I will have to see if I have any Kershaws left. I used to have a bunch but think they all got traded off. Kershaw is a excellent knife for the money. Their $20 - $30 range of knives have had the same if not better quality control, fit, and finish than competitors knives in the $100 range.

Gotta hop in with a few Kershaws.
Bottom is a Ken Onion 1470 USA.
Next up is an OSOSWEET assisted opener.
Third up is a selectfire with built in driver and bits.
Top one is a huge Emerson designed CQC-4KXL. 3.9" cuttin' edge.

They are good knives for the money. I have carried the 1470 for years and have not a single issue with it. The newer stuff is not as good, but cost a lot less than the 1470 did.
The Emerson is my biggest modern folding knife and weighs a whopping 6.1oz! The quality seems excellent! G10 on one side of the handle and stainless on the framelock side. No wiggle anywhere!

It's so sad that Kershaw knives are only budget options in the US.  :-[

There they are really nice, fun and inexpensive folders with so many different features (SpeedSafe, IKBS, different blade steels, shapes, sizes, handle materials and colors, etc.) you can try almost any and every feature of modern folding knives and have a very decent collection in a few months

My favorite that I own is the OSO Sweet, I could find it at very good price. :)

The ones I'd like to own are more than 30, but the CQC Series, the Chill, Whirlwind, Launch and the new Method have been on my   sight for a long time. Their neck knives are also very sexy and decent looking.

If only Kershaw had a similar price in all countries, I'd have never gotten a Ganzo or other Chinese branded knives I'm sure of that

I will post some newer pics tomorrow, but here's one to avoid, got it super cheap on amazon for like $13, but it is stupid big, heavy and the paint is slippery, I had to scuff the flipper and lock with a wire brush to make it easier to use, a beater I guess. Identity(big stupid ugly slippery heavy is what that means )

I have a bit of a Kershaw problem

I very much like the Knockout.........  .......but I know it won't fit my carry.

Also very much like the Skyline, (semi) ordered it once, had it in hand and felt it was to small for me........bought by somebody else the same day....

Now there's a massive discount on it, and I've grown to love small & light

Knockout is very light believe it or not, Will get a few pics up tomorrow, has a great wide blade and handle is pretty thin as well. Really great knife, I got amazing deal on it a few years back. Lots of people seem to like the skyline, I missed it at lower price and its just too much $ past couple of years

The Knockout is the only Kershaw I can think of that always grabs my eye, and it has for a long time.

Every review I see just makes me want it more.......BUT.....

It might be thin but it's very wide, clipped it would work, in-pocket like I have to 80% of the time.....not so much.

Looking forward to the pics

BTW.....the supplier where my purchases come from has the G10 model in stock.......really love the green but not so much the black blade on the regular model.

Believe it or not the identity and knockout share a very similar footprint, but that's about it, I would rate Identity a 3/10 and knockout a 9/10, when you compare them it's hard to believe the same company makes both although one is USA made and the other made in China. When you use the knockout you say damn thats a good knife, the identity you say damn thats a pos

Kershaw Zing, got it on sale for $14, very slim like the Leek, and great assited action, but the thumb stud is poorly placed and unusable.

Funny how that works! :pok: :D I have the same issue with the thumb stud on my Scallion. The thumb stud is on both sides, but the handle is only notched out for right handed people, so it's hard to open with your left hand.

never knew that and I carry the black scallion from my pic above all the time, but in right pocket. this zing is impossible to use stud, its way too close to handle, sometimes I wonder how I get them so cheap until I discover the flaw.

Yeah, if you look at the two thumb studs, the right hand one actually has a groove in the handle for more room. I find it easier to just use the plunge for deployment, being left handed.

Those Emerson designed Kershaws are great knives for the money. Especially if you can utilize the "wave". I have the cqc-4kxl and find the quality to be very high.

^ Thank you.  I have two more at home, a CQC-6K and a CQC-7K, both are frame lock styles.

Wicked sharp, with the 5K being under the blade length some job sites allow.

I unknowingly had a CQC-7, bought at flea market in 99 or 2000, it was a work horse with  a chisel grind and tanto blade, it was a TOOL.  Some one else thought so too! Picked it from my tool kit immediately when I was around a corner pulling some wire. It was when I looked to replace did I learn about Emersons and what I lost. Loved the handle material as well.

nice, I have a similar emerson one, will post pic tomorrow, I'm not having much luck with these phone pics at night, either casting a shadow from the phone or trying to hold up a flashlight and bounce beam off some white paper, my photos not coming out great.

been eyeing this one, price is a little steep but gonna be patient and wait for a nice drop, anybody own this guy cqc11k:

The CQC5K I think is the only K version with liner lock. All the others I checked were frame locked like yours.

in fact when I bought the Broken Skull I got a bit delayed on my purchase and the blue model got out of stock the fastest of all colors , so I had to get a white one.

Of the color options for the Link, blue was the best looking combo with the dark blade that I could find. I sort of accidentally got into blue knives. It started with my scout knife, then next thing I know, I have a whole fleet of blue blades! Even down to the Kentucky "bluegrass" Stockman :D

Some fixed blades:

Bear Hunter, got a about 5 years ago, now they have them with silly duck commander branding on the blade, it's a little big for my hands, but still usable, tho wish I had gotten the antelope one with smaller handle

anybody know whats going on with these links? Maybe one is older, not sure, but I couldn't resist a backup for $20 last week on amazon, one has flag etched on blade and one doesnt

The flag blade has a deeper edge grind and flipper seems a little more rounded  ??? No idea what's going on here, they were bought within 2 weeks of each other

AFAIK all Kershaw knives made on the USA were upgraded or updated with the flag in 2016,
previous to that it was only on a few select models   :salute:

Kershaw Knockout! A.K.A the 1870BLK.
The handles are aluminum, but there is a place "knocked out" of the frame for a steel lock bar. Pretty cool knife. :)

Thank You, Beard! I had watched some youtube videos saying how good it was and traded two of my other Kershaws for the Olive BLK Knockout (love anything olive handled) for it when the chance came. Can't believe the Knockout only costs $60 new. Seems like it would be more with the Swedish steel and aluminum handles.

Hey Demel,
Kershaw has a lot of good knives using Sandvik steels that are much better than their Chinese 8cr and 3cr blades. Even their 420hc(like the Link) seems to retain an edge a bit better than the 8cr they use. Although, I really like the Cryo that uses 8cr13mov for the price, so I cannot complain too much. :P

do you have the g10 model? if so how is it? the regular one has very tight clip, I like the knife a lot but dont carry that much cause its hard to pull out of jeans pocket

I have the heavy steel Cryo, but would like to get a G10 cryo at some point!
Most Kershaw clips are too tight on my carpenter jeans. This is in no way encouraging doing this, but I usually over spring the clip a little at a time until it is "just right".  :)

as I posted before, my first Kershaw was a Nura 3.5, (https://www.knifecenter.com/item/KS4035TIKVT/kershaw-4035tikvt-nura-35-flipper-folder-plain-blade-stainless-steel-handles) at the time their cheapest offering with KVT. I don't have that Nura today, but I remember its flipping action and budget but very serviceable steel got me in love with the brand, following 4 more knives after that one  :salute:

I think my issue is actually the deep carry clip and big screw heads near the top, and I usaully wear jeans so Its hard to get the top of clip to sit on pocket seam, but I might give your idea a try....but damn that is one strong clip
Title: Re: Let's see some Kershaw's!
Post by: gerleatherberman on March 16, 2018, 01:26:43 PM
Ahh! I see what you mean now! Those screw heads are ridiculous. Even the Knockout has them.
I wonder if there is a source for screws with more flattened heads?
I'll do some searching around tonight. There has to be a quick fix for the screws. I generally tend to just push the clip over the pocket seam and stop at the screws. Not ideal, nice looking or seemingly secure. :-\
I wouldn't mind buying a really cheap folding knife to rob the screws off of, but the threading may be the issue. The screws can be cut down if they are too long for tip down carry.

Post by: ezdog on March 16, 2018, 11:16:51 PM
I actually have both and it is hard to believe they are really the same knife?

I got the original steel Cryo first and just can not stand it overall and then I found a G10 version priced right and decided to give it a shot and I LOVE it!

The whole G10 knife is good to me that it has become my carry when I think it might get confiscated but better than junk knife choice!
Try to shorten that title?
So for instance if working in Chicago I take the G10 or flying and checking bags,I never mind using it or feel under knifed but it also was not pricey enough to cry about.

YMMV obviously

Clash is very comfortable, despite having a sharp-edged look. Black coating much more durable than I thought. Volt II is quite full in the hand, with a thick blade for its size. Volt and Clash are fast openers. Thistle is only manual. It has a button release.

Kershaw group.

Cheap on eBay. Not sure if they’re in Walmart or Tractor Supply stores.

Under $40 in eBay...

Edit: I should note that I have the knockout with the black blade. Looks awesome, but hard to keep looking new. :ahhh

Skyline......tip up or tip down?

I swapped to tip up which leaves much more sticking out, played around a bit and the re-positioning to open when tip down seems almost as fast as tip up.

My poor Kershaw’s took a beating today. Cut up about 50 cardboard boxes. Rough on the ol’ Whirlwind and Clash.

Getting ready to clean them up and touch up the blades.

Speaking of links......
Title: Re: Let's see some Kershaw's!
Post by: Gerhard Gerber on June 26, 2018, 03:46:13 PM
Here follows a  :worthless: mini review of the bog-standard Skyline....

Love the blade, nice & thin so the grind doesn't really matter. I can feel it would be possible to push the edge back and get it sharper, but it's sharp enough and the edge retention is good as is.

By rights it's right hand tip up or down only, and that's determined by the single liner the pocket clips screws grab hold of.......

IMO, disengaging the liner lock would be better for a right handed person if the liner was on the other side of the blade.......go ahead, test with you left hand and tell me it ain't so.......

That leaves you with a problem, the single liner and the saved weight is what makes the knife worthwhile, but no matter which hand, the liner will be on the wrong side for the best ergos to accommodate the  pocket clip.

Some reviews mentioned the detent being weak, mine is very strong to the point its painful to open with the cut I have on my index finger.

Still like the knife.....

Can anyone explain why there is negativity towards the Speedsafe AO? Some youtubers and some on bladeforums seem to not like it, but I never hear a reason. I would never dream of deassisting my Blur as others do, I don't quite get it, if you don't like the feature why buy the knife? I can see legal reasons or restrictions being an issue but I love AO. That Dividend I posted a few posts up fires out like its on amphetamines, really sweet knife.

a. Durability: torsion bars form Speedsafe tend to break easily and after some use, when you've gone through quite a few cycles of opening   :(
b. Tolerances: AO usually covers/hides the bad tolerances in cheap or low quality folders, that need it to open and lock reliably, because if they were manual or relied on precision machining and fitting to work, they would not open half the time  :salute:
c. Safety: when deassisted or the torsion bar breaks, many or most times the knife can't be opened safely, doesn't have a detent (unsafe in the pocket), can't lock or a combination of bad action, locking and retention problems arises  :P
d. Comfort: the force that launches the blade open has to be fought back to fold the blade in the handle, posing a potential safety issue, making it hard or difficult to counteract the AO's spring to close the folder resulting in awkward operation
e. Alternate opening: AO can't be opened slowly, partially, or in a controlled manner which can be problematic at certain times, environments and circumstances as well as among certain types if people

I can think of other reasons (dubious legal classification, "flying knives"... ::)) but they are secondary or tertiary

it's like the AXIS lock on Benchmades, some people have them breaking all the time, others spend 10 years with 10 different Benchmades without an issue, and others are fine for years and then one day it breaks all of a sudden  ??? :ahhh

thats a great knife, I wouldn't worry about that purchase, the USA made Kershaws are top notch.

All mechanical items break after awhile either due to metal fatigue, corrosion, rust, improper heat treatment etc...everything breaks come to think about it, just on different time scales, thank Isaac Newton

When the universe reaches its end and goes cold and even atoms stop moving, somewhere Gerhards soul(if there is such a thing) will be kicking himself that he never got a knockout
Title: Re: Let's see some Kershaw's!
Post by: Blackbeard on July 11, 2018, 01:55:42 AM
As good as the USA made Kershaws are, there are some really decent Chinese made ones, and then there are some really awful ones ie "Freefall" Amazon had a deal last week for about $10, but I already returned it, vertical blade play, blade rattled when you shook knife when open, razor sharp spine gimping, clip too short and so tight it was unusable and held in place by 1 screw on the end. Probably the worst Kershaw I have seen, it was out to cut me  either by lock failure or saw tooth gimping, and I take blade safety very seriously so even for $10 I would avoid this pos.

I found a few Amplitude 3.25's at walmart on clearance for $5 each. I opened one for myself, giving one to my brother, might resell the other...one thing I find weird is the one I opened has 2 bronze pivot washers, looking into the other clam packs I see one has a nylon and a bronze, the third one has 2 nylons and slightly different printing/silkscreen on the package and the scales look thicker on the side view. I find these to be quite odd, why all three have different washers? Maybe produced in a different factory? It's strange I do wonder if the thicker one with nylon is maybe a fake, but not sure if Kershaws are faked.

It's a decent knife, has a Leekish quality to it and nice deployment

I wasn't too sure about this knife.  The handle grooves initially weren't something I considered.  After having this knife for a while and using it quite a bit I can tell you I like it a lot.  The comfort of this handle for my hand is awesome.  I really really like the blade on this knife.  Its one heck of a slicer.  The edge is wicked and keeps it pretty well.  I've used it for food prep many times as well as around the camp site.  Its bulky and a bit awkward to carry I anything other than a sheath or pack.  Over all a sweet blade.

PST and 91mm for size reference.

I'm a bit disgusted with my Skyline......

Firstly, 14C28N.......great steel, more than good enough compared to 8cr13

My main problem is deployment, it's just not a good flipper, especially not after few months pocket time, and what gets me it's not even obviously dirty....

Currently it's easier to use the horribly sharp blade stops like thumbstuds, but that's less than ideal.

Yesterday I tried to cut a dead branch off an office plant, wood was a bit harder than expected so I couldn't get through......went to close the knife and found the liner lock at past 100%

Thought about it and that alone is not a deal breaker......with the single liner a bit of flex is to be expected.

I don't think that's the answer, I've seen what pocket lint does bearing pivots

The blade is great, thin and slicey....all good.

Put that blade in a Spyderco Salt 1 chassis and you've got a hassle-free pocket knife.

If my Salt 1 was PE and the hole was smaller thus lowering the profile of the knife, it would be no contest.....

Kershaw Skyline Plan of action

- grind off flipper
- give blade stops few passes under the polisher
- slightly hollow out G10 to give easier access  to use the blade stops as thumb studs.

My Skyline got raped today, we were pressing larger bushings into these shocks and found it worked best if we cut the rubber off the one end.....

While I killed myself at the press for 3 hours the appy used my knife to cut the rubber......good Sandvik 14C28N

My mind has changed a bit....... :hatsoff: Skyline, and  :hatsoff: 14C28N

I cringed watching how the knife was used yesterday, and I was waiting for the blade to chip out......heard it scratch against the old bushings so many times......

Rinsed it off last night, and 1 drop of Daiwa reel oil on the pivot and it was deploying perfectly again........

What I'm reconsidering is removing the flipper tab, not for deployment reasons but for the guard it forms......that was quite useful yesterday....

Now the steel.....

The edge had a few flat spots, I suspect from in-pocket meetings with me keys.  By last night it was just dull.

I touched up the edge with a diamond sharpener 3-beer free-hand steady, stropped it and it slices receipt paper

Love the color combo on yours. :like:
Which model is that one? It may be my computer screen, but I can't quite make it out in the photos.

I am finally playing with the wave opening and feel it is a worthy knife deployment method in some situations. Not a fan of thumb-discs though. :-\
But, with the Emerson Kershaws, the wave makes a good thumb opening thingy.

The weight of the blade makes the wave feature extremely fast once the break threshold is surpassed. It closes quite smoothly as well with no lock-stick and a fair detent. Not drop-shut, but definitely doesn't feel cheap. How is the action on your CQC-4K?

Action is excellent, but I have to use disc  to thumb flick it, my thumbs are too short to do it on the wave

Admittedly, I tend to turn the knife a bit in my hand to thumb the Wave. Repositioning it after it is opened is getting easier. I've been flicking the CQC around for a good part of the day.

The actual Wave feature is way faster than I had originally assumed.  :ahhh

Waited 4-5 years for Skyline to drop in price, very happy with it at $30 for USA made, fortunately I got an excellent sample, very slim & lightweight, perfect centering, no blade play, shaving sharp, great ergos, good G10 texture, on the cons, could use gimping on the spine and flipper, better clip(comes tip down, but if you reverse it, too much knife will stick up) and cutout for lockbar release could be a little wider, otherwise it's pretty awesome, just got it today, will see how it carries and breaks in and report back

Following up on Skyline:
Needs smoother G10 under the clip, it's very difficult to insert and remove from jeans pocket due to grippy scale and tight clip.
You do get some misfires if you try to use flipper with no wrist flip, seems worse if knife is sitting and is "cold", but opens 100% of the time with wrist action
Be nice if they had a skyline 2 with bearings, better clip and larger lockbar release cutout, would be a killer knife, definently enjoy this one it's just not very fidget and pocket friendly  :salute:

I picked up the Kershaw Dimension a while ago.  Its a beast of knife.  Thick Ti slabs and thick blade.  It flies when deployed which I like  :D.  The speed safe torsion bar had broke twice tho.  Kershaw warranty sent replacements so all good.  I carry it more than I report on, mostly around the home.  The blade being 8Cr is what you'd expect from Kershaw ( they do a good job on it ).

The pocket clips on the Chubbies are the coolest I've seen on a Snap-On licensed tool. :)

I really wish Kershaw would do more with Snap-On. Two of my favorite knives are Kershaw Snap-On collaborations. 1910RD G&G Hawk design(the 1910 is a flipping beast) and 1730SO RJ Martin design(one of the coolest folding knife blades ever). I could sit and flip the 1910 open all day it is so good. :)

I figured out the reason for the grooves in the blade sometime ago. They make it nearly impossible for the end-user to sharpen the blade. I stopped carrying it after it got dull, because I was damaging my stone trying to sharpen the thing.

Did the full Nick on my Skyline, and while I had it apart put a 17 degree edge on it with the Lansky  :woohoo:
:hatsoff: I think the term is "sticky sharp"

Them there Scandinavians are not stupid people, so it shouldn't be surprising that when they cook up a steel with the express purpose of it being a knife steel, it works!

I have a funny relationship with the Skyline, ordered one, inspected it in the shop and felt it was too small for my hand and passed it up

Year or so later I saw it elsewhere at a discounted price and convinced myself.

You only need to go 2/3 pages back in this tread to see my disgust with the knife, but since I had it apart and sharpened it in January, it's been a favourite.

Yesterday I was cutting a box to shape to ship stuff at work, realized the ergos aren't great (for me), but it doesn't matter due to the size of the knife - it's a sufficient blade holder.

The 14C28 has been a revelation, and quite frankly inspiring because I have a sheet of the stuff at home and the digital kiln to properly heat treat it  8)

Only made 2 steak knives so far from the stuff, and completely knackered the extra course diamond stone of my Lanksy trying to put an edge on them.

Good stuff  :salute:

I might get one, but my budget has been trashed for a few weeks. I decided to buy both of the Free Ps, AND another Gerber MP1, AND another SOG PowerAssist, AND another ToughTool.

Well looks like I will be the first MTO'er to get one (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v307/jooliesews/Bobbys/smileys/happy451.gif) , should be here tomorrow  :mail:

Amazons tracking; it's cool to see the little grin blip on the map moving closer to your location, for some reason the driver wimped out yesterday with some construction near me and blip started to move away & I got notification he couldn't access residence...guess it's easier for them to give up then try an alternate route

Then you have to open a chat, which used to be with a live csr, but seems to have been taken over by automated robots and was useless and forced me to call them, and then you have to explain the issue to someone in India, bit of a pain.....anyway I got it today, sorry for boring rant  :twak:

Unlike most Kershaw's, Atmos is non assisted, and runs on KVT bearing system. I guess you could call it a poor mans Zero Tolerance(me being the poor man and unless I win the lottery I will never have a ZT ) and is designed by Dimitri Sinkevich and has that bent scale shape of the higher priced knives.

Scales are G10 with carbon fiber inlays, blade steel is 8Cr13MoV. This thing is extremely lightweight, 1.76 ounces and at first glance seems too light for what it is  but construction seems sturdy and scales are rigid.

Pros:
-Came razor sharp, only tested it on paper but it's as sharp as any of my sharpest knives
-Well Centered, maybe 98-99%
-Blade grind is even on both sides
-No blade play, and good detent
-Deep carry clip, clip is not too tight and has good smooth non g10 area under it, lanyard hole
-Feels very ergonomic, although the bent portion of clip creates a minor "warm" spot
-Good spine, flipper and backspacer gimping.
-Light as a feather
-Inexpensive, $28.50 USD
-Good fidget factor, has only had maybe 1/30 opening misfires so far, when you close the blade enough to get it over the detent ball you can shake the blade closed

Cons
-Not too many cons just some observations on the construction that could be better
-Knife needs momentum to fully engage lockbar, if you partially close the knife and then try to slowly open it again, the lockbar will not go to correct  postion, this is only occuring if you dont use the flipper and try to do a silent/slow open with no momentum.
-Where the lockbar meets the blade tang, the tang is very short, I didn't get a good pic of this, but there is not a lot of tang real estate that sits on the bar, however there is a scoop on the spine that engages with the blade stop so I dont think this is an issue.
-Bearings feel slightly gritty when closing, hopefully this will improve over time, glad to see they used oil and not that stinky grease other Chinese bearing knifes use
-Some people may not like the softer steel, may need more frequent touching up

I will follow up later on after I have carried and used it more, but overall I think it's a winner and deserves the accolades many reviewers have given it.

I didn't know there were that many colors to the Chubby. I see a lot of red, followed by orange. But bright green and all the translucents I've never seen before.   The Craftsman version is cool. I'm surprised that it has a Craftsman part number as opposed to the Kershaw pattern number.

Here's my 1440OR (Orange) a user. Scales are faded, looks like it's been in a dog's mouth (judging by the gouges in the rubber inserts), and the blade has some scratches.  Still the thing cost me $20. At least the seller cleaned and sharpened it, and knew what they were doing (normally I avoid anything cleaned and sharpened by the seller). But I really like the shape and size of the knife. I have no problem getting a good grip.

NP GLBM, yeah I am having a lot of fun with this one. As you can see reviews aren't my day job and I seem to have left out the measurements  I also borrowed the weight from amazon website, but on my crappy non digital postage scale it was closer to 2 ounces.

It's probably not gonna replace any hard use/work knives, it's just too light, but it's great for normal edc tasks and just fidgeting with 1 hand(as most of us probably use a knife for 75% of the time)

I haven't had it fail to open except that one time I mentioned, now in about 50-60 tries, so I guess that was user error, it's not as finicky as Kershaws other popular non assisted knife the skyline, which I'm still not sold on due to the misfires and tight clip

I will probably beef up the review after a few weeks of carry and slap it and the pics in the review sub-forum in the future

If you don't own a ball bearing knife this is a good place to try out for little $ outlay, if you want something a bit more robust try Ruike P801 for about same $ or Sanrenmu 910 which is even cheaper.

Nope, my pocket clip stands about 0.5mm proud of the scale and it's never been an issue.......probably my least problematic knife when it comes to climbing out of the pocket by itself when you sit down.....

Lock bar relief was further relieved to accommodate my fat fingers.

Disassembled, cleaned and lubed.......and the big one: secondary bevel increased to what Lansky says is 17 degrees.  :salute: Laser

My current phone is jinxed, my first ever cracked screen, and then I dropped it a second time in 2 weeks......another crack and some structural damage.

Next day I realized one of the chassis screws was ripped out and preventing the cover from clipping back into place......used the Skyline as a screwdriver no worries

I'm slowly falling in love with 14C28N  :dd:

And that's why I always buy professional/industrial model phones even if the performance/features suck and they're bulky. My current one (Sonim Bolt)  is supposedly able to be run over by a truck and still be unscathed. Unfortunately, the camera's a joke. Looks like something from a toy.  One of those models with a better camera would be the Kyocera DuraXE. I've actually taken some photos for here on it (camera USB/Charging cable bit the dust), and they turned out quite good.

I used to do that.......back when it made any sense.  If I could afford iPhones I'd go that route.

You can run an Andriod phone as long as it lasts provided you don't load facebook and especially whatsapp, because this running out of storage space BS is simply planned obsolescence.

I'm sitting with a Samsung and LG phones in perfect working order, just not enough space for apps with the updates installed.

Apart from the phones being very expensive and basically disposable, I've found the contract option  at my service provider is the best option, 2 year contract including a phone, I never use all my airtime so the phone is my single cheapest expense.

To give you an example, I'm about a year into the new contract, guesstimate I'd pay 25% the price of a crappy phone to buy out the remainder of my contract, renew and get a new phone.  :salute:

Updating some of my previous Kershaws thoughts:

Skyline: carrying it a lot, flipping action has gotten much better and I really love the blade shape, exceedingly sharp and cuts amazing, however it is ripping the seam of my pocket badly.with the rough G10 and tight clip.

Atmos: still great, no complaints, highly recommended

A couple of cheapies I picked up in the past 2 months:

Hotwire - A $10 Walmart exclusive, not too bad for the price, has speedsafe assisted opening, on the small side, uneven grind and horrible tiny overtight pocketclip

Cinder - Tiny key chain sized knife was under $7, thumbstud a little hard to open with one hand, has an itsy bitsy liner lock, Love the tiny blade for opening clamshell packages and boxes

More and more this is just the knife I grab first.  The G10 on mine is maybe a bit smoother after the mods I did, so fortunately my pockets are fine.

I got mine dirty recently and that affects the action, not a guaranteed flipper if you don't concentrate.

Much as I love my Skyline, it's not a good flipper, and that's the only practical deployment method.

The Skyline get's more pocket time and use than any other knife I own for good reason, but now it's again at that point where you cannot pull it out of your pocket and just lazy lightswitch it open, it needs a wrist flick to lock.

I know a better arrangement of flipper tab to pivots can mostly solved that issue, but that's why I don't like flippers.

Still a favourite knife in so many ways   so conflicted  :ahhh

I got a kiln so I can heat treat stainless now, only 14C28N so far.  Very happy with the results, but I also know, as per Sandvik, I can't maximum hardness without the cryo cycle.

Kershaw !

Man, I do love an East Texas hardware store. Today i was looking at space heaters and this local hardware store had an awesome selection of knives. Of course I had to take it all in. Lots of Case knives as they were a dealer. Ended up purchasing a Kershaw Blur in s30v. I have a Benchmade Griptilian in the same steel and it holds up pretty good at work.

I've had the tanto blade for a while. Both are assisted opening and are super smooth. At 68 bucks it ought to get plenty of use at work in 2023.
