I'm getting ready to tackle the variation page of the MP600, which I'm sure many of you are aware is going to be extensive. So, I need your collective knowledge! Here's a list I made, mostly from the MP600 Show Off Thread, some from the Gerber Website, and some from my memory. Also, I'm aware of the "Build Your Own" MP600 variants, which will get their own section, and should not be included in this list. I'm pretty sure i'm still missing stuff, any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks!

I also found this post by WH867, featuring a MP600 with a bolt gripping channel and a cap crimper (like on a Leatherman Charge): http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,34456.msg558765.html#msg558765 Anyone know if its a production model, and what it's tool set is? (yes I PM'd him, asking you all couldn't hurt either).
I'm pretty sure there was a Terminitator 3 version (or am I thinking MP400?), and maybe a couple more Pro Scout variations (but now i'm just speculating).
There's also the various blade variations (drop point to warncliffe, nail nicks and nail holes) as well as the change from the Simmonds USA file on earlier MP600's to standard file we have today. Anyone know any other tool variations?

I was looking through the Gerber Owners club, and noticed the Phillips driver went through a couple revisions too, with moving nail nicks, and going from solid to skeletonized. Also, the scissors lost the "Fiskers" stamped text somewhere along the way.

There is a Terminator 3 MP600, as well as an MP400 and MP700 model. The MP600 I am missing.
What makes this such a daunting task, I have seen the same MP600 model with different knife variations.

I don't plan on counting the blade changes as a true variation. Its just too much work. Instead, I am just doing a short summary of each official model, and listing any changes to blade style there.

I couldn't say because my collection over the years has been the camo proscout, a mr pinchy, black w/ carbides and w/o and most recently stainless with and without carbides.

True story - as soon as I got it (back in 2003) the camo paint began chipping off, so I stripped the coating and it was essentially a stainless one afterword! :P

And those prototypes are just to die for :dd: I might link to them, but theres just not enough substance about them to write an article.

Not that I've ever seen or heard of (but anything is possible with Gerber).
I do have 2 Blunt nose (both have black tabs) and 3 Needle nose (all with grey tabs) FPR MP600s. I also have a Needle nose with grey tabs that is not marked FPR (but I suppose the FPR could have been removed somehow without leaving any trace)
I suppose the MP650 will be a totally separate listing ? (it is very closely related to the MP600)

I am always bidding (and losing) on Gerber MTs all the time :D I never can get them for the prices I am willing to pay ??? :whistle: :D

Yeah, the Evolution 650 will get its own page, its different enough from the 600 to warrant it.

Yes, along with some Mr Pinchy FPRs and a Multi-Lite FPR :D I have never seen FPR versions of the MP400, MP700 or MP800.
If anyone is looking for an MP600 Blunt nose FPR there is one currently on offer on ebay for U$100 (but I suspect the seller may accept a bit less as it has been for sale for a while now)

There is nothing on the handles to indicate it was once etched with FPR, and while the FPR lettering can fade it still leaves a trace. I think it might have just been a case of using up parts (ie grey locking tabs) left over from the original FPR run.

Do the FPRs have Simmonds files?
All my MP600 FPRs have "SIMONDS, USA" stamped on the tang of the file.
And because I had to physically check on each MP600 to find this out (rather than just rely on the info in my MT spreadsheet) I noticed some other things:
I have one needle nose MP600 FPR with black locking tabs (not the usual grey my other needle nose FPRs have )
Both my needle nose MP60s with grey locking tabs have silver clips for the sliding plier mechanism, while all the other MP600s I looked at (FPR and non-FPR) that had black locking tabs had black clips.

I'm gonna raise this topic from the dead - I believe I have what's described above. Basically it's a Pro Scout with those triangle cutters on the plier heads. Was thinking it was a custom since it was quite different from the pictures in the website. The philips driver is the 'solid' type. Scissors have Fiskars stamped on them. No other distinct markings except 'Stainless' above the locks. Blade tang stamp says 'Gerber USA' in 2 lines.

A local collector was unloading some stuff and I picked this up from him. Just arrived in the mail this morning at work.
It's only now that I'm starting with Gerber tools -- This is a MP600 Pro Scout, right?
Can't wait to get home from work to give it a cleaning and a tune-up. I was lucky that the U-shank bit I found managed to squeeze itself beside the pliers head when it's folded in.

That is an interesting find! It almost certainly was a Pro Scout at one point, seeing as it has all the tools in the right order. No clue if the pliers are original or not, but seeing how few people mod their tools, I'm inclined to say this is probably a factory variant (which is pretty neat, IMO).

Here's more pictures just for documentation purposes. I guess the guys with more exposure to Gerber tools can make heads and tails of this tool.
Note the RemGrit saw is a replacement as the original was totally worn out!
I've also included a picture of the sheath - maybe the camo pattern on it can help date the tool.
