It would be really interesting to see LM revisit the Mini , it would be a much better tool if they built it now , but LM has little reason too because of the success of the Micra & Squirt.
Look what they did with the Wave a vast improvement and the Pulse (although retired was a replacement for PSTII) wasn't it :think: Plus the ST which is now the Core. I would love to see a new version of the :ahhh !!!MINI!!! :ahhh :D

I've actually seen one in Black , though I got the stainless variety.
I must say I'm a big fan of the tool. It might not be the most useful multi but, as other have said, it is an interesting concept and an example of innovation (even if it wasn't that successful). It feels very solid when opened up and the pliers work well. Its more of a collectors piece really, but I imagine would pair up very nicely with a larger SAK and provide some useful portable pliers.

Problem with this little gem is that all the tools need to be really stubby to go in ::)

The lack of "USA" on the blades is pretty consistent with any of the tools that say "TOOL" on the plier heads from what I've seen, all across the LM range.

Nope, first there is the workshop* cleanup project to complete :( Dull but necessary.
* Workshop is a glorified title for the lean-to at the back of the house. On the bumf that came with the house its actually listed as a conservatory ::) Still I thank my lucky stars that I don't have a wife who wants to put a sofa and potted plants in it :D

The only Mini I have pre-date codes, came in a bit of a state and unboxed.

Dennis - I have a pre date code mini, and it looks identical to yours, I.e. the makings on the pliers are backwards. You'll notice other differences in the pliers too - but yer need to look close!

It took me nearly three months to find a replacement so when I had a chance to grab another as a backup I did.

The Mini Tool really is a nice compact tool and it is comfortable when using the pliers because the smooth sides of the fold out section on the handles are next to your hand.

All this MINI chatter and pics from you geared me up to buy one! Won it on Ebay last night for $40. Supposedly it is unused, but we shall see.
I was trying to cool it for a while on MTs over $20. Now I have a $40 MINI on the way. I don't even care for MTs with so few tools, but the plier system...that unique folding plier system. :drool: :drool: :drool:

I hope so too. I’ve put it on my keychain but it feels a little bit bulky there. I like the idea of having decent sized pliers without carrying something on my belt though. I’ll probably get over the bulky feeling, it feels like its there to stay :cheers:

Turned out not to be that regular after all.
Got myself a brand spanking new Leatherman Mini Tool :ahhh
He actually had 2 so there is one left for you guys if you'll be in Cork city and time soon :pok:
That brownish residue you can see on the fully opened tool inside the handle was some old oil.
Cleaned up nicely.
Man, I love that thing :tu:

It folds smaller than I thought, and all is solid when deployed.
After a careful little sharpening I even like the blade :tu:

Aaaaand while I changed my mindset from collector to user it didn't take me long until I decided to modify the flat screw driver to a #2 Philips :D
It now fits perfectly into all #2 Phillips I have around here with no play or wobble and has a very good bite.
It also works well enough for those smaller ones on power sockets (see pic) and is still wide enough at the tip for med to small flat head.
It's too big for normal #1 Phillips though, but that's ok.
Steve did replace the blade with a new designed 2d Phillips. Really great mod Steve :tu:
But I do like the small blade very much (just needed a tiny little careful sharpening) so I went this way instead.
Btw, although it's a user now I will keep the box and papers etc.

Speaking of, I have one on order from a company who makes really high quality sheaths. It's going to be in a similar shape to that one but bespoke for the mini, I gave him the exact dimensions. Should have it in a month at which point he will no doubt advertise them by name.
New to the mini myself, absolutely love it. Obviously it has it limitations but they're all outweighed by the fact that it's small enough that you can pocket it anywhere anytime. Try that with a surge!
I will shape the end of the file to take Philips like the 2D one on the micra, I'm guessing that's been done before here.
