Title: Custom Ti Scientist is coming home
Post by: TennTexan on February 28, 2018, 07:22:57 PM
Syph007 just finished up this incredible tumbled Ti Scientist with brass magnifier and hidden scale drawer for me.  This will be my second custom from him, and I can't wait to get it in hand.  You've out done yourself, sir!  :salute:

Mine too!  I've loved the Scientist ever since I first learned about it on SAKWiki and managed to track one down on eBay.  Syph actually made my custom using a second Scientist from eBay as a donor.

Great. Thanks. Now I've got ANOTHER SAK on my wish list.

In all seriousness...
Am I the only one amazed at that brass lens holder? I mean, yes, the slide-out is awesome, but... BRASS MAGNIFYING GLASS! Holy cow, that's cool!

According to Bob, the old magnifiers in the grey plastic housing are more fragile than the current model that he normally uses.  He says he broke three lenses before getting one installed intact, and probably won't do another conversion of the old style one to brass housing.  He'll still convert the new style magnifier to brass, though.

The only reason I wanted the old magnifier is that I wanted to use the older, long inline Phillips that was original on the Scientist because it has a finer tip than the new, shorter one on something like the Explorer.

Fear not I can engrave a unicorn and anodize the horn blue.  😀

Got the Scientist in the mail today.  It’s even better in real life than in the pics.  Hit the brass cross with some Simichrome and it shined up nicely.  The scale drawer holds four wooden toothpicks, which is exactly what I wanted it for.  Syph does amazing work!

Thanks for the Simichrome tip. I´ll have to try it on my Buccaneer. Does it affect the titanium too?

Instead of toothpicks, you could keep four short bits of Spaghetti in there...

The polish didn’t seem to affect the tumbled Ti, but then again I tried to focus my efforts on the brass cross.
