Title: Idea's for a UK meet competition?
Post by: Mike, Lord of the Spammers! on March 26, 2009, 10:15:00 PM
Ok rather than get loads of little bit's and pieces like last year, I thought I'd do a competition for a bigger mystery prize :)

But what should we do for a compo ???

The prize can be the bandages... :D

PS: Just became a Hero member... I should post less... ::)

Me liking that idea >:D

Especially as I'm a skinney sod so stand a better chance of not having to part with the prize :D

I am sorry Dudes and dudesses, but clearly this competition is over.  Surely none of you actually think you can beat me in a comp like this.  I train up to 75 angry  :police: a week and they all get to beat on me  :viking:

Its also MY TURF  ;)

Might as well give me the prize now

(Is my psychological mind trick working on you yet :pok:)

I think we should have a "Who's got the most Leathermans" competition. And Bob isn't allowed to enter. Well he is, but he has to bring all of his tools with him to be eligible.

Yeah - that's it.

Curses! There's not enough time left to charter a transatlantic freighter to bring them across. :(

It would be cool if you guys had some multitool tests.. Like testing saws, bottle openers, can openers, and things like that..

Ok I think Nikko might be on to something so how about a sort of Multotool triathalon :)

Say cutting through a specific amount of rope, then sawing a bit of 2 x 4, then finishing up with wiring a plug or something :)

Winner win's a lightly used Wetterlings Hatchet :)

How about also having someone with a CS knife (you know... those cutting 1'' manila rope in one blow... ::)), a Lapplander, and a couple of pliers/screwdrivers doing that along you guys as a benchmark/yardstick? That would be interesting...

I do, and I get on pretty well with it. But I'm not experienced enough to know what I need to do to get an edge on this blade. If I carry on it will only be about 1/8" thick (and stiil blunt), so I think I'll get some expert help if I can!

it always helps to rewatch the DVD for me ;) but I would put a 30 degrees back bevel on it first with all 4 steps then do all 4 steps with the 40 degree bevel and as for how many times I would try 50 times for each step in the initial sharpening for the 30 degree bevel then some less in the 40 degree :tu: just takes trial and error with the Sharpmaker  but someone more experienced than me would know better :D of course if you have any luck with that I would strop it at the end about 50 times both ways to put a polish on the edge :)

To be honest, for light work like fixing a toaster, most of my Gerbers could hack it I reckon!

I think the problems I've read about all seem to be using the Suspension for heavy jobs - I wouldn't want to be using one for freeing seized bolts for example. (You'd be needing a Bear for that  >:D). Hmmmm. Bear.

There's an argument about comfort and practicality that would make me choose LM by preference, but I think most half-decent multis could manage light-duty tasks. Even the Suspension!

What? You expected different? Pfft.

For me, I don't mind a few trials and such, but I'll be quite content pawing stuff and chilling out. A few little test would be fun definitely, but the main thing for me is to meet some old and new friends, see some new tools and blades, have a few beers and enjoy the open air.

Oh and shoot stuff :D

I'm actually with Dave on this one.  I agree a competition would be fun, but I'm more of a chatter and a drinker (and a smoker hope there are no restrictions on your site Nick  :o ).  I bagsy filming it.  :tu:

I bagsy filming it.  :tu:

What i thought would be an awesome idea would be to set up a camera on a tripod and have it take a picture every 30secs or so and then put together a timelapse video of the whole meet up. But that would require having either a video camera and just film it then take images from the film or a laptop and a webcam or a camera that can be controlled via software (or an intevelometer!)

......but that might just be me!! :D

Filmings fine by me, but I'm fairly certain Nick won't be able to accomodate us, bearing in mind where the venue is :-\

I'm sure some areas will be fine, but obviously Nick is the guy we need to speak to and he is currently having computer problems.

You oscillate its tits a lot  :D
