Title: Limited Edition Victorinox 2004 Climber
Post by: Sabahl on February 06, 2017, 05:08:40 PM
I've just dug out from storage my old Vic Climber and started wondering if it's actually collectible.  It's a limited edition which was produced to commemorate the joint anniversaries of Victorinox (120 years) and the now defunct model engineering firm Buck and Ryan (180 years).  Pics attached.

I can find absolutely no references to this knife anywhere on the net, including in Viictorinox's own listings sheets.  Are this sort of tie-in too common to note or has this knife just been forgotten over time?

Yes me too!  I was gutted when the one near me closed.  And delighted when I found they still had a shop in a surprisingly up-market part of London.  And then sad again when I looked it up just now and found that one's gone too.

On the basis of these first two replies, I'd say yes it is a collectible :)

Promotional and commemorative knives are very common.  Many, many companies have had them made and many still do.  Collectibility of these is very much in the eye of the beholder I think: whether the company or occasion is interesting to the individual collector.  But the tie-in with Victorinox's own anniversary certainly makes this one especially interesting.  Ones with metal inlays, like yours, are often considered higher quality and more desirable than ones with printed graphics.
