! :tu:

I do not know how macgyveronline can say this is the Standard. It's just a blur.
It certainly looks like a two layer knife, and I think I'm getting a flash of corkscrew, but that still isn't enough for positive identification. Also, I'm watching this on a standard definition DVD of a TV series from the 1980s, and no matter how often I shout "enhance" at my computer, the video's not getting any clearer.

Yup... very long...
I was probably 10 or 11 when i got that one in a local drug/hardware store. Still remember one of those bit petrol pumps the man had in the counter, when petrol was sold by the gallon for petrol lamps :D
He had a handful of those SAK knockouts at the store window.
The knife was/is really a piece of crap, in every tool. The blade and scissors grind is a joke.... but it was kind of "cool" for a 10 year old :rofl:

An old fellow came by a place I happened to be in one Sunday morning. I sort of knew who he was. George somebody. Sometimes he had a fixed address. Sometimes maybe not. He gave me a big smile and showed me a small bag full of knives. Chinese one blade candy striped handle folders. One SAK fake. Said he wanted to sell them for a dollar each to go get some coffee.
I said I didn't need a knife, but I would buy him breakfast. He said no I didn't have to do that. Then he said for me to take one since he had known me for so long. I took the Star in Q number to keep from insulting him.
I looked up Star in Q on Ebay and some people are asking big prices for them. Don't fall for that. These things are cheap as they come. Believe me, you won't want one. I don't know what I did with the one I got from Old George. Threw it in on some trade, I think. Approximate value on these things.... about a dollar. Not a bargain at that price. Best wishes. Gary
