Here we go for month 5 of carrying different SAKs every single day for a whole year!
(month 1 [misc] (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,75292.0.html), month 2 [Alox84/85mm] (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,75698.0.html) and month 3 [Metal 74mm/Minimalist] (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,76240.0.html), month 4 [65mm] (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,76721.0.html))
Starting today, Saturday the 5th of May, I'll be carrying a different 58mm knife every day. They will then of course all be Victorinox.
I'll keep counting the knives towards my year so 121 to 150. Can't believe it's already that many!
Again, I'll be following the same guidelines I set out in month #2 (copy-pasted below). Not planning any breaks for this month either...
- Carrying/using multiple SAKs simultaneously is ok but we're counting the days and not the knives.
- Need to carry at least one "not carried in this challenge yet" knife every day. (if you're not doing the whole year with me, feel free to reset your list after each month)
- Since this will go on for at least a whole year, breaks are allowed but only due to carry restrictions while travelling or because of hospitalization. Just pick up where you left off once you're back.
- Exact duplicates are allowed but not twice in a row. (do not count as exact duplicates: variations in generations/tool evolution, scale & crest - type & shape & color, wear/damage, inlays/engravings and the likes. Basically, as long as we can tell them apart, it's ok to post them twice in a row). Posting a pic of the duplicates together before carrying them is strongly suggested.
-
So, I didn't exactly count them but I feel like I could go for 3 months with 58mm knives... SURELY one of you could join me for just 1 month, right?
Here goes day 1 of this month with an old EDC that was on my keychain for a while before I replaced it with a MiniChamp with similar scales...
Day 121
Victorinox Classic SD in silver Alox scales.

I can't follow you this month either  as I only have 4 SAKs in this size range, but the Alox Classic is ::) and so thin and light it's a keeper for life :tu:

Nobody likes my mountain shots? I had to drive all the way there and back on the same day. It started raining a bit later so I'm lucky to have had the opportunity to take these pics.
I heard Borg likes the Macao bordeaux so here goes today...
Day 124
Victorinox "De Luxe" - Bordeaux Red
I've put it next to the Wenger Macao Bordeaux for comparison. (and for Borg)

Once upon a time I found one of these... At half the old retail price... And I didn´t buy it.
-
Thanks Syem, I presume 5 microns is the thickness of the gold..i would wear that off in no time polishing those beauties, they are both stunning
It's just a shame they didn't do them in 91mm...

Similar things happened to me... It was more often a budget issue but still pretty frustrating. Thanks Syem, I presume 5 microns is the thickness of the gold..i would wear that off in no time polishing those beauties, they are both stunning

Yup, that's 5 micron gold plating on the Macao. I think my "700" one says 2 micros in the box so 5 is not bad, considering :D
I haven't found any info regarding the golden rim on the De Luxe... Not even sure it's actually gold but it does seems like it.
-
it's not that we don't enjoy your precious mountain shots,
but we're :o on every SAK you post to focus on backgrounds :D...at least I am :ahhh

I would last only 18 days in this.
-
I would last only 18 days in this.
That's already a lot of knives... At least you've stayed reasonable! I'm having trouble picking one every morning because there's so many in the box... And I know I have a couple more Alox LE someplace else because their boxes don't fit in with the rest of my 58mm. :D
BTW thanks for taking the time to take the beautiful picture! Really nice pieces! I have some of the same and will have to try and hold back on getting the others!

Day 127

Victorinox Bijou with armag advertising. They sell office tech.
Bit of a special day today with major milestones at work and my intronisation into the Geneva round table. With the Geneva round table president, the area president and the Switzerland round table president.

Rogue is a new one on me, it looks useful :tu: That OC (Solo?) how on earth do you find them so clean? it looks better than new :like:
-
I don't.
It is just like brand new tho. Blade and scales were in very bad shape. Vic made it brand new for CHF 10.- then sent me back the old parts.
-
Wow, i never knew they did that with Alox..i have a very worn one, it's not my wear so i'm happy for it to be renewed..i might look into that :tu:
-

Make sure to always ask them to return the old parts. Just mention what you'd like them to do and what they should absolutely not do for example if your blade has an old tang-stamp or something you can ask them to restore the blade but swap the scales...
I'll have to bring them some other ones now that I think of it... I've got an 84mm Sentry with green Alox scales in pretty bad shape. I know they have the red OC 84mm scales still in stock but I gotta try the rarer ones...
-
Day 132
Victorinox Classic with edelweiss and cross pattern (same on both sides)

:like: so many awesome 58mms :ahhh :tu:
-
Day 134
Victorinox De Luxe in red [1st gen]
If I understand correctly there seem to be two generations of red and blue. The former having a higher contrast within the marbled pattern. This seems like the older, darker version of the red.

Givaudan is the world's largest flavours and fragrances manufacturer. Walking by their factory in Geneva is always a weird smell trip.

Day 137
Victorinox Companion (keyring-less) in red with advertising from a very famous 225 years old Swiss watchmaking company. I like the crest-like encased GP on the front with the full-name "cartouche" in the back.
Noticed after leaving this morning that it needs a new scissors spring...

Day 141
Victorinox Classic De Luxe in black with Vidmar advertising on the front.
Special day today (besides work) with a group shot of my evening carry. Barbecue evening with the family to announce that I'm going to be a dad in a few months. Hence I took out a fass/stgw 57 bayonet converted into a BBQ tool. Also carried a partially serrated leatherman knife (I'm sure someone will know the name...) as a complement to the Victoria bayonet for handling the meat as a classic is a bit overwhelmed in this kind of situation.
The handle on the bayonet has been changed as part of the conversion.

Day 144
Victorinox Classic SD 2016 Limited edition - Wilhelm Tell
Nearing the end of the month... What should I do next? Spartans? Soldiers? 93mm Alox? 5+ layers? I gotta check the piece-count for these categories to know if I can sustain a whole month of any of these. Still, ideally, what would you prefer?

That's probably going to be the hardest to get 30 for but I'll check. (especially since I used 2 already I think in month 1)
Edit: 500 posts on the forum already!!! Woo-hoo!

Day 146
Victorinox bi-color Signature Jetsetter
(for my 501st post I should rename this knife that I rescaled for the purpose of adding the pen and a bit of variety. "The 501st" in honor of the fabled Clone battalion which courageously fought against the Droid armies.)
Bit of a special background today... I'll post more on that in the "what's your latest sak" thread.

Day 148
Victorinox "Vintage" from 1952-1970 if I believe the tang stamps. Sakwiki says that the Vintage was first listed in 1989 but I don't know what else to call it... And if it was vintage in 89 that must mean it existed before...

Fair enough but what should I call it? 4+ or "almost nothing but 5+"?
I kinda hoped I could do a stack challenge as one of my months but 4 layers aren't going to cut it for that badge...
Maybe I should wait until later this year? Carrying big knives like this with such weather is no good without a belt pouch. Carrying a belt pouch whilst wearing a suit is no good either.
I'm sorry but after careful consideration I'll have to postpone the 5+(/4+) mostly because of work.
I've got another idea for next month though and I'm sure you guys will like it :D
And I promise that I'll go through my 5+ (and maybe 4+ if I don't have enough) when the time is right (and the weather colder).
