Title: Adze/Hazel Hoe Resto
Post by: NKlamerus on December 08, 2018, 05:56:43 AM
Been wanting to keep a decent garden hoe of some kind mounted in my truck, already have a shovel (spade) and an axe.

Picked this one up at Goodwill for $8, needed a weekend project anyways!

Handle is usable, but I want to upgrade to something at least 40" long. I'm a pretty tall guy and would hate to bend over every throw.

Never hung a head on a square though!

First steps, removing handle and U-Staple holding the head down.

Soaking it and a few other projects in evaporust overnight. First time I've ever diluted it with water so we will see how that goes. Rust soak and paint removal complete! Hit the edge with a file and a Dremel. Not too concerned with a razor sharp edge with the rocky ground around me.

Found a handle as well......not really what I wanted, only thing I can find with a square head. Owner of the shop has never had one returned for grain orientation breaking, running E/W instead of N/W. All 20 or so they had were like that, overall they had over 300 handles. Axes, pick axes, shovels, you name it.

Working on fitting the head now, I don't have any power tools, just a rasp, sandpaper, and a Dremel.
