Just saw this topic brought up in another thread, and didn't want to hijack it so I'll ask this here. :)
As far as I know, posts can now only be modified for 10 min after the original post. That makes sense of course, but I was wondering about threads where the first post or two gets updated, like say the "Acronym" thread, or the ongoing time-line threads... Is there a way to "beat the system", or is it best to copy/paste/post to keep things up to date?
Thanks for any info. :salute:
-
Moderators can edit posts any time, but things like the acronym thread should be consolidated in new posts or on the Multitool Encyclopedia.

Ahh, yes... I wasn't thinking about the Encyclopedia. That seems like the best place for such things anyway. :tu:

What we really want to know is - Who did what to make you change it? :D
C'mon - you all want to know too :P

(http://i36.tinypic.com/20ucrrt.gif) so spelling mistakes are permanent!
and many times I update things in posts/threads, no more! :-[

Yeh what gives, I have the proofreading skills of a drunkard & I frequently adjust my posts when I have noticed glaring mistakes. Also a admission, as the author/creator of 2 lead balloon posts (some may say more :D)I have exercised my right to, um delete said posts :-[ :D.

Hey I just found the "Member Map" button above. That''s really cool 8)
How long's that been there?
-
At this point you have ten minutes to edit your post, however that's a setting that can be changed. Bear with us as we try to find a good balance that works for everyone.
The Member Map has been there for a couple of weeks now... :D

Apparently Whoey installed it on Nov 19th...

I've used forums before, where you can edit your post up until someone makes a reply. At that point it's "locked". That seems to make sense where you get a lot of "heated debate" on some forums, as people can't deny something they said when called to account. I'm not sure that would be right for here though.
I think the 10 minute rule is fair enough, maybe it should be a bit longer, but I can certainly live with it. I suppose the only pain would be correcting typos in a long review or something, but I'm sure a mod would help if that needed to be done?
-
Probably- Mods around here can be very helpful buggers when they want to be!
We'll fiddle with the timing and other settings until we get something settled.

dunno about you guys, but my firefox has a built in spell checker?
10 minutes sounds reasonable, with the exception of drunk posting, which case you need about 8h to edit your post...
-
I have spell checker, but I still miss spell! ::)
more time would be nice, many times after I post I think about
it and think; "should I have said that?!" :twak:

Whoey is there a "That's a bad idea buddy" add on for Firefox ::) :D
-
yeah but that's not as amusing for the other users...

Friends don't let friends drink and post....
Without laughing their arses off at them later on and reminding them every chance they get! :P

I miss the deleate post tab. I guess I just gave up on my spelling mistakes.
-
:ahhh :ahhh :ahhh I was wondering why the modify button was gone from my older posts :ahhh I go back after a while and check to make sure I typed what I wanted to now I guess it's more permanent :-X :D

10 minutes ?? TEN minutes ?!?
What if I have to pee mid-post?
It takes me 10 minutes sometimes just to hunt down and apply the correct smileys. I think this new "feature" is the bane of the Feeble-typing Large-bellied Rarely-sober Anal [-] Retentive New York Warbler.

I believe it is only 10 minutes AFTER you close it,
but if you leave it open/still working on it you have all the time you need.
-
Oh. My bad. Nevermind.

You are indeed correct.
