Title: De-stressing today, my guitar .
Post by: Zed on May 18, 2010, 12:05:34 PM
I built this guitar 5 years ago from products from WD , its been a great guitar but as i sprayed it black first and then white its got knocked a bit over the years so i decided to give it a relic type look,i also re-shaped the headstock as was a genus one before as i didnt wont a usual strat type headstock, ive got back into playing a bit lately due to stresses in life, and i chill out while playing, well as i got a meeting with my ex wed night i did this to take my mind off it, here is fletch  :D i called him that after the chevy chase movies back in the 80's caddy shake was to long  i like reminders of the 80's good times, nd great tunes  ;) i might see if i can pick up a aged scratch plate and buttons or possibly just the buttons and pickup covers

if you sand the existing covers and dump them in coffee it should age them a bit i think :P

i just read that tea or coffee should do it ryan, its in the the cup as we speak  :D plus 2 tea bags for good measure  :tu:

might try this as well

you can dechrome. A galvanic element proceedure.

- 10-liter plastic buckets filled with warm water

- Stir in salt, the quantity of cooking salt determines the current flow

- start with a little salt and watch, it should go slow with the
dechroming, then add salt during the process thoroughly.

- A battery charger, with 6 / 12 volt switchable.
6 volts takes a little longer, ideal is 12 volts

- To dechrome part of the Plus terminal, with a strong wire or cable,
because the clips with resolutions.

- The plate minus any part (black plate, no refined tin)
On the sheet metal store are part of the chromium from afterwards.

- Both parts (Part Chromed and sheet metal part) in the salt solution

- Turn on the charger and voila the dechroming starts

- The chrome now migrates from the nobler part of the base plate part.

- The water you can simply dispose later, it's only water / salt solution

Nitromors will shift it, but a bit like your Sideclip experiment, it's all a bit one directional once you start  :P

I suggest you look into a guitar pod... at least then you can play with headphones, and get some pretty good sound!

It's funny reading this discussion, as the very thought of scratching my Les Paul causes me to panic, let alone wilfully "distressing" it  :ahhh

I used to have a Les Paul copy though which had a multi-coloured, dribbled paint effect - that was quite cool - not sure where that went actually, I seem to remember giving it to someone

if i had a les paul dave i would wrap it up in cotton wool, but mines a Frankenstein of a guitar and i like a more abused look, but give me a year and it will be probably restored back to new looking , im just in this kind of mood at the moment, but les pauls look nicer all shinny  :tu:

The 80s. Shudder.

I couldn't stand Van Halen or any of those US "heavy metal" bands myself. Many of them could play, but I was more accustomed to Black Sabbath being a Brummie lad.

Did you ever go to the Club Lafayette in Wolverhampton, Dave? It might have closed before you were old enough   It's now a casino, but in it's day had all the bands from the 60's onwards.

:D

I never went to the Lafayette Chris, the only venues I really know in Wolverhampton are the Civic and Wulfrun Halls - been there a few times for gigs. I played in a couple of pubs in Wolves too a long time ago. The Coach and Horses rings a bell for some reason

I went looking for some old photos of my old white "custom" Les Paul copy but drew a blank. I did find a couple of snaps of me playing a different Les Paul copy in some practice session. I'd guess I was about 19 looking at the 'tache and dress sense :D

They haven't scanned too well, but they'll give everyone something to laugh at :D
