Look on the inside of the handles; deploy the inner tools and you should see four numbers; the first two numbers indicate the month, while the last two indicate the year the handles were stamped out. :) The handles might've been stamped in different months/years, too, so it just depends. :)

Hi Paul. Yep, you WILL own a Swisstool again ;-) The Wave is good indeed! Got an ST300 coming soon too! My pants are going to be riding low. Tres fashionable I reckon B-)

I personally hate it. It is big and bulky and holds the tool slightly loose in the sheath. The tool can also be removed through the side without even opening the front flap. I just refuse to carry any MT in that sheath. If it works for you than i'm happy but beware your MT is at risk of being lost especially if you carry horizontally.
Here it is.

Definitely will :D I plan on taking some "out of the box" pics, then I'm taking it out on a hike this weekend. Hopefully I can see what kinda damage I can do! Of course I will document this with pictures too.

Well now I have pics to update. I also made a kydex sleeve to keep the wave from falling out of the sheath. I went a little different route as I added a felt lining inside the kydex to protect the wave.

That would be awesome too!!! I'd leave the actual "tool" components the way they are though.
Well I got my pocket clip and lanyard ring. I think it's pretty cool. Now I need a BO wave to compliment my other tools.
Isn't it about time for a new Wave model? The first one went 6 years, this one is now at 7. It's kind of an exciting prospect! The Rebar tool has me all worked up.while I'm normally happy to see an update on a MT, I do think LM have others to look at first. The Juice is 10 years old now and, while I like them just fine, there is definitely room for improvement.

I tend to have a very strong positive/negative reaction on first holding a new MT and, despite giving all my MT's a fair chance, I'm don't often change my mind. The only notable exception would be the Spirit, I was very cool towards it when I first handled one, now it's my favourite MT. Well the Wave gave me a good vibe right from the get go, despite the fact there are a couple of aspects I'm not so keen on, it just feels like a hard working tool. :tu:

Dan
I need one! :)
I have no idea why i dont have one ?
Notice in my last picture the wear on the pliers? Anyone else get rubbing/friction on their pliers when opening and closing?
It doesn't bother me. I'd rather have a tightly secured tool than loose parts.
Little wear doesn't bother me, eventually it'll smooth out anyway.
Btw, does anyone use oil lubricants on the bolt fittings? I want to lubricate mine so my pliers are easily opened. I'm a fan of one-handed opening multi-tool like ny SOG. If so, what oil lubricants would you recommend?
It's probably caused by the tight tolerances LM has and that's not a bad thing!
Are you saving those two? If you don't already have one on your belt you need to open one them bad boys up and enjoy it!!! Lol n
Got my bit kit. how the hell do you get the bits and the wave in the premium sheath together and get it closed?

Why do these Waves not have the thumb cut outs on the blades??? Is this a region thing? If I'm not mistaken those are intended for countries that have laws that don't allow one hand opening knives.

;)
It was the original one actually Gareth. Would one care for me to divulge as to why? :D
I've said it before, I have a love hate relationship with the wave. I just don't like the tiny little detent on the liner lock that holds the blade in the closed position. I have zero faith that it will stay tight beyond even a year of use. Between that and the fact that a Skeletool blade(same concept, different tool) came out while I was using the tool as a screwdriver and you have a bad vibe.
If they would make a serious effort in demonstrating a firm detent system then I would be more apt to buy a wave and EDC it. My blast blade CAN'T come open on my because of the inherent design: the handles are closed with the blade stuck inside them while you are using the drivers. Even if the blast itself becomes loose and the handles start opening too easily, you can tighten them up. Heck, I've even bent the part that engages the plier wedges back with a hammer and a punch to tighten the tool up. I just prefer the simple, effective design of the Blast and it's ilk to the Wave and it's OHO novelty. I carry at least one other blade with me at all times so I don't really need to get at the blade on my MT with lightning speed.
i see it as revenge for dropping it. drop your tool and it will bite you. i trust my wave and if i drop it i will look befor i pick up. thanks for the warning :tu:
I've been edc'ing a wave and a skeletool for acouple years now and I've never had the blades open up on me. I've even dropped them many times and the blades have never moved past the detent, and when the pliers are out on the wave both blades are locked closed.
I don't think OHO is a novelty, on an edc tool i'm not a fan of having to completely unfold the tool, search for the blade, open it, and then close the tool so I can now use my blade. I've edc'd my wave more than any other MT or folder that I own and it's been by far the most useful and the least novelty.
I think the bit driver is a good idea, even if you don't want to carry around bits it still has a phillips and a flat bit that came in the driver, which is just as much as most tools... It would be nice if it had more reach though. I agree the small bit driver is pretty useless, I've only used it once on a pair of glasses.
YMMV
This is just my very personal opinion about one facet of what I still think is a good tool all around, so please take no offense. I see MANY people both here and in my personal life who love the wave and will buy no other. I don't see myself as right or wrong, I just prefer the traditional style MT over the Wave. heck, how many people talk about the Blast? Not many, which means a lot of folks have issues with it not unlike my issue with the wave. A ton of people hate that mini driver but It handles my glasses with ease, I could not do without it.
Point is, as you said, YMMV. And on this forum, we have traveled a TON of miles.
The problem with the wave is, after you wear down that little nib that holds the blade in, you can't just wrench down on the handles to hold it anymore because then you'll have a hell of a time opening the tool.I can't agree with that. From my experience (I've disassembled the Wave about 6 times past few days just for fun, now I'm out of thread locking fluid and the tool tends to unscrew itself with use :D) you can tighten the handle screws that hold external blades and plier head so much that it's impossible to open any blade with one hand and still have no problems opening the pliers. :pok:
What's the blade indent like on the charge? I don't own one and was wondering if it keeps it closed better than the wave?
If you do manage to wear down the little nib then this would be covered by the warranty.
Yea, I've found that if I have the bit extender in, and I'm spinning a screw, that I have to be careful or my thumb will catch a blade hole and pull it out slightly. Almost an "ouch" moment.
@Mercury
I took no offense to it, and I didn't mean any in my post. It's a good forum because everyone can share their opinions. Everyone has different needs for their MT so a tool that might be perfect for some people may not suit another person as well. Also even though a wave is a wave, quality control is never the same on every tool made so my experiences are not going to be the same as everyone's.
I do agree the thumbhole is no spyderhole and I do like to carry a dedicated folder whenever I can. If i'm carrying a folder I don't care if my MT is OHO or not, actually my last 3 tools have all been "traditional" MT's. But when I can't carry a folder or if I don't want to then the wave is my first choice.
I don't have any experience with the blast, I've just never had the opportunity to play with it, i'll keep my eye out for one though. I just bought a ST300 and I love it, it's just a little big for edc Lol.
I know what you mean about the mini-driver, it's kind of a love-hate thing because I've only used it once or twice but when I needed to it was a huge saver. It's just the least used implement on my wave.
As far as the skeletool goes, I like the design, the weight, and all the carry options it has but I don't edc it as much as I thought I would. If I don't care about the weight then I carry a slightly heavier and larger tool for more functionality. And when I do care about the size/weight I find myself just carrying a SAK. That being said I still really love the tool and I think it's a pretty innovative tool.
Hi Gang,Welcome to the forum reezen_60. I can't see an issue with graphite myself, I know I've used it on a Victorinox before with good results. :tu:
My Birthday was Tuesday, i received a new wave from my better half. I guess all my hints
paid off :P so yes please count me in..
I have a question, I know there built to tight tolerances but some of the smaller inner tools such as the small bit driver and large bit driver are a bugger to get out, i have been working them and seem to still be a bit tight, i was wondering if its ok to use Graphite for a lube i use it for locks and it works
wonders.. Thank You in advance
I´m a bit slow I guess. I have had a Gerber that I have been running everyday since 93-94.
This Christmas I bought my Wave that I love.
But one thing is bothering me.
A while a go I ordered the bitextender I was also supposed to get the bitkit but they were out.
Well I wanna try and put the bit from the wave in the extender.Click, nice and easy but man is it stuck !
It took me three days with two pliers and a lot of oil to get it out. I had to try again if i did something wrong and it is stuck again. :twak:
So am I just stupid(probably) or to weak or is there a trick I don´t know about or a law that says don´t put THAT bit in the extender ?
Does anybody know ?
Mine came that way as well, super tight, so i sprayed WD-40 in there i mean i drowned it in the stuff let it sit for a bout half n hour, got my vise grips clamped that bad boy on the bit, n pulled and it popped out then i just got a lil fine grit sand paper and took that black coating off the bit, just enough to get the coating off not really take any metal away, but before i tried putting it back in i sprayed WD-40 in the extender kept the bit in the vice grips and worked it in n out many tymes, then flipped the bit and worked the other end in there like i did on the previous side. Hope it works for ya if not your going to have to heat it up to get it out that should be the last resort...
There's a club? Cool!! My second Leatherman ever was the original Wave, and I've since aquired the new model, too. Two of my all time faves!
Just picked up my wave today! It's my first multitool, and so far I'm very impressed!
Beware, when I got my first, the pliers did not properly there was a space in the area whereere they meet,I learned to hold up the pliers end up to the light and look for any space .

Scored a Original Wave on Ebay tonight. Happy I am.
I'd really like to see a BO sideclip or Crunch.

I got one in the works :)
My entry to the owners club,The 2HO Leatermans was produced for Denmark not Sweden, but very interesting mod.. The original two hands opening Waves are incredible hard to come by here in Denmark..
A Wave 1M (modified)
The story goes:
"These modified Waves were originally destined for Sweden where one-handed opening knives are not allowed. They were lost and found in the warehouse only after the introduction of the new Wave 2. Leatherman extended a great price and installed the opening stud which allowed us to bring these collector edition Waves (only 3700 in the world) to you at great pricing."
(this note was found in the box which)
It was given to me as a gift from my dad about 5years ago and hasn't left my side except for the odd service at the dealer.
I have broken each blade once but sadly the standard blade has been replaced with a new generation blade and the serrated with a second hand version which you see in the picture.
I had the pleasure of meeting Tim Leatherman at the beginning of this year. He hand engraved his signature on the serrated blade and when he saw the studs he commented on my interesting 'home mod' :D

Any chance of a Scan/pic of the note you got with it? :)
Here is the note.Thanks.. :tu: Does the box say two hand or something like that?
Just to clarify, it is a OHO Leatherman. Here is the note.Thanks.. :tu: Does the box say two hand or something like that?

Since there's no hole in the serrated blade it's 2HO designed for the Danish market not Swedish. There's no law against one hand opening in Sweden. Other than that It's an interesting piece and it would be great to hear a bit more background on it..Just to clarify, it is a OHO Leatherman. Here is the note.Thanks.. :tu: Does the box say two hand or something like that?

From the note, I gather that a OHO Leatherman is not legal in Sweden, the shipment was lost then found and shipped to South Africa.
I will post a better pic when I get it back from the service center.
I suspect that person who wrote that note didn't quite remember/check where these had been originally intended for. After-all; Denmark, Sweden, what's the difference? :whistle:BAD Gareth, BAD... :twak: :twak:
Oddly what this reminds me of are the Wave fakes that were all over the place a few years ago, they had a thumb stud rather than a hole as well. Not, I hasten to add, that I am suggesting that this one is a fake in any way.Ohh, the infamous Mammuth Tool: Clicky (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,13689.msg257651.html#msg257651)... :P
Mine is on it's way :D A nice new wave. :D :D :D
I really didn't feel complete without one, after it got stolen...
Nice shots Dunc !
Man, seeing Dunc's shots makes me want an old wave...
My BO New Wave is performing so well though, I can't justify spending what it would take to get an old one!

Although I would be going full circle Sean I have too admit to wanting another old wave, i'm sure I saw a few cheap on U.S ebay.

I have had one as well. They are neat tools.
It's funny though, I used to hate the wave but I got a deal on a charge and forced myself to carry it. The longer I carried it the more I realized that the wave/charge line fits me incredibly well. I love the wave now, more than I ever loved my blast.

It's because they pretty much do it all Sean :tu: i love my Ti and still think the wave is one of the best mt's on the market :tu:

Thanks guys. As far as the rust goes the only leatherman I ever had rust was my original Supertool after 11 days in Hawaii even then it was a tiny speck.
I'd like to join please, I have a 0112/0312 with a modified sheath to suit how I carry it and a zip tied bit kit. Im quite please with it and now want a BO Wave.
One of my Leatherman Waves.
This is an old new Wave.

I am considering membership to the Wave club. I own a beater Leatherman PST, a mint PST and a Juice CS 4.
Why is the original issue Wave considered superior to the "new" model? Is there a particular year of the pre 2004 Wave that is the most sought after?
Thanks

Well, first of all, opinions on that differ.. But some things the old Wave has over the new one are:
- The screwdrivers are considered better by some: A full 3D phillips, instead of the 'half 3D' phillips of the bits. Also they have more reach
- The scissors are found better by most
- It's actually sleeker and lighter than the new one.
Of course, opinions differ, like I said already, I personally like the bit drivers better, plus the inside tools -do- lock, as opposed to the old one. I only have had a new Wave, so I don't know which one I prefer, but I certainly like the fact that everything locks, and I prefer the look of the new blades, too.
Also something not to forget, people may like the old one better for its collectability, as it's a discontinued tool.
Hope this helped :salute:

Good points bmot :tu: You pretty much explained why I want one. I'm not a big fan of the bit drivers myself. My main issue with the Original Wave is the non-locking inside tools, but I can deal with that for a sleeker, lighter version of an excellent MT. I too have the new Wave, and haven't actually handled the original version, but I can tell that I would like it, and I like the dedicated drivers better, although it does seem to go a little overboard on the flatheads ;)

I guess it depends on the individual. Because there is nothing worse then a MT folding and taking a nice divot out of your finger while you are working. For light work non locking is fine, but any real pressure I want locks. My 2 cents

Oh I agree with you on this. I want and prefer locking tools, but I make the exception for the PST, PSTII, Juice KF4 and hopefully someday the Original Wave due to my enjoyment of them. At least the O-Wave has locking blades on the outside. My MTs/SAKs probably get more fiddling time than actual hard use. I don't do lots of serious, hard work with my MTs anyway as that type of thing doesn't come up in my line of work much. So as a result, I don't need locking tools the same way someone who does more handyman/trade work and whatnot would. So as you said, depends on the person ;)

Thanks for the info people. Sincerely
I think if I had a bit driver on my wave I would lose the bits like my SAK toothpicks. I dont think I will be able to find an original Wave locally and the prices online seem too high compared to a new one. Maybe I could snipe one on ebay at 2am
I just bought a Wave a week ago. What a great investment. :tu:
The wave was my first multitool and it is a pretty darn good one ! It has everything I wish for but... I personaly find it way to big for EDC. I prefer the juice C2...
How do you guys wear your wave so it is "wearable" ?

I'm curious. What's the difference between the Charge and Wave? (Other than the aluminum). Is there some special reason?

Here (http://www.leatherman.com/compare/multi-tools/Charge%20TTi). Select the Wave for the tool to compare it to and voilà. I was going to name the differences but I'm too lazy right now.

I've babied it to be honest, still managed to bend the handle for the scissors!
I still can't believe it only cost £44! and that included the tool adapter.

Yeah, I've been out of this club for about a year now too. Sold my Wave and replaced it with an ALX.How do you like the ALX then? Just got one myself :tu:
I've been tempted a few times by great deals offered here in our trade section but I'm holding off till I stumble upon a BO one for $35 or less. :P I have time. ;)

every now and then, the safety pin for PE blade would not disengage, preventing me from deploying the blade. It would be fix after I open / close priers 20+ times, but it will happen again in time. Oiling it won't help.Am I the only one has this problem? Sent LM a email asking about this, let's see.
I like to dig into this issue before I send it back for replacement.

Question for those BO owners, how do you remove rough edges on BO MT without messing up the look?I would've thought any smoothing will remove the black finish :(

I don't see how it's possible to remove metal (the rough edge) without removing the coating ON the metal.
Right :tu: :)
but the SS Wave was very rough and sadly was the very first thing I noticedYes, the SS was very rough on people. ;)

I decided to give my Wave some pocket time for the last week and a bit since I got off to a bad start with it (didn't like it and had some quality issues).
I never seem to like a new Leatherman when I first get it, then it grows on me after I've used it for a while. Same thing happened with my Wingman.
I'm loving it now. Especially now that I have the new bit kit and can use standard screwdriver bits in it with the extension.

After a temporary affair with the Surge, I'm back in love with my Wave thanks to an organ-donor Rebar.I'm so jealous. Very nice! What did you use to disassemble the Rebar?

Thanks Roc. I used my Crunch and Surge to unscrew the proprietary binder posts. Preheating with a torch to melt the red loctite is essential! The awl required grinding the nail nick edge to fit flush when closed in the handle, and required grinding the curved part to allow the handles to fully close.
I've been rocking my wave lately and noticed online you can purchase a Damascus blade for your wave. Price runs about $55, not bad if it's the same blade as what's in the limited edition model and not a copy/3rd party thing. I have paid for knives costing more than that and would get one for my wave no questions asked.

I just got a BO Wave the other day so sign me up to this club!
I do have 1 question... Actually 2.
How do you guys carry your Wave?
Are the pocket clips any good?
Although I have a couple of sheaths, but I pretty much only use them for storage purposes since I don't often wear a belt. I'm looking at getting a pocket clip for mine, I hate having to fish around for it in the bottom of my pocket.

I carry my Charge TTi with the pocket clip, and it's fine. The Wave rides a little better/lower with the clip due to its slightly thinner size.

First day of carry but liking it so far. OH knives are great, the diamond file is just lovely and the pocket clip is very handy. Not convinced by the scissors yet but they seem good enough. I reckon the small bit driver will have to go though, what a waste of space.
Now that's a familiar picture. Glad it arrived safe.

The Wave looks great in BO nice tools guys.I know, it really does look great on BO... now that I have the SS though... I gotta decide which one I'll carry tomorrow... ;-)
Just stopping by to show some Wave love. I'm not entirely sure how many I've had at one time . I think I have 4-5 now. These are my users tho mostly my BO gets the most carry time.Bling, bling, BO!

Can you Wave BO folks show us some pictures of tool open? The pliers do scratch up a bit, but I find no worse than the SS ones... It's only a little more noticeable with the black...
I'm curious how plier bases look, are they all scratched up or decent still?
Thank you.

Yes the Green (mini)Paracord wrapped around the knife deployment hole really helps for quick opening. I also put orange on the Serrated blade. And it's super duper cheap
I'm not a fan of "thumb holes" on any tool or knife........

I'd like to join as well, cheers from Ukraine :cheers:Nice score, a first Gen Wave!
My philosophy with my Waves is very similar to my philosophy with my jeans:
I have work jeans and go to town jeans. I don't wear my go to town jeans to work and I certainly don't wear my work jeans to town.
The same is true of my Waves! I have a work Wave (nice and battered) and my out and about Wave. Both ride in sheaths on my belt every day

I recommend the bit kit to go with your new wave and bit extender! It makes for a very capable Multitool! :tu:
My Wave bought in February 2004, still good as new. I can't bring myself to purchase the new Wave as yet LOL.
Im part of the wave club and carried one for the last 2 years.. however mine is a little modded, rebar plierhead with the s30v blade from a charge and the serrated&hook from a charge too :)Does your wave close all the way? I tried a ground down rebar pliers I my wave and it still wouldn't close completely due to the scissors.

Heres my closed wave with rebar plier geads and scissors - as you can see it closes.. I have no idea how or why.. it just does..It still have the scissors? Unmodified scissors?

Hey buddy, a drop of 3-in-1 is always good. :tu:
It may be #5, but I'm not totally sure  I'm sure someone knows.
Anyone know the Security Torx bit size for the original wave. The smallest I got is #10 and it's too big.
They may be size TS10?

Glad that was helpful, and good luck tracking them down :)They may be size TS10?
Sent from my XT901 using Tapatalk
Thanks Monrogue. What I got is the commonly available 6 spline security torx bit which I believe is called TR10 and fits the new Wave. The older Wave needs the 5 spline security torx bit you mentioned, the TS10 which is harder to find. Your reply put me on the right track to find the answer.
Three times this week I've been outbid in the final 10s of eBay auctions for an original Wave. Three times! I am a member of the Wave almost-owners club. :(

So I just ordered up a Wave on FeeBay. $54 shipped, for a new 2015 one. Is that a good deal? I felt like it was, after seeing that Lowes wants $90 for them.
Yeah, those sniper bids. I think I am getting good at it. I use my phone, set an alarm with 2 mins to go if I really want it, set my max I am willing to pay and then with 5 seconds to go press, kneel and pray.
I added a Wave to my growing collection. They had a 'kit' offered at Dick's Sporting Goods and I went for it at $89.95 with the double bit set and nylon sheath with flashlight pockets. Turned out they only had one in stock and the P3 Lenser flashlight was missing so the guy at the counter offered to take $10 off and I told him it needed to be $20 so I could buy the P3 light....He agreed :D so I'm in with the kit in stainless for $69.95US. I picked up the P3 light on Amazon and added the bit driver as well.
That set me off on a kick of buying the Squirt PS4 and the Juice CS4....it's a sickness...Now am waiting for my Maxpedition Fatty to come with UPS today.
I can't believe my luck, got the following beauty off eBay for $36 shipped, with pristine leather sheath. The tool looks unused. Great condition. Given the low closing price I was expecting some horrible defect, but man, this was a steal; I can't believe my luck. :D

Eyeglass screwdrivers are useful, but it just seems to take up so much (precious) space on the Wave for such a small item.
Has anyone seen mods where it is swapped for something else?
In my short time here, this is the only mod I've seen someone remove the mini driver. http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,59081.0.html I would take a shorter flat driver if that means I can get an awl.

Check out the hacked leatherman club for many more examples. Also you can just make a shorter awl and keep the flat driver length.
Finally stuck the Rebar plier head onto my Wave. Doing a cable cut test (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,60344.msg1113037.html#msg1113037) convinced me that my modded Wave (+ Wingman scissors, small flat driver and awl) was superior to the Rebar for in almost every way - except for the cable cutters. Only had to modify the locking pin for the blade, shorten the small flat driver and clean up the back of the awl to make it fit.

Do you know which one? I did a quick seach through the thread and didn't see any. I'll keep looking. Do you think the awl from the signal will be short enough to replace the mini driver?
Edit: looks like reply #345 is a custom awl job

To replace mini driver with awl, you can get another can opener, grind it down to a pointy sharp awl, but leave the hook untouch (ask me how I learn), it will be short, but a functional awl.
Very nice :tu: do you have one in your wave or is that an experiment part?
I just put it in, it works, need to add another washer, to access the awl, I need to pull out the scissors first.Very nice :tu: do you have one in your wave or is that an experiment part?
I got a Black Wave today to go with my stainless one.

I checked the tracking and it said it was delivered on Friday. It definitely was not delivered to me so someone else must of gotten it delivered to them as the post man scans the package once delivered.
I just got one today. I had one years ago, and recently wanted to get another. The pliers have a more aggressive cut compared to my other tools that have the same head(low quality cell phone pic attached). I'm happy to have this one back in the collection.
Hey Justin, nice holders but
- is it made from Alu or Plastic
- no pics from the backside
- no pics with a tool inside
- shipping to Europe?
But cool locking holders, reminds me on the one that Adam Savage did.
I just picked up unused wave with the new style plier teeth. It does seem to open/close easier. Looks brand new for $30 at a Pawn Shop. There is no date code. Did LM stop coding, or did they move it somewhere else?
Is it made from Alu or Plastic?Steel, I believe. Either galvanized or stainless...
Didn't like the rebar pliers so just fitted a blast pliers head.

Nice Wave. Is this SS or BO  Looks like its tumbled or stone/acid washed. My eyes are going fast or I need a new monitor
Welcome to the forum and the Wave OC +1
Great pics as well :tu:
Looking at my original Wave today... The date stamps in the handles are a bit confusing to me. One is dated 0701 (the scissors side...) and the other 0602A.
Any idea why the dates are so far apart and why the "A"?
By the way, snagged myself a BO Wave, new, yesterday for $65!!!

If there was one feature I;d change on my Wave 2.0 would be to remove the never used flat screwdriver blade and replace it with an awl /w thread loop.
Don't have the tools to modify the flat screwdriver blade into a make-shift awl w/ thread loop or I would of long ago.
Anyone know where to get such and awl blade to fit into a Wave?

I picked up a Wave dated 1004 both handles and noticed Pat Pend by the lock. The LM Wave stamp is a little smaller as well. The other wave in the pic is dated 0905 and 1005. Just thought it was neat.
I dont know the password to join the club, so will an ol Wave get me in? :D

I have both the original model and a new version. There are a lot of things I like about both, but I prefer the original mostly for the scissors. I do really like the changeable bits of the new one, though.
I noticed the same thing recently. Some one had asked about size of torx and if 5 or 6 star. I stated all new waves were 6 star, but quickly found out I was wrong!

I think it is on here somewhere  I am not sure where though but I think it was figured out pretty close when the change was  Been years ago and I even bought some 5 point drivers to work on my new Wave which is an 07 maybe ??? I will have to check but I remember Bob or Dunc talking about it way back when :D
I had some stuff out so I thought I would go ahead and take a pic of my Wave with all the stuff I have with it in the sheath

Love that sheath Poncho :tu:
That is what came with mine as well :tu: The brown leather one that is pictured above is meant for some of the bigger LM knives :cheers:Mine actually came with a black MOLLE sheath similar to this...
I like the color contrast in the Wave :o :cheers:Thanks Poncho.

Does any of your Wave's Inner Tools has Play? The scissors and eyeglass screwdriver on mine has Play out of the box(new).Which direction is that? If it is a up and down play just try to tighten up the security torx holding them. If it is a turning play, I think you may have yo get over it if it is not too serious. It is by design somehow. The notch on the back of your tool is slightly larger than the hook of the lock and produces the play. But if the notch is too tight, you will have difficulties disengaging the tools. If it is not too much play there which doesn't affect your normal usage, just try to get over it.
All the outer tools/blades has Solid Locking, No Blade Play at all. Thanks.

The "play" is when moving towards and away of the lock. Over machined lock notch of the said tools?I checked with my Surge and found some little play as well. Yes, I think so and I think if it isn't a lot and won't bother u from normal use, you can try to get over it. If it really bugs you take it back and get another one.

Hey fellas. This was damaged cutting some heavy gauge wire. Do you think warranty will cover it? Or is it too minor to bother? It has somewhat affected wire-cutting performance :S

Try lightly sanding the burr (bump) off the inside. Two minute job. Not worth sending in IMO.

Since getting my hand tools stolen my wave has been invaluable> Few days left at work and it has been worth its weight in gold!
Opened boxes, broke boxes down, tighten screws, dealt with screws on battery covers, cut wires,
Hopefully I'll be starting a new job in a gym soon so may invest in the bit kit for the allen and torx bits

PROUD member here. I have owned and used a wave (not exclusively of course) since the new ones released in 2004.What are the other differences between new and old? I see old being sought after, but new would hopefully have the improvements. What gives :D
It's an interesting tool compared to others, when you consider that it's basically remained un-changed and a best-seller for some 12 years, other than some minute-yet-significant improvements. (such as the thicker in-handle plier rest introduced around 8 or so years ago...

what your describing could have been a defect? If you didn't want to send it in, I understand. You could just do a plier swap for maybe a Rebar with replaceable cutters. Escpexially if you want to keep your tool. :tu:Beautiful pic kaput :like: :like:Thanks man!

Just a basic soft steel pin cutting, but I guess 420hc isnt much stronger. :)
I wont send tools in warranty when I have broke them myself, only those that are defect from the start (like Raptor and Skeletool from Leatherman). Kinda attached to this one already. My older Wave actually broke when I was opening an M5 nut, that kinda pissed me off 'bout year ago 'cause it should have been able to do that. Still my goto tool this Wave, so useful. :)

I resolved my question.Yes, it's different for a friend's 0105 versus my 0117. (It's interesting to see the other small changes too.)
On my Wingman, I noticed a 4 digit stamp on the inside wall of the handle.
So, I examined my new Wave, and sure enough the date code is on the inside wall on each handle of my new to me Wave. 0716 and 0816.
The code is present, just in a different location than my 04 model.
Mystery solved for me.

Hope I'm putting this in the right place, but, here be my Wave. I originally had a PST, that my father got me for Christmas in like 2002 or something, and I really liked it, with its only big annoyance being that in plier form, the handles really dug in to your hands. To my great sadness, I lost it around the time I moved out for college, so after an appropriate grief period, I started looking at replacing it, and settled on the Wave.
I went to this mall's tool & camping section and asked for one, and they said they're all out of the standard one, but he had the 25th anniversary model for 20€ more. Being on a student budget, my rational mind said to pass it up, but it was quickly stomped to death by the WANT!! part of my mind, so I got it. Came with the collector's edition tin and all. Will have to post a photo of that later.

The straight blade has seen better days. Like an idiot, a few years back I tried to pry something with it and the tip snapped off. I lacked the skill or tools to re-profile it, so I gave it to someone who did, and he did make it sharp as hell, but to him, aesthetics is a non-issue in tools, hence the scratches. Functionally, there's nothing wrong with it. Some day, I'll send it to the importer for them to replace the blade, because it's shockingly difficult to find them as replacement parts to swap yourself.
Aside from the main blade, the only part that's been damaged, is the eye-glass driver bit. The flat end of it got chipped years and years ago. To return the original favor, I bought my father a standard Wave for Christmas a few years ago, but he felt he won't have as much use for the eye-glass bit, so we swapped. Discounting that, and the wear on the standard bit coating, it's still like new. I even like the scissors, which you might say are the weakest part of the tool.
I suppose most people would just keep the anniversary edition in a collection, but I put mine to use then, and it's been in use almost daily since then for about 8 years now. It keeps its shine remarkably well. The included sheath is still intact, but the velcro is completely spent, which I why I got the Skinth, which WoodsDuck pointed out to me. :multi:

Not sure about the ability to drop in newer blades.
But sure does make sense to have an awl rather than three flat drivers! :like:
I always knew I would get a Wave. I discovered LMs when I got my father a new Juice S2 for his birthday in April 2017, then I got myself one, and a second-hand Juice Pro and Squirt PS4 (from the sales here), and a battered up S4 from US E-bay (postage costs as much as the item when I buy from the US >:( ). Now I have a Wave picked up in the UK from Shpock (second hand sales site). Cost me £37 including postage and PayPal fees (about US$48).

I gave it a quick clean in warm soapy water --- a lot of gunk and grime came out, especially from the saw slot.
(http://i.imgur.com/VHF4n2k.jpg) (http://imgur.com/VHF4n2k)
The serrated blade had flecks of metal on it --- looks like it may have been used to cut some thin wires? There's a little bit of rusting on that blade.
(http://i.imgur.com/vOUs011.jpg?1) (http://imgur.com/vOUs011)
I'd not seen a LM Wave plain blade up close before, and I initially thought someone had tried to sharpen the top, Bowie style.

The pliers are not tight and have a tiny bit of wobble in them, not much to worry about, but just enough slack so that the handles do not come together straight unless I give them a little squeeze and then all is fine. :tu:
(http://i.imgur.com/eJDUqAb.jpg?1) (http://imgur.com/eJDUqAb)
There's some rusting on the pliers. The flat head and scissors open nicely, the flat heads look unused, and the scissors are good and sharp. The large flat head in the other handle is clean and sharp but a bit tight to open, and the philips head and can opener are very tightly held together --- I can get them apart, but it needs a bit of effort and my Squirt PS4.
I've given all parts a liberal spraying with WD40 and will let that soak in for a while. Then I'll go to work cleaning it up some more. All in all, I'm happy with this Wave. Blades lock nicely, tools show no or small use. The bits of rusting will probably polish off. I think this will replace my Juice Pro. I was wondering about getting some TS10 pentalobe bits to dis-assemble and do some deep cleaning, and even add in two New Wave bit holders I have, but I'm not sure about that now, since it's a nice tool and I'm not sure I want to mess it up.
(http://i.imgur.com/iO7NDmP.jpg?1) (http://imgur.com/iO7NDmP)
This is an 0401 Wave (both handles), so although I now have a Wave, I still don't have a (New) Wave! ;)

The blades I can now crack open with one hand, just about. The oiling has made the philips and can opener side much easier to open. There's still some brown residue coming out around the joints, so I'm going to have toYep keep squirting penetrating oil until the brown stops coming out  It is very easy to take apart the handle ends compared to the pliers, so if the screwdrivers, scissors, or bottlecap opener are too tight, you can easily readjust the tension.playwork with it some more. :)
I doubt I will take it apart now. It's so nicely put together. I notice the second largest flat head just about fits the hex bit extender that I use on my philips on the Juice S2. This Wave philips does not seem to be a fit for the bit extender.

In that case go to the Shapeways site and order one for around 28 bucks IIRC, unless you can still find somewhere that sells the entire kit. For the Shapeways item (rough print) you'll also need four M3×6mm grub screws with 1.5 mm Allen key holes, and M3×0.5 thread taps and some small metal files and an Allen key 1.5 mm. First time poster, and this feels like a question that would have been answered but I've tried searching, to no avail. I've got a recently purchased Wave (two, in fact) which have the same issue; the safety pin what keeps the plain blade from opening when the pliers are in use has a tendency to keep the blade from be used when the tool is in the fully closed position (read: when I should be able use use the knife). Common problem? Fixable by the end user, or just treat it as a warranty item?

Friend of mine found a LM in the middle of the road - said he was driving and spotted something out of the corner of his eye, stopped the car and waited as several other cars drove over whatever he had seen.It was probably the mini driver he saw.
It was a Wave and was in excellent working condition despite the battering it received!
That was destined for that Mini Driver thread but thought I had better spread the love around...Friend of mine found a LM in the middle of the road - said he was driving and spotted something out of the corner of his eye, stopped the car and waited as several other cars drove over whatever he had seen.It was probably the mini driver he saw.

There are great cars. My first car was a 35 year anniversary mini. We went camping in it all over the country - it was briiliant. Too small once our daughter was born though. Would love to get another one someday.None worth showing. It wasn't a woody one - was about '73 0r '74. I bought it for parts for my van. It was painted in what looked like roof paint.
Any pics of your Traveller?
Off a Clown? :D I'm surprised it didn't fall apart completely as soon as you drove it home. :rofl:The funny thing was he used the money to buy a pair of shoes.

Thanks Kevin :salute: I think it is keracote  and I just got it from Nix like a week or so ago  Plus it hasn't seen much use by me and as many tools as I cycle through it won't see an extreme amount of use either :D ;)
I was reunited with my wave this afternoon. It had been missing, and I thought I had lent it to someone. Turns out I left it in a coat pocket and haven't worn the coat in quite some time. Guess the Skeletool will get a break so I can enjoy the Wave for a while.

Did you pick a new Wave before the “+” models take over?
A Farm store near me have every day for $74 w/Leather type sheath. Been thinking of getting another 2nd gen style.
Is that a rock your Wave is laying on? Just curious!

I studied that picture for several minutes, the ice threw me, still great picture.
In the picture it's sitting on ice over asphalt
Hi guys.I’d love to give it a go and figure out myself if it suits me. And I guess it definitely would. And maybe I’d replace the eyeglass screwdriver with an awl
What are y'all think about the + ?
My opinion is, it is good they've added the replacable wire cutters. but fans also asks for awl rather than the medium screwdriver, and LM doesn't provided it

Only Tools Matters
If u have access to grinder, I suggest u reshape other tools. Try to find a ok-ish rebar. They are rather affordable. The smaller flathead thickness should fit in fine I think. Re-profiled it to your preferred shape for for an awl.
This is the layout on my WaveHmm good layout bit maybe that combination doesnt serve very well on my needs, i need all four outside tool daily, scissor are used sometimes like every other tool except small bitdriver.
(http://i.imgur.com/NV1IA4p.jpg?1) (https://imgur.com/NV1IA4p)
You'd need to pull off the pliers head rest from inside the body for the PH to fit, but width-wise, this combination works.
The recently acquired Wave + and two Frankenstein Waves I bought from TTC last year. In term of fit and finish, this Wave + is as perfect as a new-gen Wave can be. No tool rubbing or adjustment is needed. Most of the new-gen Wave I bought had the pliers pivot a bit tighter than I like.
The 2 freakish Waves were impulse purchases. I got some botched gold plating, CC pliers heads, S30V blades, crazy color scheme... what not to love? For sure, my Waves conduct electricity better than your plain factory Waves :D.

Thanks guys, appreciate the welcome! That was it, the Charge, not the Surge. I guess my big question is, since the Wave + and the Charge + are almost identical, if you think it’s worth it to get both? I mean, if I managed to snag an S30V blade for my Wave+, then I’d basically have a Charge, correct?
(Although I do read that some folks think the Charge has more comfortable handles than the Wave. (?))
Bottom line, I guess I COULD justify one for each car, one for my go bag, one as an EDC... . Lots of neat models, and so far I’ve just been looking at Leatherman.

Personally, I find that the wave is more comfortable in hand when in pliers mode. While using the external tools, probably a charge feels nice with lesser edges/hotpots though a wave is not really that bad either( nick picking if u ask me.) but of course the standard MTO way is to get both. And Welcome!!

I think I’ll probably do just that, but would like to see if I can also upgrade the 420 blade on the Wave. I’m happy with it, but want it to be the best it can be, and a 154CM blade would be perfect.
FYI, I really liked the limited edition Wave+ I saw on Amazon that was two-tone, but heard some say the black can have long term finish issues and start looking scratched up so kept it simple.
But I’d like to get the Charge TTi + down the road, that’s a nice looking tool.

Get a Charge TTi+ and spare Wave+ handles then switch everything ! Wave handles are much more confortable to use, in my humble opinion.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/303021522639
Then you should be able to sell the Charge handles ;-) This way you'll have a nice, upgraded Wave+ S30V gut-hook for far less than buying the upgrades blades separatly.
I dont have any of the titanium models but I find that the AL models to be about the same as the Wave handles in terms of comfort
Also in regards to the BO finish, there isn't a problem with the finish ;) the wear and scratches add character and don't affect the usage at all
But get as many models as you can and you can decide for yourself
:D

We don't have a "deal of the day" thread here for blems, but I can assure you that Leatherman and Multitools can be as addictive as M43s and Ang Kholas, if not more!! :D

Hey y'all. First post. I've owned many multitools, mostly Leathermans, but a couple of Gerbers, and most provided by Uncle Sugar. My favorite by far was a LM Wave a friend found and gave to me. Someone apparently needed it more than me, so I'm saving my nickles for a replacement, as it's kind of a luxury item for me right now. In the meantime, I'm just hanging out checking out potential mods.Welcome to MT.o, Rob! :tu:

It actually had you take it apart in the directions ??? This clip is just meant to be put in without modification or dismantling at all  I just push the lock tab on mine and slide it into the empty spot on it for the clip and the lanyard ring
EDIT: Read it wrong  I thought you said you had directions :ahhh
Just push the lock and it comes back off :salute: and will go right back on as well
I thought you removed the slide up lanyard ring
so you can clip the pocket clip on both sides of the handle

So not yet convinced of the Wave pocket clip carry. It fits in the 5th pocket of my jeans, but it’s still quite a bulky carry. I guess it’s not fair to compare to my Side Clip? :think:Hehe. Nothing compares to the SideClip. :D
Love that pic :tu:
As some of you know i aquired few days ago this Wave what was dropped on campfire it suffered bit of damage, i first thought to send it warranty but warranty told me that they wont repair it and i should buy new one.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190309/1b8b95bcec743a234cc166025c3bbfb8.jpg)
Well i first thought i should just scrap it but i didnt, i cleaned it, scraped worst places and bended bit spring so outside blades would lock again. Now that Wave works again like charm, it doesnt look so awesome as orginal BO Wave but it works like new now, just need to oil it and its ready to work again(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190309/32ff34acec7ecd06c27a7ad6214fefd8.jpg)

Thanks everybody. She truly deserves a glamor shoot, after all I’ve put her through.
I just happened to have my Wave on my belt at work today, while doing some Leatherman research. I’m trying to decide on a definitive method of carry for my Wave. It usually sits in my pack when hiking, but it’s a bit inconvenient. I use the Wave a lot, and would prefer not to have to take off my pack to get to it. So I figure that I have a few choices. Leave it in my pack, mount a sheath to the pack’s shoulder strap, carry it in a fanny pack, clip it to my pocket, or sheath it to my belt. Actually, that’s quite a few choices.
The pocket clip carry I’d be happy to use around camp, but not while traveling. When I’m wearing hiking shorts, clip carry just feels too heavy while walking mile after mile.
Sheath carry is a maybe. I love the Dale Park Station leather pancake sheath for my Buck 110, but I’m saddened by the fact hat they no longer produce sheaths. So I’m trying an old Charge nylon sheath today, with the two little elastic accessory slots in the side, to see how it feels. Does anybody have an idea of how these pouches hold up to extensive use? The slot that the belt slides through doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.
Shoulder strap carry is maybe the best option. I just need to sew on some extra webbing to my shoulder straps, and find a good mag pouch that fits the Wave well.
Shoulder strap could be a good hike option as you can add other things to the webbing, etc.
The new nylon sheaths have a snap closure, so won’t have the Velcro wear issues.
Personally, can’t go wrong with the leather sheath. :like:
I ordered up a couple of sheaths yesterday. One is a Maxpedition mag pouch for the shoulder strap. The other is a leather horizontal sheath from Nay’s Custom Leather.

What sheath did you order Buzz ?
Very nice sheath Bb the quality looks great :like: :tu:
I'm very happy with it. If I were to nitpick, I would have preferred that the inside of the snap be covered with leather. I actually would have insisted on it being covered, it this were for a traditional knife. But for a multitool, it's really not an issue at all.

I’ve found this works for me: First remove all oil and dirt to get back to a ‘metal-on-metal’ contact environment at the pivot. This is best done via a long soaking in water and strong detergent, with repeated opening/closing and flushing. Once dry, use the pivot stiffness to build friction at the pivot by repeated opening/closing. You want to feel some heat at the pivot, as this shows the friction is building up and the metal is bedding in. The pivot may even get stiffer as the pivot heats up and builds up some metal grindings. Once it’s apparent the friction has helped a little, only then add a light oil and this will draw out the filings (dark gunky oil). You may need to repeat everything again. It’s a slow process, but I’ve found this works for me... :salute:Thanks Max Stone. At least it has finally gotten to the point of the handles not folding when I try to open the pliers. I also think I misstated how long I've had the tool (darn grey matter ossifying) I believe I've had it since 2013, so that means 6 years.
That will be a plan ultrasonic cleaning is phenomenally effective at dislodging hidden gunk :tu:Oh boy, so much stuff came out! 5 cycles in the ultrasonic and it finally stopped leaching out gray water. Now, to dry and fold and unfold. I don't think it was this clean when I first got it!
Epic clean countrydirt. Looking forward to hearing how it goes! :like: :popcorn:The pliers are incrementally better, so I'll just keep using them.

My first Wave has a similar birthday as well. I would have to check to be sure though ;) Not to bad looking for a 12 year old tool :tu: :like:It hasn’t had much use either. I’d weigh on the conservative side it spent almost half its life in a drawer. It’s big brother OG Wave got more use at home. Which is MIA hasn’t been located since I moved. I really miss those scissors.
Stroopwafels   :drool:Exactly!!
nitram here on the forums offered me a Wave+ (transitional date code from 2018 + old logo box)
I agreed on his offer, but he went a bit mad on adding things as extras... :ahhh
Arrived today!

Way to go Nitram and Mechanickal
Thanks!
Incidentally, this was the last of my “modern” LM’s. I’m expecting a Free P2 back from warranty, we’ll see what happens with that after some consideration.
This precious arrived yesterday to me

I tried look inside handles and it seems this is 2004.

Thanks BC :hatsoff:Hahaha, stroopwafels and a P2? :woohoo:
I see a P2 joining my stable soon too :pok:
On the condition that the pliers head isn't mashed to gum :D
I’m interested in the return of your P2. As I recall, you sent it for the tightness in the pliers, yes? I have a similar experience with my P2 and if they fix it v replacing them- I might do the same. That’s right. I assume it’ll be replaced, not fixed, that’s how they usually do it here. I’ll let you know.
Made the Wave a nice comfy bed for its trip to Oregon. Should have taken a pic
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
As cozy as the snow blanket bed for that pooch?Might be more comfortable. I wrapped and padded the Wave and mailer with plush towels I had in the back seat!
I like you pic Wim.

Ope! my wave is repaired and en route! :tu:Nice one BClogic  :like:
Looking brand new again :like: :tu:It’s great. It has the handle squeeze lock up I’ve read many complaints about. I oiled and have been working with it and so far if the handles are squeezed tightly I can now open one handed. Good news I suppose. There was lots of complaints around these parts concerning that fault. Especially with the Free series
I have not had that problem with my Wave+I agree and especially at the price point! Sorry, I like MT's but I won't drop that kind of coin on something thats going to get locked up with metal shavings. Plus all the other problems read about
But I have heard a lot of problems with the Free
I don’t think it is acceptable for LM to allow this to happen >:(
If it ain't broke... :twak:I am quite happy with the MTs I got right now :tu:
Quite happy with my old multitools. Returned my P2 for warranty before lockdown. Can’t say I miss it.
The only one that is giving me still stiff pliers is the SurgeMaybe all the flick-a-bility MoJo was taken from the classic tool lineup and injected in the Free series to make it less suck
it is slowly getting better but is taking a long time
What are you going to do with that one Antti :like: :tu:Not sure yet, asked our warranty repair center if they can fix this one, they have bad habit to replace newer tool when sending old tools to warranty repair and i dont want newer wave to replace this one.
Could you ask them not to replaceGotta just ask do they have spare parts for that model
it as you want to keep that one :tu:
(https://i.imgur.com/KeuTeea.jpg)Along with model hobby usage, what’s an advantage of the scalpel mod? First I thought nothing of it, for some reason it’s grabbing my curiosity and I’m wondering if it could have an advantage for my uses?

I like you can use different types of bladesThat is a great idea making it legal for you to carry! And the different types of blades is what I saw online that got me curious......I may look further into this mod! Thanks W!
And for me I like that I can remove the
blade to make it EDC legal in the UK
As we aren’t aloud to carry locking blades :tu:
And the blade I am using is the same size
as the blade I removed from the Wave

My BO Wave came in today and while it's in great shape I am surprised how much handle splay there is compared to my other SS Wave. The BO one is from 2013 and my SS version is from 2017.
Nice job Steve how did you do it :like: :tu:
Sended few weeks ago my OG Wave to warranty and asked them to repair it not replace it and got it back today. They repaired allmost all tools except longest flathead.Congratulations! Nice Antti!
They also changed pliers head to new ones, Both blades, smallest and largest flatheads.
Now i need to find somewhere that long flathead to replace broken one

Hey all, new Leatherman Wave owner here and so far loving the utility of it, especially for fishing and camping. Quick question, when I bought mine I also bought one for my father for Father’s Day. I bought him the regular Stainless steel version and i bought the limited edition black and stainless steel version for myself.
I notice that his operates a lot smoother than mine and his pliers basically fall shut just with gravity whereas mine require you to actually squeeze them together and will stop and stay at any position if you stop applying force to close them.
When I first got it black oxide just kept coming off onto everything so I cleaned it really good with WD40 and oiled up all the pivot areas. The pliers have improved a little bit but are still nothing like the Pliers on my dad’s pair. Did I get a bad pair that are just stiff or are the oxide coated ones generally stiffer for longer due to the extra coating?
Thanks in advance for any answers.
Nice one and welcome to the club
:iagree: :like: and great pics you 2 :like:Looks nice
I have a BO Wave with me today

So I have to say I’m very disappointed with leatherman. I returned my wave because the pivot just kept getting looser and I ordered a charge + instead. Well the charge arrived and it’s even worse than the wave. The pivots don’t move thankfully but all the outside tools (both blades, file and saw) all rub on the inside of the scale when you’re opening and closing them AND even worse than that both serrated and plain blade have major lock rock... so bad you can easily see it moving never mind feel it. So needless to say I’m hoping third time is the charm? I’ve ordered another charge + and if this one is bad too I give up.
Sorry to hear all this, TPE, but let's hope that this new one will be the one to keep; I think that the Wave/Charge platform is the best due to the compact but robust frames, the tools included, and ease of adjustment. Now, if they'd came with factory installed awl...

I don’t get it. I have a skeletool and a micra that I’ve used for years and have been through hell and back and they’re both still rock solid and flawless other than scratches and patina.
Just got this one yesterday :woohoo:

Here is my Wave+ with some modifications: the flat screwdriver became an awl (as it's very useful to drill a starting hole and already have the double bit PH1-2/Flat) and the eyeglass bit holder removed to make room for a magnifying glass. Also there are some SAK tweezers under the woodsaw (which, by the way, exchanged the place with the file). Next mod is to build a t-shank holder similar to the one that comes with the Surge (and with that my Wave will be just right).
Hello gents, i want to ask if the below issue has appeared to any of you. I have knowledge of 2 cases in Romania. Apparently, the plier was used, some force was needed and it cracked, making one handle to close with minimal force without opening the plier (loke in the case of sticking plier head)
Both are Wave +, and i do not know how much force was put on the handle

I hope it is just a random incident with that one but maybe not  :ahhh
Raoul, Naim, I hope that Warranty Services do you good, as it is an excellent tool; I've heard of only one case of cracked pliers stop, and one from an ST300's lock so, I'm guessing (really want to think) it's just three flukes from a batch. Good luck! :tu:
I had that happen to me round 8 years ago on a brand new wave , I took it out the box opened it and heard a cracking sound. It was replaced under warranty
It is Wave Wednesday today :woohoo:Where can I find the scappel adapter please?

Kiddin' aside... those are some really good pictures, Poncho!
I'd like to nominate the one with "Waves on the rocks" for the Picture Calendar Thread!!!!!!!

If I ever am lucky enough to get another with Orange handles then you might just get to see that mod ;) of course they aren't exactly plentiful   :D
We don't have the calendar threads going anymore :-\
Great vote of confidence though and thanks, Juan :hatsoff:

New tools are sometimes the best to use :dd: ;)
Don’t know why I’ve never stopped by here before. For years I’ve obsessed over SAKs and other traditional slipjoint pocket knives and have been active on several related forums.
I suppose it’s because the Wave for me has always been just a tool. Nothing fancy, just pure utility. But, for ten years this multi tool has ridden on my belt and always served me well. It has been abused, neglected, help earn me a paycheck and gotten me out of countless jams. After a decade of almost daily use my Wave is still going strong, hell it seems as if it’s just now getting broken in. Everything is still tight, no play anywhere. The only thing that is really worn is the diamond file, and even then it’s only mellowed to a finer grit which still works great for putting an edge on my other knives.
Even the original sheath is still going strong; the elastic flashlight holster is a bit loose but I sewed a leather extension over the top to make sure whatever I carry is secure.
I’ve bought other Multis since, even some that are technically nicer than the Wave in many ways, but the design to me is something that has yet to be surpassed for ease of carry and practicality, so the Wave remains on my belt.
I once found myself in need of straight pin to make my smartphone work and this thing is hard, almost impossible to replicate. Today, once again I popped the sim card in the iPhone right before I went out the door and thought it might be a good idea to have a pin on me. Now that's not a problem when I carry almost any of my SAKs but when I carry a MT I don't want to have a sak too. A Vic might seem redundant, but I might take a dedicated knife or two :D
Anyway, I was wondering how to carry a pin with the Wave. Looked around it and though that the space under the file looks promising since from the outside tools it's the least used, for me at least. I opened it up, trow the pin inside and closed the file. It closes well, it don't get in the way of using the other tools. Great, I just need to remember it's there if I need to use the file so I won't lose it. But when I turned the tool a few times the pin came out from the space between the file and the frame. Not cool, since I like to pocket carry that thing. It needed to have a bit thicker end so it won't fall out, maybe a handle of sorts. So I got a piece of bamboo earbud, drilled a 1.5 mm whole about halfway through, stuck the pin inside and filled the whole with few drops of super glue. Now it stays where it's supposed to and the file closes normally :multi:

Just spotted what looked like a BO wave in the 2015 film Tomb Raider. :woohoo:
Those BO Waves look fantastic, especially when they’re well worn. Hmm, might be the excuse I need to upgrade to a Wave+.

The modded Core (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,74592.150.html) is for my work EDC (loaded in a Nite Ize Pock-its XL). That leaves me in need of a MT for my off work EDC (also loaded in a Nite Ize Pock-its XL). My choices are OG Super Tool, an unused Rebar, or this used Wave. I love the OG Super Tool, but it is in good shape and completes my Super Tool collection. The Rebar is perfect for my off work EDC, but I have an aversion to using a new Leatherman. So, that leaves me with the dirty, used Wave that came along with the black ES4 that I bought some weeks ago.
I will probably leave my mark on this MT also.
I wasn't aware that was a problem!

Reassembled and it feels so good!
Spent a 2 or 3 hours this morning cleaning my Wave and putting it back together. Save for a broken eyeglass bit, the MT is now in great shape.
That looks awesome  :like:
Nice going Adam :tu:
I think an awl could be a reasonable replacement for the original scissors?
:iagree: what scissors are those from again? Nice fit though :like:

Looks like a nice tool to harvest some pretty nice tools from 8) :like: :like:
Yes it is. I carried that MT for 6 weeks earlier this year and thought it was good for $30. Then I got a Super Tool and the addiction took over
Yes, my thought also. In fact, I have an awl ready to be installed. I do need to decided what to do about the small bit holder (keep it or replace it).
The scissors (and the awl) came from a Chinese MT discussed in this thread: https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,87426.msg2245966.html#msg2245966
It was a J.O.B. to install the scissors. The positioning of the spring to ensure that there is tension caused me some trouble. I think it is probably easier to install the Surge scissors in the Wave, but I wanted to use these scissors.
The OG ....
