That's where an RV and staying single would be a useful combatant....  I'll only really have school loans to pay off; living frugally, and probably with my parents for a couple years, will help me get out of the debt I'll gain so much quicker. :)

I just have a mortgage that I am waiting for maturation next year. Got enough to pay the small amount left from an investment. Just smarter to keep paying the mortgage then to pay it off right now. After that, foot loose and debt free.

That was my method too for many years, which is part of why I had such a b*tch of a time buying a house.  My advice?  Get a credit card, use it for gas/grocery purchases only, and keep a low balance that you can pay off easily enough if the worst happens.  It also makes a great emergency tool if something happens to your car, house etc, or you need to rent a car or fly somewhere.

If you don't think you can get a credit card, scrounge up $1,000 and apply for a secured card, then get a real card a year later.  This will save you some major headaches later in life, like finding yourself at 35 years old trying to get credit for the first time so you can buy a house.

As for the RV, well IO thought about that when I was single... that or a houseboat, but where I live I'd spend twice as much as I would on rent trying to heat the thing six months of the year, and I'd probably end up freezing to death at some point.

If only life was that simple though.

My parents always tell me that cash is king, not platic... If you can't afford something, don't buy it.  :)

A great thing to be told.  :tu:  Sadly though, you will come across things that you just have to buy and that's where that theory goes out of the window.

Especially if you ever want to buy a car or a house.  Unless you are rolling in cashola like Paris Hilton, you get the joy of debt.

Unless of course you want one of these fine automobiles, in which case all you need to do is search through the couch cushions to find enough funding!
