Title: Netflix Binge Thread
Post by: Blackbeard on September 30, 2017, 08:45:46 AM
Recommend shows or warn us away from the stinkers

Just finished "The Good Place" season 1, interesting story and decently funny, not a lot of episodes, and each is only 22 minutes. blew through the season in 3 nights, but its worth checking out, has a lot of twists. Kristen Bell is hot, mean and funny, Ted Danson really good as always and theres a guy who you will swear is Samuel L Jacksons son, maybe he is, i'm not sure, but cant find the info. 8/10

Mystery Science Theater 3000 The Return

Takes a few episodes to get used to the new cast, but there are some seriously funny jokes/riffs, and some of the most horrible movies I've ever seen with ultra cheesy dialogue, actors who are beyond terrible, and scripts that should have been tossed into the sun. It all makes for some good watching and great way to kill time while you debate which sak you will buy next. If you liked the original version, you will enjoy this as well. I'm almost up to the final show of the season, hard to binge watch since they are kinda long, so its taking me a couple of months of on and off watching, but highly recommended. 9/10

Marvels Defenders

Too much talking not enough punching. You pretty much need to watch the other netflix shows that the characters are culled from (daredevil, ironfist, luke cage, jessica jones) to have some context for this show, and those shows are kinda middling as well. I watch a lot of these superhero shows cause I grew up reading and collecting comics, sold all of them off years ago cause they take up too much space and are a burden to lug around...back to the topic, The defenders comics I read as a kid had the hulk smashing stuff and I think doctor strange and rotating characters, I dont remember these guys in that title so its a bit off to me, and way too much talking and arguing between the characters, kinda boring, skip it unless you must see every super hero thing that marvel churns out. 5/10

Started watching that last night - 2 episodes in and it's as good as Mike Schur gets - very funny. Did you watch The Office, Parks and Recreation and Brooklyn nine-nine as well? Allthe same guy and very good.

Also Kimmy Schmidt is one of my favourite along with Schitts Creek and Grace & Frankie.

I'll publicly admit I'm glad Modern Family and TBBT is back on, 20 minutes of laughter is good medicine.

Seems like the first season of Snowfall is done........really enjoyed that!

I enjoyed Narcos' new season as well, except for a slight issue with the subtitles.

I started watching The Gifted but got bored of it after 10 mins so watched inhumans instead. I'll try the gifted again another time. It was about as interesting as Iron Fist was, and I gave up on that completely after 5 or 6 episodes.  Hopefully it gets better

Watched the premiere, kind of liked the inhumans. remember them from the fantastic four comics I used to read, was a lot better than some of the neflix marvel shows.

The guy who played Ramsey on Game of thrones plays a good creep, and guy from hell on wheels almost unrecognizable without his scruffy beard, guess i'm shaving mine off if I ever go on the lam. I'll throw a rating up once I see a few more episodes.

In hindsight, probably should have called this TV binge thread, as we all dont have netflix,

more superhero garbage I watch is starting next week, arrow(cheesy, plots I can barely follow, cant tell if I even like it, but been watching it for a few years), legends of tomorrow(even cheezier, but has time travel, so thats always interesting) The Flash(see last 2 parenthesis)

Another season of supernatural, watched them on netflix, enjoy this one even though its getting long in the tooth

Galavant.

Hear me out, yes, it is a musical comedy, but there is character development, and I've found several people to enjoy it.  There are only two seasons, and the episodes are roughly 22 minutes long, so you can knock out the entire series in two days.  Best of all, I think it's on both Hulu and Netflix.

Other honorable mentions are: The IT Crowd (UK version on Netflix) and Parks and Recreation (on both Netflix and Hulu).

Watched the first new episode of Supergirl, Flash and Legends, only to realise I never finished watching the previous seasons.......knew about Flash, but I thought I was up to date on the other two!

Situations like this is where I stop watching completely.....

That guy in Kansas means there's a season 2

The last episode was a thriller, I know it must be dramatized, but still, some of it is true.....

just saw the 2 first Episodes of Star Trek: Discovery, and liked them so far  :tu:
Also started watching "Genius" (biographic mini series about Albert Einstein's youth, maturity and life in general) and acting is good, they managed to keep it interesting the first 3 episodes
I saw the first 2 Episodes of the much announced "The Good Doctor" and like the science behind it, no surrealism, crazy things or made-up stuff there. Also spotted a SAK and Cold Steel folder in the first episode (pic)     :D

I stopped watching all of Marvel's TV Shows and yesterday watched the first episode of the 8th season of The Walking Dead, just released this Sunday

The last episode was a thriller, I know it must be dramatized, but still, some of it is true.....
Some of the true stuff can be just as interesting.... like the guy who buried his mother's head in the garden facing up at the house "because she always looked down on him"...

It's fascinating how his area of expertise involves profiling the killer based on the crime scene, the victim, how the victim was disposed of etc.
How many of the killers tried to get into law enforcement and drive a car similar to a cop car.
How VWs were BY FAR the serial killers' vehicle of choice in the 70s, especially Kombis which offered more.... space.....

My dad used to buy MAD Magazine........I'll never forget a cartoon I saw in there where they said all serial killers and the like are highly intelligent people, so pregnant women should smoke and drink.....have nice, normal kids

Fascinating as I find the subject, I would not want that job..........

One thing that catches my eye constantly is the smoking......in the office, in the plane, restaurant, everywhere!  And that's the way it was!

Highly recommend "Halt And Catch Fire"

Tells the story about a small group of people who were on the ground floor of the personal computer industry and weaves its way from the 1970'2-1990's, and the innovations that led us to where we are now with PC's. Great acting and writing, check it out, the series wrapped up this year.

He makes an excellent Philip. Some of the stuff coming out about the royals is truly shocking! Their PR department must have been in full swing for the past 50 odd years. Nice to see some of it represented in the show, but I'm wondering how much we still don't know.

Now about to finish whole Season 1 of Mindhunter.  :like:

im all caught up, guess I will give mindhunter or the crown or the expanse a whirl, based on your guys suggestions.
no go on expanse, not on Netflix, 15 minutes into the crown, as a middle aged American  male not sure its up my alley but will give first episode a watch.

The second series is where it gets reallllllllly interesting, exposing the royal families ties with the nazi's before, up to and during WWII, and the Profumo affair - and I think the show went easy on the truth too.  :D

If you like sci-fi, DARK is excellent... IMO

And it's nice to be able to improve my German... But English audio is an option.

I was aware of Edward's links to the Nazi already and nothing surprised me there.  Though the attempt to link Philip to Profumo though seem to be on extremely dubious ground historically.  I found the Episode juxtaposing Philip's and Charles time at school the most interesting.  The Crown is a long way from being a documentary, but it has prompted me to do a little digging to find out what it's based on.

Yeah, I knew about the Hitler/Edward connection before and was waiting to see how they handled it.   I agree, it did inspire some additional royal education.

I made the mistake of watching an abridged version of BB over at YouTube in the past and so felt as if I watched the show already. It was a mistake to do so as it skipped on so many interesting episodes.

I hope the rest of the seasons won't feel like how the Walking Dead latter seasons are...

I watched a few scenes of episode 1 of Season 5 last night and didn't like the changes...

But I get your point. I'll try again. I hope it's not like Walking Dead in the latter seasons when it's easier to just change show after the stories seem to just drag on and on aimlessly

I activated my Audible subscription and was given two free audio books so I chose Fire and Fury. Most of the juicy contents in the book have been leaked and discussed already over the major papers.

I would say the book is a mix of 2/3 facts and 1/3 opinions-cum-fiction--- just like life.  But the adage remains true--- fact is stranger than fiction! :D

I do watch an episode or 2 per day of jerry seinfelds comedians/cars/coffee, but its just ok, not as funny as it should be and watching rich guys genuflect is not as good as a comedy special

New, interesting and visually stunning......and I would rather watch 10 episodes of The Big Bang Theory......

It's just me, but both the Marvel and DC crowdedverses lost me recently with the cross-over episodes, I don't have time for all of them so I lost the plot completely.

It might just be me, but this is starting to feel like work rather than entertainment.

Some thoughts on the thread so far.

First, I LOVED the first couple Netflix Marvel series. Daredevil season 1 and Jessica Jones specifically. I was a bit disappointed that in DD season 2, the best part was Punisher. I am utterly sick to death of Elektra and the Hand. Been putting up with that dumn S*** since the 80s in the comics. Luke Cage was okay, but had a bad third act. Iron Fist was flat out bad. Defenders was alright. One thing they seemed to learn is that 13 eps is TOO long for one of these series, and cut it down to 8. I haven't seen Punisher yet. As for these not being the 'right' Defenders... Defenders was a title that had a BIG rotation of characters. When i started reading, it was Hulk, Dr. Strange, Submariner, and Silver Surfer. then, just 2 issues later, they switched the team completely, and it was Beast, Angel, Iceman, Valkyrie, Moondragon, and Gargoyle. The title never sold well. It was like a second-rate 'Avengers'. So they kept trying different combinations. I had no problem with the lineup they had in the show. Next time, they should add the Daughters of the Dragon (Coleen Wing and Misty Knight) and Hellcat (Trish Walker). And Frank, of course. :D

Someone mentioned The Mist. I loved the movie made a few years back. I tried watching the series, and it was a wretched pile of CW teen drama.

Speaking of CW Drama, I watched Flash for a while, couldn't stand Green Arrow, absolutely loathed Legends of Tomorrow, thought the first few eps of Supergirl were merely okay, I'm pretty much not the target audience for CW, I think.

Tick. I have followed the Tick since the original black and white comic came out in the 80s, and LOVE it. It is perfect, if you like absurd humor.

Expanse. Watched the first season, and was highly entertained. I'm not sure why i haven't hunted down season 2 yet.

Black Mirror. I've only seen the opening ep of this season 'The Calister', the star trek-ish one, and it was one of the best bits of sci-fi I've seen in a LONG time.

Mindhunter: Excellent. I read the book in the early 90s and while fictionalized, it's still an interesting story.

A series I haven't seen mentioned was 'American Horror Story'. Each season is a stand-alone story. I hated season 1, liked season 2 (Asylum), like Season 3 (Coven), Didn't finish season 4 (Freakshow), liked season 5 (Hotel), started the first ep of season 6 (Roanoke) and got no further.

Not on netflix, that i know of, but if you're in to superhero stuff, check out the DC Animated movies. They are almost universally really good (with the exception of 'Son of Batman').

And speaking of that, if you can find it, there are 2 seasons of an animated series called 'Young Justice' which I thought was amazing. I THINK Netflix is working on making a third season.

Jeez, enough yacking from me already.

I hated season 1, liked season 2 (Asylum), like Season 3 (Coven), Didn't finish season 4 (Freakshow), liked season 5 (Hotel), started the first ep of season 6 (Roanoke) and got no further.

also a fan of American Horror Story here   :tu:

I recommend the Punisher, so violent  :D and one of the best Marvel series out there, love the action and all the work behind the action scenes!  :gimme:
When they released the newer "The Mist" movie I also fell in love with it (in fact I bought it on DVD, rare thing to do for me) and I quickly got hooked by the same Frank Darabont when he started The Walking Dead, a series I still watch today

Arrow was a 5 episode series for me, couldn't keep watching after that.

And I've been following Black Mirror since episode 1, anxiously waiting for every new season, the last one is very good too (except the robo-dog episode  :P)

season 2 of the tick is out.

I watched most of altered carbon, maybe the sound editing needs work, I find myself rewinding it a lot, or they just through in a lot of techno jargon, I think its pretty decent, will finish it up this weekend.

Started watching American Vandal, a mockumentary ala spinal tap, pretty funny so far.

Finished Altered Carbon, thought it was a decent sci-fi series, but some of the characters mumble(the protagonist esp) or have thick accents and there's tons of techno jargon/babble/made up terms that forces you to rewind a bunch of times so that takes you out of it from time to time, great special effects tho and interesting.

For a change of pace check out the Joel Mchale weekly show, extremely funny.

Watched a few more Punishers over the weekend. It's as good as I hoped it would be. The best of the Marvel series I've watched so far. Iron Fist was so slow and dreary I gave up half way through the first season.  Luke Cage was ok, but not as good as The Punisher.

I'm up to episode 9 of Lost in Space. I'll watch the last one later tonight. I've really enjoyed it. Bit of a new twist to the story though.

Did you notice the real Dr Smith in episode 1, it is the guy who played Will Robinson in the original 1960's tv show.  He was also in a lot of the Babylon 5 tv show.

I ran through Altered Carbon recently. I remember reading the book, I dunno, ten years ago? I don't recall enough of it to say whether the show was a faithful adaptation. It was alright. I really liked the flashback episode, and anything involving Poe. Great fight scenes.

Currently working on Longmire, and just wrapped up Season 2. I'm enjoying it so far.

Not sure what's up next, though.

I don't know any of the original versions, but can I assume the movie re-make a few years ago is true to the original story?

Using the movie story line as measure, I have to say I'm impressed with the ideas of the "reboot" - it's as original as something unoriginal can be!  :salute:

The one thing I struggle with is the actor that plays Dr Smith......I dislike that woman's face so much it almost pains me

I hope she's a nice person in real life, and just a good actor!

Just saw the latest Thor move, Ragnarok, was decent, tries hard to be a comedy too often though, but it's got good cgi and epic fight scenes.

Cannot recommend 2 shows highly enough. First is Hannah Gadsby's 'Nanette' and second is Queer Eye.

Both are extremely moving and powerful - each in their own way.

Queer Eye is incredible for reality tv. Genuinely ground breaking and unique, honest, emotional and heartwarming but raw too. These guys have had to be strong just to be themselves and they use their experience to build bridges, tear down prejudice and help people out, not just with their style but their entire lives.  Amazing.

Nanette is like no other comedy show I've ever seen - as honest, as raw and as deep as you'll ever see.  Like with the guys from Queer Eye, you get an idea of the sheer determination and courage queer people have to have just to be themselves, even these days.  Humbling to a straight, white dude.

I like it but I seem to be developing a low tolerance for tv shows in general.......first hint of a show veering off course I stop watching and delete the past seasons.

What do you get when you mix Samuel Jackson (you know who he is) and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool)?
The Hitmans Bodyguard, an "action thriller", I think this sort of movie is called.
Depending on your perspective, it has an obscenely or comically over the top amount of violence and swearing.   ::)
Every sentence on average has one of Samuel Jacksons and Ryan Reynolds favorite swear words in it. AND as a bonus, you get lots of Spanish and French swearing from other characters.

So, the reason I mention this movie is because of our favorite 91mm red handled multitools, SAKs. This movie features two appearances of one, being used by Ryan Reynolds. :climber: It was either a Tinker or Spartan I think, might go back and check.
It helps with stealing a car in the first appearance.
In the second... hmm, its worthy of more discussion.
From this SAKnight's perspective, which is probably not the same as the directors perspective, I think it solidifies the Bodyguards reputation as being the best of the best..... Because he manages to deploy a SAK main blade while running through a crowd from the bad guys, and then stab a bad guy in the torso all the way up to the handle without the blade folding and chopping off his fingers.

Oi...me and names

Jim Jeffries interview with a lady comedian from back in the day made me think.....she mentioned comedy making people belly laugh, and maybe that not being the case so much these days....

I hope this is not an indication of a personality flaw, but I watched the CC roast of Bruce Willis, and then laughed even more watching James Franco's  roast.

I honestly laughed so hard I'm sure the neighbours heard me!

Suits was the first ever lawyer show I've watched, no idea why since the back-stabbing and political maneuvering is too much like real life for me to find it entertaining.....it lost me 2 seasons ago, watch the first episode of S08 just to confirm for myself.

Godless...really good western, lots of actors from familiar shows, jeff daniels, the fat nurse from nurse Jackie, computer guy from Halt and catch fire, Biker from sons of anarchy...really good cast and story 8/10 I'm through half the mini series

Disenchantment...watched a few episodes, tries to be a simpsons/futurama/game of thrones mashup, but it's not as good as it should be, havent really laughed at many of the jokes 4/10 hope it gets better.

Often, a British series will have comparatively few episodes made....

Unless it’s a soap, then it’s been going on since the beginning of the Cold War and has thousands of episodes. ::)

Watched a few episodes, pretty decent story and acting, not as scary as the title suggests but I might be a jaded viewer at this point in my life, when you're eating dinner and out of the corner of your eye you see a large spider on your shoulder like I did last night....that's some scary s***, I definitely let out a scream

"Lucifer" : Mix Supernatural + buddy cop show + a bunch of actors from suits, shake lightly and put on TV, it's decent, if you like supernatural you will probably enjoy it.

So.....

Supernatural is back for another season......

Mayans MC........worth a watch

The First - liked the concept and the first two episodes were good.......then the writers got lazy I think, don't need all the dramatic flash-backs

The Last Ship S3 - Last season they were right on the edge of what was still entertaining........this new season they pushed me beyond the brink before the end of EP1......

Bull........new season, still liking it, not sure why

Had the season saved on dvr, finally got around to it, about to watch finale  :iagree: good successor to "Sons Of Anarchy"

Attempted to watch "Bandersnatch" on firestick - no go, tried my phone - nope, you get incompatibility message and wonder if it's part of the movie  then you get an email from netflix telling you to try another device...creepy. google search to see wtf was going on, fired up the old PS3 and bingo, it's interactive and you need compatible device so not every streaming service/device can play it.

Just getting it to play was a pain, but it's worth it, if you remember the old "choose your own adventure" books from your childhood you will appreciate it. 7.5/10

"Patriot" 8.5/10 On Amazon Prime. One of the better shows I've seen in the last few years.  Has a Coen bros/Breaking Bad/Mr. Robot/Justified Vibe. Probably would have given it a 9 but felt like it could have been a little shorter(a few scenes drag on too long,) and gotten the same results. Rating is for S1.

It's written by a woman, think she has issues?  :dunno: episode 5 has the bloodiest fight scene. Violence is a strange beast, people have no issue with Star Wars when an entire planet is blown up, but a guy getting hit in the face with a kettlebell will made me cringe.

Just to clarify, the episode of the punisher I was watching had a female writer, but there are multiple writers male and female...it's a good show, at times uber violent and bloody as Serena said, but I've seen worse  :ahhh, definitely not boring like some of the other Marvel shows

Ray Romano 2 part comedy special...I don't know if I was just very tired or first half was boring but I fell asleep 5 minutes into it and woke up 1/2 hour later, and the second part had started, there were some funny bits but I will rewatch the first show and give a review in next day or so.

Binged Punisher Season 2

I never read the comics so I don't know the character, what I do like is his ability to survive and kick-smurf seemingly without and supernatural abilities.

There was however one part that I found utterly ridiculous, en E10 where he cracks after shooting the women.  I do not find that realistic for the character, and for some reason it rather irritated me for a moment.

As for the violence, I found that realistic except maybe for the fight in the gym.  Not sure even Russian gansters can take those hits  :P

Yeah I fell asleep a few times during a few episodes(but I cant say if it was just my late night viewing habits or the writing)and had to rewind a bunch but i did enjoy it. It starts off kinda slow and has a watchmen feel with present day characters and past day backstory unlike most origin first superhero stuff. Thought it was better then some of the snoozefest netflix Marvel shows, most of them have been canceled anyways.

Been having a hard time finding shows to watch in between rewatching "Supernatural" seasons out of order, so I tried Ken Jeong's comedy special, "lets see if this is funny" I said to myself...2 brutal days later of watching in 20 minute increments my answer is no, no it is not. There's basically one joke about his wife's name, and then him name dropping endlessly and making "The Hangover" references and bragging about his bank account and medical degree. I don't think I laughed once.

Yeah Mags, I forgot about community, that was a good show, if you are looking for a comedy special I think I posted a few in this thread that were really funny, but if someone else wants to check this one out, would be interesting to see their opinion...I looked on IMDB page of this just now and many are saying the same tho, I think if if Netflix hadn't promoted it as stand up comedy and maybe like a storyteller thing it might have had more traction to some.

Last Big Bang was pretty good, then there was a followup show with the cast members, pretty interesting, and they showed that the series was filmed in front of a studio audience, so those sites that talk about a laugh track must have gotten their info wrong  or just hating on the success  :dunno:

"Good Omens" with Dr. Who's David Tennant on prime looks interesting, lots of good user reviews on IMDB, but limited metacritic score average at 61, so not sure what to think, will give it a try and report back.

I got a few episodes of "Good Omens" watched, it's written by Neil Gaiman and does have a very comic booky feel, also reminiscent of Hitchhikers Guide books with a lot of narration laid over the scenes. I do find some issues with some of the mumbled British accent dialogue which I have to rewind to hear it again, but that might just be a USA persons problem. It's not a show that's groundbreaking, feel like there's a lot of borrowed ideas from "Supernatural"

There is also an air of smugness to the writing but I may also be misconceiving things, will have a better notion after I finish it up. If anybody besides Gerhard is still reading this thread.... I haven't a clue anymore   :dunno::rofl: I could probably post 10 paragraphs of random keyboard mashes and nobody would notice.

I'd give it a 6.5/10 for "Good Omens" Wasn't great, but not terrible, a mashup of "Hitchikers Guide To The Galaxy + "Supernatural" + "Dr. Who" but with a lot of Hammy acting, decent special effects and good soundtrack(A lot of Queen)

Hmmmmmmm, I was about to say...

It was on Netflix......

I binged it.......

I loved it!  :woohoo:

Good Omens 11/10

It was one of my favourite books ever, Prachet easily got too much for me and Gaiman tempered the story nicely.  It was too many years ago to remember how accurate it is to the book, but I think they did a great job.

Tentant gave a masterful performance

I still don't have netflix so watch them via other means

I'm currently catching up with Lucifer.

I haven't watched any of the stranger things series yet but will at some stage.

Good Omens on amazon prime was good, so was Jack Ryan.  I've just started watching Hanna on there as well, which looks like it will be a good series.

Has anyone seen they new "Andy Griffith Show?" It is a hard 'R' version of the original with lots of nudity, foul language and murder. Barney is HUGE and Aunt Bea is a hottie!

Just kidding...but the way they are remaking everything...could happen.

On a serious note...I started watching "Agents of Shield" just because it was on Netflix and had Coulson in it. At first I was really into it, but after awhile the story lines just wore me out. The whole "I am going to follow orders when it suits me," followed up by the "we caused the world to be on the brink of disaster again" follow-up, became formulaic at best.

I know "The Orville" was mentioned very early on, but I have to really tip my hat to Seth McFarlane. The series has taken a more serious SciFi role, and although the humor is still mixed in, the subject matter is great. In my eyes, it has almost out star trekked star trek.

For the last week, I have been watching Van Helsing on Netflix. I still cannot decide if I am going to stick with this show. In the show, vampires have taken over the world and there are only a few humans left. The writers really seem to suck at building characters the audience would ever care about. The surviving humans are the worst kind of people possible. Cold, uncaring, fragile, turn on a dime, full of betrayal...heck, one is an actual serial killer. Even the "good guys" seem WAY to quick to drop the hammer on other surviving humans. Everyone is screwing everyone else over in one way or another. They just really don't seem to build any sympathy for anyone in the show. You can't even root for the vampires in the show because they are screwing each other over too.

There are too many scenes that are drawn out with contrived suspense. A lot of secrets with ten minutes of another character repeatedly asking what is going on. Some real inconsistencies that drive me crazy keep popping up. One minute, UV light burns the heck out of a vampire, the next minute they are walking around on a sunny day just fine because there is a little shade.

I guess I am griping a lot considering I am still watching the show. At this point I decided to at least finish the first season to see if it gets any better. It blows my mind though that it was renewed for a fourth season, considering some of the shows that have been canceled.

This last season sucked as a whole, all fine and well using the show to make social commentary, few episodes managed to do that in a good way and still be funny, but many just sucked.

Seth McFarlane has such an excellent sense of humor I'm surprised and disappointed.  Maybe he spent too much time in Charlize Theron's company

First episode of Watchmen was  :woohoo:

Was interesting, but strange, gonna have to see some more episodes & see where they are going with the story.

Saw 6/8 episodes of the new netflix series "Living With Yourself" with Paul Rudd. Better than the previews make it seem, but also seems padded to get more episodes/length by showing same story from different characters perspectives, but it's a decent watch so far 7/10.

On regular networks, "Evil" is pretty interesting and creepy, "Emergence" is a decent sci-fi series, This seasons "Always Sunny In Philladelphia" much better than past couple of years.

This was a funny one, but I have to admit the fighting technique they thought up for blind people was quite interesting.
Clearly they provisioned for a second season....and I might just watch it.

Treadstone lost me a bit, but that's mostly due to a 2-week internet outage and having to catch up.  Same might be true for Supernatural.......afraid they may have finally jumped the shark

His dark materials is just getting better, I don't understand why I like the series and I doubt I finished watching the movie(s?)

The Witcher - 7/10

There were times in the middle episodes where I couldn't keep awake, but in general there was some great SNVL to keep you awake

Clearly they intend a second season.....I'd watch it  :salute:

The triple disconnected timelines on The Witcher is making it hard for me to really get into the series. I think anyone familiar with the mythos would probably enjoy the series a lot, but it is tough sometimes because they are definitely not into explaining...anything.

So, I expect a lot of "They explain later," or, "It all comes together at the end," or, "It is a complex plot beyond the understanding of short attention spans," kind of responses...bring it on...lol. Entertainment is in the eyes of the beholder. I don't think this is one I will be getting into.

"His Dark Materials" really took a turn to boring snoozefest land, took me 5 tries to watch the finale and by then I was cheering for the bad guys and never want to here the name Roger or an animal with a british childs voice again

Trying to watch V wars but the acting and dialogue is pretty bad.

Also having a tough time getting into "Lost in Space" hard to pick back up on these shows after a long layover.

I am enjoying the last season of "Mr. Robot" tho

Finished Lost In Space S2, was ok, not great, S1 was better tho. Thought they threw in too many extra characters, couldn't keep track of who they were, & seemed there were a lot of plot holes, it has some decent special effects, but the robot/kid dynamic was kinda creepy to the point where I thought they were gonna start making out   6/10

Still trying to slog through V wars, but it's some serious low budget schlok with bad writing even more plot holes and some serious bad acting

Witcher was pretty good as I just finished Season 2 of Jack Ryan on Prime.

The problem i have with this version of Jack Ryan is he is more hands on than he should be. Jack Ryan is an occasional field officer with more brains than brawn. Prime's Jack Ryan is a " Liam Nesson trying to find his daughter" type.

Was gonna check that out last night but fell asleep. Currently watching "The Witcher" pretty good, would be nice if they threw in some graphics so you could tell what year it was, kind of jumps around through time with no explanation.

Finished the awful "V Wars" I'd give it a 4.5/10, but if you like cheesy sci-fi/horror with bad acting it may be worth a shot.

I did catch the first episode of "Dracula" and agree with GG's 8/10 although it was very similar in some sections to the movie with Gary Oldman

Also liked "Messiah" but it did drag in some parts and didn't address some questions before it ended, but instead sets up for another season 7/10

Had finished the second season of "Jack Ryan" a few weeks ago, thought S1 was a bit better, but it was pretty good 7.5/10

Couple others I watched recently that have some very funny moments: "Dolemite Is My Name" with Eddie Murphy 7.5/10 & "The Kominsky Method" with Michael Douglas & Alan Arkin 7/10

October Faction -  7/10

The first season was entertaining,  but the setup for the second season was kinda obvious
I know this is expected in a series, but I found it slightly irritating.

There is a part of the story line that seems utterly contrived to display the writer's woke-status, I know sexuality and gender are favourite topics, and I have no problem with one of the lead characters being gay, or even the kiss....

What set my BS-meter ringing is the fact is seems more important that he's gay than the fact the he's a warlock!

If you're going to be a gay warlock, cool, but be a gay warlock, not a gay warlock!

"The Irishman" 8/10

Pretty good, lots of similarites to Goodfellas I thought, with soundtrack from the era and character set ups and voice overs. Was a little long, they probably could have cut a 1/2 hour out of it or made into a mini series, but overall a good mobster pic. Also check out the short doc after the movie Scorsese, Deniro, Pecci & Pacino talk about the CGI used to make them look younger which is pretty amazing.

I was able to view it in one sitting with a few bathroom and coffee breaks, needed something to kill the time until an early doctor appointment for my ruined knee which might have a torn ligament, so painful, hoping for the best but I think I'm pretty boned  :(

orthopedist took some xrays, but thinks it might be gout which I had in my foot a couple of times, didnt know it could be in the knee also, anyway he shoved a needle into my knee and drained it,  wow that was some horrible painful procedure  and then shot my knee up with liquid ibuprofen and now I have to wait on blood and drained fluid to be tested by lab. Been a rough couple of weeks but may not be torn up ligaments which is a relief. When I had gout in the past its excruciating, pain makes you wish for death  ::)

New seasons of "Altered Carbon" next week, "Ozark" in a month and on Prime the Pacino series "Hunters" looks interesting + a medical update, test for gout showed up negative, I'm walking better after getting a cortisone shot but think I have another torn miniscus, getting old blows.
Woohoo
Have been waiting for that 2nd season forever! Keeping fingers crossed for a gooood show.

Right with you there BB - I'm at home with my foot up after having my big toe carved up in the hospital without anaesthetic. Ouchy! My resident MD Nix hasn't ruled gout out though being a teetotal vegetarian I'm not sure how I qualify for gout.

Got an MRI scan next week hopefully. My guess is a bone infection which will be bad news.

Sending thoughts and good vibes to you dude

Thank you and hope you feel better soon Mags  I think an issue with gout is that by the time you give up on it going away & drag yourself to the doctor the crystals may not show up in test, I've heard that from someone, when I had it in my toe the blood test was negative but by then it was feeling better, but the symptoms and nasty pain couldnt have been anything else.

watched that a few years back, but it lost me in later seasons, never finished the last season, but might revisit.
The fourth season is the live action sequel to Frozen I never knew I wanted.

I really liked Ozark, but never got through season 1......or maybe just the beginning of season 2

Hunters.....watched the first few minutes and it got....interesting....very quickly

Just came back from my first of many extra-corporeal shockwave treatment for my non-insertional tendonopothy    :ahhh
....and just BTW, the previous physio told me "make sure you are close to death before agreeing to the next cortisone shot"
.....and good luck with the injury!

That cortisone shot did nothing lol, my knee is still killing me, I've had several of these shots, 2 in my other knee and 2 in my shoulder and I never see any difference from them...my health plan stinks, I have to do physical therapy before I can get approved for an MRI and the physical therapy never works either  I had 2 surgeries in the aforemetioned knee and shoulder and still have problems with both, about ready to throw in the towel  :)

We should set up an Old Guys support group to compare aches pains and injuries. Ooo me back.

That sounds horrendous Gerhard  :ahhh you ok?

Well, it puts the whole story of how the Achilles tendon got its name into perspective
I was pleasantly surprised during this process, the orthopedic surgeon I consulted said this shockwave treatment is the first step, PRP injection second, then surgery if all else fails.
There fact that PRP treatment is available in our little 3rd world country was a shock....

Even if they don't make you go fat, they are no good for you.....
I was lucky with my knee, keyhole surgery and a quick fix, but I "walked" around with it for 2 years, know exactly how debilitating it can be.......good luck, try another doc maybe?

Locke & Key 8/10

After being put off by too many shows with annoying kids, didn't think I would enjoy it, but the acting and story was very good and low annoying kid factor  made for a decent watch.

 :salute:

Spot-on, really enjoying it thanks to the somehow non-annoying kids

Formula One: Drive to Survive 10/10

I got into F1 in my late 20's, but I completely lost interest a few years ago.

Post-Schumacher I just never connected with any of the new drivers, and I dislike Hamilton quite a bit

I started watching season 1 yesterday and couldn't stop, the behind the scenes action is considerably more interesting than the racing

Started season 2 3am this morning when sleep departed

Tiger King, can't even describe how insane this show is, but a good distraction from all the other insane smurf going on.

Finished "Tiger King" It's a crazy white trash dumpster fire that you can't stop watching despite all the deplorable people involved, I'd give it a 8.5/10 for entertainment value.

Homeland?

Once I started it I was hooked - loved every minute

If you've got amazon prime, the Expanse is great
