One overlooked survival item (or maybe not allowed on the show? ) is something for entertainment. Once you have food and shelter you very well might get bored....
So Id bring an ebook reader loaded with books and a solar charger for that. If it was allowed of course, but I dont remember seeing anything like that. Or maybe even your fav paperback or anything really. Significant advantage to pass the time and since the goal is to survive and outlast, that is significant to me.

first, why is George Lucas demonstrating the Katanaboy?
second, why are they allowing only Leatherman multitools?
third, I wonder how they would react to something like a Toaks 1600ml pot that has a pan for a lid.
fourth, why is the bald guy in the Cold Steel video so angry at that pig carcass? also didn't know that Dog the bounty hunter was on their payroll
-

-
Yes, Cold Steel movies are um...interesting.
With that said, it was once effective on me as I bought one of these after watching the video.

There is an even bigger one! The katanaboy 650. Its 200 bucks though. :D If I had money in my paypal Id buy one.. just to see the looks Id get when I took it out when camping.
The replacement blades for it are 100 bucks.. but boy would that ever make a great saw blade for a GIANT SAK. :D

Yeah, I could do that too.... but I'd have to fit it with a ramp. Daisy would have difficulties with that many steps.

I would be mainstream on this, with a lean towards wood work and fishing,
1. Sleeping bag
2. Gore Tex cover for sleeping bag
3. Axe
4. Saw
5. Bush knife - probably a Condor bushlore or custom like it
6. Large pot (to their specifications)
7. Fish line and hooks
8. Gill net
9. 20m paracord (or Emergency Rations if I can take two)
10. Emergency Rations

Picking from that list is boring... It is also interesting that clothing AND backpack are not part of that deal... So I would take the largest Camel-Back. The right choice of cloth will reduce the need for shelter items a lot.
Anyway here are my 10
1. Tranquilizer Gun
2. Bottle of chloroform
3. Batch of Norovirus
4. Pack of Rubber gloves
5. Binoculars
6. Night Vision Goggles
7. Large pack of Energy Bars
8. Spirit RT - Never leave home without my precious.
9. Canvas - To keep me warm and protected from the elements
10. Turboflame lighter - Just in case, all the other contestants bring are ferro-rods.
Strategy:
Live of the energy bars, find the other contestants. Use tranquilizer gun to incapacitate them. Double up with chloroform. Rob them naked, literally. Drip some Norovirus in their mouth, just in case being naked in the wilderness does not persuade them to give up >:D

Ever noticed that in every survival themed movie, apocalyptic or not, there is a group who wrecks chaos and mayhem no matter how dire the situation... I'd like to think I would be the leader of that group :D

Ok -
here's my list!
1. Etheralicer
(should be enough I guess)
:D

I don't know. Etheralicer comes across as a barn cat.
OK from a distance but don't find yourself in a tent with them.

I rather see myself as Grasshopper mouse...
- I see no problem taking on larger prey. I bet I could defeat Kylo Ren (really poor swordsman >:D) and Batman (not really smart >:D)
- I'm hilarious like the wolf-mouse
Things I don't have in common with Grasshopper mice
- Not that much of an athlete
- Not that pretty :P

my wife and me kept howling the grasshopper mouse cry when we had seen a documentary on them...
gorgeous beasts!

That is pretty cool!

Were I usully camp there's no rivers or sees, if I'm lucky maybe a spring. So what's the point?
And I have made bows and arrows in the past, nothing high powered but should be enough for birds and small game.
But it can get cold real fast, so protection from the elements is important. We had temps from 3°C to 27°C in July last year.
One chooses his 10 items by the surroundings one would be in.

See this is where I would have to consult with the experts as my experience is camping in African conditions; I would say synthetic but could probably get a -25 rated down one with a good waterproof cover and that would be enough.
If down gets wet you are in trouble. I would definitely give up an item for an outer cover for the bag.
Knife, Axe and Saw, lots of wood and need tools to make a good shelter.
