Title: Tool's for a LOOOONG ride
Post by: Mike, Lord of the Spammers! on August 09, 2007, 12:43:43 PM
If you were going for a long ride or a multi day tour, what tool,s would you take for you bike?

Personally I,d take my new wenger bike tool (big thanks to bison!)...

my gerber cool tool...

And my topeak gearbox...

Plus the usual pumps and puncture repair kits.

so what about you guys?

It,s tiny is what it is!

It really is just for bikes, theres just not enough muscle for bigger jobs.

As a bike tool, I imagine that would be enough, wouldn't it?

On my last long ride,I had the Bell Multi, and a Leatherman Mini-Tool. I really like the set-up of the Gearbox..add in the Mini-Tool,and pocket inflator, and you're good to go.Anymore I consider the cell phone, almost as essential as the water bottles I carry.

These days a cell phone is a must have for any trip, be it bike, boat, car, or on foot.  And, like a good SAK or multi, it's reckless and stupid to not have one along.

Too true, it just make so much sence to have the back up from the emergency services, from something so small and light as a mobile phone :)

So it sounds like what we need here then, is a cell phone with a fold out set of spoke wrenches and a chain tool.

Or do we need a bike tool with a fold-out cell phone implement?   ???

Leatherman thinks all you need is a SideClip

How are you going to call the paramedics with a SideClip?  Heck, the SideClip doesn't even have a saw to cut off your own arm if you get trapped while hiking!

Right-o! I shall go right now and submit both ideas to the Leatherman Design Contest (http://www.leatherman.com/leatherman-world/default.asp)!  8)

That could be inconvenient if you are trying to cut something very precise and you accidentally left your tool set to vibrate!   ;D

Actually that is an added sales point: No need for a serrated knife blade that way!  :)

As long as it came with a quick release band aid dispenser I'd buy it...

I have a rep for being so smart... so much so that when a member here, who shall remain nameless, sent me a package it contained a large package of steri strips and band aids!

I don't know how I got that reputation, but it doesn't seem very smart to me!

Just be careful and remember what you used last..phone or tool..or you'd need a medic!
