Title: Group shots
Post by: dks on July 26, 2011, 08:27:52 PM
I had some spare time and it was hot outside, so I took some shots of a few of my folding knives together, trying to include in each shot knives that had a common characteristic. The knives included were mainly low to medium cost.

This was done without too much preparation and after finishing one shot I would think of other knives that could have been included in that shot, or of more groups that could have been made.

This was done purely for fun, based on my point of view, and I hope more can be added by others or me later.  :salute:

Some ideas would be: same brand knives, type of knife (e.g. stockman, congress…) handle material, country of origin etc.

Amazing collection and great pics buddy..

Many thanks, I like them all and enjoy  them, but I don't really call it a collection; I doubt they will go up in value and are mostly knives under $15 that can be bought easily of the internet.

I know some people here  ;) have "real" collections.

Whoey has a way of hosting all your PB pics so that they will show for anyone even if they dont have the PB fix.

https://forum.multitool.o...sg1586829.html#msg1586829

It's pretty easy to do. I did it a while back and it didn't take all that long to do.

I see that the SAKs were much better behaved and stood in their lines, whereas the other knives misbehaved and got all mixed up...  :)

Wow :o On discovering this thread, I'm reminded of this...

With trembling hands, I made a tiny breach in the upper left hand corner... widening the hole a little, I inserted the candle and peered in... at first I could see nothing, the hot air escaping from the chamber causing the candle to flicker. Presently, details of the room emerged slowly from the mist, strange animals, statues and gold – everywhere the glint of gold. For the moment – an eternity it must have seemed to the others standing by – I was struck dumb with amazement, and when Lord Carnarvon, unable to stand in suspense any longer, inquired anxiously "Can you see anything?", it was all I could do to get out the words "Yes, wonderful things".

I love to see what other people like to collect in the way of knives. Most seem to have a purpose in mind which I envy because my "accumulation" is somewhat random in that I buy whatever seems to suit my fancy at the time. Over the past sixty or so years I have changed directions many times and that is the result.I guess it pretty much mirrors my life in many respects.
Thanks to all who took the time to display your collections, accumulations,or whatever you call them;it was a real treat for me.
Here are pictures from my,"small cigar box" that is an antique cigar chest that my brother-in-law got me for Christmas one year. The top tis removeable and there are 12 drawers in it. I keep all of my smaller and miniature knives in it.This may take a few posts so please be patient.
The first drawer contains mostly metal handled knives with some advertising pieces.
The second drawer holds sterling silver fruit knives;some with pearl handles. Each drawer is 16 1/2 inches wide by 6 inches deep.

Page two.
Drawers three and four are strictly pearl handled knives;mostly old ones. There are some others scattered through other drawers only because I didn't have room to fit them all together.

Drawer five is strictly metal handled advertising knives.
Drawer six are knives that have either ivory, bone,or cream celluloid(French ivory) handles.

Drawer seven is devoted to miniature knives;many of which are less than one inch(25.4mm)in length when closed.
Drawer eight is mostly unusually shaped knives or items such as pins that are made to look like knives.

About a month ago some serious knife collectors from AAPK who live in Wichita came by for a visit. I didnt get enough pics and some of the ones I did get didnt turn out. I was so overwhelmed by the old knives i was looking at I couldnt process it all. I was looking at and handling knives I had only heard of or seen pics of. I never dreamed of ever holding one of them in my hand to admire. The Gentlemen in the first pic is Mark Knife-nut at AAPK. Its his knives in the pics. This is just some of his trading stuff he brought.

Some great stuff showing up here and I'm lovin' every minute of it!
Here is another cabinet I am working on at the moment. This one only has four drawers.
Drawer one contains a mixture of old Bowie knives;Marbles hunting & fishing knives, and a couple of customs.
Drawer two is strictly knives made by Case;both folding and fixed blades.
Drawer three is some of my larger and unusual letter openers(like the ones with watches built in).
Drawer four is mostly multi-tools;old and new.

Your collections are impressively diverse. Thank you for sharing them!

Sometimes I wish I had started collecting MTs and knives much earlier. Passed up some real gems, because they were "too expensive". Turns out, they would have been a good investment.
Reminds me of the time I passed up buying an Altair 8800 computer for $10, because it was obsolete junk in my opinion. Oh the lessons learned. :ahhh

Grouped up my modest Case collection while I was at it. And some of the nicer Bear & Sons knives (last pic) with a few different brandings made by B & S at some point or another.

Looks like two Gerbers on each side of your picture.Great pic.

I had a Gerber boot knife designed by Blackie Collins or maybe Bob Loveless. It had no separate hilt but the metal handle acted as a hilt with the handle slightly flared at its juncture with the blade.

It had a sheath with spring loaded retention clips and a metal clip, like the three sheaths in your picture, for attaching to inside of the shaft of a western boot.I also had a shoulder rig for it.It was similar to one of my Bianchi gun shoulder rigs. You would loop your right arm through the elastic harness and then put your left arm through the other side.It had a sheath attached to one side of the harness that hung upside down under your arm.The knife clipped into the sheath using two spring loaded retention clips on both sides of the sheath.

Thanks Toolguy,
L-R Gerber,Explorer,G96,Aitor, unbranded Solingen.
I would like to have a set up as you describe with the harness. I have seen them with a Gerber Guardian. I nearly had a Guardian recently but someone else wanted it more.
Thanks for the comment.

You're welcome.

Gerber Guardian, that was the name of it.It was all black and the handle was metal with a textured finish. It was cool but someone wanted it more than myself so I let him have it.

That’s interesting. I’ve seen a review of one that looks different in the blade markings and a crest or badge stamped into the sheath front.  Maybe official or older version.

That's a recycled material called Paperstone. It's appropriately named because it's as hard as stone.

Awesome Kabar selection, sak60!

With all of the smaller knives a lot of us carry, those Kabars brought this to mind.
