A SwissChamp is a SAK that everyone should have. Lots and lots of fiddle factor and still (just about) practical to use all the tools. :D Lets be honest, it's the SAK that every child dreams about owning, right?
Paul, you know you've got me thinking about carrying my SwissChamp this weekend don't you? :twak:
I'm so easily influenced.

Well, I'm in with:
A Supertimer (SwissChamp with Timekeeper scales)

And a SwissChamp XAVT

I do think the Cybertool 41 should be a member of this club too. It really is the modern SwissChamp.

Swiss champs! I do love them. I debate about removing the fish scaler, as its basically a ruler for me only.. but I leave it. The only thing I dont use is the mag glass and Id love to swap that out for the wenger universal wrench.

Well, I've been a proud member and owner of an old school, red Swiss Champ since about 1989 :DHarrumph!
Still got it, but don't really use it much these days... always wanted one and was extremely extremely excited to get it for my birthday that year. It's got a lot of wear and the scales are a bit knackered, but it's mine :dd:
Also have a XAVT but I don't think that's really what we're talking about here ;)
Well yeah, but it's not "THE" Swiss Champ is it?!
Also, I would never beat mine up... one of the few things around here you could actually call a shelf queen ::)
Armeé Suisse, that is the Miss Universe of Swisschamps, hands down.I keep wanting to make a lockable Lucite case for mine to put on my desk. I love it's barometer function!
Reiner, don't guess, XLT is perfect for EDC. I still feel more comfortable when I handle my original Swisschamp (my palm and a Swisschamp are accustomed to each other) but the XLT is highly usable. A few tools have a minor clearance problem near their base occasionally but it fulfills most needs with ease. I can't imagine somebody using the XAVT to screw something one handed though. But it is an eye candy, perfect for a glass screen in the living room, with all the tools extended and surrounded by closed specimens of the remaining collection.
How durable is the rosewood btw? Does anyone carry one or is it a shelf queen mostly?
What kind of tree rosewood comes from? Rose tree or Briar?

The Swisschamp was my second SAK after the Explorer, and quite possibly the one responsible for the other 68 I know have...pah!!, small fry with you guys I know. But the almost jewel like quality of the swisschamp is just sooooo addictive and once you have it you simply want more, hence the Cybertools, XLT. XAVT, XXLT........Dear God, I have spent a small fortune and all because of the Swisschamp.
So my advice is ................Stay Away!! lol

My holy grail, but two times that found it, it was too expensive for me.
The real Holy Grail is the Swiss Champ with engraved silver handles that Victorinox did for their centennial. Only seen a few; all well out of my price range.

Well yes, but i haven't find it for sell, and i imagine (as you wrote) that it will go sky high in price.

Marios, this XAVT on your avatar reminds me a double canon antiaircraft artillery, such as Breda, Bofors or Artemis. You might have seen any.

Cocobolo is nice wood. Sanding dust can be harmfull, I've never worked with it.

specially as Paul seems to be blaming me for his addiction !
i've carried my old girl round for years (8 maybe) i use it most days , and i can't imagine life without her ! how anyone manages in life without a swisschamp is beyond me, specially if you have kids and need to mend things or change batteries regularly.
*mine has been dropped, dropped more than once  and at least once from over six feet ! but that might be a thread for another time ??
one of the scales has been 'repaired' with P38 (car body filler)
not pretty but it works, and the main blade is quite stiff because the liner is a bit bent, but she's mine and i love her
I've just opened a bottle of beer with my Swisschamp
she's a pain in the a*se ! if she sees a flashing light she chases it.

It has Roman numerals
I suppose so. In another shop I noticed some Timekeepers, also with roman numerals. I haven't seen one with Arabic numerals.
If some one is waiting to join the club there is a nice 1897 100yr Anniversary one with buy-it-now looking for a new owner. Very reasonable too.

i have one too but i will mod it.I've just been thinking about all the knifes I have been picking up and trying to decide what ones to keep in the box and which ones i will actually use - am nervous to use my colour Alox as they are so pretty :) (not sure how many people use theirs?) - I then turned my to your question - for me I think the Swiss Champ is the EDC for me every time as its has pretty much all I want except one change I would make -

I just got my Swiss Champ today! I got it Brand New off Ebay for 35 bucks free shipping. I got the Plastic Magnifier version ( I actually prefer reading with this one).
I carry an Explorer Plus as my EDC and boy does it look tiny compared to the SwissChamp. :) I carried the Champ in my front pocket today and it really was not that bad. The Champ will probably live in the Glove department and be my emergency go to SAK when going out of my everyday Urban environment.
Then again.. I may just EDC this. I just have to add another notch in my belt to keep my pants from falling. :)

Try it on a P-7 clip to the front pocket. It works very well and it doesnt feel heavy. :D
A few years ago I bought an older SwissChamp (with the old style mag glass) off of Felinevet. It needed some TLC and I had a great time restoring it. Replaced the scissors/pliers springs, sharpened the blades, sanded and re-polished the trashed knife, replaced the scales that were falling off with shiny new black ones. Was a fun project. It would go on to become my sole EDC for about a year after that. I haven't actually carried it in probably 2 years now, but it's also about the only multi I will take to my grave. Fantastic tool that just has such a rich history behind it. Anyone who has any interest in multis at all needs to own one at some point, even if they don't like SAKs. The SwissChamp really is THE quintessential multitool.

Great story - we need pics!
Champion is Swisschamp's father. My cousin had a Champion and I, jealous of it, was ready to buy my own. As soon as I had the money, the Swisschamp with pliers was out and got this instead. I was very happy and a faithful SAK lover ever since, although I never had many or collectibles, just users (XAVT is the first I keep for demonstration).
We should accept Swisschamp's father here.

I ordered a P-7 clip based on your recommendation. I also ordered a Gizmo clip. I will be curious to try it out. Cheers
By the way, this seller just added 3 more of the 35 dollar free shipping Swiss Champs on Ebay. Not a bad price. Mine arrived without a box but basically brand new with oil still on the tools. Id say these will go fast

Got The P-7 clip today! :mail: With the P-7 clip attached, you can't even tell you have the Swiss Champ in your pocket. Plus with the P-7, you have a the whole pocket bottom free. I was actually carrying my Super Tinker yesterday and thinking what a perfect size and feel in the pocket it was, but the P-7 has made carrying the Champ light as a feather. If you have the ability to carry 33 tools comfortably in your pocket, with the P-7 It almost seems like you have to EDC it. :)
I should note the the Gizmo clip I ordered was really not needed. The P-7 and the tiny ring attachment is perfect.
Thanks Sir Mike for the excellent recommendation.

Aside from a few small scuffs on the scales, this beauty looks like it saw almost no use at all! :tu:
My favorite eras are ´88-´90 (thicker pliers, no hook) and ´99-´05 (latest pliers with crimper, bottle opener with locking nub, but old mag and thick main blade).
I found a SwissChamp and SOS sheath and kit both with the world logo just recently!SwissChamp with SOS kit and sheath made for Muslim countries with restrictions against the Christian cross symbol.

My other Champ is the first model, with the thinner pliers, grooved corkscrew, scissors with a screw, and no hook. Gonna keep my eyes open for other variants now......
So I now have a Swisschamp after a long research of what Vic to buy. I'm mainly a pliers MT person, (Wave, Core, Swisstool) but wanted a more classic SAK to round out my collection. I essentially wanted a SAK with everything I could get (and not cost a fortune).
After some use and carry, there's only one word that I can use to describe my Swisschamp: Useful!
Can I join the club? Bought my first swisschamp from Tim :) The hardwood version

Looking for a Red model now.
I nearly bought one a couple months back.
I was poor and they were asking for more than I had.
Roughly what are they worth?

As promised, my favorite piece of gear!
Wow - some great variations posted to this thread. Congrats to all owners of this top model!!!!:ahhh :2tu: :2tu:
Here's mine:
The leather pouches are both model 4.0567. They are slightly different with one having velcroed side flaps and the other having belt loops to secure the side flaps. The white scaled Swisschamp has no pin and thus the granddaddy of this modest fleet.
I guess I'm now part of the club seeing as I picked up a SwissChamp XLT yesterday. I'm not exactly certain how I walked in the store wanting to buy a Pioneer and leaving with an XLT (http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/z380/bunnyhabbit/good%20night/smiley-sleepy-bedtime-good-night.gif)
Is the fish scaler the least liked tool?I don't fish so I can't comment on its de-scaling properties but I do think the ruler markings are handy. I've not used it yet as a fork, but it could be useful in that area too. The hook is growing on me. I was sceptical at first, but have heard of some practical uses like pulling stubborn zips on softtops and tents, and lifting hot pots (with wire handles) from fires. Parcels tied with string are quite rare these days.
I guess it's all personal taste - I love the hook!

Yes, the Awl is swapped around (ie nail nick isn't out) but that is great! Victorinox should sell those. One would be on my wall for sure. :) :tu:
Thanks - It was a lucky find on eBay.
The backtools are glued on with the Nail-nick facing out.
Not only is this a nice collectors item (There! I confessed I am one... ), but it also is a nice template for assembling SAKs and identify springs and liners.
Something strange. I have a couple of Huntsman Vics (blades, openers, scissors and wood saw) which I got very cheap second hand, but I never carry them as they feel too bulky.
However I carry my Swisschamp every day in the pocket of most pants, cargo, jeans, suit. Only on really tight ones I switch to a Wenger Traveller.
I don’t know… the Huntsman feels so… square and big for what it does, but the Swisschamp on its side is thinner than my wallet, doesn’t feel too heavy and you know you are prepared for any situation… Anyone feeling similar?
Today my NIB XLT arrived. :mail: So I'm in!
As far as I can say today: This is my absolute dream SAK.
I have my beloved Ranger for EDC.
I have my robust Harvester for outdoor activities.
But this is so awesome. Wasn't sure if it is not too big to handle it well.
No doubt it isn't. It fits perfectly into my large hands. :D
And as a bonus: The price was 99€. >:D
So for the rest of the day nothing can bring me back from cloud #9.
:climber:

those scales are sweet!
No shelf queens in my collection, they all have to earn their living. :D:drool: would it be asking too much for some closeup shots of the leather scales...??
I recently bought this Swiss Champ. It is my first "proper" SAK. I've always carried Leathermans ever since I start carrying a multitool a few years ago. So far I am enjoying it a lot. Been playing with this tool more than my LMs lately!

One of my favorite tools on the Swisschamp is the pliers so I would never get along with a Champion.

I do think the Cybertool 41 should be a member of this club too. It really is the modern SwissChamp.
I think I should get executive member status with this one.

how did this happen mate?
There are no broken tools. These is corrosion inside the actual housing which doesnt affect anything but if you are super fussy dont bother.
Thank you mate, an addictive hobby :)

YES! Now a member of the Swisschamp club. Black advertising scale grey mag glass and old file in very good shape. Now that I have a Champ I'm on a quest to use all 33 functions.
My latest Swiss Champ.

Cool... Thanks...
I only have 1 sak with inline sd... So no way to confirm...

So you do see a need for the fish scaler Harley?? !! :) :o^ get a grip Man, that's a daft question. SC every time! That could be true but I am pretty happy with my CT.
Not sure if the Saw and File are so needed for me.
Nice! Can't stand them! They cost too much and take up too much space. ::)

My only wish is that they would still sell the CT-41 in America.
I am trying to like it but the light on the CT-Lite is lame.
My Problem whit the Huntsman Light was to get this unusual Batteries now..
The Light was great if you dotnt carry another, but its just a LED and 2 Batteries..
For a future SAK, i would like the Light in the Pro Skales or integrated in the Bit Holder....
Huntsman,I'm beginning to believe the fish scaler is vital! It's so good for eating olives :drool:Good idea - Next cocktail/drinks party I go to, I am going to take a SAK for the olives - Will certainly turn some heads / solicit some comments :D
CT gets my vote for the most versatile EDC carry multi tool for the working man. I'm a technical service tradesman, not an IT guy, and this tool is unbeatable. A multi tool is never the tool of choice for heavy work, so for tasks in its weight class this tool is the most versatile, and best performing, MT I've found in 20 years in the field.Good to hear - I like it :tu:

Speaking of CT-Lite, any of you have a issue with the light turning on while it is in a sheath?Does the switch come on as your taking it out? Or do you think it had been on for a while?
Been carrying mine in my Wave sheath and twice now when I pulled it out the light was on.

I have a Question:
Is there any Tool on the Cybertool Series, you dotnt have on the Swisschamp XLT??
wouldnd need a new knife the next yeahrs but just aout of curiors..
I mean more the XLT comared to the biggest Cybertool they have..
Ok this also means the XLT also can used like a Cybertool..
Twoo SAKs in One..
Swisschamp EDC for over a quarter of a century. 4 specimens, one after another. Currently one older type of mag and file with new sapphire scales and one ruby scaled XLT with my wife's name on it.
Swisschamp is the King! XLT the Emperor! And XAVT is... well, something even mightier. The Emperor's wife perhaps? :)

The ruler is a nice touch. I do like the blue moon, but I'm not too picky with ales.
Infuriatingly off topic here; but was the Blue Moon any good? (I am a big wheat beer fan)
Still haven't used the scalar as anything other than a ruler, too, to keep things someway on theme! :)

I have a mid 80s swisschamp coming my way.
I received this Hoffritz Champ the other day. It's very similar to my Swisschamp that I bought around 1989-91 with the first SOS kit.The Hoffritz is missing one tool and doesn't have the plus-scales but it is like new with no marks or signs of use.It does however have the old style corkscrew, magnifying lens and scissors with the screw pivot.
Yep pre '85 Hoffritz Champion
So no pliers or pen
And post '83 due to 4 loops CS
Does it have Hoffritz stamped on the MB?
I like those Hoffritz Vics :)

Why yes, I received this one plus the leather pouch last week. Just a regular red cellidor Swisschamp. I got it because my Silvertech version was just too nice to use and it was missing the pin and pen. Good excuses, right? Ahem. Anyways, been EDCing it for a couple of days now and it has already been quite useful at work. Lovely little thing!

I would love a chance too see the back of that Alox. Curious to see how the corkscrew was accommodated.
I cannot believe some of the things that you guys make!
Some kind of custom 7-layer Alox" is also custom made, it's in fact Swiischamp in 93 mm frame minus fishscaler, backtools, pliers and can opener, plus second big blade, electricians blade and 93 mm awl.
My wife just bought me a yellow-scale Swisschamp engraved with my initials from dellasknives

I gotta start using my Swisschamp. But I have real trouble with using brand new tools, especially tools that are hard to fix if they wear out. I know the blades, scissors and saws can be sharpened. But once the file dulls you're SOL. Same with some of the screwdrivers, fixable to a certain degree, but a couple of good slips on the Phillips head and it is done for. But I have two Swisschamps, so I shouldn't be afraid to just use the darn thing. But it's almost too nice to use, ahh!

Re 'Confusing forum' - We can get a little unstructured sometimes in threads - In fact we seem to pride ourselves in going off topic :o
However everyone here, to a man and woman, is an MT nut, and we are very helpful and supportive to each other - as you will discover.
So if anything doe not make sense - Just shoot a question out - And it will be answered :D

OFC, the spatula would likely be a daily used thing, what with needing to mix sugar in my coffee every morning/afternoon/evening at work (they have REALLY poor stirrers at work, most of the time i have my own teeny spoon).
If there hasn't been one, perhaps we should make one for October or November, then? If there has been one, I want to read that thread too. :D+1 :tu:
I forgot to post here days ago when as some of you know I received a Swisschamp in a deal from Aloha, then I put yellow plus scales on it. Anyway I am not back in the club again and hope I will carry and use it.
Just curious but has there every been a SC 30 day challenge? If so, can someone shoot me the link as I like to read it.
Thx.

There was the FAT SAK month back in March - anything 5 layers or more: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,57797.0.html. I'd be up for a SwissChamp challenge, as long as I can use my XLT too.
Curious to see how you guys carry your Champ sized SAKs.

This set was on an Explorer that I got here on MTO so I just swapped scales. However, I do have some more coming in from Swissbianco via Ebay. They were $12 a set but he doesn't charge a flat rate for each set as you can order more than one set and pay the same for shipping if you wanted to. :)
I have more SC's than any other model, 14 shown here. Definitely the essential tool! :tu:
Not shown are a newer XLT with clear magnifier, which might become a donor (:ahhh) for my older SC that I carried for years, also not pictured. Also another '85 or 6 model with the thin pliers is on the way. 17 total so far, and trying to track down a few variations still! I prefer the older models which is why the XLT is in peril, but have not fully decided to take it apart yet because it's so nice the way it is. :)

So if you ever want to trade up(down) to a new XLT in exchange for your old one, let me know. After all the new file is really much better. ;)
LOL!!! Thanks for the offer bro but mine is a transitional model with the gray pre '04 mag and the '05 stainless file. Crummy pic but it shows the file well enough I think.
Aw man a stag SC would be the smurf  I just love this thread! :DI have more SC's than any other model, 14 shown here.
Very nice mate :salute: the stag sc is top of my dream wish list :salute:

Wow, that might be a rare bird! I guess I will have to donate organs and everything else now, but still that's an excellent model, the transitionals are very cool and unique. :tu:
So it's decided then, since I have a run of the mill XLT, and even though it's really really nice, I'm going to completely restore my old faithful SwissChamp using the XLT's pins and some other bits, particularly the file. I will have to disassemble another knife, I used the original corkscrew from my SC for an early mod, but I can use any old CS for that. I will try to keep as much of the original as possible, but replace all the damaged parts, with the thought that if I ever carry one again, it will be fully functional (like Mr. Data ) and ready to go. Hopefully I can assemble it right the first time, because the XLT has the only pins that I have that will work. Fingers crossed... :salute:
Maybe if I document the progress I will be eligible for a hacker award too! ;)

I hope you guys find one, it really is (along with the MOP SC) the pinnacle of my collection. Y'all would never regret having one. Cheers!
Thx.
OK.....where do you find yellow "plus" scales?

Ahh, more yellow Plus scales! What do I put them on is the question? CT41 or Explorer or another SC? :)

The only one that I've seen for sale was a custom and the owner added the stag scales.

Thanks, I really lucked out finding this a couple years ago, It's factory Vic and I picked it up for about $160 IIRC. There are still some floating around on fleaBay, but way newer and way pricey. I think there are still deals to be had, but it takes a lot of patience and a lot of web scouring. :)
That's half the fun of collecting though, isn't it?

There was the FAT SAK month back in March - anything 5 layers or more: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,57797.0.html. I'd be up for a SwissChamp challenge, as long as I can use my XLT too.
We could make it simple, and say seven layers and up. It would be natural to include all SwissChamp varieties, and probably the CT 41 and the Champion too.
Zoidberg's selling an XL here: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,61490.0.html
My Swiss Champ from 1985 after a visit to the spa! New file, new scissors, new pliers, new plus scales and scale tools. Mag glass and all other tools old, but polished and sharpened. How does that work, you just send Vic your old beatup SAK for refurbishment? Was there any charge?
So happy to have it back!

OK, count me in. Black SwissChamp riding my pocket or belt since 1999, taking over for the Champion I donated to my parents. I'd post a picture, but I think we all know what an SC looks like by now, right? 8)

Hope springs eternal, I guess. I swear though, besides a missing straight pin and a few scale dings it's exactly as the Swiss made it sixteen years ago. See for yourself:

The scale dings I think speak for themselves, but the missing straight pin is interesting. I was a computer admin running the servers for an application at an Army base. Well, the old Y2K bug was bearing down on us, so we brought in consulting programmers from the application's home company in India. The Indian lady, almost straight off the plane on her second day on-site, developed a "wardrobe malfunction" in her saree.
In that whole office, we couldn't find a single safety pin. I remembered the straight pin embedded in my SwissChamp and donated it to the cause, using the pliers to bend it to minimize any poking.
My $23 Swisschamp. Take the time and look on the bay you can score some great deals but you have to be patient and study the pic and description.GOOD deal my friend :tu: It looks to be in pretty good shape too.

That's one recurring observation with buying used from the bay or elsewhere, most knives and tools are dirty, some are really nasty, but underneath the grime, the majority is only lightly scratched and almost never sharpened after leaving the factory. My $23 Swisschamp. Take the time and look on the bay you can score some great deals but you have to be patient and study the pic and description.GOOD deal my friend :tu: It looks to be in pretty good shape too.
The only problem with it is a chip in the scales above the pen. When I got it some of the tools looked like they were never used and the blade's looked like they where never sharpened.
The bay has been good to me. Some of my better deals have been $3 Climber and $10 excellent+ pre 85 Craftsman

New to me Swisschamp. Newer model by the magnifier glass? Needed a bit of cleaning, but most of the tools still had a little oil on them. Sheath is not for me, it carries ok in the watch pocket of my jeans. Dangler would be backup plan, certainly not at the bottom of a pocket! :D
Oops! Main blade didn't make the first pic. It's there, really!

Awesome collection there, brother D! :tu:
Though I'm quite happy with my solitary black SwissChamp for now, collecting different models rather than different versions of same model... (because I'm always broke )
My 7 plus the XLT....with some Champions scattered in the background. Lousy pic, sorry.Oh... I didn't know about the corkscrew-side keyring being changed. I only have this one (1985):
The one above and right of the XLT is an early corkscrew side keyring version from '86 or so (I looked it up but have forgotten now).

Not sure what the exact year would be though!

USE IT!!!! :pok:
:D
I have a Ye Olde Original Outdoorsman which I use and carry, and it's one of my favourite SAKs to carry. I haven't replaced the scales on it yet, but I have a pair of plus scales tucked away in case these get damaged. Then again, I also use and carry a 25th Anniversary Wave, Sideclip, and a few other tools which people would consider collectible :D

Windson, that looks like a Variation 2 (88-91) I have one just like it. It needs the thin 2.5 mm pliers to be the first version (like Sir Mikes above) .
No. It's my original from 1985 that I sent in for refurbishment. It had the narrow, no-crimper pliers, but came back with the latest. I documented the changes in a thread here a couple weeks ago. The configuration it has now, with new pliers and metal file and old mag glass, ring attachment, etc is an impossible one.

The configuration it has now, with new pliers and metal file and old mag glass, ring attachment, etc is an impossible one.
Sorry, I guess I missed (or forgot about) that thread...was just going by the pic you posted there. Thanks for the new info...it explains a lot.
Looking good Zed!!! :2tu:
Okay I restored the old SC to its original red scales to keep it original since it has the thin pliers and I put the yellow plus scales onto another SC. I think it looks good! :)
It is pictured next to the yellow Explorer and the yellow SC.
That's a very nice one Zeph congrats!!!!!!

Btw, based on the seller's picture, is it a "1991" era SAK? No crimper and key ring on corkscrew side?

A good question and according to this >> http://www.e-webtechnologies.com/sak/Victorinox_Evolution_of_the_Swiss_Champ.pdf the black scales came out in '87, and the 3mm pliers in '88, so that makes it a solid '87ish model. Good work Z!

I can honestly say that I kicked myself for not looking for one of these years ago! Man, what a SAK!! I was worried about the size (that's what she said), but even though it is thick, it isn't uncomfortable in the hand.
Seeing pics here, and reading about them, and all the implements they have makes it sound like a cool SAK, but until you actually get one in hand, it's just WOW. There's so much awesome packed into this thing!!!!

anyone else got a 100 year SwissChamp? the ones with the 1987-1997 scales?
I ask because I have one, and noticed the pliers have the Crimper. mine is a high number (28230).
was wondering how many of the others have this plier crimper, or if some do not have it. Since the crimper was added in 1998 (as far as I know), this would to me indicate that this SAK was made in 1998, not 1997, as the scales would indicate.

Mine is #03190, with crimper. It looks to me like Vic does this with the collector models a lot, either introducing or discontinuing tools with a run of special models. It's a '97, but the crimper probably only appeared on this model until the old stock was gone, which is why the crimper is considered to have been introduced in '98. The '91 Anniversary Climber is a '91, but no hook and the hook appeared in '91. The '91 Oath of Rutli has '85-'86 pliers and grooved corkscrew which were both considered discontinued. :salute:

Looking into available info further, I found the pliers crimper appeared around 1995, so all the '97 anniversary SC's should have it. :salute:

Well my SC is a early 90's late 80's model. Man those were some good years. As for a XLT I am currently in negotiations with SG's grandkids for one.

This Christmas my Stepson and his Wife did a lot of Home made gifts. One was Altoid survival kit. Here's mine with my Swisschamp.Very considerate gift!
NIce find
I want to be in this club too. Almost same way like you, i have find my swisschamp from i guy who used it for breaking ice :twak:. I told him that it is not for that kind of use, and he sold it to me for 14$. Little better condition than yours, i cleaned it with old toothbrush, oiled it, and now it is my primary edc. I really like it. Sometimes people don't know what they own.
Chrome compounds are toxic, and it's not OK to use it on SAK. And i don't think that autosol would help much. Mine is a mate, but i don't mind because all tools are in good condition and after oiling everything works perfect.
I don't use my swisschamp for food very often, maybe sometimes to peel an apple, but i like to keep it clean (main blade wipe it with alcohol once a week) just in case you cut yourself. About autosol i dont think it is dangerous for ingest, because i suppose you don't use it very often. About those spots on liners you've mentioned, try polishing with toothpaste, sometimes it helps. I have used toothpaste for silver, and it cleans most of the spots and gives shine.
so glad that someone started this club. now I have one more thread to check every five minutes for something new. :ahhh() you leave it that long?

So jealous as I am still looking at some snow here!
My oldest son has had a SwissChamp for about a year now, and loves it! He's taking it with him when we go out on a hike this weekend.
So does the XLT count? It's scheduled for delivery tomorrow! I can't wait, I've wanted one of these for a long time now.
My original, regular swisschamp, probably mid or early 90s era, was stolen in a house move along with a fixed blade knife I had in the same drawer. They left my toolchest plus, which was sitting right next to it. I still have that, but it's horribly messed up.
So I start to carry the Swisschamp again today as part of my EDC.

The Hello Kitty company.
Actually that would probably be a pretty decent camo scheme in parts of the Colorado Plateau.
An another club for me to join! Yay! :climber:
Though I don't carry this anywhere anymore, it's used strictly indoors at home only - it has so great sentimental value. It's the first SAK I bought myself with my own hard earned money, back in 1990 and carried it for over the next decade.
It's also a good example of the Victorinox's excellent warranty. Because it was the earlier model with scissors with a screw. And at one point, when I was trying to tighten it, I managed to strip threads quite badly. So the scissors were rendered unusable and it was left it as it for a few years.
Then one day I ask about it, the local Victorinox representative, could it be repaired or something and for how much. They said that they'll look over and send it to somewhere (to the factory?). After a few weeks they contacted that it's ready to pickup - the scissors were replaced with a new style riveted version and for free, it didn't cost anything! :salute: :tu:

Eight and counting. :)
The Walnut is my most recent and I have been keeping it close at hand. The Super Timer is my most exotic and it has been spending most of its time in a box. I have an original Swiss Champ model and the latest Red and Black models (not pictured). I also have three used in excellent condition Swiss Champs that had their red scales changed from red to white, emerald and camo.

I was very interested in the XLT & XAVT and thought that I would get both of them. At the time, I had four Swiss Champs and eventually decided to hold off on the XLT and XAVT and added four more Swiss Champs instead. I think that if I didn't already have six Cybertools, I may have gone for an XLT.
The XLT looks great! Thanks for sharing!

Welcome to the boards Mapeteusz.
Presence of the hook makes it post '91, file makes it pre '05, absence of pliers makes it a Champion.
If it has pliers the date could be narrowed down further.
Hi,
Just bought another Swiss Champ. Judging from the tools it is post 1985 but I am guessing that the lack of pinhole makes it pre 2000 (I have a Supertimer with the pinhole under the corkscrew bought in 2000)
Tools all snap tight and blade is still sharp with not much wear. A little TLC and this will be my new EDC (Not taking my Supertimer out much as I have already lost one...story for another day)
It has an advertising logo I like but am unfamiliar with. Is anyone familiar and can anyone help me pin down the age to closer than my guestimate.
Cheers

I didn't even ask for one as cash is tight at the moment (dog's vet bills), but she got an amazing deal on it so it was a bargain. I'm a lucky man in so many ways. :D It's the latest one with clear mag (glass lens) and newer metal file.Nice one Mags! Glad to see the Jedi mind tricks are finally paying off!! :D

Her's my Swisschamp collection. Just scored a SC XL (bottom right). I've ordered several custom SC's
from Custom Scale Division and they have a ton of scale options.
Awarded. :tu:Thank you :)
A SwissChamp is a SAK that everyone should have. Lots and lots of fiddle factor and still (just about) practical to use all the tools. :D Lets be honest, it's the SAK that every child dreams about owning, right?

Right! I've wanted one since 2003. I finally get to one for my bday in 2 weeks :3 So hopefully I get to join the club too.

At last! My SwissChamp just arrived and am elated to be in this Club. Bought used but in excellent condition with sheath for$30. Shipped to a forwarding company and delivered to a local office here in the country. I'll try to make this part of my daily carry :mail: :like:No need to try.

I've got a Cybertool 41. Can I join?
Hmm - Very good question :o
Similar size and identical toolset for six layers
I know some folk here think this is a better SAK than the SwissChamp - and should possibly even be the official flagship for Victorinox
Or possibly a new hybrid.
For me though - You can't join  - Sorry - As it is not a Champ.
Need to join the Cybertool club.
What do other folk think ???
PS. BTW - If the application was solely based on the photo - You could definitely join!! :tu: :)

For now, I'll be bringing it with me by pouch carry

Today was Day 1 of my SC carry. Since I only carry a small pouch, I decided to leave my Charge TTi in the house and replace it with the SC. I'm a bit apprehensive though since we here in the Philippine capital are just waiting for the Big One (7.2 earthquake), and for now I feel more comfortable if I have the Charge rather than the SC with me in a major disaster.
But come to think of it, the SC has more tools and requires less maintenance when it comes to rust. Plus its a lighter and more compact carry than the Charge. Hmmmm.

If I had to choose only one, I would pick the Swiss Champ, but, in your situation, (during the days you are expecting the earthquake) you might consider carrying the Swiss Champ in your pouch, and using the pocket clip on the Charge TTI, clipping the Charge TTi inside your pants pocket, and you would have both on you in the event the earthquake hits.
Just a possible option to consider.

And a Swisschamp plus a Charge TTI? At that point he should also carry a tire iron and a full sized sledge hammer, cause it wouldn't be much more weight after carrying those two tools together!

The combined weight of a Swiss Champ and a Charge TTI is 15.4 oz, That is less then 1 lb.
Are you telling me you can't carry a mere pound of weight?
I am only 5' 8" and 140 lbs and I have no trouble at all carrying a pound of extra weight all day.
Just sayin' it would be no problem for me.
My YouTube adsense is doing pretty well this year. Might just wait a couple weeks and add that in to get a SwissChamp XLT for my bday instead. Dat spatula :climber:What's your YouTube channel?

Is there something like this for the SC?
I want a Champ, but I'm wondering how comfortable pocket carry will be. I pocket EDC a Craftsman which is pretty large. Perhaps I could pocket a Champ too, but it seems just a bit thicker than the Craftsman. So I'd b willing to use a case but not on a belt.
Options? Ideas?
Thanks.

Carry question for you SC champs. LOL!There is a sheath from Victorinox for the SC which has a rotatable clip allowing the wearer to clip the sheath to trousers without a belt, with detents that permit wearing it horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Maybe that is an option?

People just like to whine is all. "Oh nuuu 3 SAK layers instead of 2? That's just WAYYYYYYYY TOO MUCH. I'll never be able to carry that without breaking my back." Psh it's just a weird form of virtue signalling from people who spend too much of their time on the internet all day and not enough out there actually doing stuff. No hate but it is super pathetic.

If you wear jeans, you can cut material from the leg or back pocket of an old pair of jeans and make a pocket to sew on the right side between the right front pocket and the right rear pocket.
Since it is on the side, it does not get in the way when you sit.

Let me know what you think of the magnifier.
In fact, if anyone with experience can tell me how well it works for starting fire, I'd be grateful.

I used it a bit today, really like it. Lens is glass again now on the latest one so that's nice. I too was wondeeing about the fire thing so I looked it up on youtube and it seems to work fine, just need something with a lower ignition temperature. My favorite is the video of it lighting a cigarette, I'll have to try that sometime if I find a fresh one.

I just got a leather pouch I ordered for horizontal belt carry of my SC, made by a local leather shop for $7.50. The design is not perfectly cut, the leather is soft but seem study enough. I have mixed feelings about the result but it feels my SC won't accidentally fall off when I carry it. This now enables me to make the SC part of my daily carry, together with Super Tinker (in pocket caddy) and Leatherman Charge (in a bag)

Nice, I have a similar sized flip phone holster from a long time ago similarily sized. I'll have to try that out. I think my 4oz Pepper Spray can holster could do it too, that one is vertical tho.

I carry my SwissChamp in the pocket watch pocket aka 5th pocket of my jeans :D It slips in nicely and still has a little extra room. I have it in the pocket all day and don't notice it until I need it :hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff:
All this talk of Swiss Champs had me curious as to how many I have collected so I decided to do some SAK reorganizing to group like SAKs. It turns out that I have 11, one of which is a SuperTimer. I don't have a decent photo handy but am attaching a thumbnail picture.

Nice. I wonder if you can find the electronic 91mm scales like the XAVT has and buy them. That would be fun to put on the SwissChamp :D

It would be great if that was the case! There are other SAKs like the Traveller Lite, Voyager Lite & Altimeter Plus that have the electronic scales but I don't see any mechanism for replacement other than the Victorinox lifetime warranty. The Timer and SuperTimer are other examples of major scale functionality and I don't think that there are replacement scales available (otherwise, collectors could make their own Timers and SuperTimers): https://smartknives.com/Victorinox-Standard-Knives/SuperTimer.htm
Thanks, and that's my Pioneer X next to it.
I've been drooling over the prospect of an XLT... It has every single implement I desire on it, and just a few layers more than the classic SC.
Are those of you who own an XLT happy with it?
Yesterday, I used my SC to fix a stubborn spare bedroom door which just didn't want to catch.
I am super impressed with the strength of its pliers, which I used to bend the catch plate parts into better position. I have used them many times before but never exerted this amount of force.
One of the screws was a bugger and required a good deal of umph to turn. No problem for this Phillips- which did not waver, twist or strip in any way :tu:
The chisel has quickly become one of my most valued tools. Upon completion of the door project, a brief trip over the fine DMT brought it to razor sharpness.

My Champ club entry. My goto desk drawer tool for minor tasks. Don't use all of the tools, but when I need them, they are there. :climber:

I actually replaced a toolkit in my bedroom desk with the champ xlt. Takes up 1/8th the space as the toolkit. :) Works great on a lot of stuff!
Keep an eye out on ebay. I see pre-owned champs for good prices sometimes in good condition. Ya never know what you'll find. I got my Vic Spirit for $52 in near mint condition, because it was mis-titled. :)The more I hear mention of the XLT the more I want one! :):tu:My Champ club entry. Mags I miss the Greenwood! If the crew ever needs more space, I'll make the sacrifice and make room for it here! :DLOL! Thanks for the support Baz! I have plans for the Greenwood ( it lives on my desk so I handle it every day) which involves real wood scales. Sparky415 had some nice oak and walnut to give away at the meet so I'm going to try and makes some nice scales. :salute:
I finally pulled the trigger on a Swiss Champ. (Someone out there is flicking open all the tools on their Swiss Champ looking for the trigger). Should be here by the end of the week. One of the big reasons that pushed me over the edge is that three time in the past week, I've been out of the house and needed a ballpoint pen and didn't have one anywhere around. In addition, it has all the tools I like on my Craftsman plus a few more. How can I go wrong?Congratulations! Can't get wrong with an SC!

Congratulations! I am assuming that you bought a Plus version (Plus scales have room for a Vic pen but standard scales do not). It's brand new and advertised as having the ballpoint pen.

Okay older Swisschamps came without plus scales for sure. Can you buy a new SC today with out it though?Congratulations! Plus scales are relatively recent. Many of my Swiss Champs do not have Plus scales. Of course, it is an easy matter to swap existing scales for Plus scales.

I think we are seeing an increase in enthusiasm for the venerable Swiss Champ! I hope it continues!Unless a person is concerned about carrying a low profile SAK, it seems hard to go wrong with the SC.

The entire planet! :ahhh
Could you make some improvements please? Maybe disassemble London and the South East of England and replace it with a mighty forest - and a wooded corridor running North South from one end of the country to the other. Oh, and make Wales slightly higher - about 7 inches would do. Thanks :salute:
OOoooooo - can we have more caves please?

...I rarely use amazon anymore but they had it for only 61 dollars that time.Same here! The last time I'd looked at them, they were over $70 for the standard red celloid. Now they're practically giving them away over there. It's like Amazon MADE ME do it!

The Swiss Champ is a remarkable tool--not only supremely useful but durable as evidenced by your plus 25 years with one you purchased. I am very partial to the Swiss Champ and recently purchased my 12th SC. Among my purchases is the original model release that replaced the Champion (pictured as partially out of the tan pouch in the photo below):

The red leather sheath with red thread is a Victorinox product. If you are referring to the red knotted lanyard coming out of a sheath, that is custom. The only other custom in the photo is the tan leather sheath.

Thank you, FB! I am really happy to have this special SAK. I remember seeing one of your Swiss Champ line-ups that featured an XAVT and perhaps an XLT. If you have it handy, Perhaps you could share it either in this thread or the Swiss Champ Sunday one. BTW, happy Swiss Champ Sunday! If I remember correctly, you have a yellow scale SC for such an occasion.

My new Swiss Champ is taking the maiden voyage today!
This will be the first time out of the box and in the pocket since I got it a couple days ago.
Yesterday, I was working in a dirty fireplace around abrasive brick surfaces and just couldn't stomach the thought of trashing my new SC on Day 1, so I used my Craftsman.
The addition of the SC to my arsenal slides everything down a slot. I was EDC'ing my Craftsman on my days off and packing a Deluxe Tinker in my work bag. Now the DT is in the closet. The Craftsman will be my work bag SAK and the SC will be my EDC "at home" SAK.
At work, I wear scrubs and since I work in a penitentiary, I can't take any cutting or fire starting tools inside; so, the work bag actually stays in the car. By far, the EDC SAK sees much more action than the work bag SAK. In fact, the work SAK is simply a food prep knife and probably could be replaced by almost any other knife.
The more you KNOW, the less you carry. The less you know, the more you carry. ~Mors Kochanski
Hmmmm, I can't recall exactly, but I do think it's XAVT, XLT, Swiss Champ, then I think the last is the big Cybertool.

You don't want to see the tip of the main blade though, at some point I must have tried to pry something and it's a tad bent, not much, but enough.
I really need a dedicated pry tool on a SAK. One that is in the inline configuration, and not a back tool.Haven't you already got two - A thick one and a thinner one ..... using the openers ??? Naughty girl for using the blade :twak:
SAK blades are quite easy to straighten FB. Best to have a vice and a pair of strong pliers or mole grips.
Put the SAK in the vice with the end just poking out above the bend - Then bend the tip over with the pliers ....
It's a little nerve racking as the steel bends a surprising long way before it straightens - So go a little at a timeI really need a dedicated pry tool on a SAK. I am having the color delima also. I have several of the different colors with plans for more but right now I' m liking this a lot.

I've been lining up some of my SAKs and noticed that the SwissChamp is a tad trimmer than my EDC plus a Compact on top....so essentially a very manageable carry. :tu:

No better medicine!!
Yesterday, my day at work was pretty bad, so I was feeling down when I returned home. To make myself cheer up a little, I unpacked a SwissChamp a brand new I hadn't gotten around to wipe down for excess oil, remove the stray Cellidor threads from the production, check everything was OK, and so on. 15 minutes later, my mood was transformed. :tu:

I have serous misgivings about this enormous tool. Looks heavy.
Would I need to check with my doctor before trying to EDC one of these behemoths?
I've been admiring the Swiss Champs for years, but I still don't have one. The thing is, I've got a Champion and I've got a CT-41 and I can't imagine the Swiss Champ doing anything for me that the other two don't already do. :dunno:

Sorry, but I have a dumb question.
I know Spartans and climber scales are 91mm as is the SC.
Will those scales fit a Swisschamp?
They have some cool transluscent colors I want to put on a SC and was
just confirming that I won’t have any issues putting them on.
Thanks in advance for any answers.

Random SwissChamp musing of the day: I'm never quite sure which tool to use as the "touch an icky gross thing" tool. Use the awl, and risk getting gross stuff stuck in the sewing eye? Use the screwdriver tip of the can opener, and risk contaminating food later on? Use the tiny awkward flathead on the backside of the fish scaler layer? Please not the toothpick. Maybe using the tip of the fish scaler is best, since the long scaler keeps me as far away from the icky gross thing as possible.
Maybe Victorinox needs to create a new tool simple called The Probe.
Buzz, I have a solution. Those plier/tweezer things can hold a prodder at a good distance, keeping you away from the nastiness and keeping the SAK bacteria free! Simply dispose of prodder after use.
It’s a excellent SAK to carry and use I still use mine a lot :tu:

Well done!!!!
After 4 years of Swisschamp ownership I have been actively carrying mine 24/7 and honestly I don't think I will be switching to anything else anytime soon, outstanding bit of kit.
The “SwissTank” is pretty close to SwissChamp perfection for me.
Can I join? Briefly, I have been a knife/multitool guy for the last 5 years. Trying different ones. I have to tell you, the SwissChamp is now my EDC. We will see if that changes anytime soon, but I work on so many different things, I am afraid to be without the vast tool selection. I forgot it one day and had to resort to my older Leatherman "SuperTool?" in my car. So cumbersome to open it up and pull out a tool. Was not comfortable in the hand at all. Granted, It is made like a tank, but most of what I am working on, the SwissChamp works out great. Also note I bought my SwissChamp used but in like new condition for $25, such a great deal!!!
Simply sharing.
PS, I am sure you have all noticed that is not a Guiness in the Guinness glass. I love Guinness, but it happens to be a Hamms in the glass.
Swisschamp...a more elegant tool from a civilized age :D
What I think about the Champ .........see my sigline ...............old pick, may have to add something.........
Hi Intorikata you are correct. The Silvertech scales do not support the pen or the pin.
As a new member to this forum, I guess this is the first club I must join if ever I want to be taken seriously by you ladies and gentlemen.
For sentimental reasons I acquired the pictured Champ about two months ago to replace its predecessor, which had served me well during my student years and got lost abroad in 2005. For more than a decade I had lived happily with just a Hercules, Tradesman and Minichamp dwelling in my drawer. Now this unassuming Champ sent me right down the rabbit hole and two months and more than a dozen new SAKs later, here I finally am...
Welcome ST, and it looks like you’re well-organized with your carry option there too! :like:

Many thanks, glad to be aboard. Learned about the P-7 in this forum, of course;-)
@ Ray (don't get how to insert multiple quotes yet or maybe it's just my phone): I like the Hercules a lot, it's a tad too big though (and, alas, a tad too illegal in many countries). Cannot figure out why I bought the Tradesman though. No scissors in such a big tool? What a waste.
@ Buzzbait: Beautiful scales!

Sorry for butting in between the great photos, but I wanted to share I've lately EDCed a SwissChamp a lot because it's such a comfortable pocket carry. If the weight isn't an issue, it works because the 33 mm of tool layers makes it very stable upright (in my case in a Saktory microfiber pouch in a front pants pocket). The stability actually makes it more comfortable than many thinner knives. It's so contra-intuitive I thought it'd be fun to add in here.
Thought I'd add my new-to-me SwissChamp:

greetings, experts. I have a Swisschamp. The outer liner of my knife is bent.I'd try a C-clamp and use some of the suggestions above. I'd open the Caplifter/SD too, to press the bent liner against it.
1. Because I love and appreciate this tool, do you know the right non-destructive way to fix this problem?
2. Is there a possibility to repair without removing the scale?
The answer from you experts will be very appreciated. Sincerely Thanks
Hi abwaluyo
This is the layer next to the cap lifter/large flat driver.
Unfortunately there is no easy way to repair a bent liner at the pivot area.
Without the opportunity of inspecting the knife, it’s difficult to make an assessment.
You could try pressing the SAK together in a vice between layers of hardboard for protection. This may help press the liner flat without removing the scales. (Fold the CS out to prevent pressing it).
.....
I'd try a C-clamp and use some of the suggestions above. I'd open the Caplifter/SD too, to press the bent liner against it.
If that doesn't work, you're probably best off sending it to Victorinox for warrantee repair. I don't see why it wouldn't be free aside from shipping.
Thank you very muchCorkScrew, at a wild guess... ;)
What does the CS stands for?
I have used every tool on the SwissChamp but
the fish scaler is probably been used the least
Some folks will hate me for this but I've never been a huge fan of the pliers. :-[ Add a lot of thickness to the SAK and I wouldn't miss them if they were gone.
Some folks will hate me for this but I've never been a huge fan of the pliers. :-[ Add a lot of thickness to the SAK and I wouldn't miss them if they were gone.
I have two Swisschamps. A red and a blue transparent one. Both users. I carry the SC vertical in my right front pocket, hanging from a Vic steel belt hanger. The Swisschamp is a very usefull tool and i don't consider it heavy or big. I love SC
I love my SC!
I'm fairly new to SAKs, up to three weeks ago I only had an excelsior (which doesn't really count), and now I have... 7. :o
The SC was my fourth, and first 91mm. Having bought a 58mm, 84mm and 93mm, I knew I needed a 91mm, but how to choose? Fortunately I stumbled upon a helpful Amazon review (unfortunately I can't find it to credit the author), that essentially said:
"buy a SC so you don't have to worry about which tools you want but don't have, once you have everything you can begin to decide how to downsize"
Of course, I was well on my way to becoming a Knight, so this made perfect sense to me. But I can honestly say I'm glad I followed this suspect logic; the SC exceeded my expectations. I never knew I needed a magnifying glass; the backside tools have been fun to find uses for; and I'm even enjoying the fish scaler! Great for cutting polystyrene foam.
(https://i.ibb.co/YysDxq2/sc-poly.jpg) (https://ibb.co/P9HTdfx)
I can tolerate pocketing it when I'm spending the day doing DIY. It fits in the 5th pocket fairly well, and the size when handling it just gives a better grip.
(https://i.ibb.co/0GRdSsN/sc-pocket.jpg) (https://ibb.co/BC5SxnD)
I was surprised that the girth did not affect even the chisel.I've settled on 2 layers of any length to be my upper limit of thickness for daily carry, so I'm glad I didn't spiral down the 91mm rabbit hole of hiker, climber, huntsman, etc.
(https://i.ibb.co/s5gc1z4/sc-chisel.jpg) (https://ibb.co/cbyR8V9)
In short, I would consider the SC a mandatory purchase
Posted this in the latest acquisition thread but thought I'd toss it in here for anyone browsing the biggy mac champ :D

I have an idea for a very useful mod for this one. I'm still planning to see if I'd be able to get it right as it'll be a bit tricky -- have never seen it done before. Nice thing is the mod wouldn't remove any of the existing functions, only add.
Don’t forget to use your SwissChamp BM :pok: :D
You might have to remind him again hotrod :D
Wow Frailer that is a nice one. You didn’t get it from watchutalkinbout did you? That would be a bit of a “small world“ moment.
Thanks so much. It can be a gamble there like you said. I stated on a different thread that it’s best not go over your set comfy amount on auction sites as many here probably already know to be cautious. Just got my latest in today! A new Cadet. My first one with their new file design. Sorry, forgot I was on the champ thread so included is my yellow Champ as well.

I'm in! I finally bought a SwissChamp, in celebration of returning to work as an engineer! I'm sure the magnifying glass will come in handy for reading small print on charts and diagrams in the office.Welcome to the club! Great SAK, as all of us here will attest to!
I will! Thanks for the welcome.I wouldn't call it a trick, but I've found that some tools are easier to open with my left thumb and some are easier with my right thumb. Maybe try the other thumb?
I've been carrying my new SwissChamp for a day now, and I've already discovered one thing that I wish I could change: the location of the nail nick on the main blade. I had just trimmed my fingernails before the SwissChamp arrived, and I'm finding it very difficult to "pinch" the main blade in order to open it. I'm not used to reaching across seven layers of tools to get my thumbnail into the nail nick.
Are there any tricks to opening the blade, besides keeping a longer thumbnail? Right now I'm having to use my middle finger to get enough purchase on the blade.

Thank you for the welcome guys. One is hardwood the other us rosewood. I picked those around 2005-2006, also have swisschamp versions with genuine horn, staghorn, mother of pearl scales, along with the classic cellidor ones.
It is a shame Victorinox doesn't use such scale materials anymore, they were really great. At least hardwood returned with their wood collection, albeit without toothpick and tweezer slots.

Wish I knew where my old SC went to.
Nice one HG, I have been shopping for new scales and I am back and forth between black or emerald. That black sure looks good.
I have some custom micarta scales for it that I ain’t put in yet.
I have bought the Swisstool Spirit X a few weeks ago, then I bought the Explorer right after. And now I see the SwissChamp with 50% discount on Amazon? It's only €38,00 and I did order it without thinking.
But €38,00 seems a little bit too cheap? Does Amazon sell second-hand stuff or something like that? Or are high discounts very common on SAKs at Amazon?
Never seen one for 50% off. Have you received it yet?
That seems like an incredible price for a new one. Here in the States they're going for around $100 USD.
The only thing: the saw is touching the file while opening and closing the file or saw. Is there a way I can fix that?Mine, bought only a couple of years ago, was like that brand new. Metal saw definitely leaning in toward the woodsaw.
It looks like the saw can be moved more to the other side.
Used my Swisstool Spirit X to fix it! Thanks for the help!

Here is a post by me from an older thread.. You should quickly be able to tell if you have the newer version with the glass magnifier, or the older version with the plastic lens.

That is an old one Buzz. I think a lot of Swisschamps spend their time in glove boxes and drawers.
I just broke out this beauty today, to take some pictures for the 2023 Champ Challenge. I believe this is a first generation SwissChamp. I’m not an expert, but it has all of the hallmarks that I know of.
It would be perfect if Reginald Seymour Dillydally hadn’t had his initials put on the rear scale. Actually, I can’t complain. Reginald was kind enough to place this knife and pouch in his bedside drawer, and never use them for almost 40 years. I don’t know if that’s his real name. It could very well be Rudolph Sherlock Droopydrawers.

It’s only when you look closely at these early SwissChamps, that you notice how very many tweaks and changes they’ve made to this model. A very subtle evolution.
Nicely done. That is a ton of layers to stack back together!!!:hatsoff: Thanks Buzzbait - Sure was! My fingers were stiff this morning.
For years I told myself the Swisschamp model was too thick and heavy to be of much use to me. I viewed it with suspicion and thought it might be more of a showpiece than a usable knife. Spending time on this forum is not such a good idea if one prefers to stoutly hold on to such views. Watching videos about Swisschamps on youtube is also not indicated for anyone stubbornly sticking to these ideas.
Finally, I caved and bought an ordinary, garden variety, red Swisschamp. Of course this precipitated an orgy of fiddling and I left the knife on my desk. And I find myself using it all the time! Turns out it's not that big and heavy or exaggeratedly over the top. Whaddya know.
