Today the Mini Champ Folder Beholder gifted me proved just how MIGHTY it is. Sorry I don't have any pictures to back this up so you'll just have to take my word on what happened. Yesterday about 1:30 in the afternoon I got an unexpected call from our biggest customer asking if we could change out two existing 1000 pound remote ice machines. They had decided to test these units from another company in a new store.. Not being happy with the test they now wanted to replace them with the proven units we install for them. This being in a brand new store they built from the ground up and with the owner coming in the morning to check up on his latest build, the heat was on. I called up my lead refrigeration tech and electrician and we put everything else on hold. My company owner hooked up the trailer and retrieved the equipment. The ref tech and electrician met on location and mapped out a plan, then scattered to gather supplies. I coordinated another ref tech to assist and the bucket truck to remove the other companies condensers and set ours. By 5:00PM everything was in place to start as soon as the store closed at 10:00. Everything went great. Both new units were in place and making ice like crazy with all the clean up done by 8:00AM. By 9:30 when the owner arrived both had already filled the fountain dispensers and shut off. Then disaster stuck. About 12:30 they both went down indicating a water fill issue. Fortunately the owner had alredy completed his visit and moved on, but he was still in town and could pop back up any time. After about 4 hours troubleshooting the issue was actually a misadjusted low pressure control (lpc) in the condenser, straight from the factory.
Just so happened I was the one on the roof with the condenser when we started to suspect the issue. As fate would have it I had left my Spirit on the evaporator inside the building. The roof access at this store is a nightmare deluxe, so rather than fight that, out came the MIGHTY MINI CHAMP. It pulled all 6 #2 phillips head screws from both cover panels just as well as any dedicated driver would have. Had the cover and adjustment lock plate off the lpc before my coworker could even get to the ladder. I told him not to bother with bringing me any tools and go back to monitor the gauges at the evaporator. A couple of minor adjustments, made by the MMC and about 20 minutes observation and back on went all the covers. The day was saved with nothing more than a gifted mini champ. Thank you Folder Beholder for my MIGHTY MINI CHAMP. It's been with me every day and seen use sense the day I got it. Now I'm certain it will see even more use and God willing it will NEVER leave my side.
I'm certain I can't be the only one with a larger than life story of the MMC. How about some of you sharing?

Lately I carry an alox Vagabond and a cellidor MiniChamp each day....the Vagabond for sentimental reasons, and the MiniChamp to use, it does a lot of package opening. I find that the cuticle pusher is great for scraping things. For instance, my dad's flashlight had some corroded batteries in it and I used that tool to scrape away a lot of the caked on corrosion. Worked great!

Just when you think a SAK can’t save some irretrievable situation... it does. I tend to think the Rambler a more effective 58mm carry but the more I have carried my Mini Champ the more I think that’s just silly for what versatility you actually get. Good story Douglas :cheers:

Having backup, even in a small package, is always a good idea. I always carry several forms of tools with me at any given time for that kind of situation. :)

Wow Doug.... great story and I can confirm that the 58mm phillips combo tool is one of the best things for these little SAKs :tu:
I wouldn't mind reading another couple of "short MT/SAK stories" like this :pok:
