Woohooo such generosity from you, guys!
BTW a question: Gonna be out in the mountains till Sunday, so I won't have any phone reception. Can I take the photos while I'm there and post them once I'm back?

Ok tested bit Surge on my keychain and it doesnt work so well, its too heavy and bit akward on keychain so ended testing my lighter mts on keychain, Freestyle, Kick and Rebar and fact is my keychain becomes too heavy to carry comfortly.

I'm no master craftsman but I'm slowly learning by doing. This is the 2.0 version of the T&T keysheath that I made.
Not professional made but still something (tools are new and not used)
Thought it would work as a third prize?

That is very generous of you! And I'm looking forward to this challenge!
I keep a pretty strict keychain, or three to be precise so that won't be much fun.. But I did collect keychains as a kid and inherited my grandpa's collection. Not much for EDC purposes but I might find a nice one or two

Day 1 of 30
I have 3 sets today ::) I always have the regular 2 sets of keys with me for work  the one with the 2 fobs is my security system fob and work truck fob (the set of keys for my work truck stay with it in a garage where I catch my ride) there is a Olight i1R EOS on there along with my house key and I can remove the work truck set of keys and put any one of the other vehicles we have with my security fob, that fob is also my garage door opener :tu: the set with all the smaller keys is for the different locks and some different equipment we have at our work and I have a peanut lighter (bullet shape thing) on there and a pocket worn small ferro rod :tu:
Then the challenge keychain has a bunch of different tools on it and I will introduce them as we go and possibly slim it down some over the course of the month
-
Great selections of tools RF52 and Poncho :like: :tu:

Day 1 for me has me with a green Classic and an Opinel No 4. There's also my P-38. The two knives are attached to a carabiner, which makes them easier to use unattached to the rest of the gear.
-
Good one BR I have a white classic on my keychain :like: :tu:

I've been wanting to try the Classic on a Challenge for quite a while Wim. This should be fun, especially since I just finished a challenge at the extreme other end of the spectrum

Day2
The Washers...
Now a quick glance at the micra on my keychain and anyone can see something isnt right.
My micra started life with the red plastic shell on it. Unfortunately that shell was cracked and broken so I decided to snap it off...this is where the trouble began.
The tool side screws have some sort of a flange so they dont push through (didnt remove one to check but there is no play in them). The ones on the scissor side on the other hand depend on that plastic shell to keep them from pushing side to side.
So I went digging and found 3 bronze and 1 aluminum washers in a coffee can of junk and some blue threadlocker from my gun stuff. A Surge and ST300 did the honors for disassembly and reassembly, while a hex key served as an alignment punch so I didnt have to fight the springs.
The results arent pretty but it works.
One issue is the washers had to be placed on opposing sides so it could close properly. This is why in any pic you will usualy only see one set of washers.
(1st pic is old, 2nd pic is 5min ago)

Needed to cut bandage today, first tried with micra but it failed to cut it so Rambler was used again. Maybe need to send Micra to warranty so they could replace scissors

I have found the micra and style scissors are not very good for handling more than paper :td:
I have second Micra on my FA pack and it cuts easily throught bandages and other soft materials.
Somehow in this Micra scissors are very bad when cutting bandages(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190502/1ff85f5513cba471844a0240af7d066b.jpg)

Didn't end up using the Sebertool today but the month is young  I did take a couple pics of the tools out though :tu: it has a fairly good knife with a chisel grind, a 2 sided file, tweezers, bottle opener/ small flat driver, 3D Phillips driver and a little bit bigger flar driver  everything locks and you press the end of the tool at the pivot to unlock or use the Supertool method of opening another tool part way  A really nice well thought put small little tool but I just never used it enough to keep on carrying it ;) :D

Day 2 of 30
I will see what use I can find for my USA made Sebertool  it was the S4 and is now the IDL T10 made by IDL Tools :tu: I have had this little guy clipped to different sets of keys over the years and use to be my main keychain carry but it has fell to the wayside in some recent years ::) :D

Day 3 and my work keys
I have a card to get through the gates and then combinationlock to most of my lockers. But there are one locker and one padlock that still needs a key and the juice s2 mostly works on loose doorhandles and other small plier jobs. I work at a big plant where multitool are way to small to get any use in the factory areas so this is for the small tasks in civilian parts

As far as I know you can change the tools on your keychain :tu:

Day 4: Small and simple. This is an example of the strange naming that Victorinox sometimes does. This was originally the Wenger Esquire. Then when rebranded it was the Victorinox Executive 81 for a short time (not to be confused with the 74mm model). Now it appears to be the Victorinox "Wenger" where Wenger is the model name. As seen in the stock photo, the scales say Wenger and have the Wenger cross, but the tang stamp says Victorinox.

Poncho, I have one of those giant Chevy key fobs too. They take up way too much space in the pocket IMO, but there is no alternative. If I unlock my Suburban with the key instead of the fob, the alarm goes off. So I have to carry it.
-
That is why I use the S biner :D I keep the fob and keys for my truck that I drive in morning and evening in that truck in the garage at my parents. I get in with my dad, he drives to work and I drive us home in the evening (the fob on it right now is his truck) then I have my good truck and its fob and also my wife's car and the fob I have for it  the other fob on there is the house alarm (cause you know thieves that break into your house when you aren't there >:( ) so I have to many keys and too many fobs :ahhh
:D
-
Day 8: Packing the Rambler today. This is the sweet spot in the 58mm line IMHO. None of the additional tools on the Minichamp really add any benefit to me.
Powernoodle, I agree with you about the keyless key fobs. I actually have two keyring, one with the fob to my car, and the other with the fob to my wife's car. Putting two of them on the same ring is just too much for me.

Just realized that my keys must not have been attached very well to the S biner because after the pic, I picked the keys up and only half of the set was in my hand :ahhh I have to always remember to be careful with S Biners ( I don't like the locking kind because they are a bit more difficult ::) ) as they seem to come unattached with stuff sometimes :ahhh thankfully it is usually in my pocket and I don't lose things this way :D

Day 11
Tried to use Micras scissors today to cut fabric but it failed again, so that was no use. Used Ramblers scissors to cut it and toothpick was also used today.
I am seriously thinking to remove Micra from keychain and send it to warranty repair cause those darn scissors on Micra failed on easy task, scissors can easily cut nails and paper but when stuff is soft then it fails.

I'm assuming that you mean finger nails, otherwise that might explain why they don't cut soft materials. :)

Nice one smiller. I've bought knives with names on them before but never got lucky enough to score one that actually had my own name on it. Somebody who knows me will invariably see the name on the knife and ask, "I thought your name was Alan, so why does your knife have "Steve" on it?" I always tell them Oh, that's the knife's name.
Day 19
Nothing interesting happening today. May spice things up tomorrow and add a black Classic to my keys. Black goes with anything.

Day24
Need to replace my work clipboard. I go through 2 or 3 of these a year.
The clips on these dont hold what I use them for; so I take the feet off and use a rubber bracelet instead. I cut notches to keep it in place, and the hole is for a bead chain that will hold the pen (on my current one)
I use the Bic 4 color for 2 reasons:
1) they are one of the few pens with a ring at the top
2) I get 4 chances to have a working pen.
The Micra was used for all cuts; a vic Trekker's awl started the hole and the Micra cleaned it up.
The pen barrel will be super glued so it doesnt come apart.

Day 25: I said yesterday that I was going to spend the remaining week of the challenge alternating between my top two picks for keychain carry. Yesterday I carried the Vic Rambler. I know you're all breathlessly waiting to hear what the other candidate for my favorite keychain carry might be.

Okay so this screwy idea didnt actually work; mainly cuz the tape I was using was garbage and I ended up having to hold the macv in front of the light. Day29
I have 2 reasons to chear :woohoo:
1) I got the macv cutter to kind of cut tape, somehow, by piercing with the pry tips then using ot as a zipper.
But thats not the BIG reason
:mail:
I got a box from Omaha's Surplus up in FtWorth.
And after some cursing at the macv with the shipping box and some delicate surgery on the vintage inner box with a pair of truma shears (they allready slit it for inspection I just had to finish the job)
I am the proud owner of a solid oak training round for a USN 3in naval gun, headstamped "MK6 50cal" & "1944". Now I just need to find a way to properly display it with the box. I will probably also try to find some vintage photos of them and their crews as well.
Pro tip:
When your wife asks for an artillery shell to display in the living room you dont hesitate...you buy.
Pic 2 note: to give a size refrence, and more to keep it from rolling that is my LM ST300 bieng used

Day 30 - rainy day and guests so my final pic will be kind of boring but this is my favorite setup and perfect compliment to my alox mod. :woohoo:
Thoughts on the tools:
The Shard while having less features than the MacV feels sturdier and mab be harder steel as shows less wear over time.
The MacV has a lot of features that are just adequate in function but what it really does well is looking cool.
The Micra... I really like the micra and find it a very valuable addition to my multi-tool lineup just not on my keys. The scissors do have issue with thin and thready stuff but aside from that every function really works well. It would be nice if my ST300 sheath had a little side pouch for it.
The MiniChamp is a favorite tool of mine. I used to wear one of my necklace all the time but on my keys I'm always worried about losing the tweezer and toothpick.
Congratulations on a really great challenge everybody

I actually am always using my lights, and by always I mean at minimum a dozen times a day. That may be why I dont often highlight my lights but I always have them.
Streamlight Protac2l Gen2 280lumen is my edc
OzarkTrail 3C 500L spot light is in my car for navigation, and checking signage/numbers
Maglight 3D Led...aka "Shining Metal Mace+1" (its just a flashlight, right?)

Same here but with my olight s10r

Can never go wrong having a good flashlight (or Torch :D) on hand!

Of course I carry a light all the time. A really high quality LED EDC tactical torch that uses an 18650 rechargeable battery, and has 5 intensity adjustments up to 1000 lumins, and cost me nearly $100.00 USD. I use it every single day, mostly for when I turn off my bedroom light at the switch by the door and then have to cross the room to my bed without stepping on anything or stubbing my toe.

Watching this unravel... If I personally had to point a finger of blame it would be at LEATHERMAN. As I have spent a fair deal of time online performing various tasks - streaming media - social media - etc, I have gotten attacked with Leatherman ads for all the FREE series crap!
It seems a company's greed has undoubtedly let down a lot of people. But Obi did nothing but offer a nice gift and a fun challenge. Slight lesson learned about offering gifts that are not immediately available but no malice or ill-intentions were ever part of Obi's plan.
We need to move on folks.

And the Lord spake, saying, First shalt
thou consult the Holy Google Random Number Generator.
Then, Google shalt select three, no more,
no less.
Three shalt be the number thou shalt
win, and the number of the wining
shalt be three.
Four shalt thou not win,
nor either count thou two, excepting that
thou then proceed to three.
Five is right out.
Once the number three,
being the third number, hath won, then
lobbest thou thy prize towards thy fellow member, who being
lucky in my sight, shall own it.
Or, in other words, congratulations Barry!

Barry, could you take a picture of the T4 next to something we would all be familiar with, for reference, so we can appreciate the size of it? Another Leatherman or a 91mm SAK for example. I think we would all appreciate that. Thanks
-
Good idea :tu:
-
Absolutely! When I get home tonight, I'll snap a pic of it next to a Vic Ranger, which is almost the same dimensions.

Here's a side by side comparison with a Ranger.
