Title: Coast Fishing Multitool Jr.
Post by: pfrsantos on October 23, 2013, 05:48:47 PM
I recently bought this little MT. Never heard of the Coast Fishing Multitool until I started looking for something similar to the one I got and found this page in MTO.

http://www.multitool.org/20071010226/Miscellaneous-Tools/Small-Tools/Coast-Fishing-Buddy.html

It's not an original and it's about 2/3 the original's size. There's a pic of it standing next to the Sportsman 84mm Vic for comparison.

I'll refer most of this review to the original MT you can find in the link. So, here's a list of the tools, differences are in bold:

1. Three hex wrench cutouts- 3/8", 11/32" and 5/16"
2. Metric and Imperial ruler- 10cm or 4 inches
3. Nail file with nail cleaner
4. Partially serrated Clip pointed blade
5. Pokey stick Bottle opener in the top "cover"
6. Spring loaded Scissors
7. Long shanked phillips driver
8. Wood saw
9. Hook like thingLong shanked flathead screwdriver
10. Leatherman Micra style bottle opener/flathead screwdriver
11. Lanyard ring with spring clip (had to put a ring in it)

Pros:

    Well equipped
    Compact
    Locking implements
Scissors always spring open as soon as you open the handles

Cons:

Specialized tool, not useful for general carry
Scissors always spring open as soon as you open the handles
    Too bulky to carry comfortably

It's on my EDC. Great scissors, useful little blade, nail file/cleaner is reasonable, wood saw better than I thought.

Cost: €3,50 (about US$5)

I bought a similar tool at a dollar store, and did a parody review of it here...

While my review was done as a joke, the tool has a lot of merit for the cost.

Yeah, that tool got copied a few times I think. I like the idea of it quite a bit. Lot of functionality packed in a small package.

Read that, it seems you don't really like it. I find the scissors and small blade (which I've sharpened) very good. Haven't tried the screwdrivers yet, must admit. The saw was tested and did quite well.
