What is your Holy Grail? What is the multitool that you want in the worst possible way, but for whatever reason it is just beyond your reach.... It could be due to limited availablity, price or some other reason. It could be more than one item. I have a small list.
Chamberlain's Wrench - I've only seen two or three and the price is way out of my range
Triplett Wrench - Another semi rare multi type tool that I'll probably never own due to price.
Coleman Pro-Lock - Employee's edition with brass handles and leather sheath - I've only seen one and I failed to pull the trigger.
Plierench Pivot Pliers - No technically a multitool, from the maker of the Plierench - I've only seen two online, both in the hands of collectors.
The quest goes on. Someday.......
-
I'll play!
My Holy Grail is a Damascus Pioneer and Damascus Climber. Every time they come up, I can't afford them... :-\
-
I try to have obtainable holy grails, so I do not feel poor
for me it is the Traveller Lite. I have a real chance of getting one of these one day, if I could quit buying $5-$7 SAKs off ebay long enough to save for it.

I second that damascus Pioneer.

When I was younger, I wanted to get stinking filthy rich. At this point in time, I can comfort myself that 2 out of 3 ain't that bad. :D

:tu:

I would really, really love to get an original Green SOG Micro Toolclip someday to complete my set.. :dd: :dd:
Oh, and some more TiNi SOGs, and a Leatherm..... ::) :D
-
A model 1897 Elsener Officer's Knife in good shape.
Then I would never buy another SAK. Well maybe not Never...

Had to look this one up....Nice!

Yellow, Green and White Gerber MP600's (preferably with BO tool components 'coz they contrast better)
Al Mar 4x4 valade (the lovely engraved version)
Gerber 650 evolution (the military version)
LM orginal PSTs (Cabela's and Early Winters catalogue versions)
I don't rate my chances very highly, but a man can dream ......
-
I would say the Original Wave is mine. I've wanted it for a good while, and I've yet to be able to save up the money for a preferably NIB one. After I get a bit of money saved up, I end up spending it  I don't really have anything else I want to get, but I have considered the Pulse, and have recently been thinking about getting a stayglow scaled Explorer so that I can see what those scales are like.
-
What is my Holy Grail... hmmm...
Orange Alox Electrician maybe? :D
-
...have recently been thinking about getting a stayglow scaled Explorer so that I can see what those scales are like.
Totally worth it. The stayglow scales are durable, subtly grippy, and of course they glow in the dark... 8)
The only negatives are that plus scales aren't available in stayglow AFAIK, and that the screen-printed(?) Vic emblem has a tendency to wear off (too bad it isn't the inlaid metal emblem like the cellidor SAKs).
-
Because I am a noob and I don't know any better, the cheesy camouflage "Black Ice Trailmaster" is something of a grail for me. Not like I have gone to the ends of the earth to find one - there's tons of them for sale online, if money is no object. But an extra $100 just for black blades seems a bit bonkers.
And I am sure after two days I would find the thing incredibly ugly and embarrassing.
-
For originals, I still want a pioneer 2223.
For a mod, I want to remake a pioneer with all damascus parts, even the springs.
-
PST. :P :P :P

I was wondering if the texture was any different. I like the sounds of them being a bit grippy, but I had forgotten about the fact that the emblem can wear off. I don't think that'd be a deal breaker for me though. I think the glowing would be neat :D

MT: A Cabella's Camo TTi

That sounds like a  mod, Syph! But seriously, damascus springs? :D
-
It was the Swisschap XAVT. I wouldn't justify 400€ for a SAK I would never use. But MTO persuaded me that I could and I found it for about half price, so I have it now.

Ya any good steel can be used as a spring as long as you heat treat it just right.

Errrr ...... no! :nanadance:

One of mine was a NIB Vic Director, and I got one earlier this year. I realize they would have to charge a bit more for them, but it is a crime they stopped making those engine-turned SS scales. Other than that, nothing else springs to mind ATM.
-
Mine would be a mislisted good condition (no oversharpened blades, cracked scales, ...) Wengerinox SAK in the Forester configuration (well small blade instead of nail file of course ;) ) with a Suisse Crossbow shield preferably for around $30. :dd: One can dream, right? :P
-
An old Soldier from 1912 to go along with my Schmidt-Rubin from the same year. :dd:
-
More multitools are obtainable than not, but i guess i'd like to FIND a valid 1983 pst... One of the very first. I'd want to discover it, rather than purchase one already attributed and overpriced.

It's always gratifying to find a bargain :D

Whilst I do not have any multitool/knife that I feel I really need/want but cannot find (There are several that I would like to get if I accidentally saw them for sale, but I will not lose any sleep over it if I do not do so) there are certain multitools/knives that I would like to get for a reasonable price, rather than the prices that are usual for them.
An example of that is the LM flair, which I like as a tool and have a few but I do not want to pay the stupid prices they are selling for on eBay nowadays.
I did however manage to get a week ago one knife, that is widely available but I was not willing to pay the actual price they are selling it for (both new and used), for the right price for me (used). So, assuming it is in good condition, I am happy about that.
More when it arrives.

My holy grail was a camo charge tti w/ bo tools. I've slowly worked my way up. First Holt grail was a wave. Then a charge. Then a bo charge. Now finally the stars aligned and this is MINE. I'm stoked.
Does any one know exactly what camo charge this is?

Leatherman Charge TTI (Cabela's Sec3D version: camouflage handles, black blades) (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,1117.msg12622.html#msg12622)

My holy grail would be Victorinox bringing back the old cross for Alox models, and finally making a 93mm scissor backspring.
-
I'm really wanting any Syph custom

I got my holy grail for $25 at a pawn shop. LM Vista.

My Holy Grail is my Victorinox Champion which I own 30 years now.

Since the original red scales broke some years ago, I switched them to black Plus scales. And I added a mini screwdriver which I found on a street during a visit in Switzerland about 20 years ago.

The knife I'm referring to is a Victorinox Director:

While it was not the subject of my post, you are correct insofar as Wenger also made a Director:

I got mine used and wouldnt want it any other way. BO PST.

this is so hard to answer as i don't know what one or 2 items fit into this category for me at this point in time. i have some desperate wants but once i get them im quickly moving on to the next. right now the coolest thing i have is a busted up Japanese Riveted PST. even tho its pretty gnarly i like that it has Japan on the main blade and that it has survived who knows what.
i do like the signed by Tim Leatherman tools some members have. ok maybe if i had a PST signed by the man himself.

Necro revival.
I read over my post and since then I have several JPSTs. I'd still like to have on signed to my by the man himself.
I was thinking more on this and I feel the same with regard to the topic.
Anyone get closer to their grail? Anyone obtain their grail since last posting here?
-
At the moment I'd just like to know what an original 1983 Early Winters catalogue PST looks like. Then I'd know what I'm looking for (or I might even already own one, I have a few early odd-ball PSTs  )
I know what the Cabela's version looks like, but have never seen a picture of a production Early winters version (I'm assuming that like the Cabela's one, the production tools looked different to the photos of prototypes shown in the catalogues).
-
A birth year (1976) Soldier SAK in decent condition.
-
Since I like learning ALMOST as much as having, my current holy grail is the book jazzbass is working on. :dd:
other than that, I would love an old Vic Champion with a bail, in user condition is fine.
-
At the moment, probably MP650 Evolution full set... Never gonna happen :ahhh
+1 on the JazzBass' book :tu:
PS: and of course the ultimate Holy Grail, paracord skills of Stormdrane :D
-
A blunt nose diesel. A wave with an awl replacing scissors, outside scissors to replace serrated blade and combo blade for main blade. A juice sized gerber dime. A powerlock with all outside tools...........and the hunt continues.
-
72 Wenger Soldier. Think that's pretty much it
-
2011 soldier and a year of the rabbit knife
-
I'd like to revise my earlier post to include what Detron mentioned, Jazzbass book :ahhh.
-
1970 soldier for me :salute:

I still have an Early Winters watch from 1983.It was sold as the "Last Watch" because they guaranteed it for life and therefore it would be the last watch you would need to buy.LOL.
I'm not kidding.
I missed the Leatherman PST.

A minty, brass lined, Old Cross Farmer! :dd:

P.Moore T-Rex and Des Horn Imvubu
When it comes to multitools it's a BO Swisstool and a custom Farmer with scissors

I'd just be happy if the new 93mm Alox with scissors (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,59921.0.html) would be sold here in the US so I could buy one. A Pioneer with scissors and a Cadet with scissors would be awesome!
-
Chamberlain's Wrench - I've only seen two or three and the price is way out of my range
And another....
Vaco 7 inch plierench - I've only seen ads.
-

Boy, detron, do I know that story! +1
The only tool that I really want that's out of my reach is a Voyageur (the 84mm 2-layer version). But probably someday one will come my way and I'll be able to afford it.

I would say the Original Wave is mine. I've wanted it for a good while, and I've yet to be able to save up the money for a preferably NIB one. Nice thread necro Aloha :tu:
I have since obtained the holy grail I posted here, and while not technically NIB, it was barely used, if at all, and much cheaper than I expected to pay. No Pulse or stayglow Explorer though, but I don't really remember serious interest in either  I can't think of anything at this point that I would consider a holy grail, other than maybe a birth year ('78) Wenger SI.
-
An 1897 Officer's Knife.
A Farmer's Knife with a phlegm blade.
A 68mm Accountant.
A Fix It-Pro lab tool.
Numerous others, all in good condition and at a reasonable price.
Likely to happen? - No. But I can dream.
-
For now anyway, a Charge TTI with rebar pliers.
Dump the scissors and small bit driver and add an awl and the Surge's blade exchanger.

You should definitely put a Pulse back on your list, I think it would be right up your alley.

I have gone back and forth on the Pulse several times, but have yet to end up pulling the trigger on getting one for whatever reason  My experience with the ST200's locks sort of turned me off from the Pulse though I think. I actually sort of like the locks, but don't like the looks of them and how they interfere with the otherwise sleek features. Not that I wouldn't give the Pulse a shot should I find one for a decent price ;)
-
The Large WTF. Brad from Tactical KeyChain created a batch as a Kickstarter award and it's not available. I need an open wrench like that.
Tool Pen mini – good gracious, that's one expensive set of screwdriver when I just need like 4 bits altogether. But if Santa dropped one in my lap I wouldn't resist :D
Leatherman Raptor -- I could stomach the cost of this once but I can't be sure whether it'll be confiscated or not at any travel so it's out. I would pay good money for a TSA compliant folding medical shears but only the shears, those cutters on the Raptor kill it :(
-
I actually have another grail item I may have originally mentioned-my birth year Soldier, '78. I now have one on the way thanks to M0rkoni :D

I think I've tried every multitool I want to try (out of the ones I know about), have gotten rid of most of them as time went by, and am just picking out the choice users from what's left. There was a time when I really really wanted a mint Gawain, but that fad has passed now :D
I think the only thing I that would really make me sit up and pay attention, is an old Sheffield made knife with scissors, that's still sound enough to be a user. I have seen one up for grabs locally, but it's late 19th century, and whilst functional is more of a collectors item than a user
-
I think I'd like to have a near-mint Victorinox Passenger from the early 80s, like my granddad had, until my brother and I lost it for him. :-\

My holy grail has changed a few times. I remember back when it was a Technician. Got one. Then it was a limited run (X/50). Got a handful. Then it was a Sebenza. Got one of those. I don't really have a holy grail at the moment. Maybe a mint "real" 2223. >:D

Not that very rare but very expensive:
http://www.couteaux-du-soldat-suisse.ch/J02/index.php/en/product/489-r1726-wenger-1961-74-model
-
None that I am aware of. There are pieces I'd like to acquire and that's all.
-
Now that my birthyear SAK is on the way, I think at this point, my only possible remaining grail item would be an old cross red Pioneer. Preferably either NIB, or barely used, but I know those are hard to come by for an affordable price. Someday I'm sure I'll find one, but I just hope I'll be able to get it when I do. Also, in order to be able to get one at some point, I should probably lay off any further purchases in the meantime. I was fortunate to be able to get the '78 SAK, especially after telling my wife I was done getting more of these things for a while. Once I get all my MTs/SAKs out of storage, I will likely have a for sale thread to help fund an OC red Pioneer.

Cool birth year score !
I wonder how hard it would be to find my birth year '67

Thanks Steve :) Not sure how easy a '67 would be to track down. The '78 took me over two years to get, but I wasn't trying too hard to find it either.

Well I've finally managed to get my one other grail item, a brand new OC Pioneer  According to the seller in Ebay, it was new old stock that was left over in a display case. It is indeed brand new as far as I can tell, and I love it. This is the first item I've gotten that I've actually had the feeling that I shouldn't carry it. Now it doesn't really work as a carry item for me anyway, but would be just fine paired with my Swisscard once I get it. I just don't want to mess up these scales. I never really intended to carry one if I ever got it, so it won't bother me if I don't. I love the rear scale without that foolish engraving plate messing up the looks. I don't have a clue how old it is though. The openers are the non polished version, but the blade and awl are polished. Victorinox Switzerland Stainless Rostfrei on the blade tangAnyway, here are some pics :)

My holy grail multi tool is an early Cabela's PST with hollow knurled screws and "Leatherman USA" etched in the blade :gimme:. I saw one similar sell for $449 on eBay recently :o.
-
My grail items tend to be whatever tool is best for me for a specific job or setting. I never know what that is until I find it .... or build/mod it. I don't have any specific things that I consider grail items.... thankfully :D
-
My holy grail will be impossible to ever find and I've accepted that.
It is the limited Wenger Ranger that was given to the Alinghi Race Crew. Wenger created a special version that incorporated a rescue cutter.
I think only 12 were ever made
That's my holy grail!

BO Minitool
Same here, though I'm in no hurry to get one. Its just a missing piece from my Leatherman BO arsenal.

My feelings the same. Most Leathermans in the collection have their BO mate. Really I own my grail tool, a BO Supertool. The mini would just be icing on the cake.

Still no changes for me. Grail item would be Mr Leatherman himself signing a tool of mine. Not sounding arrogant but some of the items I like I could afford, I just cannot justify spending the money on them. I'm still much to frugal to spend dough on such things.
-
I'm not sure if I've got one. There's nothing rare, expensive or unusual that I really, really want. There are things that I'd get if money was no object, but I think I'd only be buying them because I could, not because I had to. I like cheap, standard and well-used tools, which seem to be easy enough to find.

While expensive certainly not unreachable.
It would be neat to have a knife made by a custom knife maker, a "one off". I wouldn't say grail item but neat no less.

Agreed, but if I went there I would go the extra mile and want to work with the knife maker. Not in the work-shop, that would be catastrophic, but in the design stage... you know so it fits me. That, or one from André Perret... damascene CyberTool anyone :D

No damasteel for me. Some patterns do look nice, but I still prefer a plain homogenous steel

Kinda what I was thinking as well. I'm sure there are smaller knife makers who would be interested and not want truck loads of money either.

As I've recently started actually collecting instead of a bunch of knives/multitools I alternate between, I've formulated a list.
Any 100mm Soldier. I'd really like a 1941 one, since that knife saw WWII. Any from Wenger, Victorinox or the "minor cutlers" is fine.
Victorinox Officer Knife--'Cause it's the one that started it all!
Soldier Model 1961 w/Waffenkontrol stamp.
SOG Pocket Power Plier and some no-name German pocketknife engraved with the post 1994 American LaFrance logo. I found these on the Wayback Machine when browsing an older version of the American LaFrance site. I found these on a version of the site dated 2001.
Zippo money clip--printed with the American LaFrance "Bar N' Bird logo. This dates to the 1970s. American LaFrance operated here in my town (Bluefield, VA) from 1986-1994. Thus, I want these three, as unlike the cheap $5 Chinese tactical knife they gave away a few years ago, since they are good knives and tools.
Soldier Model 1961--Year 1996 (my birth year)

By pure unexpected chance, and even better, cheapish. Just have to wait for it to turn up at the parents place :D :mail:

You and me both. I think the River of Fire Damascus was a limited run though. Good luck actually getting one for 615.
Lots of grails for me at the moment. A few mint OC items and 2009 heritage limited edition would probably be right up there at the top though

The ones I was seeing were $250+ then things changed. Bought a nice EDC off Steve and two minty ones for around 125 ea. I already had an Old Cross Farmer but not a "minty" one.
Here's the other two plus my old one.

Just went back and looked. It appears there were only 10 large Sebenza, 17 small Sebenza, and 17 Mnandi River of Fire damascus blades made as part of a special run. Happy hunting.
Nice OC Farmers SAK Guy

My holy grail would be the very first edition of a 84mm 'tourist'- should have 4 pins and be produced around 1900, the smaller brother of my profile pic. If someone came across that knife, I'd be most grateful ....

I wouldn't mind a birth year soldier/SAK, but from what I understand I am pretty SOL.
'74 is a rare beast.
Awiiiiise zombie thwead
And, today achieved.
By pure unexpected chance, and even better, cheapish. Just have to wait for it to turn up at the parents place :D :mail:
Which '74 did you get? Victorinox produced a very limited number on 1974 and I don't think any were supplied to the military- at least not officially. Wenger provided most of the military requirements that year and I believe a third company (Rothlisberger if I'm not mistaken, which I very well could be) also produced some.
I have an AMEFA KL74, a 1974 Camillus Demo knife and two '74 Wenger SI's- one with a Waffenkontrol stamp and one without.
If you found a 1974 Vic then that is something to be very proud of!

It is I believe, a Wenger. Advertised on a local auction site back home as a 'Swizz army knife'. It is still in the mail to my parents place, should arrive anytime now. It will still be a couple of months before I get my hands on it, no current plans to fly over for a visit.
-
A 1974 Wenger is certainly nothing to sneeze at either. Neither of mine were very easy to get a hold of, and represent a lot of years of wheeling and dealing.
Congratulations on being a hell of a lot more efficient than I am! :P
I hope we will get to see pictures when you get it!

Mine would be an '83 PST (which I actually had, my Dad's, which we bought for him but I lost years later), or a SAK that was actually on the MacGyver show.

My Holy Grail is a good set of pliers with a great blade that is at least 3.5inch, all other tools are optional, as long as there are not too many because I want a fairly light tool.
I have not looked too terribly hard but the Leatherman Skeltool is sort of what I am looking for but definitely without the caribiner on it. I am also on a tight budget, so that doesn't help. Has anyone seen my Holy Grail?

Mine would be a bit different than most of ya'll's.
Savage 24C, they haven't been made for 25 years? 30? They were a combo gun, 22LR/20ga, 18" barrels, and about 6 pounds. Cylinder choke so you could run slugs thought them, even though it meant your patterns were all short range. If I could find one that was well regulated (sometimes the barrels don't hit to quite the same vertical plane) and I had the money, I would snatch it up as fast as I could fill out the paperwork. Not the best at any one thing, but it will work for most everything in my neck of the woods if you've got the right mix of ammo on you.

Umm, any MT that is not for free?.. :-[

I'd love to own a Robert lessard custom titanium SAK. But I dont think I would be able to bring myself to pay the price (for a SAK) literally or phsychologicaly . But boy are they fantastic!

Right Now it would be a Benchmade 940 and BO Swisstool Spirit. The Benchmade isn't terribly expensive, but I just can't justify spending $150+ on another knife after buying a ZT. And I just can't find any BO Spirits. :-\

+1 on the Swisstool BO.
Got mine yesterday and already can't imagine what I'd do if I suddenly didn't have it no more.
-
Still no changes for me. Grail item would be Mr Leatherman himself signing a tool of mine. Not sounding arrogant but some of the items I like I could afford, I just cannot justify spending the money on them. I'm still much to frugal to spend dough on such things.
No change for me. I'd still like a signed LM from the man himself. This would be my grail item. I was thinking about what I'd buy or want to buy when the thought of this thread came to mind.
I cannot think of anything beyond what I've already mentioned.
Anyone obtain grails you havent mentioned?

My Holy Grail is the one tool that is so light you can carry it in your pocket and not know its there, but has every tool I will ever need. It is so small that it takes up virtually no pocket space. It is also the strongest tool in the world. Unbreakable, corrosion proof, and fire retardant. In addition to all your standard tools, it is equipped with a measuring tape, level, 100 feet of paracord, power jigsaw, butane lighter, full size axe, A pop up tent, spare underwear, toilet paper, and a built in projector connected to MLB.tv and NFL TV (with Netflix and Hulu capability of course), the nuclear football, my financial advisor, a month's supply of fine scotch, and the map to the lost Mayan treasure. Oh yeah, its affordable too!

Grail tool? As a collector, a few would be on my shortlist. I don't make smurf for wages, so there are a few tools I can't pay big bucks for right now that I would like to get in the future at some point.
Gerber MP650.
Kershaw A100.
SOG Paladin PT-540.
Leatherman Vista.
Victorinox XAVT.
There are a few more, but these would be the ones I'd like first. After those, maybe a Juice Pro or K4. Maybe SOG Paladin PT-525.
-
I have a Sheffield A100 clone that I modified with some different tools. I've been using it quite a lot in the garage lately, between welding and grinding tasks. It's a decently good tool, but would be better with more blunt-nosed pliers. I'm interested in trying out the real Kershaw A100 one day now that I've gotten used to the clone!
Charles.

I've bought everything on my ",To-get list" so far, up until the tools I listed here. I just have trouble with the really pricey stuff. Those are just Grail tools. I have so many great tools, I am pretty happy. :multi:
I found the Crunch, Recoil, JPST, one Wave, and Flair(and a bunch of common stuff as well) at the store I work at. Maybe the rarer tools will pop up one day. :)
-
I would really, really love to get an original Green SOG Micro Toolclip someday to complete my set.. :dd: :dd:
Oh, and some more TiNi SOGs, and a Leatherm..... ::) :D
Maybe I have a green one for trade... I check it...
-
I have owned a very wide range to tools, and most of them have since found new homes elsewhere, but I kept the ones that were the best fits for me.
As regards pliers based tools, I have no more yearnings for anything else. At least half of what I own are modifications, which I have tailored to suit my own tastes and preferences, and I managed to get everything I wanted before pricing started shooting upwards.
I'm totally satisfied with my array of traditional and modern folders too. I have a healthy assortment to choose from, and there's no "gaps" that need filling. Whatever the day has in store, in terms of activity or location, I have something to suit.
The only movement or change that I can see moving forward (other than selling off stuff that I haven't got round to yet), is Swiss knife modding. I have everything that I want to keep unmodified, and have most of the parts that I need for my six planned mods. These are rather complex projects, and will be quite labour intensive (not just simple tool changes), and will be done gradually over the months and years ahead, as time and health allows.
So my grail items cannot be bought, they must be made, and made by me. That's what gives them the added value over commercially available items. There's a feeling of pride in using something that you put together, which cannot be had from something you just handed over beer vouchers for.
-
For knives it would be a SOG Fatcat, Cold Steel 4-Max, and a Benchmade Adamas Auto in black.

Is it weird that after five minutes of holding one I really want a Case Sodbuster? I currently carry a multitool and a 91mm waiter... and I love using the waiter. But I LOVED using that sodbuster. I mean it’s not particularly expensive. It’s just got plain plastic scales. It’s not even sharpened to a very fine edge — just 25 degrees according to my lansky. But damn if I don’t like using it quite a lot.
Charles.
-
Not strange at all. We like what we like.
-
I've modded some tools but theyre still just LMs. Which is why I still say having one signed would be cool. I'd love to make a fixed blade. I said having one made to my specifications would be close. I change my mind. Making one would be awesome. Making something from a hunk of steel then adding handles. Not sure thats entirely out of the question.
-
A „Spyderco 25th Anniversary Delica“ would be great...

Thanks to CeHo, I will be crossing one "grail tool" off of the list soon. :woohoo:

It might seem a bit strange but I've wanted a Rebar with two SE blades. I have the Rebar and the blade out lack the tool to change the blade out.
:(
-
My grail wants are pretty simple I guess. I just don't have the money to spend.
LM Flair
LM BO Supertool 200
LM Pulse (does it even come in BO?)
Victorinox Drifter Alox
Victorinox Astronaut
I'll probably end up getting 1 or 2 sooner or later but getting them all is highly unlikely for me....

I have own 2-3 (I'm not a SAK expert) smaller 4-5 blade versions of the SAK in the past, but they were never a serious have to have with me item. The Swisschamp that I have (posted here (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,79489.msg1801361.html#msg1801361)) I have had for a long time. I haven't another SAK since getting this one. I have added Leatherman and Gerber multi tools to my list of goodies and have a few knock off multi tools floating around somewhere. So I would have to say the my 'Holy Grail' would be the SwissChampXAVT (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000QGF986/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000QGF986&linkCode=as2&tag=smart0ef8-20&linkId=RK25QH5XWMLW4O2X[/url) While it is a large SAK, I would love to have a Victorinox Swisschamp XAVT just to have and hold and show off. BUT, I don't think my wife would be happy with trading her car payment money for a SAK. I might need it to build a survival shelter after that happened! :woohoo:

The XAVT is on my grail list as well. I love my XLT (in SilverTech scales), but would love to pull an XAVT out of my pocket when someone needs a screw tightened(but not a job big enough to scratch the precious[XAVT]). The XLT is quite a bit as it is, but more tools=better.. :D

My grail knife is a Classic with the blade opening away from the keyring, and a Camillus electricians knife with the screw driver removed, to make it a single layer. Those would make me happy.

Those special Runs on the Benchmade 940 and 941...
The ones with Damascus blades, or titanium scales
These were the knifes I was drooling over when joining the german knife scene years ago...the most beautiful and practical EDC knifes I have ever owned (had a green 940 which I gave to my Girlfriend, she loves it), in addition to the 710, a classic knife I sadly have never owned.
Wish I had the money and german knife laws were'nt that stupid regarding OHO blades.

I've finally been able to acquire the main grail items I have been lusting after these last few years.
A Peter Atwood R25, Wenger Titanium Ueli Steck edition, and a Vic Voyageur.
My next grails will be the Wenger Esquire Titanium 80% serrated (though I would also like the 100% serrated version), the Wenger VIP and the Wenger Nature series knife that just has the straight ribbing with no animal image.
In the meantime I've purchased a Wenger PTC and some titanium scales to make myself a Titanium PTC ( I may have a slight titanium addiction).
I suppose a red ribbed Voyageur would also be pretty neato but I also like being able to pay rent so that might not be realistic.

Gerber MP650. - Found mint condition.
Kershaw A100. - Found NIB.
SOG Paladin PT-540. - Found near-mint condition.
Leatherman Vista/Hybrid. - both found NIB
Victorinox XAVT.

Getting there. Gotta take a break from buying for a bit, but will finish that list soon. Bought a Gerber Flik Fish NIP today on eBay(for half of what they were selling for last year) and am in the hole with the MT funds, as well as just ordered brake rotors and pads for my car. :ahhh
There are others to replace the old list with though. Just like the Vista led to the want for the Hybrid, the PT-540 has led to the want for the PT-525. Now with the Flik Fish on the way, I'll be looking at finding the MP600 and MP400 Fishermans pretty soon.
New updated "top 5" grail list:
SOG made Paladin PT-525.
"Pocket Survival Tool" marked PST.
Gerber MP600 Fisherman.
Gerber MP400 Fisherman.
Victorinox XAVT.

Likely ain't happening, unless Emerson makes some kind of commemorative. And even then, I probably wouldn't be able to afford it. Unlike the Victorinox Master Craftsman, which was a run of the mill late 1970s Master Craftsman ordered by NASA, this one wasn't. Part of an order of 30 units in 1999, plus 4 prototypes. The cutout in the tanto blade is to open the rations.

Found my holy Grail, what a cool tool
Never saw anything like that ever before. Really interesting set up. Screw on blade, survival kit in handles, holes so the blade can be removed and lashed to a stick to make a spear? And from what I saw about that model online, there's a sharpening stone glued to the back handle. Seems like it would make sharpening weird.

Hope you can find some good deals on those beauties, eTrip! :tu:
-
Found almost everything on my earlier lists, except the Vic XAVT. :ahhh
But, those are easy to find, so it isn't a huge deal.
The new list is comprised mostly of tools needed to finish some sets.
1. West Marine Sailing Tool(the SOG made tool based on the PowerAssist with the Marlin spike instead of SE blade).
2. Paladin PT-525(made by SOG). They don't fetch a lot, but fate has it against me getting one, because I never have the money when one pops up for sale(my fault for not managing spare cash right though).
3. Gerber MP400 Fisherman(same issue as previous, but they come up for sale less frequently).
4. Pre-1985 Leatherman PST - non-Japan(already have two JPSTs). Probably the most costly of the grail tools listed.
5. Victorinox XAVT(carried over from original list).
But, as always, patience will win out(hopefully). If someone had told me back in 2017 that the collection would have so many rare tools, I would have declared them crazy. Like the Gerber Multi-Lock Trailrider, MP600 Cable Cutter, Multi-Lock FPRs(BN and NN), Multi-Lock Maroon Prototype, MP650 Evolution, Gerber Grappler, Gerber FLiK Fish, Leatherman Vista(and Hybrid), Leatherman Charge Ti(mint), Paladin PT-545, SOG PowerAssist(US version) EOD w/C4 punch, etc. etc.
-
I’ve had so many knives that I’ve wanted, but a while back when I found out that certain things can be done to a sak I sooo wanted a custom, especially after feeling a alox for the first time!
So one day the Mrs said to go ahead and have it made, so it did! That’s my pride and joy, I rarely even carry it, even when I do the sheath has a clip so if it was to open and fall out of the sheath it would dangle from the piece of paracord, just a little over protective!
I’m currently working on one with similar tools but is a tad smaller, yet I won’t be so worried to carry it or scratch it! That is if I ever finish it.

A Limited Edition Vic Spirit RT is my holy grail. Look it up, its a Spirit X but with black handles and an "your companion for life" engraving on the blade. Mainly I want it because:
a) I love Spirits and
b) Already have the LE Climber RT and Master RT, which are the 91mm and 111mm pieces of the RT Series, so I just want the full trifecta!
-
Oh yes the Spirit RT is a beauty. I sold my Master RT and still have the Climber. I wish I had a few set!
-
I only have the Spirit RT.
Never really looked for the others but I'm sure glad I got my hands on the RT :dd:

I guess I should bump this thread as I got a few items I wanted to try. I got a GECs that has become my favorite, the Pemberton. I also won a wonderful Bark River a while ago as well. It was one I very much liked from the first iteration. Bushcrafter in 3V. I also got a Griptillian 555 that I had wanted a long while ago. I picked up a Erik Frost Mora as well. A little work and its in great shape to take out and use.
I don't think one particular item is my grail but the items above are items I had wanted to get into my hands and thankfully I did. :woohoo:
-
Recently, I’ve received a couple of things I’ve been wanting.
First, I was wanting a full custom big locking folder. I was fortunate to find a winner: a Morrish Daedalus in Ti and 3v.
Second, I had been looking for an early Chris Reeve Professional Soldier for several years and came across one NIB.

Congrats. This is one SAK I had to try again. Early on I was enamored with the Swisschamp to pay much attention to the Champion. I gave away both I had and never looked back. A member kept posting about theirs and other chimed in as they do and my interest was piqued again. I picked one up in nice used condition and carried it to work. How did it miss the wonderfulness of this SAK the first time around? I was lucky and picked up a second also used but in better condition. I now carry one to work everyday and one for my garden and around house use.

Never noticed this thread before.
This is easy.
One R. W. Lovelace fixed blade.
One original WWII John Ek combat knife.
One Michael Walker custom folder
Together these comprise the Trinity sitting inside my holy grail of cutlery.
-
Victorinox 125th Anniversary Special Edition soldier knife. Someone offered for 600 usd.
-
Bumping this thread to see if anyone has got grail items they want to post about?
-
An original Cabela's Leatherman PST. Even if I was lucky enough to find one for sale or auction, I doubt I would be willing to pay the high price it would demand.
-
For a fixed blade, that would be gen 1 Hackman bayonet for Valmet 62. I've only ever held it in my hand twice, very hard to come by.
For a folder, I would love to get my hands on a Spyderco Kiwi. It just looks adorable.
And for a Multitool - I know it when I see it, so just to be safe I get them all
