I have the one linked above and it the Ticket for quick, permanent repairs.
I picked up a nail in my tire on the way home the other day.

and just 10 minutes later, it was completely repaired and cleaned up.

You can see the black plug sticking out of the hole once occupied by the nail.
The key to this repair kit is the mushroom shaped plugs that self seal in place. These require no glues or epoxys. Just insert it into the hole and pull it snug against the tire. Works in any sort of tubeless tire.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm forever picking up nails, screws, pinlocks and so on in my tires at work.

I have that kit too! Carried it on my motorcycle till I sold it now its in the car. Never used it but I liked the design.

I've had to use tire plugs many times, but this plug seems like a winner for sure!

External plugs (we use stringy ones a lot) are very handy and do a good job *but* they do rely on the strength of the surrounding tyre. They're also illegal to use on the road over here.

do you mean the waxed stringy stuff thats pushed into the tyre with something that looks like an awl ? i did not know that is illegal in the UK - excuse my ignorance, but how would a tubeless tyre be repaired (legally) ?

That's the one.
Find the leak, mark the hole, take the tyre off, pull a mushroom shaped patch through the hole leaving the umbrella of the mushroom sitting around the hole to support it (it's glued too).
Re-fit tyre the same way as it was taken off to keep the balancing (or don't bother if it's a tractor tyre).

huh, thats interesting, sounds like a lot of work just to fix a puncture - whats a garage / tyre fitter charge to fix a puncture there so (ballpark) - last time i got one fixed i'm pretty sure it was the stringy stuff they used, though i didn't hang about to see. i must find out whether thats legal here or not. thanks for the info :)

Cupboard, take a look at this kit. The plug IS a mushroom shaped affait and the whole trick is the ingenious tool for inserting it without removing the tire (tyre)

No idea. The only time I've personally had a puncture the tyre needed replacing, and at work I just take the vehicle over to the workshop and ask someone that knows what they're doing to do it :tu:
I've used the stringy patches myself but that's it. We've also got some much fatter external patches that I've never used. One of our loaders has some relatively odd sized wheels (most are 24", these are 25") and for some reason the only tyres our local people could get were some really terrible BKT cross-plies that were forever getting punctures. They used up a lot of patches :D
