Of course it would need oiled afterwards, but it shouldn’t hurt it, right?

Right. :tu:

You'll probably wear down the alox a bit, though. I washed some aluminum field cooking gear (not hard anodized) in the dishwasher, and won't do that again.

No offense, but i can't understand, for the life of me, why would anybody would want to wash his Sak on a dishwasher along with the dinner dishes and silverware... ???
For me its a joy to bother and catefully hand wash my tools and oil it afterwards.
But to answer your question, yes it would hurt it, especially alox ones. Don't forget dishwasher detergents use salt, and it's all thrown at high speed in there that causes friction and wear on the materials. Salt ruins and corrodes aluminium badly.
I wouldn't do it, but that's only my personal opinion

I’ve never done it. Was just curious. Doubt I ever would even if everyone said it was ok.
I might invest in a small ultrasonic cleaner though.
More than likely I’ll just continue to wash them, when needed, by hand.

I’m guessing that would ding the blade edge, scissors, etc.

I've never been tempted to put a SAK in the dishwasher but, can and should ultimately is the question. Sure you can but I think part of the pleasure of SAK maintenance is the methodical approach of hand cleaning. I find it relaxing while also giving the SAK a good inspection at the same time.

My alox MiniChamp went through a 30 minute program in a washing machine at 40 degrees. No harm done, and it came out clean.

That sounds like a program I would use for delicate clothes. ;)

Ok. I see I ventured the wrong direction. I’ve never washed a pocket knife in the dishwasher. Definitely won’t ever do it after all these comments!!
Thanks guy!!

Yes, you can put an Alox in the dish washers. And YES, it will damage the aluminium slabs slightly!
I've done it on a 140 minutes full circle program with an older Vic DAK KLxx. The surface of the aluminium was definitely sort of corroded. It had a rougher structure, although still smooth, and the aluminium was too shiny.

Probably the salt in the diswashing tablet that corodes the Alu?
