Ladies, Gents and Ben,
The date and venue for the 2010 multitool.org UK Meet are now confirmed as:
Saturday 22nd / Sunday 23rd May 2010
Shipston On Stour
Warwickshire
Precise details of the site, including maps and directions are available by PM to me, but we feel it's best not to publish exact details on the 'net in case anyone dodgy like Mike LOTS is reading.... oh, hang on  :)
The owner of the site we have chosen seemed like a friendly chap, and didn't hang up when I started telling him about what we are and will likely be doing, which is good. I can summarise our chat as follows:
Knives - Check
Camper Vans - Check
Fire - Check
Arrive / Depart when we feel like it - Check
Ray Mears wannabe activities - Check
We've chosen this venue based on location and a number of factors that should make it perfect for our event. The pitch fees (including the camper van) will be a fiver. If anyone brings a big top (or 8 berth jobby) he might want a bit more :D
All multitool.org members are welcome to attend the event on either day free of charge, however tent pitches are limited. To that end, I'd be grateful if people could confirm their bookings, by sending 5 GBP by PayPal to the e-mail address on my profile. Please use the "Personal Payment Owed" option so I don't get any fees, and make sure I have enough info to link your PP payment to your multitool.org user ID! - ta :tu: Prompt payment secures your pitch!
If anyone wants or needs any more info, drop me a PM and I'll do my best to sort you out.
In previous years, these events have been great fun and a number of good friendships have been created amongst the membership here - let's hope for even more attendees this year
-
Wow, I don't even qualify as a Lady!
Great work Dave. You will receive my payment in a moment. :tu:
Like Dave said, the previous ones have been superb. All the guys that go are superb (yes even including Mike) and I can guarantee a great day for anyone that attends.
Look forward to seeing you all in May
-
Stella work Dave mate :tu:
I'll have the pp winging it's way too you by weeks end :tu:
-
Payment sent :tu:
Talking of big tents. If the weather is inclement a large tent might be a good idea. I have such a beast. If you don't mind giving me a hand putting it up :)

I dunno, you weren't there to see what we did with Nick's awning :D

As a communal dry area you mean? That might be useful Neil. At very least we should think about a decent sized / decent weight gazebo or something. I'm sure we'd all chuck in for any extra pitch fee.
And tables ::) I always forget tables and chairs!

The end wall is 2.4m wide. So it not huge but you can walk in it and set up a table and chairs in there. There's two separate sleeping pods off the side as well, so if someone doesn't have a tent they can use one of those.

If anyone has a bigger one then all the better :tu:
I can also bring one of these...

Cheap and nasty but so long as you're not over 95Kg it should survive :)

:-\ Hmmm. I was thinking beer storage....
That looks a good idea mate - bring it along!
-
Yeah and you should have room in the car now Neil, as that great fat smurf Ryan's not going :D
-
That provokes a thought actually. Car sharing.
I'm not sure if it makes sense to car-share this time Neil - what do you reckon?
EDIT: Scratch that. It makes perfect sense! Same again Neil?
-
Its about an hour to you and about two to the venue so from that perspective it probably is. However it could be tricky with kit space if I've got the big tent with me.
-
How big is it? Bigger than Ryan? :D
-
How big is it? Bigger than Ryan? :D
From all reports, that would be about the size of a 2 man backpacking tent... ::)
-
im so gutted as although i probably could sort my shifts the distance is too far for me :-\ i might have to see if my brother in law fancies a road trip , ill be back :D
paul
-
Get a train man! Someone could pick you up from the station.

sadly im going on my money situation at the moment dave, just hope its ok by then , i will try my hardest,
paul
-
Make sure you do ;)
-
Paul, that is the closest, and probably will ever be the closest meet to you. Gareth comes from Scotland so the Midlands is about as fair as we can make it. It's a right laugh so make it if you can. :)
I was thinking the same thing about a large gazebo/tent just in case it starts peeing it down. It also adds some necessary cover from any passers by.
Mike, we good to nab your tent again this time? (remember it all this time please )
-
Nice one Dave. I'll go scrounge together some PP. :tu:

I'll bring a couple of poncho's too, in case we end up having to rig something like we did the first time :)
-
Don't forget earplugs as I snore >:D

Already packed, and with several spares just in case :D

Hmm, guess we don't want Greenpeace on our backs again.
Let's think, all in the course of one evening we had pollution of the waterways, violation of the clean air bill and to top it off causing navigational issues for several pods of whales ::)
Man's an environmental liability :D

-
I will smuggle it in , in my multitool sheaths :D
It wont be rust on my multitools , lt'll be Chilli :ahhh
-
Well, the alternative was to make Dunc wear the suit, but after a few experiments it was deemed a no go...
After the chilli :( ...

Brown wind? Thats some potent chili you're thinking of cooking!
I'll bring some various medical bits and pieces so I can treat any injuries that I may inflict may happen completely and totally by accident. I hear these knife thing are a bit sharp.

Bring a copy of your book to mate :tu:

Is it somehow ironic that the last blood injury was done with a knife from NZ?

Sounds like this will be quite an event :drink:
If I was at least on the same patch of land I would try and make it but sadly I am not
I'll have to make do with the follow up reports and pics :tu: None of this what happens at the Meet stays at the Meet nonsense :pok: ;) :D

Lol. Its shaping up to be a good meet. Chili, beer, blood, shiny stuff. Should be fun :D
-
It will be great. :tu:
Remember, this is open to anyone so book up if you want to come.

Absolutely. We want to see some new faces chaps, so don't wait for an invitation just sign up and give £5 to DaveK (to cover the pitch cost) and you're set to come. Don't think you need to bring boxes full of tools and lights (although if you have them please feel free to bring them) it's just a great way to be able to put some faces to the names and hear some voices rather than read some words. :tu:
Dave is going to be confirming numbers sooner rather than later, plus it's not a huge camp site, so book early to avoid disappointment. :D

I've been flying Birmingham to Belfast City a fair bit recently, and flights can be had very cheap if you book far enough in advance. You get plenty of change from 100 quid I reckon. We could arrange a pickup from the airport for you, and I even have a spare tent if you needed one.
It would be great if you could make it!

I'd be driving right past the airport on my way down, it'd be perfectly possible to pick you up sometime in the afternoon (flight times depending). It's worth considering, it'll probably cost you less to fly than it will cost me in petrol. ::)
-
The scary thing is flights would only run to £46 :o
We've got a family wedding in Scotland the previous month; so I can't see me making this sadly :(
Good to know flights are quite cheap I'll keep an eye out for the next meet up :D
Is there normally another one after the summer?
-
There may be another, but that will probably be a smaller meet like what happened last year. So far, there has been one big meet each year, but really we can do what we sodding like. :D
-
Has this site been cleared for wolves, giant fruit bats and mischievous fairies?
-
Well just to throw a spanner in the works, this is going to happen on one of my custody weekend's, and my ex's refusing to swap :-\
But I'll sort it :)
-
Think of the road trip

John as you live practically next door to the place I'm sure someone can pick you up on route. :D I'm sure there'll be a spare bit of canvas as well, I should certainly have a spare tent with me so I think you could crash in that.

-
Are you doing a mention over in the SOSAK forum this year Mike?
I don't know :-\
The thing is I'm never over on sosak these days (for one thing a member who's name rhymes with Doger post's there) so I don't know/trust the member's like I do the MTO lot :-\
I'm happy to if you all think we should :)
-
So are we all confirmed with a list of peeps going now then?
-
Nope :D

In the real world that sentence sounds ludicrous. Anyone who frequents this forum knows that on here its quite plausible. I'm off to get some porpofol... >:D >:D

That would be great :D I could give you a little tour including Hunters yard , Raf Coltishall , Happisburgh cliff erosion etc.
Dunc
-
I would love to visit Hunter's again - it's been 27 years :)
And as you know, I spent time at RAF Coltishall when my uncle was based there too.
There's already too many reasons to come Dunc, even before we start talking about multitools! It's a date :tu:
-
We were thinking about going camping on your bit of coast in the summer, so I'm sure I'll bump into you later in the year :tu:
:pok: but you're still not forgiven ;)
-
Maybe we could go see him together Neil? You know, I distract him, you run in and nick his stuff kind of thing :D

Wow , if the mountain won't come to mohammed .... :D Neil let me know when and if I can be of any help give me a shout .
Still think we should have a meetup on a broads cruiser one year . We could hire a big old one that sleeps twelve and have it out over a long weekend .Wouldnt have to worry about scaring people with sharp things either .

I think we would have to go diesel if a good few of us turned up , plus I know diddly squit about sailing :D Also there wouldn't be room for your collection on a sailing boat :D

I wonder if those qualifications expire actually. Put it this way, I was RYA Advanced when I was 16 anyway :D

The boat sounds cool actually, I vote we do that next year :tu:

Seriously, the boat sounds like a great idea. I think I'd have to travel down the night before to make it worth while though, Norfolk is quite a way away.
-
The boat sounds cool actually, I vote we do that next year :tu:
I'll be wanting a PFD at all times then (I hate the water as I sink alarmingly!) :o
Sounds familair, I've always been told that anyone can float but I too tend to knife downwards in water :(

Well the Salon has been fitted with a new set of boots, been fully serviced, MOT'd and taxed (to a total cost of £500 :() but she is ready to rock for the meet! :D

I feel your pain mate, the Mondeo just needed a new set of front springs (one had sheared :o) and a new rear hub bearing. Just a bit under £500 all told.
-
And here was me moaning about £300 out at the garage on Thursday :-\ ... I'll be shutting up and counting blessings!
-
And here was me moaning about £300 out at the garage on Thursday :-\ ... I'll be shutting up and counting blessings!
£100 of mine was tax though, and that did include a full set of tyres. So not too bad really.
-
I'm not being all tree hugger atm, but damn cars are expensive these days :(
-
They can be. Sadly all mine came in one huge lump. Usually I'd try and tax one month, service and MOT another and get crap like tyres/exhaust etc done another. Didn't work out though this year as I left it all too late.
-
At least it's all done in time for ferrying me about :tu:
-
Yep it's all good to go :tu:
-
Good news boys - we don't want any "failed to shows" due to breakdowns :D
-
Are we all fixed then?
Or are we still waiting on people :pok: :pok:
-
I think we're pretty much going to have the field to ourselves - a couple of stragglers probably won't make any odds :)
-
Folks,
We had a list going of people who are / are hoping to attend this meet, but I'm buggered if I can find it
I spoke to the site owner yesterday to make sure all is still on, but I need to confirm the number of pitches ASAP. (Your fiver covers your pitch, so two sharing is just a fiver)! This to include those that might be coming, borrowing tents etc. So with apologies for knowingly repeating this:
Definitely coming - pitch needed:
DaveK
Mike LOTS
Neil
Neil's big tent
Gareth
Da ladies in da camper van
Rich ???
Nick ???
Definitely coming - NO pitch needed (including daytrippers)!:
Ben
Zag
John ???
????
Help me fill in the blanks guys :tu: This would also be a good place to list anything you might need to borrow in the way of tents, equipment, get a lift etc.......
-
I'm not happy that I am now on Mike's pitch. I want him to be on my one. >:D :D
-
How come I need two pitches? I have lost a bit of weight you know
I think he's just out to wind us up Ben >:(
-
There's a name for people like him. >:(
-
Yeah >:( and it helps take larger boats in and out of ports :P
-
Put me down as being there tho I don't know ATM how I'm getting there and also where I'll be sleeping
That said I do have the little survival book Mike sent me so I maybe able to build a three storey block of flats out of leaves and twigs :salute:,going by the book it should only take me a couple of hours, hell! that way I could accommodate the lot of us :D
-

One for the tent that you'll sleep in, one for the big communal tent you're bringing (or did I misunderstand ). You won't be having to stump up the extra pitch fee - I have that covered :)

So you want a pitch? I think there might still be some room in Mike and Ben's tent ;)
I can lend you a tent if you need one - just say the word :)
-
I'm not happy that I am now on Mike's pitch. I want him to be on my one. >:D :D
I thought you were sharing with Mike - no? ???

John I can pick you up on the way down and bring an extra tent and sleeping bag if you'd like. There'll also be room for one more in my spare tent so if anyone needs the crash room (and doesn't mind sleeping with John ;)) just shout out. I can also provide spare sleeping bags for anyone who needs one.

-
Dave I'll be sleeping in a side pod of the big tent so only one pitch required :tu:

Gotcha! The guy did mention that if any of the tents were bigger than 2 or 3 berth, the pitch fee might go up a bit, but that's cool - I have it covered. Ben can pay :P

Well, it's good to see that several of you are still coming and are obviously all still in love :D
We're still good to go, just been AWOL due to a rather naughty volcano keeping us on the other side of the pond for a while. Photos and tales when I have slept off the jetlag properly and can be arsed!

Good question. it's all going on the credit card so it's maybe just as easy for folks to pay on the day. Correct change only please. ;)

What :o even after plying him with Ben's orange squash :ahhh :D
-
Yes I'm not accustom to your funny English notes so I'll be examining them most carefully. :police:
Totally OT but I was a touch surprised when I was handed a £1 note in my change from a corner shop just the other day. Now we kept the notes far longer than you lot did but I still hadn't seen one for a good long while, turns out that the Royal Bank of Scotland still prints the things, though I imagine in pretty small numbers.
-
That is surprising. I wonder how long until they phase out the five pound note with a coin?
-

They do commemorative £5 coins already, I've got one for the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, but they're dirty great big things (about 1.5" across) that'd never be practical as a general coin. I can see it happening I suppose but not any time soon I hope.
-
It'd have to be something size wise similar to the two pound coin but perhaps pentagonal to make differentiation easier.
-

That sounds like the right idea IMO.
Change of topic again, I was just wondering if Ben would even be old enough to remember £1 notes (somehow I doubt it ::)) then I remembered the coin the disappeared; the half-penny. No way is Ben going to remember one of those, how about you? Keep in mind you might be giving away your age. :D
-
Yes I remember when stuff was priced to the half penny :-[
There's probably a few 1/2p coins round the house somewhere :)
Now for years I was the kind of guy who'd stoop down to pick up a 1p coin but these days even I have had enough of coppers. We have a change tray in the living room but all coppers just get dumped in a jar until such time as its full and we can shove them in the change machine at the supermarket. Their value is so abysmally low that its not worth putting them back in your pocket, I say its time they were ditched and the 5p was the smallest coin or frankly perhaps even the 10p.
-
I can remember spending sixpences :) They were worth 2.5 new pence if I remember right, but I'm quite old :D
I actually have a few presentation cases of the decimal coins from when they were first minted in 1971 if anyone's interested in pics. They're quite neat :)
-
I could happily see the back of copper coins as well, just like you Neil they all get thrown in a box and then dumped in the coin machine at the supermarket. Even that's more hassle than it's worth really. ::)

I think my brother used to have one of those sets (no 20p IIRC), those coins were BIG compared to the ones we use now. It's easy to forget and doesn't seem that long ago (might be the better part of 20 years now that I think about it :o).
-
I've just taken some snaps - I'll start a thread somewhere in a tick......

I'm not sure what I miss more, the half penny or that you could get 4 mojos for a half penny
So, is everyone set for stuff and things (equipment in grown up speak), lifts from train stations etc or does anyone need anything else? Plenty or room in the van.
Food is still on so if any of you haven't seen and/or replied to this: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,14800.210.html (I'm hoping that links directly to the page relating to free food and babyish dislikes :D ) please do so so I have a handle on how many sporks will be at the ready. :tu:

They were before my time, but I have the odd one and have found a few in the garden etc.

I am going to try and finalize my plans :o
I am planing on popping in on Sat mid morning and leaving in the evening
I am able to go via 'Haddenham & Thame Parkway' train station
or Oxford Train Station,
and the bus stop at 'Thornhill Park and Ride' (coach stop from London)
If anyone wants a lift from these areas :pok:
Any one want me to bring anything with me?
A knife made from a chisel for a laugh? :D
-
:pok: We need to see your 25p special :D
My plans revolve around Dave, so I'll be there when he's there.
-
I will get the show case ready this weekend :D
-
Yep bring your toy's Tony :tu:

I will see what I can find :D

I'm gonna throw a sales thread up in the next couple of days probably, so anything that people want me to put on hold to check out in person at the meet, just let me know :)
We had a fence built today so there's a little extra firewood coming with us too - also need to go skip dipping to get lots more.

Not long to go now :)

*awaits a slap*
-
Yer not wrong Mate,
If I ever quote Vis (I'm very funny me) at work I'm met with blank stares
-
You'd be alright with me Sparky - I used to love Viz :tu:
Paul Whicker the Tall Vicar was my favourite, and Roger Melly :D
-
I've out grown my Fat slags/the postman T-shirts :-[
:D
-
Oh how childish (yet incredibly funny) Viz was. Does it still exist?
-
I think so
-
So it does :D
http://www.viz.co.uk/
-
Mrs Brady little old lady
-
There are games on that site, like Roger's Profanisaurus Hangman :D
There's a Fat Slags game too, but people need to go check that one out for themselves :P
-
The guys who started Viz occasionally drank in my old haunt with my comic selling pals over 20 years ago now... Chris Donald and I ended up rather drunk together one night and he drew a lovely pathetic sharks cartoon on a napkin for me.
Sadly, I was dumb enough to give it away to a friend who was a fan ::)
They were a lot of fun ;)
-
I bet they were! Cool story 8)
