Hey it's not Saturday for most of us yet ya know :pok:  But isn't it Gerber month right now?  All these different themed days within themed months is ka-razay :ahhh  I love it ;)  I'll try to carry either my Swisstool or Spirit tomorrow, although I missed the Diesel today since I wasn't able to carry it.  I haven't carried the Swisstool for a while now as it really has proven to be too heavy in most of my attire.  It's a pity too, as I really like it :-[

Yup, it is Saturday here.
It sat in my jeans all day while riding my motorcycle in the rain.
On the end of the day the sun came and it was used to open some beers. :drink:

Need some ideas of what to carry for the rest of the week...

How about Sunday 'Ton' day - carry as many MT's, SAK's, torches, watches, fixed blades etc as you possibly can.

Or 'Pun' day, like 'today I am carrying my Eggsplorer', or 'Here is my Cidertool' or 'I am EDC'ing my Fieldmouser this morning' . This option has a very limited shelf life.

Unday Sunday - Not sure what this entails, but it definitely rhymes.

Or, and don't bite my head off for this one, 'None' Day Sunday, where you face the world WITHOUT AN MT.

Anyway MT'ers, food for thought.

SwissTool RS:(http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy277/JNieporteBF/16May2015/005_zpseq6x99qh.jpg)

Two used SwissTools:

The tip of the serrated blade (on the second one) was damaged, so I made it a sheepsfoot. The tip isn't burnt; the lighting just makes it look weird.

I have an idea I like for Sunday but maybe I'm being greedy. Should I open a thread for suggestions and see what others want?

Bought a reclaimed oak tabletop at the recycling centre today and have been sawing it down to size for an extra bit of horizontal space in our tiny flat.

I used the Spirit to wheedle out a few stubborn screws, and then used the philips to install a new towel rail in the bathroom.

I love these Swisstools!  I have never handled one, and haven't been able to find anyone in my area that has one, but I've carried Victorinox since 1983 and plan on getting one sooner than later!  Beautiful workmanship from what I'm seeing and hearing.

the Swisstool is indeed a great piece of work, but be warned that it is bulky and heavy, if that matters to you.  I loved mine, but I just couldn't get past the weight of it after a while.  The Spirit is much lighter, and just as versatile though.

At 290 grams it is not a real lightweight.
But Size/weight/functinality is excelent and i think together with the Spirit it is the best on the market.

My Swisstool X never really weighed me down. Only in thin sport shorts you notice that it is definatly in your pocket. But in jeans and pants i never had problems with it.

It is 50 grams heavier than the wave. But it is also slimmer than the wave.

It biggest competitor the Leatherman Supertool 300 is much bigger due to the rolled handles. It is also heavier.

I've heard that.  I carry a 95 vintage Leatherman Super Tool fairly regularly, but I notice the weight.  I've always been partial to the PST for the reason that it's so light.  I'm partial to Victorinox from all my years with my Huntsman, and am drawn to the quality of the Swiss Tools.  I'm in central Pennsylvania and Swiss Tools are rare animals in these parts.

Heavy duty, great quality, lays flat, has nice scissors and file. This one is going to get some use.  :)

Well drat, forgot about STS. Cost me a trip to the truck for this pic. Isn't the SwissTool more of a weekday thing? It is for me anyway, SwissTool X (in the sun this time).  :salute:

I like the landrover  :tu:

my dad also owns a landrover 109 v8.
Unrealible, slow, uncomfortable, you have to yell to eachother to talk while riding to get over the wind and engine noise, when riding spiders get out of all the corners and come crawling on you and some parts are bad designed like the slide windows where grass grows in the lowers slide rail.
I love them :ahhh. And the prices are rising every day :tu:
Landrover really had a great marketing team in what people want from a car.
I see that you have a defender, that is probably much better designed than the previous series.

Landrover club

Sadly the land rover  isn't mine, I can't afford one ,That's my work vehicle.
The new defenders are brilliant and find them fast and comfortable but I'm only small , Land Rovers are great but I do think there overpriced. But saying that if I could afford one I would buy one over most vehicles as I've driven them for years and I learnt to drive in a land rover on the farm  so I've always been a fan

Agree on the overpricing.
A 5 door defender costs around 80.000 euros.
It is not the cheap workers vehicle it used to be.

Back to the Swisstool. This is my beater.
And i love the regular SAK blade.
Excellent cutting performance, easy to resharp and useful belly and tip.
100 year old design and it still does the job.  :climber:

Yeah, cos staying on topic is what we do round here, right? ;)

It's a great little knife. Light, sharp and very tactile, it seems well made although the finish on the spring leaves a little to be desired. Pairs well with a Micra for a lightweight setup or as a clean blade with a larger multi. Gets as much pocket time as my SAKs now. :o

Man the SwissTool is a beast.  I get a kick out of this post.  2 very good friends of mine have carried one each for at least 15 years.  Those things are so beat up that I almost laugh out loud every time I see someone post about them being to pretty to use.  The incredible abuse they take almost inconceivable.  IMO there is no other full sized multitool on the market that could take the torture a SwissTool can take.  I just can't see it.....

This one hasn't seen the light of day in quite a while. Its developing a weird pattern from being in the sheath for so long. I don't mind though. I bet a coat of oil would even it all out anyways.

This morning I was going through a junk drawer looking for stuff to throw away and I came up with this little cell phone case that I used with a Motorola Star-Tac about 100 years ago.  My hand was over the trash can when I caught myself.  It is nearly the perfect size for the Spirit and the Huntsman and there's room to spare for a bit kit (if I had one), or a business card case or something else that size.  It also has loops on the outside for a pen or pen light or maybe a ferro rod.  It is pretty damn awesome to find something you haven't seen in 10 or 12 years and be able to put it back into use.  I'm very pleased with myself right now.  And I even remembered to carry the Spirit on Swiss tool Saturday!

Great pouch!!!!  :tu:

A near tragedy occurred last Saturday while I was wearing this pouch.  I was working at the Florida Renaissance Festival as I will for the next 6 weekends, and because I don't have pockets in my reenactment garb (I was dressed in 16th century sailor's slops for the pirate themed weekend) I was wearing cargo shorts under the outfit.  Since I had the shorts on I left the pouch attached to my belt under my garb.  At some point I happened to look down and see a red SAK on the ground near where I was working. Then I saw the green paracord fob and realized it was my own!  It had slipped out through the gap and I hadn't felt it fall because I was wearing so many layers.  My outfit is similar to this museum display picture except for the colors.

If you find an old cell phone pouch like this one, don't use it before you make sure your multi tools and knives can't fall out of it.  I will continue to use this pouch, but only after I sew an elastic band between the bottom and sides to close up the gaps.

Truth is i don't even pouch carry it. It rides my jeans pocket 7 days a week. Because the tool is relatively slim but long i barely notice its there. A Supertool 300 is much wider, the stx almost fits inside the handle of the st300 if i am not mistaken.

I carry the Spirit a lot in my pocket, but the STX is heavier and boxier, so not comfy for me. If it had a clip I would carry it that way, the Surge was much easier to carry with a clip than I expected. Wish I could figure out what Vic has against pocket clips...  ???

I agree about the pocket clips, i guess they find that it ruins the clean look of their tools.
I have seen some people mod a pocket clip to it. I am not sure if there is a way to glue a pocket clip to a tool.
The industrial glue these days is extremely strong, even car bodies are made of glued pieces.

I added a NiteIze clip to my STX and it is holding up great. It just uses some VHB tape and requires a nice clean surface (ie alcohol wipe) to adhere to. I didn't rough up the surface either. Been going for about 8 months of use now. :tu: Just make sure to let the tape set for the required 3 days for maximum adhesion.

I'm used to pocketing the Spirit now, so a clip would be nice, but is not absolutely necessary. There are some excellent clip mods, the latest (and cleanest) one I have seen recently is Hiraethus' here >> http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,64612.0.html . The adhesives these days are pretty amazing, so that's an option too, but I think a factory mounted one would be sweet, like the Sentinel has. A removable one like the Wave/Charge/Surge clip would be even better. Since Vic has already capitalized on the LM idea, it would be nice to see them evolve and compete a little quicker in the market.  :tu:

Yeah there tools are great but i sometimes think they are a bit scared of innovating their tools due to their heritage and of course their current tool still works great

I do really like the pocket clip by hiraethus, but i will probably void my baby's warranty   :D
I will keep a lookout for pocket clips that can be easily glued to the surface of the tool. I don't think sanding a piece of the handle will void the warranty.

You can probably get strong 2 components glue at automotive stores.

I have already come up with a plan. I have an old stainless springsteel metal plate laying around that comes out of the sole of a safety boot.
I might cut that to the right dimensions, bend it in to the shape of a pocket clip and use 2 component glue to glue it to the handle.
Although i dont really mind the pock clip i might try to make a prototype later this week to see if it is possible.

Wanted to carry the Spirit yesterday, but was interrupted by cellidor cravings and a new Pioneer X. Back to it now, and appropriately on STS. :)

The most challenging part of any tool challenge for me is letting the Spirit sit at room temperature for so long.

Disturbing if true, browsing the corporate websites I see only the SwissTool X model available, but still 2 versions of the Spirit. Maybe someone in contact with Vic people could confirm?

Yeah I do hope it was not true. But my friend bought a lot of SAKs there, include two ST Spirit because of the big discount for the two.

The 2016 catalog shows all the previous versions of the SwissTool and the Spirit, so I'm guessing they haven't discontinued any of them yet, but they also haven't improved or changed them. I still think a factory detachable pocket clip for the Spirit would be a good option, but I don't see this idea materializing anytime soon.  :-\

Pocketing the Spirit again for STS.  :tu:

2 years with the Spirit now, and it's still just Wow! for me. I haven't been this attached to a multi since my first SwissChamp. :)

Not this year, but the Swisstool has seen incremental changes over the years, like many SAK tools have. MultiMat posted some good photo comparisons a couple years ago (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,2463.msg497278.html#msg497278). There was also the relatively recent switch to the sheepsfoot serrated knife. You might think (maybe even hope) that coming up on 20 years they'd have something else, but it's still one of the best tools around. Victorinox is pretty conservative, and clearly the Swisstool is a long term investment for them. Now, if only they could get rid of the lock play.

I still think a factory detachable pocket clip for the Spirit would be a good option, but I don't see this idea materializing anytime soon.  :-\

Yeah, unfortunately Victorinox seems to hate pocket clips! I personally don't mind too much, but it would be nice to have the option sometimes.

Absolutely, changes like this would be good. In terms of in recent years of the three models of each, I haven't noticed any marked improvements. Actually in my case the earliest pliers were fine, '97 and '04 for the Spirit, as the additional beefing up and changing the pivot orientation doesn't affect the performance, again in my case, YMMV. The Spirit's only change was removing the shield stamp, while not essential to operation, I found it appealing (enough to use as my avatar). So ultimately, all of the introductory models are functionally identical to the most recent (by design). :)

Things like hollow scales, thinner tangs, and some of the other tool changes have offset some of the other improvements in other lines, but the most recent big improvement was obviously in the Pioneer range with the addition of scissors, those kinds of big changes are great, but rare. One other thing they could improve on the Spirit would be the handle alignment, my newest one, an RT has slight misalignment, and I hesitate to get any newer model Spirit than an '09 for that reason (identified by the handle stamp).

A couple months ago, I sent a SwissTool X in to Victorinox because it had too much lock play. The awl in particular was very bad, and wiggled all over the place. They sent me a regular SwissTool in return, which still has some play on half the tools (just not nearly as bad). Well, I already had a regular SwissTool which had no lock trouble, so this one became my outdoor beater. ::)

Today, I decided I'd had enough of the rotted old rail which created an elevation difference between two flower beds next to our deck. I used the SwissTool's wood saw to separate the rail from the chunk that was nailed into the deck. Then I was able to pull the rotted chunk off the nails, and took the metal saw to the two giant nails. This is the first time I've ever used the metal saw on a SAK. It worked, eventually, but it did dull the metal saw a bit and I would not recommend doing this on nails of this size. :)

Last week, I took the SwissTool to hang wire on a wall to support clematis and climbing rose bushes. Forgot to take a picture though, so here we go. This was fairly heavy wire, which the SwissTool cut better than the (old) Surge. It also did a fine job wrapping the wire around the eye hooks, as well as getting the hooks put into the wood siding. And my awl was secure enough to get those initial holes created so I could just screw them in by hand. :tu:

Used my original SwissTool to hang a storm door for my wife's parents. Awl to start pilot holes, knife to clean up vinyl shavings, and Phillips driver to start screws. Didn't take any pictures though. Too busy, and I didn't want my inlaws to think I was some weirdo who takes pictures of my tool to put on the Internet. :)

Or 2, since the PX-D came along the Spirit has a home in my tool bag with the SwissChamp and friends, so it's never far away. Since I gifted a couple away I am getting low on SwissTools!  :ahhh

Maybe I can recycle this pic for SCS!  :D

Where'd you find that version of the SOS pouch?   I'd like to get one to house my Craftsman and some other things.

This topic reminds me even more--I need a SwissTool!

Yes, you need a SwissTool (or 3)!  :tu:

The SOS pouch I found on fleaBay a while back, can't remember exactly who on there, but the seller had both the black leather one and this, it's rubberized fabric and very light compared to the leather one, I got one of each and preferred the green one.  :)

My two ST's, a '97 and a '98 X (user). I noticed there are a few small upgrades from the original to the following year, the floating pliers spring is thicker on the '98, creating more friction when opening and closing the pliers, the ruler stampings on the '98 are deeper, and the knurled lock release is more rounded. The pliers stamping is obviously different, but the '97 is also stamped with name and shield on both sides, the only year they did this. They both have the old style file/saw.  :salute:

Uhmmm, anybody offended when I post this item on a Tuesday? The idea came up on Saturday, so...

Well, In 2010 I visited the Eurostary exhibition in Paris. Victorinox had -as always- its own booth. The Vic salesman were very happy to announce that the French Army had indeed selected a Vic Swisstool as part of the Felin Future Soldier Program, and that Victorinox was very busy to fulfill the order.
At my question "do you have one for sale?" the answer was 'Yes". So I bought one (no discount!) and I also got a small SAK from the Classic Flag Series. 'France' of course ;)

Unfortunately the small knife was lost. I had no idea where it was. Untill two month ago. It had found its way to the bottom of my wifes bag. (In fact everything that is in a woman's bag is at the bottom.)  My wife explained that she liked the knife and since I have so many, she could use it very well. Okay, I admit, there is a kind of logic to her explanation.
So now you know why the slabs are a little bit dull and scratched.
Anyway, the two knives now happily stay together in my small collection.

Heated rear window and wiper delay, possibly early to mid '80's. If it were US mfg. I would be all over it.

Well done T it's a P6 Rover 2000SC. I'm not a collector but it was my grandfathers bought in 1973. When I was a kid I thought it was huge. Compared with cars today its actually not. I guess I've grown and cars have here too !

I'll dig out a better pic and post that later. It's been off the road for a few years but I put it back on last autumn and this is its first run after winter. I say run, I mean gentle motor round the lanes at 45-50 mph. And having a SwissTool to hand might just be necessary sometime!

Ours get about 8-10 hours of sun (when it's sunny  ) but it helps that the walls are about 6' high all around the garden (yard) and it creates a little micro-climate  :tu: :dunno:

Happy Swisstool Saturday! While many other MTs have a lot going for them, the Swisstool and Spirit IMO are the "best" MTs ever made by humans.  The design and manufacturing elegance, coupled with the outside opening tools and polished finish make these Swisstools a winner.  For many, the Spirit wins for EDC with the same tool loadout in a smaller and lighter package. But I'm willing to eat the extra weight of the Swisstool in exchange for the enjoyment of carrying this well-made, functional behemoth.

I used my Spirit XC today heavily. I redid a birdhouse, and had to use the pliers, saw, chisel, Phillips, and large slotted screwdriver.

It has more tools in about the same weight as my Rebar, but my Rebar is better with gloves, has better cutters (the stranded and hard cutters take up a lot of real estate on the Spirt's small cutters, and is a bit easier to use in dirty conditions).  Vic scallops can easily do PE jobs, so having just the infamous "butter blade" isn't a problem. I will say it's better at carving large chunks out of wood than a PE blade. Had to resharpen my Case Copperhead earlier this week from just one carving job, while the XC took over, and was unscathed.

I don't really do heavy duty tools anymore (though still, when I'm doing fencing work, I ALWAYS move up to the ST300 or full Swisstool), so 9/10 the Rebar or Spirit XC is enough.

I’ve had a Swisstool Spirit X for about a month now. Is it normal for the scissors specifically to be so difficult to pull out?  I can get them extracted but half the time it nearly rips my nail out.

I would say that is not normal.

Does it feel like it's rubbing or catching on something? Have you tried a drop of oil on the pivot?

Yes, they need a bit of a stronger pull  :salute:

Since I’ve done it yesterday and it was Saturday - I’ll also post it here

We’ve moved to a new place. New place - new challenges

Today started bright and early - at 6:30 AM to be precise - I woke up to some conversations that seemingly happened right next to our bed in our room After a few moments of careful listening I found a hole in the floor with a piece of a badly cut tube in it and I even could see our neighbor’s place through it. That’s how I could hear their radio or TV loud and clear for the entire night

No action shots, but I used my LM Wave’s saw to trim the excess tube and stuffed a hole with cotton - we’ll see if it’ll work tonight .

Later I’ve found a similar hole in the kitchen. But anyway.

This place may become a tad better for sleeping after I patched that hole, but it totally sucks as a workplace, which is a must for us at the moment. So I’ve found that Jysk has some cool tables at 50% discount, found one I liked and brought it home. Spirit X Plus took care of the rest. And my god I’m grateful for having at - I used quite a few tools during the assembly and the ratchet is absolutely priceless

Here’s the end result:

Want to know if you have termites in your garden? Stick one of those pinwheels down in the dirt.   :-[.  Kiddo pulled it out and lo’ and behold it looks like the dog gnawed on it.

Fixed it up with the spirit to move so he can still enjoy it.

I look forward to weekend projects with the Spirit X. Now that I have the Midnite MC and Explorer, I find they pair well. A bit of overlap in tool sets, but these are the ones I’ll primarily utilize specific to each tool. The combo tool is the exception, but recently I’ve pulled out the Explorer more to use it.

I like it. I am not sure I like the one hand opening on my MX clip as much as I thought I would. I seem to prefer the original version and like how it slips in a pocket with ease. I would add a clip to that version and have been looking at doing just that for my BS variants.

Never been a huge OHO proponent for multi tools. Love my Spydercos though.

Ordered this for my butter blade Spirit and am strangely excited about it.

Probably my favorite multi tool if additional accessories are not factored into the equation. Great Phillips driver, excellent selection of flatbladed drivers including a go small driver, outside opening tools, immunity to rust, blister pack opener/scraper and I could go on.

Yep time to ditch the Cybertool me thinks.

Now we are cooking.

Messing around with my Spirit a little bit this morning got me thinking while I don’t hate the butter blade something with a regular knife blade would be better. Maybe in black.

The Clip is awesome, they invented that in 2021? its for a tool they made in 1997 (98 with the new elongated hole) Those madlads are in it for the long game.
Btw. a little trick i invented, you can put a splitring on the end of the clip, work very well mit normal ones from a 91mm sak, this is an older picture with 15mm splitrings, the sak ones work better

A bit of pliers work. Kiddo did the ratchet and left me to do the final tightening. The nuts got a tiny bit gnarled but he was so adamant I use daddy’s tool and not his tool. Oh well they’re cheap IKEA that can be replaced.

On a side note: we have 2 of these couches and the covers are removable/washable. If you have small kids or pets these are a great idea. That’s what we were doing replacing clean covers.

That one above is a Police 4 Lightweight.   :salute:

But yeah the Endura may be my favorite.   I just counted up that I have 16 of them on my arsenal.

Police is even better.

Only back lock Spydercos I like, Endura and Police. Well don’t hate a Delica I suppose.

Hmm the Dragonfly is pretty great too.

Busy day for my Spirit X Plus

First I used it to unpack a box of herbal tea (no photo taken), then I cut some dill with the main blade

After that I discovered that a bathroom ceiling light that I only replaced a few months ago went almost completely dead

Used a ratchet to unscrew the chassis of the light from the ceiling and Spirit’s small flathead to disconnect the wiring

Will hopefully have that light replaced under warranty tomorrow

Back home for a few days (been absent for work reasons  ::))
Used the SwissTool to harvest some figs from the garden of Mrs Surge  :twak:

I think she'll have them with some Parma ham later  :dunno: (I'm not a fan )

Saturdays are great but sadly during challenge i try avoid carrying other MTs than challenge requires.
Have someone made SwissTool challenge for this year yet? (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240217/0aa86a811603c74b76c352a314244e2f.jpg)

Very nice!!! Love that BS option, Antti! They are harder to come by in the US as most sold here have the cap crimper in the pliers.
