Well, here's day one of the minimal SAK challenge. I love these 58mm knives for a companion to a dedicated folding knife. The thin blades slice through this thin cardboard like a laser. I guess this also counts for the stayglow badge as well. (This is my first attempt at badges, do I need a dedicated thread for each badge?)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170717/650653926f73e138d97a39f6de595806.jpg)

Day three! I snapped this photo to show off my favorite SAK, and one of my favorite locations in my hometown. The SAK, as I'm sure you all know, is the wonderful compact. It is, for me, the total package for a day to day use knife. It's got all the essentials without too much extra stuff that just weighs me down when I don't really need it. The backdrop is the floral clock at the Capitol building here in Frankfort, KY. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170719/13b9de1968abc574961349f45dd284dd.jpg)

Lol, what's wrong with requesting multiple badges in one thread? That's how I got most of my badges a couple years ago! (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,60366.msg1110017.html#msg1110017) Did you guys outlaw it after I did it or something? :P

This is still a factory edge that has been stropped on black and then green compound. Stropping is really incredible. As long as the edge isn't physically damaged it will make it scary sharp. I touch up my knives with the strop and basically never need to actually sharpen them unless I mean careless with the edge. Thanks!

Sure some have done that.
We would like to see people putting in some effort when requesting a badge.
Doing so in the appropriate sub forums also contributes to the site by generating content and conversation there.
At the end of the day there is no set rule on this and we are pretty accommodating.
Keep in mind the more you put in the more you'll get out.

This is still a factory edge that has been stropped on black and then green compound...
Perchance is there a layman's translation of that? It's foreign to me and I'd REALLY like to learn how to sharpen correctly.
Thanks for the information!

Sure thing! The knife hasn't actually been "sharpened" since it left the factory. I have a piece of leather with two different types of polishing compound. You use the compound to refine the edge and polish it. My best advice is to search YouTube for "knife stropping".

I'm on the road for day 6. Here is a hotel room pocket dump. I like to keep it simple when I travel while still being prepared. I'm planning to visit a pretty special place tomorrow, so hopefully I'll have a more interesting picture tomorrow. And either tomorrow or Monday I'll change up the knife so it's not the same thing every day.

For the past twenty something years, a Vic classic has been my daily companion. It's been too handy to not have and it's up to most tasks a urban dweller like me runs into. I've worn out a few by using the ever lovin dog poo outa them. Hey, it's a ten dollar pocket knife with many capabilities. I have some other pocket knives, but they get used now and then, and none of them are daily carry-just once in a while type knives.
(https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3734/10037376036_c03c1037af_c.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/ghYbcw)
When a classic is teamed up with a P-38 and a keychain screw driver, it will do a lot of daily jobs. Those two tools eliminate a full layer of a regular SAK.

Had to follow up...
After doing a little more reading from different sources, there is no one true home to bluegrass other than "Appalachia" with genre-defining artists coming from Louisiana to Massachusetts. Virginia has a BUNCH of the earliest groups... as well as KY, NC, TN & WV.
I went to a college called Appalachian State University in Boone, NC where traditional bluegrass is very popular and maybe I was being Boone-centric, so I apologize for my less-than-informed opinion that was partially in jest.

Interestingly, the bluegrass refers to an actual type of grass that grows here. When it gets tall in the fields and the wind blows it, it has a distinct blue hue. Most people from other states aren't aware of the origin of the nickname. And no need for apologies what so ever, but absolutely accepted none the less. Have a great night!

Uhhhh...is there a story or two that go with that knife.
It was part of a buy one get one free eBay sale basically. There was a lot of two oc pioneers for sale. I bought both to get the other one.

Interesting. Somebody clearly loved that knife the way Steinbeck's Lenny loved his mouse.

What you can't see in the photo was that the tip was significantly bent. I had to grind it down pretty significantly to get past the bend. I was able to straighten some of it, but most of it had to go.

I had indeed heard tale of the fabled Kentucky blue grass but have never seen it with my own eyes.
It grows quite well in Colorado...we had it in our yard growing up.

After a long night at work I'm finally able to close this out with day 30! Thank you all for your kind words and discussion! It's been a lot of fun. I figured what better way to finish this off than with my personal favorites!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170818/282a890f56594f37d184242c7bf72063.jpg)

Just came across this and a fun thread to read. Nice touch to get your son involved too, as he's obviously interested in this hobby (for some reason mine aren't). Congratulations on the badge!
