Just had to order a Victorinox Spirit with ratchet set and leather pouch!!
I loved the look of them but wanted to hold one first to get a feel for it. Well one came in a shop here and I had to get hold of it and it felt perfect, a 100 times better then my LM Wave, Gerber MP400 and so much lighter than my ST300.
And it came with a ratchet & bit set. And the leather pouch is the coolest of the cool. And it's mirror finished. And it beautiful.
There was no price it as it was just placed in the glass cabinet this morning and he said $220!!!!!
I asked about the best price but got no discount whatsoever. So I reluctantly had to get it on Amazon, but with free shipping and almost half the price (and now confident I wanted it) I had no choice.
Now to play the waiting game. I think I should have it by Friday :-)
-
That's one of the best setups you could possibly own. Congratz on a wise purchasing decision. Now of course, you will have to suffer the wait until it arrives >:D
-
Great choice ordering a Spirit, I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I enjoy my Spirits, it's sure one of the best tools I've ever owned.
So, let me help you pass the time with some pics ... ;)

I truly am excited about this one. I spent so much time pondering which tool to get as I dont like the bulky tools unless I need one for a special purpose, like the ST300 which I havent carried for over a year (and I broke it anyway) so wanted a light one.
I dismissed the Spirit as it looked heavy and I ummed and aaaghhed over Gerber MP600 / MP400 for about 3 weeks before settling on the 400. I was well impressed with the 400 for 1/4 the price of what I ended up paying for the Spirit and still am, but its gonna take up residence in my drawer at work I think now as the Spirit will be strapped to me everywhere I go!
Just gonna sit here and twiddle my thumbs....
-
superb choice sir :hatsoff: you WON'T regret it !
I don't have the ratchet set :( but I love the spirit and sheath, might have to 'upgrade' one day

Your not the first victim of this trap

It's all your fault anyway...... :P

The ratchet was my main pull point to get hold of it in the first place and have a look!
I work in Afghanistan so I have to look at a million different manufacturers kit everyday, opening housings / control panels / AC units / pumps. I'm going to customise the bits I will carry so that hopefully I need a Spirit, tape measure and a notepad and I'm pretty much covered.
I cant really carry every tool I need as its just to hot to lug a toolbox full of kit around and I don't always have a vehicle so all being well, my Spirit with a few custom items will be my partner!
I dont do the install or repair, I put the scope of works together and write reports to approve funding / repair or replacement options so I don't have a need for a full on tool kit, but the vast amount of different items out here means I need something flexible and adaptable and I'm pretty sure this is the one!
I will get some pics of it in action when its here for everyone!

Top Gear,
Have you any pictures of how the corkscrew works? I didn't check that out in the shop!
Andy

Andi,
:pok: Sounds to me like you need to add a prybar of some kind to your kit >:D

or a pocket wrench

Good luck Mate

You'll be telling me I need a Skinth to carry it all round in next......
-
Good thinking :D
But seriously a pry bar might just slip in behind the original sheath and could save you ruining your more expensive blade :tu:

Funny you mention that :pok:

I don't have any pics from the corckscrew, but you can see how it works here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21donivqsmo) (around 1.20 s).

Hi guys
One other question, do you know what size belt fits the leather pouch loops?
Might need. New belt too......

I think you can get a 5 cm belt through there, maybe even a 5.5 cm (the biggest belt I own is a 4,5 cm one, and it fits with room to spare).
-
Well I think I'm gonna purchase a 5.11 tactical belt to run with.
They have them here in my size so happy days!

Good choice on the Spirit, I love mine! I wish I got the ratchet set though, there's been a few times it would have been handy. I wonder if it can be purchased separately?

Yes the Ratchet-Kit is available separately, it was only hard to find separate when it first came out. It's a very nice little tool, just a little solid piece of engineering. I have 3 small ratchets for 1/4" hex drive and the Vic one holds it's own. It has a very small head allowing it to get into tight places better and makes carrying it easier as it often fits into existing pouches. CVW on ebay sells it alone, with extension, or complete package. Amazon has it through 3rdParty sellers, but in this case ebay will likely save you money. The extension is very useful, and 1/4" in driver on the tail of the handle is very useful, when combined with the extension in the ratchet used as a handle. Very versitile.

This thread makes me realize I feel a bit naked without my Spirit. It's summer and I've not been carring my bag as often and I didn't move the Spirit back to the belt, so it's been just hanging out at home. I did grab it the other day for a quick Phillips to install a guard on a new trimmer, but for the most part it's been pretty idle.
I think the OP owes us all a beer for showing him the light.

Did they really use that kind of packaging? No wonder it fought it's way through. Hope you receive your replacement soon. :salute:

Expecting a Spirit, but it turned up a Ghost...

Yeh I'm pretty gutted. I'm out in Afghan and it took a week over its "next day delivery" which was good really for being out here.
I'm sure the 2nd one will be a month long wait this time! Lol
I sorted everything out over the amazon chat Which was really good as phone signal out here is intermittent at best!
I told them to send it me in a proper box or not at all as it will happen again. Lets see how this one fairs!

Going to revive an old thread here.
The spirit has been ace. I'm back working in the UK now and tonight I'm working in London and stopping in a crap hotel with no bar! Picked up a lovely bottle of red only to get it back to the room and realise it was corked not screw top............
Enter the spirit!
It's been on me or near me since the day I got it and being a full on office boy now it's a long time between uses but I won't be without it.
Great companion.

Why does a thread entitled 'Damn You People!!!' make me so happy? :D
Thanks for checking back in, Andi, and we hope to see you more in the future. The Spirit is an amazing piece of craftsmanship, and the extra bits you got make it even more awesome.
