Title: Flying today.....
Post by: Nix on May 31, 2018, 01:07:40 PM
It’s 5:00 AM and thank goodness the woman who runs the small coffee concession showed up for work today (that’s not a given).

Made it through security without issues, but the Gerber Dime did get a hard look. No surprise there. The metal pen also got some scrutiny, but the TSA agent was very professional and polite, and everything got cleared.

Missing my Farmer X, but at least I’ve got some scissors and tiny pliers.

Now for the interminable wait for the boarding call........

Safe flight. Was the dime modded? Didn’t think the blade would have made it through.

Nice to see the TSA using some sense.  I would have thought however the Dime would have been binned.  Glad it made it thru.  Happy flying.

Sorry, guys. I should have said Dime Travel. It’s a blade-less version. 🤨

Ah, still tho glad it made it thru considering they seemed to be able to interpret what can and cannot go thru ( my thoughts from what I read not my actual experience ).

given that the last word is on the agent at the gate, I'm sure nothing is exempt of risk of being binned. I've heard of Gerber Shards, one piece tools, Hinderer pens and similar stuff not being let through  :P

Glad it was OK, and I hope you had a nice flight Nix!  :salute:

I don't fly but, from the stories I've heard, I'd go "naked", bought what I needed when I got there and then mail it back to me before returning...

It has scissors so would still get confiscated by Australian airport security

There's nothing more desolate than that feeling of not having a tool with you....

So, as epilogue, I will say that the Dime Traveler was a handy little companion.

I used the nail tool to clean a dirty finger nail and file a chipped nail. Essential? No, but nice to have.

I used the cap lifter feature once, to open three beers (there were three of us, I wasn't pounding back three beers  ;)).

I used the scissors a couple of times. Once to open a package of trail mix, and once to trim a stray thread.

Oh, I also used the pliers when visiting a museum. The museum issued small metal badges to show that one had paid admission. My badge didn't grip onto my shirt well and I used the pliers to crimp the badge onto my shirt more securely. Nice.

On the flight back, the Gerber Dime Traveler sailed through the security check point. Didn't even get a second glance. I was vaguely offended that nobody even checked to see if the flat driver had been sharpened.

C'mon! I'm a resourceful Mother-Smurfer! I can make a weapon out of a used toothbrush, show some respect!!!

So, Gerber Dime Traveler was a handy tool and was TSA compatible. I'm glad I have it, just in case I need to fly again.  :tu:

It isn't about the stopping. Its about the looking.

If you feel dirty and needing a shower inside as well as outside, it's just becuase you've gone through a very specific form of low theater with a Japanese name. And no, not kabuki.

You just might make the no fly list with that; self qualifying as a ranting resourceful Mother-Smurfer whose used toothbrushes are weapons of mass-desanitizing.  :pok:

 :D

Come to think of it I've actually had my toothbrush checked at security. Maybe they had heard about you?
