Congrats, Neil!
When were those made?
-
This one has 75 on the tang. I'm not sure when they stopped production, I saw one or two still for sale on a site last year but how old the stock was I couldn't guess.

yep tell us,atleast i dont know much about those, ive seen only one in my life and that was in some collectors photobucket link :tool:
-
Did some searching but I can't work out any specifics.
Some kind of Euro-Farmer?
More info.
-
All I know is that they are 93mm and at least some of the parts are left overs from the Wenger military contract. This is the only one I've ever had. They are not a common knife.
More praise to Kwakster is due now I think (http://www.knifeforums.com/forums/images/smilies/bowdown.gif)

Wenger military contract :o :o :o :o :o?
what kind of knife did they order from wenger?
so your folder has no plastic at all?
id say wow and drool hundred times now.
-
Wenger and Victorinox each produce half of the military knives for the Swiss Army. Victorinox makes the Soldier (you have one of them ;) ) and Wenger makes the almost identical Standard Issue (SI).
The handles/scales of this Handwerker are plastic. What I was surprised about was the lack of liner between the tools and the scales.

VERY nice!
I love those brass liners.
-
well who wouldnt, brass is so good looking, yet affordable.some old man told me once, that in past, using brass in knifes was mark of a quality item, since they didnt have so much,if at all, stainless steel back then, and brass was used to prevent malfunctions, and probems caused by rusting,in swiwels, joints, etc etc.

Quit talking and hurry up with some pictures! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v307/jooliesews/Bobbys/smileys/jumping41.gif)

It look's odd having no liner's though
-
Here's a couple I picked up off the 'bay a while back:

The marlinspike on the '66 is in the middle of the knife, instead of replacing the awl as it does on the First Mate.
I have not seen that style of marlinspike before.

Have you any idea when they stopped making them Andy?

I've also included a couple of tools comparison shots, on the pruning blades the Wenger is bottom and the blade from a 93mm Vic. is top. Then, just to be confusing, with the saws, Wenger is top and a new Farmer is below.

man, that is so nice little knife
-
Damn I want one
-
i need a sak-rehab,thats all. :D
-
Same tools as the Victorinox Pioneer Harvester (081.50.26) minus the bail and the saw blade is on the opposite pivot.
Very nice I would love to have one, congrats on your find. ;)
-
I really like that these knives have bails! If only more did, I think it gives a nice old skool look to a knife.

I think bails are a thing of beauty, but guy's like us are still in the minority I guess :(

Here is one I found. http://picasaweb.google.com/stressmaster5000/ILoveSAKS?authkey=kRoKkuAFmgM#5185481018120270482
----OK could not get the photo to show up here so here is a link---
My knife has alox side liners up against the handles and brass in between the layers. What is up with the strange finish or steel of the main blade? It seems very different from any other Wenger I own. It is not as shiny and there are tiny little lines/ridges running uniformly through the blade in the short direction. The blade looks like it has never been resharpened and barely used, and marked with 80 on the back. I understand the date code and that these were made from "leftover" parts, but are these inferior parts?
-
It is just a difference in the finish. They are just less highly polished.
There's some nice knives in that album :D
Neil
-
can i drool over it? :D
well i can drool and Touch my own now, this is awsome old folding knife indeed. :salute:
