Title: DX folding pruner multi.
Post by: hiljentaa on October 26, 2013, 12:10:20 AM
I'm not brave enough to give this a shot, but I thought I'd post this here to see if anyone has any experience.

I've been wanting a folding bypass shear multi for awhile, and there are not very many decent options out there.

Now this one is new to me, haven't seen one of those though the shape of it reminds me of something Gerber-ie, maybe the Crucial. Doesn't look too bad either.

Who will do the testing and a review then? :pok:

I have absolutely no need for them, but they do look quite good actually. :)

I have one, it's a nice design, but it sure could use some refinement. Lots of steel and some aluminum parts, the handle spacers are plastic. It's all steel and aluminum. Stiff as heck too. It's made by RiMei, who makes safety razor blade holders.

Everything is non locking, and it's pillar construction.

9/10 for construction (not a fan of the polished steel)
6/10 function, blades don't open up too much, they spring back, non locking tools, tools not long enough
10/10 for new innovation/quirkiness
10/10 for collector bait

Did you want a pruner or large shears, and are you open to a sliding head rather than folding head mechanism ?

If you answered the second option in both cases then maybe look at the Excalibur/Paul Chen shears ( NB I've never seen the Excalibur pruners for sale anywhere, but I haven't been really looking for them).

For other pruning and shear options see this thread started by Scrappy - an excellent thread showing lots of shears and Pruners  :tu:

Bear Jaws also make a couple of versions of folding shears.

I have been buying a Paul chen and an Excalibur lately. They seem to be identical apart from the BO Plier on teh PC which is plain steel on the Excalibur (and of course, branding and placement of Trademark/Patent numbers)
