Benner has (had?) a couple of these at one of the meet-ups last year.  I seem to remember that they were roughly equivalent to the Vic Pioneer range i.e. using the bigger tools found on the 93mm Soldier.  Very nice anyway Dan.

I remember seeing an entire brochure with a dozen or more varieties on it over on SOSAK. I don't remember where or who posted it.

Here it is!

That`s a foto of a printout I took a longer time ago. I also have the original pdf-data on an older computer (I`m not sure if it still works).
There has also been an older Professional-series (from the 60s) with some other variations (1-3 layers). These knives looked like the ones in the fotos but they had no outer metal-liners under the scales; they were very light but probably not as solid as the newer ones. Beside the tools in the brochure there has also been knives with a marlinspike. But these marlinspikes look somehow cheap compared to the nicely-shaped ones of the 93mm Victorinox alox knives.

Here is an example for an old Profi knife from 1966. As you can see the old ones in the 60s and 70s had just plastic scales. I`m not sure when Wenger changed to the more solid scales.

I've the same model with the just plastic scales with the Yearstamp 80. It seems the old and new scale models were sold at the same time. At least for some years....

Maybe, or 1980/1981 was the time when they changed the design. I think a knife with a 81-stamp was the oldest one with the new design I`ve seen so far. And your 80-stamp knife is so far the youngest one with the old design I`ve heard of.

Good combined, but.... I've a new design with 79 stamp. ;-)

I remembered seeing one of these on ebay recently and was able to dig it up in the completed auctions.  People are willing to pay a pretty penny for one in good shape:

Talking of dated blades mine is a late one 95 BTW. perhaps they did not produce them every year ? perhaps they waited till they had a backlog of several years dates before it was worthwhile doing a production run? This might explain the confusion. Just a thought  ??? ???

A bit of necro, but...

Did Wenger ever do an SIish alox model with some of the extra tools in the Professional Line. A "Harvester" with a hollow rivet would be cherry.

Does Wenger do any special releases like Vic has been doing with alox for the last bit?  It would seem that Wenger can only do the plain no shield alox these days which suggests one mold is worn out (or they are buying the blanks from Vic), but it would be cool to see some interesting models come out as a swan song for Wenger.

Cheers

Wenger has done a few commemorative versions of the SI, but I've never seen any blade variations. Maybe an interesting project for one of the modders.

Colo,

Do you know if anyone on the boards has the ear of Wenger?  I have an idea (which might be kinda silly).  A red alox Handwerker for the MTO folks would be amazing!  See if a run could be produced before the business model changes, if it isn't too late!

You might talk to Def. I've made suggestions to both companies and never even got a 'Thank you for your interest' letter.

Agree with you that the Vic alox are better; certainly sturdier.

FINALLY got myself one of these. From a member here actually.

85 dated blade, has tools similar to a Vic Farmer, but no awl. However the can opener is the Wenger style and makes a rudimentary awl for punching holes in belts etc.

This one has nothing. The main blade is on a Solo type spring.

I really like the look of those - just a bit different to other scale shapes etc.
So how do the tools compare to Vic?

Never seen one up for sale though... would be interested if anyone gets bored of one they have :D

The tools are closest to the 93 mm alox line on the Victorinox. Because the Profis are all old their tools are also usually machined in old time style, not tumble polished, etc. Think old style, coarse, 93 mm SAKs wrapped in think soft but solid red plastic, with exposed brass rivets.

I had to get myself a few to taste. They are nice but I will stop here collecting them, I have enough.

One more closer pic to give a better idea of how the tools are made:

Why didn't Wenger ever go into the 93mm alox market (besides the SI)?  They had all the parts already?  Differentiation?  Lower price?

One is enough for me. I have wanted one for a long time and been outbid at least half a dozen times. It's nice and is the later(?) model with Al liners inside the scales.

Won't ever be a user, more of a curiosity piece.
