Title: Your EDC jewelry
Post by: Pacu on December 20, 2009, 02:13:36 AM
Here is my edc jewelry....just a Timex Ironman and my wedding ring. Usually leave the ring in the safe as to not loose a finger at work (construction).

Wedding ring, silver tribal design ring that I've had for 11 years (wow!), Casio G-Shcok Mudman in green (yum!) and a white gold St. Christopher medallion necklace.  Oh, my glasses, but I don't think those count as jewelry.  :D  Cool topic...I'm anxious to see how this one is gonna get derailed :P

Right this minute, 2 white gold rings from me bird, a black monster on a brown leather strap, a cutout old 3d coin from Ireland with a Hare on it and a heavy silver chain with an ankh and a replica 13amp fuse made out of silver - long story involving a kettle and bread knife and me flying across the kitchen :D

Today it's my yellow luminox & my carbide wedding band (that replaced the titanium I beat up). Tomorrow it'll be the Orange Monster back from repair, yesterday it was my Marathon Tsar. I rarely ever wear my 5.11 HRT any more, just so damn big. Oh, & as always, my Dave22 swiss cross on a ballchain Gadg uh, I mean UnSub was so nice to send me!

As far as jewelry goes I only wear a watch and wedding ring. The ring I wear is actually unique in that it was made for me out of a 1899 Barber half dollar. My wife had one made as well out of a 1901 Walking Liberty half dollar. We actually chose to have these made over buying traditional wedding rings because we both really enjoy knowing these rings were made (by a friend of mine) specifically for us and we provided the exact coins we wanted used which is very special for us and holds great sentimental value knowing they are one of a kind, made specifically for us, out of the coins we provided, and represents our union as partners in this life together. Another huge upside is it did not cost us even a fraction of what traditional wedding rings would of. I got real lucky.  :D

I wish I could post pictures. I may have to take a picture and have another member post it for me.

Culturally male wedding rings aren't really a thing here but I've worn this necklace since I got engaged, my wife has the other half of the heart which was specifically first cast whole and then split to our order. On one side is engraved the Hebrew initials of a verse from the Song of Songs and on the other is the names of our children. Back then it was silver, all we could afford but over the years we've upgraded both the pendant and chain to gold and of course added the kids names.

Don't do any other jewellery I'm afraid, again a cultural thing. Male jewellery has to be extremely subtle not to invite connotations of bling, etc.

I wear 3 necklaces (2 silver and 1 gold)  all the time that I got for my 16th, 18th & 21st Birthdays respectively, and I have my left ear pierced 4 times (since I was around 17 or 18 I think) and still wear earrings in them all the time.  The oldest necklace seems to be a softer silver one and I've had to have the clasp replaced a couple of times, but the other 2 are chunkier and never had a problem with them.

I take it all off/out regularly and clean it in my little ultrasonic cleaner but other than that I wear it all, all the time. I think the last time I removed it for any length of time other than for cleaning was in 2012 when I broke my back and was having many mri scans and xrays.

I regularly wear a plain yellow gold wedding band, and Bulova moon watch with a steel band. My only other piece of jewelry is my high school ring, a large white gold monstrosity with a gawdy blue stone,  a dragon design down one side, a phoenix down the other. I've worn it once in the past 20 years,  to embarrass my wife when we took our rings in for cleaning,  but it's so ugly, it otherwise doesn't get worn lol.

I wear a watch and a wedding ring. I don't consider the watch jewelry, but functional.

I wore a white gold wedding band for 10 years, but last year switched to a groove silicone band. I somehow stumbled upon pictures of ring avulsions, and got spooked. The groove ring has worked out nicely. Won't win any style point, though.

Ring avulsions. Thanks  :-\

Won't stop me from wearing my wedding ring, though. I don't work around machinery enough to make it really an issue.

Yeah, the risk is certainly low outside of certain occupational hazards.

I likely would've switched back to my regular wedding band, but I also have fairly skinny fingers with bigger knuckles. My gold ring is sized to fit over the knuckle, but fits loose around my finger. This makes it more prone to snag on things, but it also just got in the way. I didn't realize how much I subconsciously compensated for it until I switched to the silicone ring.

Another benefit is that my gold ring would often clack on the frets of my guitar as I played and moved up and down the fretboard. Don't have the problem with the silicone ring.

That's exactly the reason I will never wear a ring. And you don't need to work with machinery. Slipping on ladder will work just fine. Or any other activity where you catch the ring on something...

I was equally put off by necklaces made of hard to break cordage without any provisions fo safely breaking under to much load.  :ahhh

I am not a 'jewelry' person and have never considered a watch jewelry, although there have been times when I have had to remove my watch during a "no jewelry" activity such as working on large mechanical equipment where you really don't want your fingers or hand to be pulled into a machine. Besides "Dog Tags" I have only worn a wedding ring for a few months and that is still debatable with my wife as I would  :surrender:remove it for military issues, come home, shower and then not put it back on. Needless to say, as a young man and newly married, I really didn't understand the 'big deal' and it took a few months of 'ass chewing'  to get me to concede  the point. So, in my ever infinite wisdom I got this...
(https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1930/30766493317_630b9a00be_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/NSJjzk)GP'sWeddingRing (https://flic.kr/p/NSJjzk) by Grandpa Patch (https://www.flickr.com/photos/95406299@N04/), on Flickr
So now the story gets better! >:D she (my wife) is furious with me getting a 'ball n chain' tattooed on my ring finger and takes it as an insult. And yet again, I'm in hot water. I tried explaining that it is a tattoo and can never be taken off, so she doesn't need to worry about me not having my 'wedding ring' on when I go shot some pool with my friends. She agreed that I could not take it off, but she was not a ball n chain. I explained that should anything ever happen, it would still be there to remind me that she is my one true love and that no other could ever take her place. So the ball n chain symbolism was there to remind me to never get married again. Of course, in true 'guy' fashion I was telling my friends 'I'll never make that mistake again' was the meaning to the tattoo. Again I reference, young and newly married...it did not occur to me that my friends would talk to their wives, who would in turn, talk to my wife, who would in turn  >:D rip me a new one all over again. It took several years, before she finally became OK with the tattoo.

Quick Edit: I was married on Nov 20, 1985 and got the tattoo somewhere around Jan-Feb of 1986.

My wife and I both have very active jobs. One of the kids I work with last year grabed my by my finger by accident and nearly tore it out of the socket by griping my ring. Ever since I have been wearing a Groove ring and not regretting it for a second. My titanium band sits safely at home.

I also wear a gold chain my Dad gave me from Italy and a Seiko Automatic diving watch that was a gift from Saudi Arabia (even has arabic days of the week). Will take a pic later.

Cheers,
H.G.

The only real EDC jewelry I currently have is a Wazoo Viking Whetstone which I LOVE the look of (and the practicality of it), though in the future I'd also like the firestarting necklace and cuff/bracelet. When it comes to jewelry for me I think it'll always come down to some form of necklace, watch or bracelet.

Hey man, how are ya? Nope, I've had the tooth, plus a grizzly bear claw, for a while now, and I finally had a jeweler buddy put a gold cap on them

Hum... I'd love to carry one of those around my neck. I don't think it'll last long, though.

Very cool piece of jewelry.
Thank you very much "Aloha." I wanted something distinctive. The jeweler did a great job on both pieces, shark tooth and bear claw. I'll have to show you how the bear claw pendant came out. I saved money on the gold work by giving the jeweler some jewelry I hardly wore. He used the gold on the pendants.

My new piece of jewelry is going to be a necklace using a military grade ball chain with a tiny Olight XNR Cell flashlight as the pendant.

It will look cool and be functional as well! :tu:

The only actual jewelry I wear everyday is my silicon wedding band, learned the hard way on that one as well. If you count piercings then I have one 10 gage as well. On special occasions I wear a silver necklace with a OPT and a bear tag.

Used to wear a couple of rings and a necklace, awl silver, but have been using them less and less. For quite some time, the only thing I use is a watch.

All I wear these days is a Casio F-91W on a Maratac strap and silicone wedding ring.
