Ok rather than get loads of little bit's and pieces like last year, I thought I'd do a competition for a bigger mystery prize :)
But what should we do for a compo ???
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Running_the_gauntlet
The prize can be the bandages... :D
PS: Just became a Hero member... I should post less... ::)

Me liking that idea >:D
Especially as I'm a skinney sod so stand a better chance of not having to part with the prize :D
-
I am sorry Dudes and dudesses, but clearly this competition is over. Surely none of you actually think you can beat me in a comp like this. I train up to 75 angry :police: a week and they all get to beat on me :viking:
Its also MY TURF ;)
Might as well give me the prize now
(Is my psychological mind trick working on you yet :pok:)
-
I think we should have a "Who's got the most Leathermans" competition. And Bob isn't allowed to enter. Well he is, but he has to bring all of his tools with him to be eligible.
Yeah - that's it.

Curses! There's not enough time left to charter a transatlantic freighter to bring them across. :(

How about who has the most ovaries? :D
-
It would be cool if you guys had some multitool tests.. Like testing saws, bottle openers, can openers, and things like that..

Don't forget the great bottle opener test we did last year :D

How was the scoring done? Speed, form, and originality? :D

Hah! :D That reminds me of the other competition they did last year! :D

How about who has the most ovaries? :D
Wait a minute, I'll pull a dozen or so off the shelf... :o

With all the bean tins and beer cans likely to be lying about you guys should be able to build something nice...if only you had tools with you... :P

Pathology lab. I can certainly beat you on greatest weight too.

Ahh, that's OK then. I was at med school for 3 years so I'm quite used to seeing pickled bodyparts! (just not mine - well, I suppose my liver has had a rough time of it) ::)
-
Ok I think Nikko might be on to something so how about a sort of Multotool triathalon :)
Say cutting through a specific amount of rope, then sawing a bit of 2 x 4, then finishing up with wiring a plug or something :)
Winner win's a lightly used Wetterlings Hatchet :)
-
How about also having someone with a CS knife (you know... those cutting 1'' manila rope in one blow... ::)), a Lapplander, and a couple of pliers/screwdrivers doing that along you guys as a benchmark/yardstick? That would be interesting...

I just thought we could do some paracord "knittng" and make tea......
How about:
- First person to say "Has anyone got a knife"?
- First person to say "Has anyone got a plaster"?
- First person to say "Ooops".
-
I'm glad someone else spotted that too. :D
Ben, he's gone and changed it. ::) Is that a bannable offense?

There is loads of unused seatbelt material where we will be going ;)

Can I just point out now, that Flash is NOT referring to the doors on the Red Freelander?

So are we going for the MT Triathalon then ???
-
I'm sure that can be arranged... I'll bring a buffing cloth and some oil ;)
Reminds me of my girlfriends favourite joke - how do you titillate an ocelot?
You oscillate its tits a lot :D
-
Okay if I use that for my sig line? :D :D
-
:D - Very good.

Ask her to warm up some more gag's like that for the meet :D

US license accordingly granted for sig line ;)

I've thought of another "test". It's called "Who can get an edge back on DaveK's Kershaw A100"? Stupid bloody thing >:(
Seriously, if one of you sharpening wizards could sort it out for me - I might even start liking you :D

Hey Dave do you have a Sharpmaker? I can't remember if you have ever said  if not you need to get 1 :o :D Of course there are some that might say get the Lansky system but I can't say that because I don't have 1 of those ::) :D
Hey  maybe Ben could give it a go :D

I do, and I get on pretty well with it. But I'm not experienced enough to know what I need to do to get an edge on this blade. If I carry on it will only be about 1/8" thick (and stiil blunt), so I think I'll get some expert help if I can!
-
it always helps to rewatch the DVD for me ;) but I would put a 30 degrees back bevel on it first with all 4 steps then do all 4 steps with the 40 degree bevel and as for how many times I would try 50 times for each step in the initial sharpening for the 30 degree bevel then some less in the 40 degree :tu: just takes trial and error with the Sharpmaker  but someone more experienced than me would know better :D of course if you have any luck with that I would strop it at the end about 50 times both ways to put a polish on the edge :)
-
Ponch - you are dead right I think. But with it being such a hard to find tool, I don't really want to experiment with it and botch it.
I use SAKs for my experiments :P

Bring it to the meet Dave and we'll take a look :)

Could the Triathlon have like different courses for different tools to make it fair on the other nooby multi-tools. For example like a pocket tool course, full sized course, retired tool course and a Gerber course...jks on the last one :D
-
No Tinnie you hit the nail on the head Gerber is in a class of it's own :D
-
I think one of the competitions should be to dismantle a broken toaster (or lamp or whatever) and rewire it to working condition, using only one MT or SAK.
-

I agree that Gerber is in a class of its own. :tu: . Still my favorite. But whats up with all your Gerber bashing lately Poncho :twak: :twak:. I thought we taught you better than that :D

There will be a lot of folks doing it, so we don't want the triathalon lasting too long :-\

To be honest, for light work like fixing a toaster, most of my Gerbers could hack it I reckon!
I think the problems I've read about all seem to be using the Suspension for heavy jobs - I wouldn't want to be using one for freeing seized bolts for example. (You'd be needing a Bear for that >:D). Hmmmm. Bear.
There's an argument about comfort and practicality that would make me choose LM by preference, but I think most half-decent multis could manage light-duty tasks. Even the Suspension!

So I go away for a few days, you folks have a six page thread, and I still have no idea what we are doing. Well done. :D ::)

You seemed surprised? :D

What? You expected different? Pfft.
For me, I don't mind a few trials and such, but I'll be quite content pawing stuff and chilling out. A few little test would be fun definitely, but the main thing for me is to meet some old and new friends, see some new tools and blades, have a few beers and enjoy the open air.
Oh and shoot stuff :D

I'm actually with Dave on this one. I agree a competition would be fun, but I'm more of a chatter and a drinker (and a smoker hope there are no restrictions on your site Nick :o ). I bagsy filming it. :tu:
-
I bagsy filming it. :tu:
What i thought would be an awesome idea would be to set up a camera on a tripod and have it take a picture every 30secs or so and then put together a timelapse video of the whole meet up. But that would require having either a video camera and just film it then take images from the film or a laptop and a webcam or a camera that can be controlled via software (or an intevelometer!)
......but that might just be me!! :D

Filmings fine by me, but I'm fairly certain Nick won't be able to accomodate us, bearing in mind where the venue is :-\
