It's ok, you're just in denial..........................
Wow - posh Huntsmen! Sweet. :salute:
Do you EDC something that lovely?
Oddly I'm not a Huntsman fan,yet it's my hardest working and most abused SAK.It lives in my kitchen, and does all sorts, every day
It's a workhorse choice I guess - not the prettiest or the most interesting but reliable and useful. The Telecaster of penknives!
Yeeeehaw!
Like I said - it's the Telecaster of SAK's - not different enough to warrent pictures but it does the job. I bloody love mine.
Nice pics by the way everybody. :salute:
Mind you,I do keep my Huntsman Lite at my folks place in NI.Thinline Tele?
Has everything you might need without going over sized :sak:

My first SAK was a Huntsman... but sadly I lost it after a couple of years.
But I can still be a member of this club:

The Huntsman is one of those SAKs everyone should be required to own. Mine wears Silvertech scales. :tu:
The Huntsman; it's the datum by which I judge all other SAKs. They are all Huntsmen with tools added, removed or changed. :D
Mine in it's lovely translucent red scales. 8)

Nice SAK, isn't that a Climber with a woodsaw?
And...
Does an Altimeter Plus count? Closest one I have to a Huntsman...
It's very Huntsman-like (Huntsmanesque?), it does a good impression anyway...Close enough IMO. ;)
Here's mine. Does this count?

Hey, wait :ahhhNope; picked it up from a Canadian seller.
I won one of those on eBay and I now remember that I never received it. Seriously. Was the seller from France? ;)
I hope you have room for one more member - This just turned up about 5 mins ago. :DNice. :tu: That shield looks different as well, very interesting. :)

My Huntsmen look pretty bland compared to some of these beauties, but if I'm going to post in the Ranger Owner's Club, then it's only fair that I throw my Huntsmen in here as well.

Vicky, the lucky Huntsman that doesn't need to worry about being carried ever again.
It's not going to beat any of the previous ones posted, but this overpriced Huntsman does represent a lot of history. It's a natural for the Hudson's Bay Company to have a Victorinox SAK represent their heritage.

Well, apparently, I own a Huntsman that I thought was a Climber  So I'm a member of the club (or always have been).
Is the saw made out of Clear Aluminum? Is this Star Trek 4?
Just kidding. It took me actual years (like, 10 of them) to figure out if my first Economy Recruit was a Victorinox or a Wenger. Stupid Economy Vic logo.
Transparent Aluminum actually... but who cares (cue the angry trekkies), welcome to the club :tu:
Don't worry about the Trekkies, worry about the Humpbacks! :ahhh
Received my Huntsman SilverTech today!!!
Huntsman is still the SAK that I think everyone should own. Looks good in the silvertech scales Serena. 8)+1 :tu:
My pre 89 huntsman is a great fishing buddy. On a neck lanyard, the scizzors cut line for a few hours today. And the saw was used to cut jagged dangerous branches on a path.
Unfortuantely, the main blade was not used to clean trout.

Sweet Tele by the way - do you play?
Still definitely one of my favourite SAKs and one I'd never get rid off, especially as it was one of my very first SAKs I bought myself.

A fun group of 'Camo Fun" Huntsmans.
Some really nice Huntsmen on this thread, such a variety. Pretty partial to the Huntsman myself, a few older ones.
1st is a 84mm small Huntsman from the mid 40's to early 50's. Opening all of the blades on this one is not for the faint hearted.....got away with only one Band-Aid. 😛
2nd top is LNF version from the 60's, bottom is LNF from the 70's.

I love that your father gave that to you, Barry.
My Grandfather gave me a Climber back in '75, much to my regret I lost that knife.
I'm imagining El Corky getting on the plane to Bern and realising that he forgot the Bern Huntsman! :ahhhI love that your father gave that to you, Barry.

Jim,
The Silvertech scales are really nice, no doubt. Now, I hate to have to be the one to break this to you, but you will need to get another Huntsman with darker scales. You see, that Silvertech Huntsman would just be too easy to lose in all this snow.....

(We've gotten about 10" of snow over the past 3 days. You guys down South get any?)
For me, the Huntsman is the Iconic Swiss Army Knife.Agree, and I find use for that p-hook! :salute:
It may be that other SAK's are more popular (Classic) or more historic (Soldier), but the Huntsman with it's collection of classic SAK tools (scissors, saw, corkscrew) becomes the iconic SAK. And for good reason, what a great knife.....

Might look at its best ... but I'd worry I'd never find it if I dropped it ... so it's not camo for me :salute:

Hope the Fire Fly kickstart is ready to go, would be great in a Huntsman toothpick slot, strike it with the back edge of the saw...They say it is so I ordered plus scales...
Not sure how I missed this thread.
The Huntsman (small 84mm) is the most expensive SAK I've ever purchased. I had to pay dearly since it was mint in box.

I like using waxed jute for tinder. You might be able to put a short strand of waxed jute under the saw. You don't need much to get a fire going.
Or....you could put a thick strand (doubled-up strand) inside the corkscrew.
Ah Ha! Thanks el Corkscrew, never though of that one! :salute:...added a Fire Fly to the Huntsman for upcoming summer if it ever gets here.

Finally got your Firefly huh? :tu: That's awesome!!! How do you like it? Staying in the slot okay?? I'm sure the TP would fit under the scissors..
d'oh, now that I have a Victorinox T-shirt with the Huntsman model in it, I guess it's time I start looking for one. :ahhh

The shirt is an excellent start, but you'll find the real thing even better. :D
The Huntsman was my first real SAK. I bought it in the mid to late 90s after I lost my first pocket knife, I think a Japanese copy my Great Grandparents bought me for my 6th birthday. I remember it had a fish scaler and the scales were darker red I'm sure. I was quite upset that I'd lost it but I really can't remember it clearly enough now. Up until I started work in 2006 and got a LM Juice the Huntsman had been my only multi tool. It has been abused a fir bit and the blade layer doesn't have a very sound snap any more. I had to replace the scissors spring as I liked to play, flicking them open and listen to the springy noise until it snapped  I still have the box it came in, a maroon colour, not the silver like they are now.
I bought the blue Huntsman off eBay a few years ago. I actually bid on a Climber, I think the intention I had was to modify the scissors into a Cadet, but I was pleasantly surprised when my Climber came with an added wood saw :tu:. The seller had mislabelled his pre-packed item :dunno:. It is also brand new :woohoo:. I can see all the factory grind marks and the saw still has the fuzzies left from the grinding process, never been used. So I decided it wasn't worth tearing down and have left it as is. While I've now bought other SAKs and multis, the Huntsman will always be the one I like the most :salute:

Sorry everyone! November 1st it is. I've been caught up in the Spirit challenge. I'll compile a list of names of participants. The badge is completed. All we need to do is kick it off 😁Yeay! :hatsoff:
I know that there must be an easier way to do this, but please pm me if you are going to be participating in the challenge next month. Thanks in advance!PM inbound

This is sad:Dont be so hard on yourself, they should teach Scouts cork screw, a life skill
Today I learned that I don't actually have a 'real'(for lack of a better word) Huntsman (a member brought up the BoyScout Huntsman). I have a 2003 NIB BoyScout Huntsman(backside phillips). I now need to buy a regular Huntsman (with the corky screw). :climber:
Now...which scales do I want?... :D
Thanks, TonySal. Camo sounds good. I do like my Spartan in camo. A camo Huntsman is now on the "to get list"(technically it will be a red scaled Huntsman and a set of camo scales popped on to save money).:iagree:Good way to do it! I thought of Staglow but bought a Climber with them instead (reason to buy......)
It's always nice to come up with reasons to buy more SAKs. :)
Carrying this little one today in sympathy with (or is that for) the Huntsman Challenge Group. 2 or 3 days maybe, 30....I’d go bananas. Good luck people....... :cheers:That is a very nice Huntsman! :like: :hatsoff:

Love the Huntsman!
This was my first pocket knife given to me by my grandfather when I was around 7 years old. Such a great combination of tools and it saw a lot of carry and use. From what I have gathered (and I am still not sure) this one was made around 94 which is when I turned 7. Correct me if I’m wrong. Just recently added the micro SD but the scales don’t have a hole for the pin.

I haven't posted in about half a decade, but here's my "new" 1986-88 Huntsman, with grooved corkscrew and no hook. I like the hook, but for some reason the older corkscrew makes me feel sophisticated and old-timey.Nice lime green on there! :like: :tu:
Also, in hi-viz lime green, is Vicky. (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,46255.0.html) She's been coming to work lately, though since work is a school instead of a construction site, she has little to fear.

MADE scales for? :pok: Tutorial ;).I know, right! Where is that add to cart button? :dunno:
The Hunstman was my first SAK, and is still one of my all-time favorites for hiking and camping. Here are a few that I've made custom scales for. Green canvas micarta, white paper micarta, and orange G-10.
The camo and the yellow are production. The ebony one was some ebony wood blocks that I ordered and shaped. The other wood is from a discarded oak coffee table. The mixed scales are oak, with a polymer insert made from the faux ivory dominoes you can buy at almost any store. I cut a rectangle piece of wood, then divide it about 2/3 the way down at an angle, epoxy a domino in between. I work it down on my belt sander and shape it into a set of scales.
Cheesy, but it seems to turn out ok.
It doesn't take long to get in the groove. I had an old SAK with no scales that I had disassembled and found that the metal sides make a great tool for making scales. The outline helps you shape the scales, plus the rivet holes show you exactly where to relieve material to accomodate the rivets on a SAK.
Only custom...
Nice one eTripper :like: :tu:
I accidentally bought a Huntsman recently, only to discover it is just an Outrider that shrank in the wash!

Thanks for the up-vote, Ray! :iagree: The Tomcat [1.0] was one of my first "new era" knives, in the late-eighties. Sold-it, and bought the 2.0-version. I'm slowly, getting-back into the SOG-brand again. For the longest-time; I felt they were just an uninspiring brand. The new SEAL XR has gotten my attention.:iagree: on the uninspiring part. The Tomcat came in with class, good looks and being solid.

Over 30 years ago I purchased my first SAK, a black Huntsman, and my life changed for the better.I bought the 2018 Chinese zodiac year of the dog Huntsman for my son because that's his birth year. When he is old enough I plan on giving him that knife and a puppy of his own because dogs and SAK's are man's best friend!

Pics! Not really good ones, but still :PWell that is interesting and cool. :tu:
This one is pretty good. It has the chisel which is quite cool. I remember seeing this unusual model in France and Germany in the 1990s. I even asked the staff to search for one in their stock but somehow that was always unsuccessful :P It was purely meant to be a store display knife.
Like I said before: unsharpened blades, extra stops on most of the tools in order to display the SAK in the position shown, weaker springs. They were always welded onto a stainless steel post with a wooden or plastic base.
A blob of weld still visible on the bottle opener. The steel post used to be attached there.
Second one, no chisel. Bottle opener with no obvious bevel. This one also has the extra stops on several tools.

Considering the Olympic emblem and it's a post '92 model, I was thinking maybe this was a run for the 100 year anniversary of the modern Olympics (1996) but I can't find anything specific on this particular Huntsman. It's in great shape though so I'm stoked! If anybody might know if this had it's own model number I'd greatly appreciate any info you could shoot my way.Sweet looking Huntsman! Seems ok.... :think:I like them too Tony but perhaps not quite as much as the firefly which being longer is that little bit easier to use IMO. The tinder is really good and lights from the fireant easily, making for a very good package

Are you able to tell the year based on the translucent scales. My silver one has 16 among other numbers stamped on it and i interpreted it to mean the scales at least are from 2016.
pretty easy to read the date on a ‘wheel’ with a pointer.

I typically carry something large, like a Ranger, Handyman or SwissChamp, with a Cybertool Lite for when I'll be building PCs.Funny. Well if you are not out at night or looking behind the couch I don't think the Lite would be necessary but that's just me....
So the question today is - Should I travel light, or should I travel Lite?

To celebrate my first SAK mod (got wild and ordered plus scales..), I decided to man up and write my first post to this forum. So here goes. Huntsman and Spartan.

:like: I'm pretty sure I've shown my L.L. Bean Spartan somewhere. They made some awlsome plaid ones, too.

Everybody seems to be having fun, so I will post a photo. Black Huntsman. I like the toolset on these things, and they carry well too. Best wishes. G

Walnut scales in action.......bag full of nettle seeds and a couple of teasel heads, courtesy of the Huntsman scissors :)Love those scales!
Stoer you seem like the sort that would take a basket along on a walk through the woods and bring back some tasty mushrooms or something. Huntsman makes a good foraging companion, don't you think? Best wishes. G
:like: Please let's us City guys see what you are processing
No hazelnuts here, but I do have deer and turkeys in my big back yard. I was going to post a photo, but it wasn't clear enough. I substituted a photo from February instead. Huntsman is in my pocket today. :dunno::like: :tu:

But i found one thing interessting: Could it be that back in the 90tes or 80tes, the Medium Size Victorinox where shorter than they are now? I have compare the Huntsman whit an 2 Layer whe have lying around in our bathroom (Spartan?) and its maybe a cm shorter ..So, the Huntsman is 91 mm. Sounds like your old “Spartan” is actually a Tourist, which has the identical tool set to the Spartan but is 84 mm long vs. the 91 mm Huntsman and Spartan.
