I'm due to go wandering around a Scottish forest soon & have been thinking of taking a wood butchering tool with me.
I'm not quite into the top of the range Swedish models yet so have been looking at a few lower priced items.
During internet searching the ones that caught my attention were;
Prandi German Type Hatchet (made in Italy)

Does anyone have any views and/or experience of these?
Would they be any good for forest camping use or would I be wasting my time & money?
Any opinions will be very welcome!

Not handled either of them Dave, but to be honest both look more than capable, so long as you get a good one (some of the cheaper axes need hand picking ;)). I'd pair it with a Bahco Laplander folding saw too. In fact I'd say the folding saw is the more important tool. That Prandi actually looks quite nice.
If you're just wanting a budget axe, and don't mind second hand, I'd suggest having a word with Sparky415 and see if he's got any spares in his bucket of axes that he's prepared to sell ;)

I have a Bacho Laplander as well as a few choices of fixed blade knives & alox SAK's, they would probably be sufficient, I just had a strange urge to take a chopping tool this time.
You never know what you're going to encounter in these strange Scottish forests :ahhh
I decided to go over the border as they're a bit more easy going with wild camping than England or Wales seem to be.
The more I look at it the more I'm liking the look of the Prandi.
I'll have a word with Sparky before I make a final decision. :tu:

I agree with what Al had to say :tu:
The only problem with an axe that I can think of is carrying it with you,
The lighter the axe the less it can do easily (it's early and I'm making this up as I go)
I can help you with a nice bit of rust, we can start with just an axe head that you sharpen and handle yourself all the way up to sharp out the box :salute:

Those Prandi axes do look good, especially with the discounts on price!
The only thing I've ever seen about them before were some videos that wranglerstar did on them, but they were axes he was sent to test and there wasn't a follow up on them.
I do have experience with the Hultafors Agdor axes though hatchet linky (https://www.heinnie.com/hultafors-hatchet)

I have no experience with those hatchets.
Fiskars makes some very capable and affordable axes.
They have a more modern look though.
